My daughter contacted me this afternoon asking how her Uncle in Beirut was. I had no idea, till she told me, that there had been two explosions in Beirut. After talking to family in Beirut I learned that all are fine. I have a few friends that lost windows and had other problems with one injured by glass shards BUT the people I have been in touch with are fine.
This was not needed on top of the iffy economy, infrastructure problems, demonstrations, covid-19 and other things...but life goes on.
Anyway...wanted to let any of you that know I sometimes go to Beirut know that I am safe on my hilltop and was busy making tomato sauce from our garden's tomatoes and also made pickles today.
Wish the world was a kinder place sometimes.

I read that it seems to be an industrial accident at a place making fireworks. Very scary.

cathygeha, yes, thank you for checking in. I remembered you were a distance away from the city. Latest news is it was 2750 tons of ammonium nitrate stored unsecured in a warehouse for six years. I have heard reports of concerns about the food supply as it happened at the port, and Lebanon imports a lot. Also grain silo was destroyed.

cathygeha, finreporter, DotRen, Kitty, borntexan, DebDoesWW, cj59, linda72, bbbearsmom, lani, pbnj, doordie50, Holly Gail,
It feels good to know that so many friends around the world thought of me and hoped I was okay. It is a warm feeling almost like a hug and in covid-19 days hugs are rare and precious.
The news continues to trickle in.
The port has much trade and also stores wheat to be ground for the bread people depend on daily. All grain is unusable now. The numbers are climbing of dead, wounded and missing. More will be learned as time passes.
Thank you again for caring.
