Ruth that is really sweet and considerate of you to think of those who will wear your hats...what kindness for those who are in need and perhaps are also lost. I will have to check out that Lakeside beanie, sounds so cute. But honestly, I cannot keep up with the volume of hats you make for so many!!
What a difference a day or two makes.....feels like fall here this am. BBL Ginny

Hello Crafters Sue - I hope you can get your prescriptions soon. Ruth - I know that there are a lot of people out there that are really going to love the hats you are making and will appreciate keeping their head warm in the cold weather. Ginny - Hope you enjoy the cooler weather. Rene - Thanks! Phyl - Hope you are feeling better. Thanks everyone for the quilting compliments, this was a fun quilt top to put together. I may make another one some day using a dark background and light fabrics on top. I cut out the fabrics for my monthly Rainbow Scrap blocks, it's fun to work with the purple fabrics. Hopefully I can get the blocks put together over the next few days. This challenge ends in October, but that leaves me with 10 blocks for one of my quilts and I think I really need 12 blocks, so I'm going to figure out a way to make 2 more. So far the colors have been - Light/Bright Greens, Dark Greens, Light Bright Blues, Dark Blues, Oranges, Pinks, Teals/Aqua, and Purple. We still have Red and Yellow to do. I was thinking about a tan/gold/light brown block and maybe one that has seasonal fabrics - winter, spring, summer and fall. Take care and have a great day!

I never named my squirrel but he has a nasty habit of jumping on top of the air conditioner and then trying to skip across to my window bird feeder (which it has partially broken, the feeder was meant to feed birds not sustain squirrels). One time the squirrel actually had no idea what it was doing- so when I opened the window to shoo it away it froze. I ended up pushing it off the window sill with the back of my hand.

CJ, You have such a great eye for color! The colors for those blocks you mentioned sound really good. You can be really proud of those quilts and if you did brag...which you don't....you have every right.
Ginny, that squirrel sounds determined to get to your feeder. When we used to go to Arkansas every year we had feeders and finally had to take them down because of the squirrels.
Today I finished another hat that I started last night...seems like I start one every night. Anyway as soon as it was done dh claimed it. After that one I decided I'd better get going again on the birthday gifts for the rest of the year so tonight I'm working on some bookmarks as a gift to my dil who's bday was back in March and I didn't get gifts sent to her because of the pandemic.Since I knew I wasn't going to be able to mail them I put off finishing them so have to do it now. I also have five more of their family to make for but thankfully the Sloth is done. He was a challenge for me but it turned out he wasn't that hard to make.I don't know what I was thinking decided to make bookmarks with my crochet thread and a tiny hook but it actually is coming along so I need to get back to it. Luckily the thread is a #3 and 5 not a 10. 3 in thread is way finer than #3 in yarn. These old eyes aren't good with tiny threads anymore and like my real yarn, I have a LOT of crochet thread.

Don’t think I have ever worked with crochet thread....the book marks sound very pretty and I am sure you have picked out some lovely designs to make for your DDIL. Because she home schools, I am sure that she can use a lot of bookmarks, or she can use them for her own reading. I know I use several book marks, there is something nice about using a pretty bookmark instead of a piece of paper enlisted to that task. One more time, I love your Dh’s support of your crafting. This is not the first time that you have mentioned that he really liked a project you were working on and wanted it for himself. What color was the hat that Dh wanted ?? Yay yay yay!! Sid the Sloth is done!! It was one of those projects that you thought looked so cute and then got into and questioned your sanity. We knew you would prevail and that Sid would be absolutely adorable. Does he get shipped to the same family as the bookmarks??
Dd #2 came over for dinner (to help with the leftovers) last night, so I got no work done on the quilt. It was good to hang out with just her. Gonna get a walk in today and then hope to get some work done on the laundry room project. I ended up going to a nice rustic zoo with Dd#1 and the grandkids. Its outdoors of course, and everyone practiced social distancing and many more masks (even though we were outside). It was SO nice to do something normal with the kids! In a normal year we would have probably gotten to 3 county fairs and a few free concerts. None of that this year.

