Rene, glad you are ok!!!! These two storms were/are a real nightmare for the Gulf coast.
CJ- glad you are able to stay home....sorry about the heat though. (Hot here too!!!) and I admit, its easy to just drop off those letters at the PO and head home. Yes, clean and oil (if necessary ) that machine before you have some more fun with it. Our machines work hard for us and cleaning and a needle change does not take much time, although its not fun to do.
Ruth, congrats on finishing the shawl!! Did you ever get that beautiful afghan with the cross on it to DS and DDIL?
Sue - good to hear that you have cooler temps....and that Dd will be going to Wisconsin to stay safe. Distance learning can take place anywhere, right??
Busy day, time for me to try one more time to get the outdoor cat in and try to embroider a bit. G

HI oh yeah the jelly roll quilt. Joyce,Mary jo and were a Des Moines American Quilt show.were looking up something on the computer
vendor came in and told us about her booth.there was something about the jelly roll we could not figure out.don't remember what it was.
the next day we were at a vendor's booth she told us cut off the first 18 inches then sew the strips..that worked.
I had the girls over and we made the tops.think there was some where along the lines we cut the strips to make the top. don't remember much about that.
I still need to get my top sandwich and quilted. been laying around for years
I think Jenny does the jelly roll alot different then way back when.
Cj love all the quilts. I like the oh my stars better now that I have seen yours.very pretty.
today was my chiro treatment. he is putting into my pa to schuldle the si injection. also get me back into pt exercises.
I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THE SNOWFLAKE EMBROADIERY BLOCKS. HOPE AFTER THE INJECTION I WILL BE ABLE TO BE AT MY MACHINE MORE OFTEN. PHYL

Good morning Phyl, what are you going to do with the snowflake embroidery blocks?? Glad you got to the chiropractor - sounds like you are getting good treatment to manage your pain. I hope it all helps to keep you more comfortable.
I watched some tv last night and did get a bit more of embroidery in. The other day, my friend and I went to the quilt shop- we both had coupons and were very well behaved. I got the batting for the two Christmas quilts, also got some great ideas on how to quilt it as I have never made a quilt from a panel. Jane picked up what she needed to finish a quilt she will be making for her mom for Christmas. Lots of fabrics called my name.....but I will behave until I get the pattern for that Storm at Sea quilt. Then I am considering making that with batiks....have never played with batiks before.
Got some errands to run and will stop in to see Dd and the grandkids.

CJ, unfortunately these are all birthday gifts not Christmas. I will start the Christmas things as soon as I do the finishing on the birthday items which are almost all done except for weaving in ends or finishing stuffing and close them up.
Right now I'm working on a dino for youngest grandson. I thought I'd do a ragdoll version because it looked so much easier than the larger stuffed one. Well there are sure a lot of parts to this "easy" pattern so I'm not sure this was the best choice after all.

Hi girls, we got rain this am. yippee! got about a inch..probably to late for the farmers corn fields.
we went to the quilt shop In Winona.going up the Minnesota side trees are green, you can tell they are losing their color.
coming back on the Wisconsin side the corn fields are looking sad. dried up and burnt looking.
I went to the Quilt shop for2 fall charm packs. no fall charm packs.came home with Holly Taylor 2 winter white charm packs,a winter white panel trimmed in burgundy (pictures have a winter scene in the panel. and a pattern and fabric and backing. yep I did spend more then I intended.
the snow flake blocks will be a quilt unless I make table runner and wall hanging out of them..phyl

Hello Crafters Ruth - Sorry I missed that those were birthday gifts, of course it's still good to have them done. And here I was all impressed that you had already finished Christmas gifts Phyl - Hope the things your doctor is doing for you will help. I'm glad you were able to make some purchases at the quilt store, sounds like you found some nice things. I want to make a fall/autumn quilt too - seems like everything is Christmas right now when I check out websites. Ginny - The Storm at Sea quilt in batiks would be beautiful. I bet there are lots of pictures of Storm at Sea quilts on the Internet, maybe you can find a few in batiks. But those blue, green and purple colors in the original quilt are beautiful too. Sue and Rene - Hope you are doing some crafting. It's hot and humid here again today, with some rain coming tomorrow (remnants of Hurricane Laura), after that I'm looking forward to some cooler weather. Someone was messing around with my mailbox last night and it will pushed sideways. Fortunately I have it secured pretty well and they weren't able to knock it down. I went outside a few times today and did some more securing, so hopefully that will help if they try again. I'm so tired of living in a place where people are like this, and also on a busy road I was looking around at some websites today and found several free quilt patterns that I saved. I have a bunch of patterns right now, so I need to go through them and see which ones I'd want to make first. There's another sew-along coming up in September that has quilt blocks and embroidery blocks, but you can substitute for the embroidery. This is for a table runner that will be long and will measure 55x16. It's going to be Christmas themed (two versions - Christmas or Holiday), but of course you could use anything. If any of you are interested in signing up for the emails, here's a link: jacquelynnesteves.com/falala/?ck_subscriber_id=886143813I'm not sure if the above link will work or not. I couldn't figure out how to add an email address, but maybe because I'm already on her list. Take care everyone and have a good weekend

