Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Chilly to the start of the day, with a cloudy sky. High in the upper 60's.
Pinky, DH thinking of doing things, and actually doing them is 2 different things, hahahaha!!! Did you get everything done yesterday, that you wanted to get done?
Marsha, I will say the same thing to you, about my DH, what he says he is going to do, and what he actually does are 2 different things. He was able to get some things done yesterday, but of course he peetered out. You know what they say about good intentions. I have to remember that, about salmon, as now my latest "in" thing for me to eat is salad, for lunch, thank you for the tip, would not have thought of that.
Gareth, yes, DH is doing so much more better, and I see you get it...."thinking of going hunting" is right. I know by next week most likely he will be able to get out there, but not right now. Right now I need to go with him into the woods to just set up his tent. You would not know off the top of your head the point count on that spaghetti casserole, would you? I have to go back and print it. How are your eyes doing?
Carol, about people not keeping masks on, what is turning out to be my pet peeve, is people with the mask on, but their nose uncovered. That is so stupid, I want to go up to them and say "well that is real effective isn't it?" But of course I don't. Thank, I was so happy to get him home, I don't know, this time really bothered me about having him there.
Robin, I have to apologize, I am truly sorry, when I read your post, I did not know what you were talking about, so I had to go back to my post. Night before last, I only got 4 hours sleep, and I am thinking my post was a tad off...I have no idea why I said such a stupid comment, about climate change!!! I am a person that does not know much about climate change, but I do know it is most likely the cause to all these awfully strong storms, and more than what is normal.
Well, for me, I overslept a bit, and DH was already up! Guess I needed that sleep, after the bad night before.
My lipase level went back down to in the normal range. Glad about that.
We got the desk moved to the living room, and it looks like it was made for that corner, so happy we thought of doing that, and DH is happy with the glider in his room. We had the cauliflower mashed with herbs and garlic, to go with the salisbury steak last night, and decided we could eat that again, instead of potatoes. We are slowly turning our eating around. So proud of DH, to be doing it with me.
Have a nice day everyone.

Hello all. Last night I made the spicy chicken taco recipe from the WW ap - finally - after dd recommended it a few weeks ago and we really liked it. I use flour tortillas instead of corn tortillas because we like them better but I will definitely make that again.
I picked a bunch of tomatoes yesterday so the green ones have a chance to try to ripen. Right now they are on the counter but most of them will end up chopped up and in the freezer. I also made matzo balls so that is done. I have to ask dh what he wants to do about dessert. Traditionally I make him apple pie for Rosh Hashana but with just the 2 of us I don't really want it in the house and he certainly doesn't need it, but if he wants it I'll make it for him.
Not much else to report. BBL

Karen, don't worry about it, I am never sure what people know, and until my DS explained it, I wasn't sure myself. Glad that the desk looks so good. Isn't that chair the one you special ordered for DH? I am sure he loves having it in his room.
Marsha, I am surprised you have so much energy to follow recipes when you get home from work, although I admit I used to find it relaxing, now I am just too mentally exhausted most days. I am always very proud of myself when I cook. I am sorry I ended up ordering the burgers from the diner. The last time I got them, I am sure they used a different brand, and they were much better. These, not so much, but DH still finished his, so to me that's not bad. If he doesn't like something, he won't even finish it. I just have to find more quick things for him, and low calorie things for me.
I did not sleep well last night at all, and DH wanted to be up earlier today because he had an 8:30 zoom meeting. He did not hear me go out with the dog, I was already eating, 1/2 hour later, when he came up to say that now he only had 20 minutes to eat breakfast. I am hoping today will be a quieter day so I can get some actual work done.

Robin - Since I keep kosher eating out or carry in isn't really a great option for me. I schedule "leftover nights" into the week. In fact, I plan a week's worth of dinners so I don't have to think about what to make - that is what I find the most stressful - and I do try to stick to faster recipes for weeknights. The taco recipe was easy. The hardest part was shredding the chicken! Right now I have a few things in the freezer that I should use and one of them - the butternut squash lasagna - will find it's way onto the table this week I think. My biggest issue is that I want to eat early so I don't snack because I think that after-work-before-dinner snack is where I gain my weight, but by the time I finish cooking it is usually 7pm.

Chilly start to the day here too Karen. 49º when I got up. 60's later. You'll have to put the recipe through the recipe builder for which plan you're doing and any revisions you might make like with the butter. I cut back. Next time I'll cut back further by using I can't believe it's not butter light. I'm on purple and use whole weight spaghetti so that cuts the points back too. Good that your lipase level went back down to normal whatever that is. I've never heard of it.
It was a quick trip to WM first thing. Like you Karen it irritates me seeing people with their mask below their nose. Why even bother wearing it then? It's like they're thumbing their nose at me! The man stocking in frozen food always has his below his nose. He was the only one today I saw doing it. Talking of masks does anybody wash their disposable masks? I do and they wash up beautifully even in the washing machine. I don't put them in the dryer though. Of all the masks I've tried I still like the disposable best. Easier to breathe and more comfortable on my face. If you double loop them over your ears it helps your glasses fogging up. I was disappointed to see that WM has removed the one way arrows in the aisles not that all that many really has paid any attention to it.
Marsha, I'll have to look up that spicy chicken taco recipe in the WW app. How spicy is it? We don't like a lot of spice.
Robin, I'm like you. The last thing I wanted to do was cook after work.
I started Little Whispers by K.L. Slater this morning. So far so good.
DH should be home shortly. Then we'll walk.

