Wow- guess this is how it was yesterday...its quiet here.
Got my walk in this am- and some vacuuming. Glad that is over with. Then I took on the daunting task of the sheet rock in the laundry room. I actually made good progress on it, and only have a few more pieces to hang. I would not say that I am good at it, but am getting the job done. And most of it will be covered up by the washer and dryer, so who cares?? Ha ha ha. Will be glad when that is done and over with. As far as making it look pretty (doing a good job of taping and spackling it) I will probably only do that where it can be seen- in front of the washer and dryer. Boy do I sound lazy or what!

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well Sounds like everyone has been busy. It's been hot here, but a bit milder today although it was cloudy and rainy off and on. I was happy to be able to pull back some of the curtains since the sun wasn't coming in. It's kind of ironic that summer which is such a "bright" season is just very dark for me staying inside with all the windows covered. I finished two quilts - one of them is the Silver Linings top from the quilt along the last few months. I'm not very happy with it, but the top is done. It is just too scrappy for my taste and I wish I'd narrowed down the fabrics I used in it. I tried to pull it together by making 12 extra blocks using the floral fabrics, but it still looks very disconnected to me. It will be a good one to machine quilt practice on. I noticed that other quilters who made theirs only using a few fabrics in just a few (or even one) color have blocks that look better together. Live and learn The other top I finished is the Lone Star quilt. I didn't have enough fabrics, or the energy to put the border around it the way I wanted to, so I just put a small 2 inch white fabric border around the main star and then added a 4 1/2 inch border of one of the aqua fabrics that are in the quilt top. This top finished up measuring 70x70, it's big, but still not the largest quilt top I've made but one of them. I will try to hang it up on a portable design wall I have tomorrow so I can take a picture of it to share with you. Now I just have the two Jelly Snowflake tops to finish. Once I put them together I'll see if I want to add a border to them. I know I don't have much fabric left of the pink and green quilt, so I might not be able to put a border on it. I do have quite a bit of the Christmas fabric and I might add an interesting border to it. This blogger gave some options for borders and I really like the nine patch one. Here's a link to her blog, you have to scroll down to see the different border options (NOTE: Her pictures are very light and it's kind of hard to see the quilt top, but I hope you can): www.laundrybasketquilts.com/blog/I posted the picture above with the 9 patch border, I meant to post it below sorry about that Take care everyone and have a great weekend!

Good to see you Ginny, and CJ, I hope the others are doing well also.
Ginny, well I would do the same and that's what I plan to do with the painting in the "winter quarters" is paint around the things that are blocking the walls. I'm sure that when we decide to sell this house that the buyers will want their own paint colors so they can take care of the areas we don't paint while doing their own.
CJ, I love the nine block border. I went to the site you gave us the link for and it's the nicest one. Yes it's disappointing when we finish something and then don't care for it. A whole quilt top is a lot of work.
It's back to being hot again here after a couple days of cooler temperatures..
Today I haven't worked on the doll yet. I saw a youtube video for a hat that I liked so started on that. The designer calls it a Joshua Tree hat I guess because that's the name of the color of the yarn she's using. It has sections of partial cable in it and is really nice but I think her cables would stand out better if she used a different yarn. She used Lionbrand heartland and although it's all one color it's kind of "tweady" I guess you would call it. A plain yarn would work better but I had some of that yarn so I used it instead of going with the yarn I knew I should have used.
Dh saw me starting the hat and asked what I was working on now. Well I have 4 wips going now so I plan to complete this hat this evening and maybe work on the doll or the blanket I was working on last night...it's the crystal wave one that I started last week. It's pretty large and it will soon be time for a border on it.And neither the hat nor that blanket were on my list of things to get done soon so have to get back to that.

