It sure feels weird starting this weeks thread off with the month September in the date. Feels like September here this morning- its in the mid 50 degrees here.Pleasant weather for sure...
Ruth, good to see you check in last night. Were you and Dh able to get your kitchen plumbing issue resolved? Sounds like it was one of those days in which you got wrapped up in other projects, its rare that we do not hear that you have crocheted in a day. But then its good to take a break from time to time also. How is your wrist? For awhile it was a bit sore (perhaps it was your hand). As this summer winds down....did you ever get a garden in? In the past you tried to grow zucchini and had little luck. Its usually this time of the summer that the bounty of the garden becomes aparent. My DD’s garden has been super productive- she has pumpkins and squash (butternut), cucumbers, tomatoes, beans....the list goes on.. For a small garden its impressive. Anyway, I wonder if you were able to plant your garden, and how it is. Has the distant smoke ended??
Still did not finish the embroidery project....but I did get some done. Happy Monday...see ya later G

Hello Crafters - Welcome to another week Yeah, I can't wait for September I can't believe I survived the summer. At least I found a good position for my portable AC this summer where the heat in the house was tolerable. I'm just looking forward to the cooler fall weather. Phyl - That trip on the water sounds so nice, I'm glad you were able to do that. Ginny - The sunrise over the lake sounds wonderful too, what a nice thing to do and enjoy. Ruth - Hope you were able to get back to your crocheting. I cleaned out my sewing machine on Saturday and put a new needle in the machine. My SIL had given me some Chrome needles that she said are really good, so I put one of those in the machine. I ended up with 5 quilt kits (pattern and fabric) to put aside and work on when I can. I put all the rest of my fabric away. I also placed an order with Jordan Fabrics for a Log Cabin pre-cut set of fabrics and a jelly roll. Once I get those I'll two more quilt tops to make. That should keep me busy for awhile Take care everyone and have a great day!

Well, Ginny, you will complete the embroidery soon even if it's just a little at a time. As to my garden well the only gardening I did this year was transplanting the little tomato plants I started indoors from seeds into the large outdoor pots. Then about a week ago I forgot to water them for a couple days and they all wilted badly. I did water them then and they picked up a little but then I got tired of them so let them die off and day before yesterday I picked off all the tomatoes (which wasn't very many) and pulled the plants. I planted that lettuce indoors and got enough for one salad. So my gardening didn't consist of much this year. I haven't even done much in the yard since the beginning of spring.
I did get the parts for the dino done but I still have to put on the face and crochet it together.
CJ, haing those kits all set to work with will be a real handy thing.

CJ, Do you have glad you found a good place to put the air conditioner! It’s just so important that were able to stay comfortable during the warm days of summer and I’m sure there’s gonna be a few warm days until mid to late September too. Well that’s impressive that you have five kids ready to go of quilts. I wonder how long that’ll keep you busy for? And I’m glad that you ordered that fabric from Jordan fabrics, what are your specific plans for the fabric that you placed an order for? Let me know what you think of those chrome needles for your machine. What is the chrome supposed to be better for? I have to say I’ve never used chrome needles before. It’s good to clean out your machine from time to time, and also take it in to have it serviced once in a while. My girlfriend has a Brother that doesn’t need to be oiled, I don’t think my husky needs to be oiled either. Your Brother sure seems to be dependable.
Ruth -well, some years are good for gardening and summer not. Sounds like your summer was particularly dry. I’m glad that you got one salad! Homegrown lettuce is so delicious and there’s nothing like it in the stores! Perhaps next year will be better year for you for growing things. Are there any farmers markets nearby you so that you can get homegrown vegetables into the fall? Glad that you’re making good progress on the dinosaur, all those little pieces would drive me nuts. Back to gardening, I did manage to pick enough green beans tonight to go with my dinner. I don’t think there’s much else on my plants, so maybe I’ll get another meal full of green beans in a week or two. But I didn’t take very good care of this garden. Thanks for the encouragement on my embroidery. Yes little by little I’ll get it done.
I have junk pick up in my area starting next week. So I’ve lamented over getting rid of my mothers sewing machine so that I could put my old black singer in her sewing cabinet. My mom’s been gone five years, and I never took the machine out of the cabinet when I moved it up here from her house. Well briefly I opened the cabinet today and found out that her machine is a complete and total disaster it’s out on the curb already for junk pick up. Her machine isn’t worth anything anyway, but now after looking at the condition it’s in I can get rid of it without any guilt.
Time to watch the news and embroider Ginny