CJ, I can only wish you were right about my Christmas gifts. Both your links worked. I like the picture of the block that was on there.
We went out to go to our bank where we went thru the drive thru. This bank has all it's lobbies closed so you have to do everything online, drive thru, or ATM. Dh had to take some money out and I tried to deposit a check that was sent to me by my auto ins co but they made a mistake on it so I have to wait until I get a corrected one. Then dh decided that he want to go into Walmart. They had not one but two large signs that said that they required face coverings. We had our masks with us but the majority of people in the store did not have masks. Those masks are hard to breathe thru. The people that did have masks on kept doing what I was doing and touching it to readjust or lifting it so they could breathe which, of course makes it pretty ineffective anyway but what can you do. We bought a bit of food so shouldn't have to go back for awhile.
Anyway I'm pretty tired because I had a huge problem getting to sleep last night then all the walking and carrying groceries into the house and putting it all away.So I don't know exactly what I'm going to do the rest of the evening.

Hey CJ- well I was unable to see much of the sew along, so I signed up for the table runner!! Ha ha ha....anxious to see what it all turns out to look like and if I have time and fabric to put it together. Sounds like fun however. Thanks for the heads up on Laura- I am supposed to get rain too and thought it was the remains of Laura. SO very sorry about your mail box. Bet you wish you could make it mounted in steel reinforced cement so that anyone who attempted to vandalize it would be hurt in doing so. That has to be so frustrating for you.
Phyl- sounds like you are having a great time picking up gorgeous fabric....got plans for the fabric?? What project will you be working on? Glad you got some rain- better late than never for sure. Looks like you might be using the fabric for a table runner or a quilt....or even a wall hanging. Sounds so pretty. Is Winona a long drive for you?
Ruth, wow that stinks that the rag doll version of the dinosaur has so many parts and is a challenge to put together. I always wonder how patterns are rated....I wonder if a more difficult pattern might be easier for you because you are so gifted with a crochet hook. Is this Dino a birthday gift or for Christmas?
Hoping to get some embroidery in.....hard to believe tomorrow is Saturday. Ginny

Ruth, yes the mask situation is so very frustrating for sure. My friend sent me a new mask pattern that fits over the nose better ( keeps glasses from fogging as much), of course that will not help breathing one bit. Sorry that banking has become so inconvenient. Same for me.....I now have to use the app to deposit checks. It works but seems crazy that now the banks are having us do all their work for them. I am sure you and Dh washed your hands super well after visiting Walmart. So frustrating.

So many projects, so many ideas! Never enough time!
Over the last 26 years I have had so much fun experimenting with patterns, colors, textures, fiber, gardening, ceramics, spinning, weaving, quilting, knitting crochet.
I wish I had started this journey of fun before I retired, but there were never enough hours in the day! I still have ideas that spin off ideas that spin off ideas etc.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today I guess it's obvious that I always have lots of ideas too and want to make more quilts than I'll ever be able to get done Since we all think the same way, I think it's the sign of a creative mind I pulled out all my "solid" color fabrics today - these are ones that read as a solid without a large print. And then I was looking at some of my focus fabrics - things like florals, Christmas, novelty, theme fabrics, etc. I have about 6 or so patterns I want to make, so I'm taking the pattern and pulling the fabrics for it and then making a sort of "kit". This way I can pull the kit when I'm ready to make something new and I'll have the fabrics all ready. If I get really ambitious I might start cutting up the fabrics too, then it would be really easy to pull one to make a quilt top. Several of these patterns are for the 3 Yard quilts like I made a few months ago. It helps that I only need a yard of each fabric, since some patterns call for more and it's disappointing to find I don't have enough fabric. I guess the trick is to buy at least 2 yards of a fabric that I like when I see it. I'd like to get back to a quilt shop or even JoAnn's and pick up some fabrics, but I'm still not that comfortable with shopping in those stores. I guess the virus is about as bad as it's going to get around where I live, so maybe I should start venturing out to more stores. We had some rain and hail with thunderstorms yesterday, more rain this morning, but it seems to be over now. August has been a very wet month for us. I hope September is drier. Take care everyone and have a great weekend

Sue- i had the same experience- its challenging to seriously craft when trying to keep down a full time job and care of a spouse. There just are not enough hours in a day. Sounds like you have had a lot of fun in the craft world....and Lord willing will be blessed with many more opportunities to continue to do so. CJ- so you think you have only 6 or so patterns that you would like to quilt (interpret 6 or so as 12? Ha ha ha). That is a great idea to make up your own quilt kits- so when the spirit moves you you are ready to go. Lots of times I waste time looking for stuff when I really want to just get started- and you have made that much easier for yourself. Regarding being out in Joanns- I know each of us has our reasons for not going out- but we know you are a cautious individual and would wear a mask and practice excellent hand hygiene. I would think that now is a good time to shop for fabric- before there is a fall up tick in Covid cases and before flu season begins. Even the high humidity we are experiencing is supposed to help keep the spread of the virus down. You will do what you are most comfortable with- but I think now is a better time to fabric shop than later. Off to work on an embroidered butterfly G
