Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. A bit dark out yet, but for the day it will be windy, and high of 78. Praying for all those down south affected by Sally.
Robin, when the summer was raging, we had the looters and the violence, on the other side of town, centered around a gas station, and all the pictures the police took were of blacks. The peaceful protests were of a good mix of cultures. The suggestion of Mayo, and from Marsha of Froedtert are very great suggestions. I will keep them in the back of my mind, as I watch the next couple days, what they do for DH. If it does drag out or they send him home and I do not think he is all better, I will call the clinic and find out how to get him into Froedtert.
Gareth, we too have the haze from the fires. I swear my eyes are burning this morning from it. With everything going on, I missed the mention about the spaghetti lasagna, first of all, does it make a lot? So you would get a few meals out of it? Next, could you put the recipe up on here please?
Carol, thank you. What a nightmare!! I see by the scores that McCarthey's Cowboy's lost their game. I was hoping he would come out and win his first non Packer game. Let us know how it went at your Bible study. Of course we are all curious about how it will be set up, for social distancing. I am not a big fan of pumpkin either, some places really get carried away with it, like in coffee (omg! icky!!) and other things.
Marsha, your weekend sounded busy!!! I guess I am like your DH, I quit wearing cloth masks, as they are a bit on the heavy side, making it harder for me to breath, such as when I am walking Woodman's or stores like that. I am comfortable with the disposable ones. And after I heard you can reuse those for a few times, I am just sticking with those. Sounds like your DS is trying to make it easier for you and your DH for this weekend. I did not know his kind of job works weekend's. I know when my DB died, and I had a couple questions, shortly after, his financial advisor at ED Jones was closed on the weekend. As I mentioned to Robin, yes, if I do not see a good change in DH today or tomorrow, I will get a referral to Froedtert for him.
Anngie, OMG! Wouldn't that be horrible, that something was left in DH bladder!!! I really can not think about that, but with my DH, anything is possible!!!! And about the referral, yes I would be open to that, so we shall see what the next couple days bring. You said it perfectly!!! I agree, about wanting (or not wanting!!) to hear athlete's advice. That would be like asking a stranger off the street their opinion.
Pinky, wow, it sure does sound like it is crazy there!!! And good for you two to be getting your will together. You guys would be the type of couple that would really need one. So sorry for all the bad news in your state!!! How horrible. And that car accident! I did not read the story about it on Yahoo last night, as for some reason I hate seeing or hearing about a deer getting hit by a vehicle. (YES!!! But I am happy when DH downs a deer with either his bow and arrow, or gun) And if anyone here is a Debbie Downer, it would be me, with constantly bringing everyone down with my DH stories!!!
No call yet from DH, unlike yesterday morning, when he started around this time, his calls to come get him. It won't take me long to get ready to run up there, either to visit him or bring him home, if Doctor approves. If he stays in today, I am doing some things around here, then go up there.
No other news, and have nothing to read right now. That's ok, because I can't concentrate anyway.
Have a nice day everyone.

Karen, glad DH seems a bit better. I also saw that Sally was intensifying, but then I read it was slowing down. We want to know what they do when they get to Z. This is pretty early to be up to S in the storm names. But of course there is no such thing as climate change.
Other than the Jets, I don't know what ended up happening to the other games, although I do know that Tom Brady's team lost, and DH thought the Giants lost, wasn't sure. I was playing mah jongg last night.
I am hoping today will be a quiet day. I have to remember to vote in our village election later, they don't open until noon. There are no contested races for the trustee or mayor positions, but there is one for Village judge. We know one of the people running, he has been the interim judge, and been very involved for a long time, but someone who I don't know at all is challenging him.

Pinky - I'm so sorry about all the tragedies. Too many to list and too many to occur all at once.
Robin - I have a small face/head. hats are usually too big for me and it is hard to buy glasses. By making my own masks I can make them a little bit smaller so they actually fit. And dh is a big guy so I actually had to make the men's pattern bigger to fit him. And there is a therapeutic element to the mindlessness of sewing which I enjoy, plus a sense of accomplishment. I used to do a lot of "sewing for the home" before kids and I miss it a little bit. Now it is much cheaper to buy things than to make them but back then I could save money and have nicer things. I remember making a shower curtain, a comforter cover, a window seat cushion, some curtains when dh and I first bought the house. Of course dh was in sales then and always on the road so it was also something to keep me busy. I would always have a project for when he was gone.
Karen - if you watch Unorthodox like Robin suggested, please bear in mind that that is really the extreme end and in the U.S. you wouldn't find it outside of the NYC area. Orthodox in the rest of the country is mostly what she called "modern orthodox" where rules are followed but the community is more integrated into society as a whole. For example, you might find someone who doesn't work on the sabbath and keeps kosher, but otherwise lives their lives much the way you do. Lately it seems that Orthodox, Conservative, Reform has more to do with what goes on in the synagogue than how people live. DS is a new Financial Advisor and just got his office so he is open whenever clients want to see him. Remember what it was like to be in your 20's, just starting out, trying to make a name for yourself and working the long hours? That is him.
Our dinner with ds is off. Remember that we were trying to move it to Sunday. Apparently the roof is leaking in his office and the landlord won't get anyone in to fix it until the weekend. DS told them they have to be out by noon on Sunday because he has a client meeting, but noon on sunday means he won't be done working by 4:00. I'm disappointed but I feel we made an effort and I hope he recognizes that we also were willing to compromise to make this happen. He sounded very aggravated last night on the phone. I completely understand why.
But the good news is one of the dresses I sent to dd fits. It is the one from Nordstrom Rack on clearance. She said it's kind of a cheap dress but for what she needs it for - not a color she would choose and she knows she'll never wear it again - she thinks it will be just fine. So I think the trip to the Bridal shop is out but she will have to come home so we can get our dresses shortened. (I hope the woman who does my alterations is still working!)
The garden is moving toward it's end. I harvested my basil yesterday and put it in the dehydrator. It still wasn't done this morning so it's still going. A lot of it had started to go yellow - I should have done this mid season. I chopped a bunch of tomatoes to freeze to use instead of a can of diced tomatoes. More are on the plants. But it is obvious the garden is tired and ready to be done. I need to pick the last of the Oriental Eggplant but they are really a little small. I'll pick more orange tomatoes so they can ripen indoors and maybe more of the green ones will turn before frost. And I need to pick my beets. Starting to think about next year. I guess that's what gardeners do.