Hello Crafter - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - I'm glad you were able to see that your mother's machine isn't any good and you can get rid of it without guilt. It's really tough throwing out our parent's things, isn't it? I've heard the chrome needles don't get hot like regular needles (which I didn't know they did) and so these needles sew better dealing with the fabric. I probably wouldn't have bought them myself, but it was a nice gift from my SIL. My less expensive Brother doesn't get oiled either. It's a great little machine. The Jordan Fabrics items I bought are 2 things - a log cabin kit in Oriental fabrics (the fabric strips are already cut) and a jelly roll. I've seen a quilt pattern I want to try with the Jelly Roll. I'll post a picture once I get my order. Ruth - I'm glad you got the parts for the dino done. Sorry you only had enough lettuce for one salad, but I'm sure it tasted good I love the idea of a garden, but hate the work I went out this morning and had the oil changed in my car. It's been almost a year since I had it done last and I was getting worried about neglecting things on my new car. I'd only gone a little over 2000 miles in the that year, but I know the oil was old. I also mailed a letter and got some groceries - now I'm stocked up again for a bit. I went in a drug store too - the first time I've been in one of those since March. There are some things you get at a drug store that are just hard to find at grocery stores. I did have trouble finding the vitamins I'm using, none at the drug store or grocery store. I have enough for another month or so but I'll have to look in Target and a different grocery store the next time I shop. I always seem to like things that are not popular! Now I just need to set up a few medical appointments and do some other shopping (office supply, etc.) and I'll be caught back up to all that I missed doing since March. I'm also going to try to do a little decluttering each day through the end of this year. Maybe by then I'll have enough cleared out that it will be easier to move. Hope everyone gets to do some crafting today. Take care!

CJ, I had to laugh about your oil change. I was keeping up on mine with the time periods but back last October I went and they didn't even change the oil because I had only put the mileage to the dealership on the car since that time before. I still have less than 400 miles on it. I got it changed on that infamous day, March 11th which was my last day out until just recently. Anyway they told me to come back in a year for the next change. In March it still didn't have mileage but they still changed it because the oil was old.I was concerned about keeping up the warrantly.
Maybe you can order your vitamins online. I've ordered quite a few vitamins and other supplements online.
I'm on a cleaning kick right now. I have a feeling dh is going to want to take a couple days trip somewhere and I want the house to be clean while we're gone...that sounds silly but that's just me. Gonna go vacuum now.Now that school is back in session either in physical school or remote learning the parks and all should have a lot less people and some will have none so we can camp out and not have contact with people

hi girls,
Ruth I do not think wanting a clean house is silly.I like a clean house or presentable when we come back. does not always work out way. think it makes us feel even better with our own beds, showers. who wants to unpack and have to clean within a few days? oh yeah I have done it.
I soaked the burgundy fabric today. got a lot of pink out of it.so then I put in the machine on cold rinse and spin. this is the fabric winter white by Holly Taylor
I will have to figure out something different for the panel. I use it the way it is now it will be way to long when I add the boarders.do not want to make a table runner out of it.
got a nice surprise in the mail yesterday.the Pickett Fence sent me a gift card for 23.00 dollars. they have something called perks.think you have to spend so much no time limit.will have to check it out. they also have a program they keep track of your spent money and you get a card.the none weekend a month you can buy 5 things at full price and get 25% of each of the 5 things.
oh no I will not be running up there every month. I happen to be there fine. still does not mean I would do it. in my book 25% off is not much.oh I know 5 things 25% can add up.first you have to know what you want and have a idea how much you want to spend. not just on a whim. phyl

This is a truly beautiful day! It's windy, there are clouds floating past, and the sky is a beautiful blue. No smoke today. It's supposed to be very windy tomorrow.
I see some branches here and there where the leaves are trying change.
One of the quilters has invited the group to bring a chair, your own drink, and your current project on Thursday. It will be outside. Sounds good, but I'm not going. Our covid numbers aren't horrible, but there is an uptick in cases.

