WELCOME TO REGULAR & NEW POSTERS! This thread is full of encouragement & suggestions. New people, welcome! We encourage you to jump in. One day, one hour, one minute at a time is easier to handle than a week, etc. Lurkers, join in
Our goal is 21 days Binge Free (studies show 21 days to break old habits & start new ones!). Whether we make 21 or one, the point is to learn as we go, replace binges with other things to help us through stressful times. Some days are harder than others & we may slip; that's OK. The Binge Monster is in the shadows waiting to pounce. Hopefully this thread provides inspiration, courage, & support to become a Binge Survivor!
You may see different folks on different "Cycles." A Cycle is a 21 day block of consecutive binge-free days. Stay with us for as many cycles as you'd like.
Everyone's definition of a BINGE is different. The Oxford Dictionary defines a binge as a spree of eating and drinking. To many of us, BINGE is defined as "eating without dignity." The dictionary defines "dignity" as a calm and serious manner or style, showing suitable formality or indicating that one deserves respect. Only you can define what a binge is for you. Going over points, as long as it was done with dignity and journaled (therefore acknowledged and "owned") isn't binging--it is up to you to decide.
SPECIAL THANKS TO LESLIE5609 for starting this challenge on the Out of Control Board, in August '02, and thanks to all who keep it going

Beth – I know what you mean about rebelling against rules – but it’s my feeling that there are already rules whether or not they are specified, and that leads to a lot of should I, shouldn’t I’s. All of that is eliminated once we make up our minds to just rule out the sweet treats. Does that make any sense? I really don’t want to be a PITA but for me this tends to avoid a lot of the loosy goosy behavior. Later – I can’t even absorb what you accomplish in a single day.
Edesia – Sorry you and DH are dealing with this situation. The solutions are never easy. Just take care of your family. We’ll hold the fort, here, and look forward to your updates whenever you have a moment.
Lori – Sounds like me a while back. I finally got back on the beam and you will too. Please don’t beat yourself up. It goes with the territory and reminds us why we are all here.
Meg – Home schooling six kids is beyond amazing. And you did it too? That’s so impressive. You obviously did something right or DD wouldn’t be following in your footsteps. You’ve got to be extremely proud.

Morning, BFF's! My day included healthy meals, but there was a period of snacking in the afternoon that was not so healthy. I stopped when I started to consider going out to the store or bakery for something sweet. I was craving a steak and made one for my dinner. I have cut back considerably on red meat since DH stopped having meat. I had a small piece of the steak and packed up the rest. It really hit the spot. Lots of running around to do today. I'll probably be on my own for dinner because DH will be going into Manhattan to visit his mom. TTYL
Nancy - Thanks. Besides getting through this current situation, the family is going to have to figure out some other, important care issues for when DMIL gets out of the hospital. She's progressed to the point where the family and home attendants can't really take care of her.
Meg - What a cute pic! Thanks for your thoughts. I hope you had a great cook out and sleepover.
Beth - Thanks for your thoughts, too. Wow, quite the day you had. I know I would have pooped out by the time it got around to food prep.
Lori - I really don't think any of us return to how we used to be with eating. There will be a natural stop, when you just don't want to continue eating unhealthy. Yes, you'll probably have to undo some weight gain. We all go through these cycles. You WILL be able to decide when enough is enough. Don't beat yourself up.
Waving to the rest.

Good words here today. Thanks, y'all.
Chicago weather: by the time we were cooking on the fire outside, the temps had dropped like crazy and we were all freezing. But we persevered, even through the marshmallows. Had a good time with the GKs; they're so much easier when they get a little older (10, 9, and almost 9).
Lori: Hang in there. Is there something really different that you could do to kick off a good eating spree? Make a special healthy recipe you love? Take a walk in the rain (well, it's raining here) and meditate on the advantages of getting back on the beam? But I agree with what others said: you'll find your way.
Nancy: Yes, I'm really proud of both my kids, and so grateful/blessed of the good choices they've made over the years - including picking wonderful spouses!
Peace to all.