Hi, I did not do much today. did go to the cutting table to cut out a few square.for some reason all my cutters are cutting jagged, not straight.even changed the blade in my big cutter.
the mats are new so it can't be the cause of deep cuts in the mats.even checked thee edges of the rulers for nicks.not to bad.
never had this happened before.I even pressed down harder with the cutter, same thing. I wanted to get started on the second set of blocks.
cj you have been busy with your quilt tops.phyl

JD and I are going to make some stuffed "clouds" for the kids at his school to decorate. He was going to have the kids make them, but handing needles to 5-8 year olds is a bad idea lol. Glad I kept my singer, he's going to be doing some of the sewing since this was his idea

Hello Crafters Rene - I agree on the needle with 5-8 year olds I hope your DS enjoys making the clouds - it is a neat idea. Phyl - That's strange that your rotary cutter is doing that. I googled that problem and found these old posts on a message board with lots of reasons why that might be happening (Hope this link works): www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1/help-problems-rotary-cutter-t193027.htmlOne person said the blade could just be "wonky", so maybe you can try a new blade if you haven't done that yet. Ginny - Are you doing any home improvement work this weekend? Ruth - I think you are normal having many projects going and then seeing another project you like and starting that, it's the sign of a truly creative person Sue and Meg - hope you are crafting. I finished putting the borders on my Lone Star quilt. I just didn't feel like putting that special border on, so I put a smaller white inner border and then used the light aqua fabric for a larger outer border. I figure I could use the darker aqua for the binding. I've attached a picture so you can see it. My goal with this quilt was to have the star seem like it was radiating and I hope you can see that when you stare at it for a bit.

I also finished putting together the blocks for my Christmas version of the Jelly Snowflake quilt. I'm not sure I'm going to put the special border on this one either. I'm thinking about putting 3 borders on it. The first one would be about a 2 inch cream fabric border, then a smaller 1 inch dark green border, then a larger 5 inch or so gold fabric outer border. I need to pull out more of the gold fabric so I think the larger outer border for that would be good. Then I was thinking the red fabric for binding. I know we are all our worst critics, but there is just one thing I wish I had done differently with this quilt. I wanted to have the dark green strips that are in each of the corner blocks first, so it would draw your eye to the 4 corners. I didn't realize when I made the blocks that we would turning them to face inwards, so that messed up my original idea. But I'm O.K. with it, it was a fun quilt along. I hope to get the pink/green version done this weekend too. ETA: This quilt top is going to always drive me crazy. All I see are those dark green upside down L shapes And now I wish I put red squares where I have gold square and gold strips where I have the 4 red strips. I have to step away

Wow- lots to catch up with. CJ- I can see why the dark green “L’s” are a problem to your eye but once you put the border on its all in perspective and looks great. Now If you can only teach me how to get pictures up here.....ha ha ha. I will figure it out, just have to play with the system. The Lone star quilt is SO pretty!!!! I love it. And I do like the star border too.
Rene- I agree- letting your son use the singer with the 8 year olds is a great idea. Somehow using your new brother for that does not sound like a good idea at all!! Ha ha ha
Ruth, think everything will be painted, but the finishing of the walls and sheet rock behind the washer - dryer will be a bit less well done. You are always finding a new and pretty hat to work on! Hope you can finish the hat you are working on- just to get one more hat off the list of projects in process.
Phyl sounds like you have tried pretty much everything....perhaps it would just be a good day to not cut anything and take a break for a day. Tomorrow is another day....and hopefully the problem will disappear.
Got a fair amount of the binding sewn- still have one large side to finish. Dd came to take her kitten home he was very vocal when he saw her almost reprimanding her for leaving him here. (Believe me, he was well treated!!). Not going to work on the laundry room this weekend. Monday is another day for that.
Been busy with Dd being here....I am way late for checking email. BBL

Good choices on borders cj! The quilts all look good.
Ginny, I have some drywall that needs replacing., but I think I'm too old to try it! Sounds like you're making good progress.
I've walked woofers in the backyard, clipped a few branches, washed several loads of laundry. Looks like I haven't done anything!
The woofers know what time it is. They're getting restless. It's FOOD time.