Good morning everyone. It's still morning here anyway. It's going to be another hot day.
Yes Sid's been done for a couple weeks but a couple days ago I realized I forgot the little tufts of yarn you're supposed to put on the eyeballs to look like eyelashes. It's probably better to just leave them off though as little kids play with their toys and the lashes might cause the eyes to get pulled off.. You know how his eyes are at the sides of the head.
Ginny, how nice that your dd came over to help you eat the leftovers from the family dinner. And what fun that zoo must have been. Ddil sent pictures of the grands at some kind of place like that. I don't know that it was a zoo but they had farm animals. Then there were castle like things in the pictures too. See didn't say what the place was. It was outside too and although one of the kids had a mask in her hand they didn't have them on. I didn't see any other people that showed up in the background of the pictures so I don't think too many were there. But, yes, that's another bad thing about this year is that most activities that people like to attend in the summer are not taking place. It really must make life feel so strange. Sometimes I wonder if all this was actually necessary but I'd have to say it is. Some of the people I know are running around just like they always did but now they wear cotton masks that probably aren't even helping anything because a lot of people don't make them so that they are effective. One of the women on the other thread I post on has made a LOT of masks and uses a special pattern. I don't remember what her pattern was but it looks like it would protect pretty well.
Yes the bookmarks and all the things I'm making right now except the hats, are going to the same place. I have a feeling it's going to be a large box. After this month I'll be back to making Christmas things for family here in town or that will be in town (the grands and great grands from Montana) on or near Christmas.I've made my list for August and it's a long one.

It sure sounds like you will be busy Ruth. First of all, Sid is one silly looking fellow- a thin neck and a broad head with protruding ears and bug eyes on the side of his head. It seems as though you are going to have a very busy month creating being that your August list is such a long one. What else is on the list that you will be making this month?? What stinks about a large box is the expense to send it. Used to be you could send a parcel a really cheap rate- it might take a while to get there but it was much less pricey. Now, everything goes flat rate, parcel post or the super expensive overnight options. Used to be that UPS was cheaper too- doubt that is true anymore. All I know is I am glad i am no longer having to send gifts to my sisters kids (they are adults now). The annual Christmas box was expensive enough to ship. I remember when Dd#1 was in college (only a100 minute drive from home). We knew she was home sick....I made a batch of her favorite cookies- cost $7.00 to ship them. A coworker was in the PO when I was paying to ship the package- she told me I should have just sent Dd the $7 and let her buy her own cookies. I knew it was not the same....each of my kids got cookies from home sent to school. I do believe that the masks are helping- as long as folks wear them around their nose and mouth. No, its not going to stop everything, but its helping. In most states that have instituted a mask policy there is a noticeable decline in Covid cases about 3 to 4 weeks after the mask policy was instituted. I hope you enjoyed the pictures of the grands at whatever zoo/farm they went to visit. Little kids and animals are so much fun....they do love to see them and as it was outside, it was a pleasant and pretty safe environment. DGS loved the alligator.
So I was naughty and placed an order from Joanns online. It did not cost me a thing- I had a gift card from Ds. Thought the gift card was for $25 - but it was for $50! Gee I should have bought more!! I got a nice gingham fabric to make a curtain to cover the area by the dryer vent and some thread. Got a good price on the fabric, which was not available in the store anyway so I might as well just order it online. Maybe ha ha ha, next week I can finish up the laundry room. I worked on the sheet rock today - not too good at it, but its getting done. So perhaps buying fabric might be my crafting today. And stopping in here to say hello.
Have a good evening!! Ginny

Ginny, thanks for pointing out what the statistics are looking like with the masks even the thin home made ones. I do think that anything is better than nothing but I don't like the idea that some people are on the go now more than even before the virus because of masks. I hope you didn't think I was speaking of you. I know you have made some good mask.
Yes it used to be that UPS was less expensive than the post office but I'm not so sure anymore either. I know the UPS stores charge a lot more than the actual UPS office itself. I used to send most by UPS but haven't sent from there for years.
My list is long for sure. I got one bookmark done last night. You would think that they would take no time at all because they're so small but with thread it takes forever. This morning I finished another that I started last night. It was metallic thread so that was even worse because it kept twisting on itself. It's a cross bookmark so I wanted it to be nicest. I think that dil will use that in her Bible.I need to make one for ds...well and maybe for all the older children that have their own Bibles but they won't be made in metallic. I got another bookmark made today but spent most of my crafting time getting the yarn together for specific items. It's only 9 so I should be able to get a good start on something else now.
The neighbor brought even more food over today.None of his cooked food but a lot of "ingredient" type food

Did not at all think that you were making any comment about me Ruth! I have seen all kinds of silliness out there regarding masks.....really “love” those who wear a mask on their mouths but still have their noses sticking out. Ok so germs only leave your body by exhaling through the mouth?? (Absurd) No mask is perfect and the best out there is an N95 (hard to come by too) but at this point anything does help- especially if someone who is asymptomatic goes out and has no idea that they are spreading. Glad you got one bookmark done- how many are you planning on making? Sweet of your neighbor to share his bounty with you and Dh! Hope you can use those ingredients or that they keep well.
Think I am seeing both DD’s later today. Looks like it will be a busy one. G