It actually got quite hot yesterday and felt rather humid to me at 86 degrees. Another day like that today, but it seems more overcast than it did yesterday I am guessing from the smoke. Then cold again---with a high of 64.
Karen---Hope your DH is much better today. I also have been thinking of the people affected by Sally.
Robin----Mah Jongg is interfering with your football time. All of the issues of the players---I would rather spend my time on something else.
Marsha--sorry about your dinner with DS not working out, but yes he should see that you had made the effort. Hope things will progress for the better----remember baby steps. Glad DD's dress worked out.
I was over to my DF's today for coffee---the one who lost her DM on Sunday. It really is a blessing of her passing but still very hard.
still listening to The Red Lotus, but it is going to go poof today without me finishing. I need to get back on the list so I can finish it.

Karen, glad to hear that DH is doing better. I wondered about meds yesterday maybe being the problem. The baked spaghetti makes 8 servings so there's plenty of leftovers. I froze part of it. Love to cook once and have plenty of leftovers. Some things are even better leftover. I never have understood people who don't like leftovers.
Marsha, sorry that it isn't working out getting together with your DS. You tried and sounds like he did too.
Pinky, I saw that about your Attorney General hitting what he says he thought was a deer. So sad with all that's going on around you. No need to apologize for feeling like a Debbie Downer.
I hope no one minds me always writing in larger print. Makes it easier for me. It's a beautiful day again. A little breezy but nice walking. 80's later. I have a haircut appt early afternoon. I'm looking forward to the cut but not going there with their lack of precautions. Hopefully she'll take me in the back room again remembering my feelings from last time about it.
I finally made a Drs appointment for next Monday. She's an ARNP so not actually a Dr. so we'll see how it goes. It's so hard trying to figure out who to go to. The Dr I had called to get an appt I was told had to decide if he wanted to take me on as a new patient. His office finally called back to say he'd accept me after almost two weeks after I'd already given up on hearing back from him and made the appt with the ARNP. Her office girl was a lot friendlier than his so I just have a better feeling about her. His acted like they were doing me a big favor even considering me.

Sorry to have posted late yesterday.
Karen, keep us posted!
Marsha, I think the conversation you and DH had with DS have, at the very least, given him some things to think about. I hope it continues. Great that DD has her dress! It worked out so good - but it could have been so bad! Right! It’s hard to find the perfect dress sometimes.
Pinky, OMG! how sad to read of all those terrible things happening in your area. Nice to spend time with your friend, I’m sure she needed that! Is the Red Lotus a trilogy? Who is the author?
Robin, what I’ve seen of the peaceful protests is a mix of people, most wearing masks, too. However, with the looting, vandalism and destruction, not the case. How are your public school districts doing so far financially? Have they been hit with the 20% reduction in state aid?
I knew this was going to happen sooner or later, but one of my hospice patients passed away - at the age of 104! He was so sharp and interesting to talk and listen to. I feel terrible that the last I was allowed to visit was mid-March.
I was able to pick up my new glasses yesterday only to find I can’t read with them. Distance is fine, but a little blurry to read. My script hasn’t changed much, I just wanted new frames. He said to try them for a week and come in on Monday. Truthfully, I don’t think he really believed me. So I’ll be going back.

I have been busy today. I went to the Bible study. There were only 7 of us there. We were in a big circle with several chairs between each of us. Only me and another woman my age kept our masks on the whole time. The others had them on, but took them off in the room. I think it may be okay. If I feel uncomfortable I will leave.
I went and renewed my car registration, voted in a special election for a state representative, and got a flu shot. I got the shot at Walgreens and had to wait for a while. A few people got tired of waiting and left, but I decided I was there so I stayed. I had my phone of course so I read. At least now it is out of the way.
Anngie, sorry about your hospice patient. Wow, 104! That is really amazing. Even if a person is very old or has been sick, it is still hard when they pass away.
Marsha, sorry about the dinner not working out. Great your DD found a dress. No less thing to worry about.

Anngie--The Red Lotus is not a trilogy that I know of and it was written by Chris Bohjalian. I lucked out---I was able to borrow it right back from the library in audiobook.
Gareth----good that you didn't wait for that Dr.---sounds like the new ARNP is much more accomodating. What does ARNP stand for---guess something something nurse practitioner.
Carol---Sound like a nice amount of people for a bible study.
Just got back from running for parts for DH. Wasn't in my plans for today but nice to go for a drive and get some listening time to my book.
