Welcome to our 2020 Alcohol Free All The Way Board!
If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post.

BUILD A WALL OF RESOLVE, BRICK BY BRICK NEW CHALLENGE September 6 through October 31
Accountability: experiencing consequences for performance or actions. Accountability is essential for an organization, for a society, and for a person.
In other words, with accountability, a person will assume ownership of their own action because they will face consequences. Accountability is what we’ll call it, but think of it as both incentive and insurance. Establishing accountability helps us to stay the course, even when our former ways tempt us. If a little accountability is good, and more is better, then let’s go all in on this challenge.
What should we be accountable for in this challenge? Pick one, all, or anything in between. Feel free to add your own accountability goal and let others join you.
ACCOUNTABILITY CHOICES!

While DH was out getting a cashier's check for the golf cart, UPS delivered two boxes to the door with a set of keys on top- DH's missing keys. I don't know if the UPS driver found them in the yard or what. I thought about running out to the truck to ask him, but didn't. Ironically earlier in the day I found another set of missing keys in my car that had been missing for months. Maybe the gremlin in the house picked yesterday to return everything he took. The people we bought the golf cart from delivered it around 4pm. It was raining so we did not get to take it for a spin. Hopefully we can take it to the nature trail this morning.
I'm afraid my soreness might be coming back now that I'm done with the steroids. I need to get working on stretching, maybe that's the habit I need to develop.
Murphy- Glad you are sleeping well. Sorry about the computer issues and the issues the daughter of your cousin is having with the boyfriend. I hope she is now done with him for good. Hope the HOA meeting went well.
GG- Hope your leg is better. Yay for Rylee day yesterday and have fun with the other two grands today.
Cindy- You are a good friend. Glad you were able to be there for her. Sorry about the flat tire. Yay for the scale.
Cathy- WTG AF, OP, walked, positive thoughts!

START BUILDING! BUT DON'T OVERWHELM YOURSELF...Brick by brick, step by step brings results!
Good morning all! I think my sinuses are reacting to the coming rain from Hurricane Sally and I had a nagging headache all day yesterday. I felt so unsettled yesterday on the way home from work and finally realized it was just the headache! I did get the laundry done but that was about it for the evening!
Amy - YAY for the UPS driver locating the keys! And you found your missing keys too! That's a banner day! I searched last night for a piece of paperwork about my retirement account but never did find it. I can locate the info somewhere else today but it just irked me that I couldn't find it! Have fun with the golf cart!
GG - you are going to do great with Jack and Addie today! These are memories they will treasure forever! Is there any word on if they will go back into the classrooms? I think all of our schools are back in person now. I'm not hearing about a huge increase of Covid cases so that is good.
Cindy - what a blessing you are to be able to get your friend so quickly! I sure hope she uses the experience to evaluate changes she needs to make. I know where she is for sure!
Cathy - that's really kind of your to cook for your neighbors.
Some of you may have seen the funny picture I posted on FB last night of a fountain like you would normally see with chocolate or champagne only it had biscuits and sausage gravy. I thought it was a hoot and even commented that to a country girl, this would be heavenly. I said if I had known something like this existed, I'd have had it at my wedding. The bizarre thing is that one person who "laughed" at that comment was my ex-husband Randy! He sent me a friend request a few months ago and frequently "laughs" at some comment I make. We've been divorced since '93 and I believe he's still married to the woman he left me for. So crazy!! I have the HOA meeting tonight but it should be over by 6:00. I think I've got all my ducks in a row for it! I hope you all have a terrific Tuesday! Murphy

Getting Through Hard Times: September 15
We are sturdy beings. But in many ways, we are fragile. We can accept change and loss, but this comes at our own pace and in our own way. And only we and God can determine the timing.
Hard times, stressful times, are not all there is to life, but they are part of life, growth, and moving forward.
What we do with hard times, or hard energy, is our choice.
We can use the energy of hard times to work out, and work through, our issues. We can use it to fine-tune our skills and our spirituality. Or we can go through these situations suffering, storing up bitterness, and refusing to grow or change.
Hard times can motivate and mold us to bring out our best. We can use these times to move forward and upward to higher levels of living, loving, and growth.ki
The choice is ours. Will we let ourselves feel? Will we take a spiritual approach, including gratitude, toward the event? Will we question life and our Higher Power by asking what we’re supposed to be learning and doing? Or will we use the incident to prove old, negative beliefs? Will we say, “Nothing good ever happens to me…. I’m just a victim…. People can’t be trusted…. Life isn’t worth living”?
We do not always require hard energy, or stress, to motivate us to grow and change. We do not have to create stress, seek it, or attract it. But if it’s there, we can learn to channel it into growth and use it for achieving what’s good in life.
God, let my hard times be healing times.

