We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they've hatched! "will it work?"

Good morning!
So what do you think? Will the President's game of let's blame the Democrats because I'm not as good of a deal maker as I tried to pretend actually fool anyone? Are there really enough people out there gullible enough to fall for that? Or will it just serve to make more and more people who were blinded by his "pizazz" during the primaries and election wake-up to who he really is?
Will Republicans now come to the table and work with Democrats to fix the issues in Obamacare or will they continue to shout "repeal and replace" while ignoring the needs of the country?
Was this all just a shell game by Tweety to try and distract from the skeletons hidden in his closet that are being pushed further and further to the forefront?

What do you think about the likely plan by Democrats to filibuster and delay Gorsuch's nomination? Personally, I am opposed to it, and I really hope they reconsider and drop the plan although I don't think that's likely. Gorsuch is not my choice to fill the vacancy, but he seems to be a well qualified candidate whether or not I agree with his issue positions. The Republicans were dead wrong not to allow Obama's nominee who was also very well qualified to ever come to a vote. In my opinion Democrats will also be wrong to filibuster here. Bring it to a vote and don't drag your feet with delays which in the end will accomplish nothing. Vote yes or no, and move forward. What good will be accomplished if the Rs just answer the filibuster by changing the rules, which in the long run could prove to be damaging to all. There are many important issues that need to be dealt with. To me this seems like children arguing on the playground. If those in Congress are going to continue playing these tit-for-tat games, nothing meaningful is ever going to be accomplished. Just my thoughts, and probably some of you may see it differently.

Hi..
As long as money & power are in play, "tit for tat" & " playground arguing" will always be in play. That goes for all parties. I would love to hope it changes, but I think we are in for a rough ride & I just wonder if bipartisanship is just dead! Fake Prez has carried this all to a whole new level & unleased a whole bunch of hatred into every aspect of our world as we know it.
As for Gorscuh, he just comes across as a little to "folksy", too much "golly gee", etc. His answers seemed forced & rehearsed at times. I just wish this vote could be postponed since Prez is under investigation but I'm sure that won't happen. I wish the Dem's would be the bigger person in this, but you know even if they do, they will get "sh ! T" upon by Mconnell & rest of GOP elite. I guess, honestly, the Dem's can do want with the nominee. It's a damn if you do & a damn if you don't. I personally think SC Justices should not have Lifetime appointments but, say 15 years or something. Staggered appointments. Maybe it's time to think outside the box to eliminate so much bickering & fighting.
I'm at the point I'm just mentally weary of this whole thing!
Have a relaxing weekend!

Unfortunately yes, those that are devoted, die hard Trump supporters. However, I do think more and more he is losing them but not nearly as fast as it should be.

I am opposed to them blocking his nomination. He has said on the record that Trump's comments were "disheartening and demorilizing." He also said he was against overturning Roe v. Wade. If you block him and Trump gets the boot, you will have Pence - who spoke at the "I want to control YOUR reproductive choices" rally the weekend after the women's march. His SCOTUS pick will be FAR more consertive.
His answers seemed forced & rehearsed at times.
I agree. I just hope he isn't lying just to get the job - just like the deplorable that nominated him.

I also think the Dems should not waste time on a Gorsuch filibsuter, and move on to other matters. I don't like him, but Trump could appoint someone worse.

" He also said he was against overturning Roe v. Wade."
A politician will say anything to get what he's after. I don't believe it for a half a second.
He makes me sick. He made me even sicker when he turned and embraced his wife and babbled on about how much he loves her in front of the whole world. Gosh. Golly. Oh heck, isn't that special? I have a problem with grandiose displays of affection in public places. Get a room, will ya'? I don't care about your love life. I don't want to see you sucking face while the camera is rolling. Save it for a private moment and get on with the business at hand. I remember when Al and Tipper Gore pulled that. And yet, it's the Clinton's that are still together.
Loved one's returning home from war, after receiving medical treatment, getting out of prison, and other things of that nature are exempt. lol.

Agreed that while Gorsuch is not who I would have chosen, it could always be worse especially with Tweety doing the nominating, and I definitely do not trust Pence. He has already shown us how willing he is to lie, and his LGBT beliefs are from the Dark Ages (or maybe they were even more enlightened in the Dark Ages than Pence is now).

A commentary I read suggested Bannon may have been behind seeing the bill failed. Wanted to do something to bring down Ryan. Remembering that while most of the GOP has been down on the ACA for seven years, we are talking about Ryan's "dream" for the past 20 years.
Opposing is easy. Who knew governing would be so hard?

I think there are too may different sub groups of Republicans and that is why they find it so hard to govern and but so easy to oppose. And I totally think Bannon is trying to make Ryan take the entire blame for this debacle. Why do you think those Brietbart audio leaks came out a few weeks ago when it seriously looked like the AHCA was in trouble before it ever started?

Yes, I would agree that they are going to try to push this all off onto Ryan. It's clear they can't push the failure onto the Democrats, and Bannon has wanted to get rid of Ryan for a long time. Tweety certainly is not going to accept any responsibility, and he is now recognizing that he's got to push it somewhere other than the left thus today's tweets about the Freedom Caucus. There are some interesting opinion articles on CNN's site. Behind the scenes and anonymously aids in both the WH and Congress are expressing that Tweety didn't know what he was doing, and didn't seem to really even care about healthcare. He just thought he could follow his usual strategy in the business world where he is in total control of bullying everyone into doing what he wanted. Article I read said he really showed no interest at all in what the actual provisions of the law were, he just wanted to repeal and replace with anything; and, was shocked when his bullying tactics didn't work and someone actually said no to him.

Did you see that Trump tweeted to tune into a certain host on Fox for their show and the FIRST thing she said was that Paul Ryan should step down? He claims that he didn't know but come on, he knew. That is why he told his base to watch the show.

Bannon seems to be a master at pulling Tweety's puppet strings.

I read those same articles & watched some News shows that said same thing...Tweety had no interest in the actual details in health care bill, just wanted the boasting rights when it passed. He doesn't have a clue about anything!
Steve Bannon is PURE EVIL!

I just keep telling myself that sooner or later this is all going to blow up in Bannon and Tweety's faces. The hidden truth is going to come out, and personally, I think that is going to be when they find hard evidence of collusion with Russia. Even hardcore Tweety supporters won't accept his being in bed with Russia (or at least I don't think they will). But whatever it is whether it is Russia, inside dealing, or what, there is something out there that will blow this administration out of the water, or at least that's what I keep expecting. And as Nixon and even Clinton have found before him, the truth will eventually come out. You can't play as fast and loose with the truth and the rules as Tweety and Bannon have done all their lives and not have a lot of skeletons piled in the closet just waiting to fall out once the door is opened.
