I'm afraid he can't honor what RBG asked him to do. He is not familiar with the word honor.

birdgal, i don't have much faith either. after all he's done these past four years, you would think his numbers would be absolutely tanked. the fact that polls show him even anywhere close to biden shows you that all the racist pricks of the country applaud his lying cheating ways, his third-rate vocabulary, his "i'm just saying what you all (racist pricks) are thinking!" etc.
we never had this much clarity into how poor the US public education system is until now. we knew it sucked, but this is off the charts.

I can't get over all this America First BS, when these people apparently know nothing about how their goverment was designed and intended to work.

finreporter, yep. I don't identify as Christian but I have been reading a few pages each night from an old Pocket Book of Verse, and there are a number of passages from the Bible. From last night's reading (Christ on Charity): "Charity envieth not; Charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, Seekest not her own, is not eaily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; ...And now abideth Faith, Hope, Charity, these three; But the greatest of these is Charity." Oh well...

state of FL republicans show just how scared they are to allow people to vote. cliffs notes version: the voters of FL approved of allowing felons the right to vote once they've completed their sentences. then the state went woah WTF no! and demanded that they pay all outstanding fines first before allowing them to vote (in essence, a "poll tax" which is illegal). so an organization started fundraising. bloomberg contributed $16M towards this fundraising effort. the republicans in the state office again went woah WTF no! we were trying to get you guys not to vote at all, we meant. just so that's clear, y'all! and so the AG has asked the FBI to look into it and see if it's ok for others' to pay the fines on felons' behalves. so fricken obvious. the voter suppression is heavy on this one. www.npr.org/2020/09/25/916626848/florida-republicans-take-aim-at-efforts-to-pay-felons-fines-so-they-can-vote

I had started re-reading "Inside the Third Reich" by Albert Speer. I read it the first time as a teen or early 20's and found it fascinating. It explained how Hitler was able to rise in power and why he had so many followers. The similarities to what is happening now are frightening.

Lani, many years ago I attended bible studies. At that time the chapter you quoted was called The Love Chapter. The word wasn't Charity back then, it was Love.
Same thing I guess. Love never fails.

birdgal, I think there is a lot of translation difference from the original bible to English, depending on the time frame. The book I was quoting from was published in 1943. It's kind of cool as it was my dad's book that he took with him during the war when he was building bridges in the Aleutians. I am mid-way through Rage, Woodward's latest. Aside from all the stuff you've seen on TV, it is fascinating to see the behind the scenes, the military thinking, diplomatic thinking, i.e. how it used to work vs. now. It really seems like DT has moral leprosy and anyone who stays too long in his orbit starts to deteriorate morally in order to keep working with him. Also I did not realize the extent of Kushner's involvement. He is scary, just as focused on money and power only, smarter, but not as charismatic as his FIL. I know, we find DT repellant, but obviously he has charisma to his followers.

Although I don't have any religious leanings these days I still have my bible collection. Some in Latin, Greek, and a Torah in Hebrew.
I smile when I think of a guy running into another guy who owes him money and reminding the borrower to, "Pay me what thou owest me." It sounds more polite compared to what might be said today, "Hey dude you owe me money pay up man!"
The bible does say neither a borrower or a lender be. Or, something like that. Lol.
Lani, it really is very cool that you have your Dads bible. That is a treasure!

Cult worshippers are drawn to their leaders like moths are drawn to fire, usually with the same result.
Cult leaders, politicians, religious folks and many others, manage to tap into our deepest desires. Love, acceptance, community, peace, even eternal life. Who could walk away from that?
However, there is always a "yeah, but" attached. A list of do's and do not's. As well as guilt and judgement.
If the guilt and judgement outweighs the peace and serenity, what good is that?
Btw, the people that cheer on a liar, a sexual pervert, a bully and a thug are probably just like him. Vultures of a feather.
They have convinced themselves that don is just like them and cares about them.
He would throw them under a bus and walk over their smashed body without blinking an eye.
Blind faith is not a good thing. It's a terrible, dangerous, and deadly thing.

birdgal, it's a book of poetry that happens to have a few bible verses. Borrower nor lender is from Shakespeare, I believe, but maybe he stole it from the bible? I'm still concerned about the states that have Democratic governor and Republican legislatures not being able to agree on the electors, throwing it to the House, the House votes, one vote per state, viola 26 to 23 for you-know-who. This is only a nightmare scenario that I have seen in a couple of places, most recently this morning on Fareed Zakaria's GPS. He is no alarmist and tries to think things out carefully and talk to experts. I am hoping enough Biden voters vote in person in swing states and nip this BS in the bud. Stay tuned...
