Hello Crafters - Can't believe we are almost halfway through this month. I don't want the fall months to go fast, just the summer ones Ruth - I'm thankful everything went well for your niece and great-nephew, that sounds like it was a serious situation. Ginny - I'm glad the baptism went well and you all had a good time together. I think that fabric line is really cute. Several other stores are selling the fabrics - like Keepsake Quilting and Fat Quarter Shop, but I didn't see any precut sets. www.fatquartershop.com/nsearch/?q=timber+gnomies - here are some of the fabrics in this collection. It has nice colors to it and I can see adding tans and reds to make a quilt. Phyl - Hope you figure out what you want to do today and enjoy some quiet time again. Sue and Rene - Hope you are crafting. It seems a bit cooler today, and at least there is a nice breeze. It feels nice to get done with the summer heat. I know I've mentioned I live on a busy road. Yesterday I was sitting at my computer and a car/truck went down the road and had a loud backfire noise. It shook my house a bit and caused my home alarm to go off! I had the company that installed them put in some special ones for glass breaking, so I guess that is what was triggered. At least I know they work LOL. I woke up around 4:30 or so just feeling anxious. There are so many terrible things going on in our country/world and I have some family members that are having medical issues and then all the problems I have in the house - I guess they are all just weighing on my mind. I hope I can get back to my quilt I started or do some needlework, I know those activities are calming. Take care everyone and have a good day!

Here's the fabric layer cake I ordered and might use for the Pat Sloan quilt along. I bought a few coordinating fabrics from the selection that you can see if you click the link below: www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/browse/773 - click to see the fabrics shown separately

Ginny - I meant to answer your question about what sew along was next. It's the Fa La La sew along by Jacquelynne Steves (Sew Quilty Friends Facebook). This one is a combination of patchwork blocks and embroidery blocks. jacquelynnesteves.com/falala/If you sign up for her emails for this sew along, she is sending the 4 embroidery patterns at the beginning so people have time to work on them. I'm really going to try to do those this time since I didn't do them on the last sew along (Silver Linings). www.facebook.com/groups/SewQuiltyFriends.JacquelynneSteves/I think this will be one of the embroidery patterns (but I'm not sure - I hope so though since I think it's cute and easy):

Thanks CJ for updating me on the Jacqueliynne Steves Fa la la quilt. I did signup for her email- and I think its adorable. If I were to do it, as much as I love to embroider, I would probably not do embroidery on it. Just don’t have that amount of time. I am really happy that you will be doing that and i LOVE your blue fabric collection for the Pat Sloan quilt along. I saw that and it really called my name- think it will be charming for that quilt. What I love is that its slightly non traditional Christmas fabrics and you will be able to keep this quilt out long into spring. I am so very very sorry about your housing issue...and that you have family members who are not well. I have turned off most of the news- honestly, God is in control of what is going on and obviously will take care of it all. Its just more of an emotional roller coaster than I want to be on- so I read or watch something soothing instead. You have mentioned several times that you would like to relocate- and I know what a massive undertaking it is and what an emotional decision it is. Perhaps can you chat with your brother to help gain some clarity about it?? I will pray about it for you- and hope that you can decide to do what is best for you. Hope too that your ill family member improves too. Thanks for posting the layer cake.....so pretty for sure! I like the Gnomes too. I will check out the rest of the line.
Phyl- I dont know you all that well, but the fall stuff seems so short lived, that I have put mine out already. I enjoy fall colors- so I guess I figure you will also. I hear ya, MSQ has gone to a lot of prepackaged sewing notions since the covid outbreak, but I guess they are easier to distribute as mail order items. I figure in a few more months they will go back to more normal products for them- like fabrids. I have bought fabric from them post covid....and they sold out of the Gnome fabric- I really like the jelly roll they used as a replacement too. Sounds like you are glad Ruby has gone home. Enjoy the peace and quiet.
bible study resumes tonight and we are meeting in person. I really wish we would continue to meet virtually.... I am lazy. Had to work this am and pm- will do the same tomorrow. its much more work than I am used to recently but I am helping a driver (who is fighting cancer) re-train to return to work. So yes, I am tired, and am getting paid for this, but feel good because my coworker has gotten behind in his bills because he was unable to work.
Not sure if I will bbl- hoping tomorrow is more sane for me. Ginny

CJ, there are lots of horrible things happening right now. It's difficult to forget or ignore many things. I find that my attention is divided. I can go along for days on a calm serene path and then WHAM! Then it takes a while to readjust.
I've just started going into my bedroom for an hour or two in late afternoon. It's an escape from the TV. I close my eyes, stretch out my back, put on my oxygen and read or listen to music. That seems to help my attitude, my back and my emotional stability. The breaks caregivers are supposed to take twice a year aren't part of my reality, so I take mini breaks during the day. I used to have time in the morning and the evening, but that's been eroded.
I saw a really cute crocheted door hanger kit that I think I'm going to get. I have lots of reds, greens and whites that I will probably use to to make more. A little project.
The fire in the canyon across the valley is 77% contained, thanks in large part to the one day drop in temperature and snow at higher elevations. The pole barn / cabin is okay. Today is another red flag extreme fire hazard warning. Snow is gone. Horrible smoke from California today.
I should get a call tonight about the highest offer on my sister's house and close at the end of the month. Little by little, things are getting checked off the list. This is the strangest property sale I've ever dealt with, but it's happening anyway. Long distance, lots of as is Probate sales in Nevada.