Hi All!
ACCOUNTABILITY CHOICES!
Fresh Start Monday! What is your accountability for the week? Better effort will create success.
Move More Accountability Did better on steps today so that is in the right direction. Keeping it up though not as well as I wish.
Sleep Accountability Early to bed and early to rise
Nutrition Accountability AF. Left overs and need to do better
Happiness Accountability Okay day.
Habit Accountability Going to (re) start the BOOST drink tomorrow And I am trying to start tomorrow!
Check In Daily Accountability HERE! This is helping even if I'm not being very accountable!
My friend came by with flowers. Story is she and friends went to a "private" club and she didn't feel she was fitting in and started drinking and never seemed to stop. There is a big charge on her credit card. She couldn't find her friends at the end of the evening. She doesn't remember much. She is very embarrassed and the usual beating up of herself. Forgive yourself, move on. And maybe don't go out with these friends, they aren't friends.
Was tired today but that is okay. My Cast is off! Bruising is gone as is swelling. Still achy...wear the brace during the day and if possible, at night. Don't lift anything more than 10 pounds, preferably five. Let's see if the cat is 19 pounds and I rest her on my brace, can I carry her about? Didn't ask.
Amy, so glad the keys have been found and what a way to have them returned. So glad the gremlin has decided you can stay so she is returning your keys. Maybe another round of steroids or a visit to the ortho doc. Enjoy the golf cart!
Murphy, I hope your sinuses and headache are better. Friend and I discuss changes she needs to make. I think part of it is just letting loose after working from home for so long. Not great friends though. I did see the FB post and I know people who would love a sausage and biscuit fountain! It is funny nice that your ex became a FB friend and laughs at posts. With time I think we all miss people from our past and think about reconnecting. I guess since you accepted the request you are comfortable with it.
GG, yay for positive with weeklies!! Success! Birthday cake is worth weeklies. It is wonderful you are so close to your grandkids. Sounds like Jack is encouraged working with you and does well one on one. Does he read to Rylee?
Cathy, did the tent come down? I'm sorry I must have missed the passing of your neighbor. Do you and your husband plan to get out this week or are you all set with supplies?
Amy, thanks for the TOTD...always enjoy them! Murphy, am learning from the Hazelden passages and appreciate them.
Hi Carole! Hi Jan!
Think I will make it an early night!
Hugs to all, Cindy

Tuesday: AF/OP/Scale at 181/no exercise...maybe today/healthy meals/feeling good
The garden is not producing like it was so will need to buy tomatoes and fruit and other fruit/veg when we shop next time. I think we will wait till tomorrow to go shopping since we are okay for today. Will start a grocery list to have ready before we go. We don't always find everything on the list but it does help.
One of the women that I used to meet with on Wednesdays is going to Starbucks again this Wednesday and told the group any are welcome to join her. One woman who went last time has said she will go, too. I told them to have fun. I will not be going. The number of people with covid-19 is going up and not down and I just can't see taking risks. My husband and I don't have children nearby that can help out if we get sick so plan to do my best to avoid covid-19. For some reason it doesn't make sense to me to go to Starbucks and sit outside but NOT to have gone to a friend's house and sit outside when cases were fewer.
My son is on an international business trip (gulp) and my DIL & granddaughters is in the path of Hurricane Sally so sent her an e-mail with the song Hurricane Sally and a link to a line dance done to the song for her and the girls to learn if they have services and are bored while under hurricane watch.
AMY: I would say the house has decided that you are staying and so has the land so the key-fairies returned the keys to the house. Hooray for having them again AND for having the golf cart. Does the cart have a roof? Is it something you can use year round or only in nice weather?
MURPHY: Sorry you have a headache...barometric pressure changes can cause headaches for me. Hope you have time while working to stand up and stretch from time to time.
GG: I am sure that Jack (and most children) do better when someone is beside them to help them focus. I just had this image of Sponge Bob, Dora the Explorer, Pippa Pig or other cartoon characters doing the teaching online...wonder if children would stay focused better? I remember in elementary school, before we left Des Moines, they had Spanish on TV and used Barbie and Ken as the teachers...talk about a blast to the past! If the student to be taught could request the animated character it wanted to see that day or for specific subjects....hmm...
CINDY: I can't imagine going out with friends and losing or being lost by them! YIKES! I am glad she wasn't kidnapped or worse! Also glad she was aware enough to give you a call. Perhaps rest the cat's weight on your GOOD arm and balance her there with the arm in the brace?
MOVE MORE ACCOUNTABILITY: 1 (this has always been trouble for me until I get started and have a week or more under my soles
SLEEP ACCOUNTABILITY: 3 (I am getting enough sleep most of the time though not regular to bed/awake hours)
NUTRITION ACCOUNTABILITY: 5
JOURNAL ACCOUNTABILITY: 5
HAPPINESS ACCOUNTABILITY: 4.5 (I am content...not laughing hilariously but happy enough)
HABIT ACCOUNTABILITY: 3 (could be better and could be worse)
CHECK IN DAILY ACCOUNTABILITY: 5
TIME MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTABILITY: 5 (in reference to getting books read and reviewed am doing well but if you were to ask me about housekeeping it would be a 5 for doing dishes and 0 for everything else but laundry)