I made her three bookmarks and all are done now. This morning I went to my email and in there was a pattern for exactly what I need for my 6 year old grandson. He had asked me to make him a scabbard for his sword but his sword somehow got broken (baby brother?) The pattern this morning was for a sword and shield. The story behind it was cute. Designer said that her also 6 year old son had been climbing into bed with her in the middle of the last couple nights because of bad dreams. When she asked him what he needed to fight off the dragons and dinos he said a sword so she designed the pattern and is sharing it for free.Last night I had started a dino backpack for him but I'm sure he will like the sword and shield more. I also got tired of putting together the list of what all I need for all these patterns so went back to my dependable and mindless crochet thermal stitch hotpad which I haven't made for awhile. They make great gifts.
Ginny, your daughters are doing a great job keeping you busy and I know it's great to see them and the grandchildren. Children grow up so fast and go their own way but luckily your's are near and you can see them often.
It's another hot day here. Yesterday the humidity was down to 6% but it still felt hot. I've kind of forgotten how horrible both heat and humidity can be.

Ruth, Gods timing sure is perfect isn’t it??Is the pattern for a crocheted sword? How sweet of that mom to share her pattern for free. Hope that its a well designed and clearly written pattern so that you are not stuck trying to decipher someone else’s nightmare. Good for you working on another thermal stitch hotpad. Sometimes its just nice to have a project to fall back on which does not require thinking. Plus with working on the bookmarks, well that was all fine work with tiny crochet thread. I can imagine the thermal stitch hotpads are much more pleasant to work on and give a greater feeling of accomplishment.
Today is Dd#1 anniversary so the plan has always been for me to watch the little ones so she and DSIL could get out for a quick lunch. Worked out well - all the kids were napping and I did not have to do much of anything except make sure the little one was ok. He did wake up, but after Dd came home. I stopped at Dd#1 this am first- she is in the process of fixing up her home and its so cute. I am very happy for her and her Dh.
Yes, its hot and somewhat humid here too. Not my favorite weather....and I think we have a few more days like this. G

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - The scabbard and sword sounds like a fun project and I'm sure DGS will love it and use it. Hope you get some cooler weather soon. Ginny - I'm glad you had an easy time watching the grandkids. It's hot here too, but I'm not sure what the humidity is. I go outside quickly and get the mail and come back in I finished the purple blocks for this month, except for the small Broken Dishes block. I'll get to that. I laid out all the blocks I've done this year and I was kind of disappointed in how the hourglass blocks look together. I had hoped for it to have a soft look, but the fabrics and colors just don't go that well together. I guess this is the point of a scrappy quilt and it's taught me that I don't do well making those. Almost all the ones that I have done I have not liked. The bowtie blocks look a little better together but I think I'm going to have to pull out 2 of them (dark blues and dark greens) and go with just 9 finished blocks. We still have red and yellow to make and hopefully they will fit in with the ones already done. And then I'll try the golds and browns (I'll try to keep it a light brown). I guess I just need to play it by ear. I enjoy the challenge of pulling fabrics from my stash, but if I do this next year I think I need to make a different kind of block, maybe a log cabin. It seems like the scrappy quilts that are strip blocks or even maybe 4/9 patch blocks look better than the blocks I chose to do. Hope everyone is getting some crafting in and enjoying the weekend. Take care

I'm glad to hear that your dd and sil were able to get out for awhile to celebrate their anniversary and how nice that the children were napping. Even though it would be fun to play with them, having them sleep is also restful for you. I remember when I was visiting ds and ddil when their last daughter was born. She was the 6th. I think ds was at work and ddil asked me if I would mind babysitting while she went to have her hair done. I didn't mind at all and taking care of the six was not hard.
CJ, I'm sorry you're disappointed in your blocks. I do know that we, as crafters, are our own worst critics. I really like log cabins. I've been looking at them in crochet and am planning to do one to use up leftover yarn.
This sword pattern is a good one. It's nicely written and very clear. Of course it's a pretty simple pattern. Now the other night when I was doing a rectangle granny bookmark, that pattern was poorly written and you really had to stop and guess at what you were supposed to do next. She certainly had a unique way for us to do the granny rectangle which is usually very simple and easy. At first I thought she had left two parts of the pattern out.
On the sword I got the first piece of the sword done and started on the second then dh got up so we visited then I did some cooking and, of course, some kitchen cleaning. Then I decided to start to sort my yarn scraps and got a bit done but have a long way to go. I'm planning some hats, cowls, and some blankets with these scraps I have. ....after my August list is done.