Sue. Glad to know that the end of the tunnel is coming regarding your sisters home. What a relief that will be to have that sold. Equally good news that the fire is becoming contained.....but it sure does sound like you are still going to be challenged by the fire. Prayers that weather cooperates and the fire is out soon. They say that focused breathing- slow even breaths for a minute or two are good for stress relief. (I follow a protocol on my fitbit for that). Perhaps something like that might help calm you....its not going to take your troubles away but just help you cope. Who is selling this adorable crochetted door hanger kit?? I agree, think you should get it!! Sounds like a fun and light hearted project.
Started working on the pocket shawl....only on the first row, so I will be at this a along time. Heading out to Bible study soon. G

CJ, I love the fabric you showed. I like blues and silvers for Christmas more than the traditional red and green. I still have to go to that link you posted but since all the ones you post are wonderful I'm sure this one will be also. Yes the state of our country is enough to make anyone anxious and/or depressed. Between the virus arguments and the political ones it's enough to drive a person crazy.
Sue, we don't have much smoke here, just a little hazy but it's been getting worse throught the day. The women on the lifetimers thread that live in Iowa say they have a lot of smoke from the western fires. I didn't know you were on oxygen. Does the smoke aggravate your breathing problem? I don't know how anyone that is a caregiver would be able to get away a couple times a year for even a few days so taking those rest breaks are probably all the help you can get. Luckily you have that one that comes in a couple times a week Luckily for your hubby, you are still able to have him at home.Oh and get that kit. Crochet is usually very relaxing for me and maybe it helps you also
Ginny, it's so kind of you to work so that you can help that coworker to be able to get back to work. But then, again, you are a kindhearted person.I bet you'll be surprised at how fast the shawl is done. The part I didn't like was having to sew on pockets. Of course if it wasn't so wide you could just make it longer and fold up the ends to form pockets. I think the pockets I'm making right how are too wide. I have to go look and see how wide most people make theirs but they all do look pretty wide...wider than I'd like to have if I made one for myself.
Hello to Rene, Phyl and anyone else looking in
I'm working on the pockets now for that fp treble cluster stitch shawl. Then I just have to do a couple rows of sc for a border on the shawl and sew on the pockets and it will be done.

Hello Crafters Ginny - Hope you enjoyed your bible study and they were able to set it up so you were safe. Sue - I'm glad to hear the fire is getting contained. And I hope things go well with your sister's house sale, so you can be finished with that - long distance dealings have to be difficult. Ruth - Hope you were able to get your shawl finished. It's a lot cooler here today, so my kind of weather. I slept pretty good last night and didn't get up as much, which is more normal for me. I'm thinking that maybe the cooler house and temps outside help. Hope everyone is doing well and that you have a good day

Good afternoon CJ and all who come in. CJ, your weather cooled, mine got hotter. It was over 90 today after that huge snow storm on Mon night/Tues.
I got the shawl done except for weaving in a couple ends and sewing on pockets. I tried taking a picture but my phone's camera takes really bad pictures. It was very blurry and the colors didn't come out right. It looks way better in person. Now I have the pockets to do on three shawls, two more items to make then I can wrap and pack everything to send. I'l like to have it all sent by the end of this month.
CJ, I never did get those kits made up but as soon as I finish these things I'm going to make a kit for each of the six pocket shawls and two blankets I need to get done for Christmas presents. I'd also like to get one done for myself but that may be awhile. It would be good to have something like that to keep shoulders warm in the winter even inside the house.
Ok projects are calling.

I was watching the weather channel to get an update on Hurricane Sally and saw the most incredible video. A man (In California) was being driven for the first time after the wildfire was contained in his area to check his property. At this point all you know is that he is a 60 year old homeowner.....well they get to the top of the road- where his home is and he gets out of the vehicle and walks to his house. He walks to his home.....drops to his knees and starts crying with joy (and thanking God) for sparing his house and that he would have a place to sleep tonight!!! His house was a small trailer and a tiny shed next to it. A very very humble dwelling- for this man, it was his palace. Such a nice video to see.
Ruth, congrats on almost finishing the shawls.....you are so close and will be done with them in no time!!! What are your next projects? Do you know what you will be working on next?? Hope that you have a box ready so you can pack all these wonderful gifts right into it.
CJ-hurray for cooler temperatures and good sleeping weather! Think we all forget how much nicer it is to sleep when its not too hot....and with fall here it is such a comforting end to summer heat. You have not mentioned any more migraines- and I am happy for you that they seem to be gone for now.
I am going back in tomorrow am to work with that coworker again. He is getting paid to be retrained- so its not a waste of his time. He seemed more confident today and from what I am seeing I think he will be ok to drive with students on. I don’t blame the supervisor for suggesting he go for more training however. So I will work with him again and hope that I can get him back on the road. This am, I was the standby bus (waiting for kids who issued the bus) and had no students....I did get some crocheting time in and have completed the first 3 rows of the shawl. Also finished the book I was reading, so even though i was at work, it was easy. I don’t plan on working this much all school year (as a matter of fact I cannot)- but its been nice to get out a bit.
Guess that is it for me this evening....have a good night all Ginny

Worked this am- training or should I say retraining two drivers....one should be ready to go, the other needs a LOT of work. This is all very temporary- the other trainer is out on medical leave (I think) so I am able to help out a bit more, In a few weeks (and as soon as these two drivers are ready to be on the road again) I wont have to work much.
My sky here in NYstate is hazy, we are getting smoke from the California fires- some 3000 miles away.
Ruth was right, I was actually able to work my way through that shawl pattern and am sort of on auto pilot with it now. The woman does a decent job of describing, I just need to be patient enough to work my way through her video.
BBL to see who checks in Ginny