CJ, wow another amazing quilt. You're definitely going to be busy making all these beautiful patterns that you see. I really love this one and the fabrics she chose (or whoever chose them if it was a kit)
Thank you Phyl, yes it's awful to come home to a house that doesn't require you to start cleaning immediately. And congrats on that $23 bonus! I like places that give you rewards for shopping at their facility and yet doesn't raise their prices to compensate for the things they give.I always try to use a credit card that gives bonuses if I use one.

Good evening!!
CJ- that pumpkin quilt is adorable and I dont blame you for wanting to make that. I am sure you will find perfect fabrics for the quilt and that it will be stunning when you are done with it. Do you think you have the fabrics in your home to make it?? I agree with Ruth- try Walmart, Amazon, etc for your vitamins. During this shutdown I found a few things like that that were just easier to order online than hunt in stores for what I wanted. I am looking forward to seeing what you ordered from Jordan Fabrics- the log cabin quilt sounds so pretty. Congrats to you for getting some decluttering done each day. It sure does feel better to have an uncluttered home!!
Sue, so glad you are having great weather and are starting to see the beautiful fall colors. Such a lovely time of year. If it were me, I might try to go to the quilt meeting, but then there is no accounting for how others behave. I am sure you would be responsible- its a shame that others do not understand the need to act maturely and show consideration not only for themselves but others.
Ruth, my Dh always used to pick on me because I would never go on vacation without cleaning the house from top to bottom first. I like to come home to a clean home and the feeling that “the maid” was just there. As it is, coming home from a trip you will have to unpack and have some laundry. Having to clean the minute you get home seems cruel. So I do not think you are nuts at all. And like CJ and you, I went for an oil change about a month ago. They almost laughed me out of there....I don’t put many miles on my car. They told me to come back in mid winter for my next oil change.
Phyl- the quilt shop I go to also offers a points program for free merchandise. That is why I went there the other week- both my friend and I had coupons like what you got from Pickett fence.
Went to a small zoo today with Dd and the grandkids. Great to be outdoors and cause it was cloudy with a few sprinkles no one was there. The kids enjoyed doing something “normal”. So much has been closed this summer....this zoo opened about a month ago and then had to close due to damage from Hurricane Isaias. Lots of large trees fell, but its all good now.
Off to embroider. Ginny

I actually did get some more work done on this last butterfly....but was tired and did not finish. The end is in sight however.
So I brought out my old black singer machine and saw that it will fit in the sewing machine table . That was the plan- my first machine has been sitting in a closet for years and now at least can be more properly stored. It still runs- or at least did. Gotta now go through all my sewing stuff and find what I had saved from my mom’s machine, which can be thrown out now and what I need to keep for my old singer. A short while ago, I had checked the value of both machines on ebay- the touch and sew (my moms) you cannot give away- many are for sale and valued around $10 to$20. The funny story about that is when my mom was in assisted living ( a mile from my home) we decorated her room with all her own furniture. Honestly, it was a lovely room, Dh and I worked hard to get it so that she would feel comfortable in it. The ONE thing she kept bugging me about was that she wanted her sewing machine with her. She had not sewn in years but had many happy memories of it. This machine, which has been in my home in a clean heated room is in disgusting condition- so I can figure that cause its had been in my moms home in a poorly maintained room, that most of its decay too place in her house. I remember once, about 10 years ago, bringing my singer down to her house to make a few of those 30 minute table runners as I visited with her. ( we had had so much fun going to Joanns to shop for fabric for her ). I remember that I took a super quick look at her machine, saw it was a dusty mess, and used my machine. Anyway, I am happy to have my old singer out again. I probably wont use it, but will keep it as an extra table in my sewing room, a room that houses my Husqvarna. So getting the singer finally set in this table will be on my list of stuff to do today. Also am heading to the store for a few items...

CJ, the pumpkin quilt is cute and so appropriate for the next few months! It would make a great wall hanging for my entryway! Or a throw.
I've had the sprinklers off for several days. Our last T storm brought a deluge of rain with it, but the temps are going to be hot again for five days with gusty winds today.
It's time to start putting outside things away for the winter.