CJ, I absolutely love both those quilts! Once again you did a fantastic job. I actually like the green L's and with that border it makes them look even better. Your choices of border colors are wonderful. Ginny, you're right, if something isn't working like Phyl's rotary cutter or if you get a little tired of a project...like your laundry room...the set it aside for a day or two. That's so funny about the kitten reprimaning your daughter for leaving her with someone else. I know you took excellent care of her so that's not in question at all but It's funny to me that an animal remembers it's owner when they've been separated awhile. And maybe the kitten was telling your daughter to go back home and leave her because you treated her so well although I'm sure she treats the kitten just as well...How's that for a run on sentence Sue, we're never too old to learn something new however I don't think you should be up on ladders replacing sheets of wallboard I'm sure those woofers don't let you forget when it's time for them to ear. I did finish the hat yesterday but I modified it a bit to put on ribbing for a brim at the bottom. I'm doing another today in plainer yarn to see how that looks. So since I will have made 4 hats this week by the end of today, I might use Sunday for my other projects instead of having it hat day this week.

Agree Ruth- if you made 4 hats already this week then its absolutely ok for you to work on another project today. Like changing fabric in quilting its always amazing how changing the yarn to a different color can really alter how a pattern looks. Sounds like you did end up using a tweed like yarn for the first try with this pattern and are switching to another color. Which do you prefer?? Your experience with hat making shows as you were able to - on the fly- modify the pattern to add a ribbing brim.
Sue- not sure what your sheet rock issues are....but they sell these 24 inch precut pieces for somewhat larger repair projects ( and that is what I am using) and also patch kits. (I used a patch kit on a 4 inch hole- think they also sell those patch kits in somewhat larger sizes.). Anyway, if its a smaller area, its not that tough. I still have to tape and spackle what I have done and will do so next week. Laundry is one of those things that don’t necessarily make a house look any neater. Guess its a bit discouraging that your house does not look like you did a thing, but at least you don’t have to do laundry for awhile!
regarding DD’s kitten it was pretty funny. The little fellow was out of sight when Dd entered the room- then he came out sat at her feet and loudly voiced his opinion for a minute! It as quite obvious how he reacted, and then they way he sat next to her on the couch a bit later was a very strong statement. Yes, we took very good care of him, but he really knows who he lives with!
Still working on the binding- progress is slow but steady. Ginny

Ended up going to CTS with my friend and picked up an adorable little cabinet that I will use to hide an imperfection in the wall (there is a pipe that sticks out and I cannot hide it). Got a little work done on the quilt too. Quiet here. BBL G

Hello crafting friends. I hope you are all having a good and relaxing day. I just finished straightening up the kitchen then I made dh his lunch and made a large pasta salad for him to eat later and for lunches in the upcoming hot days. I make it with olive oil dressing so it doesn't get all watery like a mayo dressing would. Now to clean up the kitchen again but that won't take long.
I'm going to finish the hat I started late last night then work on the doll probably or check my list. Dh saw the pocket shawls that seem extremely popluar in the crochet groups. He thought one would be handy for him so I'll make him one. There is a pattern that's sold on ravelry that EVERYONE HAS to have when all they are is a long wide rectangle, pockets added at each end and fringe or tassels. How someone convinces multitudes of people that it will only be good if made by THEIR pattern is beyond me. And to me it's an expensive pattern. I'm not going to make fringe or tassels and of course I'll do it in a man color.I'm thinking that the POL in the anthracite color will be perfect. Dh will use this in his computer room in the winter. I'm also thinking that if they are as popular as they seem on the crochet groups I should make one for each of my grandaughters. Those young women say they have a lot of requests from people asking to buy them. And I may need one for around my shoulders for crocheting in the winter.
CJ, have you found anything interesting online today? Ginny, how was church this morning? Are you still meeting inside with social distancing? How's that new little grandbaby?