Gareth - the taco wasn't spicy at all. It calls for a jalapeno and I buy the chopped jalapeno in a can and I just added maybe a teaspoon, so I suppose maybe that is less than what it would have been if I actually bought and chopped the pepper. It also says what to add if you want it spicier. We topped it with avocado and chopped tomatoes (since they are sitting on my counter!). It says to top with shredded cabbage which we did but we thought next time just stick with lettuce as the cabbage didn't add much and now I have leftover cabbage to throw away. Also we like flour tortillas instead of corn but it didn't change the points any.
I agree that the disposable masks are lighter but the structure of them bothers me. They get up into my eyes. The ones I make are the smooth ones that go up over the nose but down under the eye sockets and I find them to be more comfortable. Today I have a disposable though because I forgot to bring one to work and we have the disposables here. That is what most people here are wearing. I throw my homemade ones in the laundry every day.

Hello everyone!
I just got back from doing all the pre-op stuff like bloodwork, chest X-ray and EKG. The surgeon’s scheduler, yesterday, said it would be great if I could get theses done today as my appointment with my general doctor, who OK’s me for surgery, would get the results. Not to bore you all with details, but when I got to the hospital there were no scripts to be found! It all worked out, but I honestly don’t know how the elderly ever manage. So many hoops to jump through.
I’m now curious as to what the opinions are on in-person voting. Are you going to vote in-person Nov. 3, do early voting, or mail-in? DH and I have decided to vote in-person Nov. 3. My rationale is (and this is life every week for me) if I can wait in line 20+ minutes at the grocery store, I can certainly wait in line to vote. What do you think?

Anngie, seeing as this is our first year of early voting, and there is a location right near our office, I was thinking that I would do that. They sent us a postcard with the hours, and they said you can vote at any of the early voting locations. If I don't do that, I will just go on Nov 3rd. There is never a crowd at our location though, I just figure I will get it over with. Glad you got that pre-op stuff done for your surgery. I really wish I knew how similar what you have is to what DH has, then I would suggest he try your kind of surgery. He is scared of having back surgery. Maybe if he knew it was minimally invasive he would have it.
Marsha, I wasn't thinking about things not being kosher, but probably worse from your perspective is that you don't know points. There are lots of vegetarian options, or at least sides you can make with your own chicken, or adding chicken to things. Although a lot of that gets repetitive, there are probably more places close to me, especially the one I pass on my 2 mile trip home, to make it a good option. Within a 2 mile radius of my house there are loads of places I can stop for pick up. If my DH liked tacos, I would make soft tacos with ground turkey or chicken and the packaged spice mix. That's not bad, but he doesn't like them. He did like, though, when I made chicken with a schwarma blend spice mix, put it in a pita with lettuce, tomato and onion.
Gareth, are you talking about those blue disposable masks? I never would have thought of washing those, but honestly, if I use them for a grand total of an hour a day, that's it, and I re-use them, so have not gone through all that many over the time, and they are now really easy to find around.

Anngie, I'll vote by mail like I've always done. We do it as soon as we get our ballots.
Robin, yes the blue disposable though I also have some in pink and lavender.

DH and I usually vote early. I voted Tuesday in a special called election for a state representative. The former one resigned to run for Congress. I was the only one there. I had to show my driver's license, put on a plastic glove, scan the license, confirm my name and address, show my license so they could see I'm really me, sign electronically. Then there was a scan sheet to put in the computer or whatever, actually pick a name, take the sheet out, and take it over to another machine which took the sheet. It didn't take long, but I thought if that is how it is going be done for the national election, it will take a long time. There is a voting place on the DH's college campus. We may try there because we think it may not be as crowded as the other 2 places close to us.
I had my 6 month check up with the dentist 5 months late today. They have been busy seeing the people who were scheduled for now plus finding room for the people who couldn't come when things were closed.
I also went to Walmart. I saw a couple of people with masks not covering their noses. What I find irritating is the employees getting the orders for pickup. They push those big racks or whatever around and don't seem to care there are other people around.
I was always the one to cook when my kids were still home. About the only time someone else cooked was if I had a migraine. I would always be worn out by Friday so one time someone asked what's for dinner, I said I'm tired, y'all decide and that's the reason we started going out on Friday nights. I have started writing out menus for the week. I would sort of plan in my head, but then I wouldn't have something I needed so I started writing it out.

We will vote early in person. We have absentee ballots ordered but I'm worried about the mail. For the fall election, one of my friends stood in line for 4 hours. I think I told you about that. Her voting location was dd's high school and she is a former marine and there is no way she would miss an election so she waited - I think by the time she voted it was almost midnight. We had early voted but I think our polling place was not that bad, but I think there will be a big "turnout" for this election, whether it's in person or by mail. I expect that the results that are announced on election night will not be the same as the final results which won't be ready for a few weeks. It will be a bit of a mess.
I don't understand these comments about choosing a voting place. We do not get to choose, it is based on where you live.

We don't have a choice where to vote either. It's decided by where you live. I don't care but there's no way I'd stand in line for four hours to vote or for anything else as far as that goes! That's why I vote by mail and do it early so I know it's there in time.

We used to be in precincts and could only vote in certain places. I don't know when it changed. There are polling places all over the county and you can vote anywhere. The place I voted yesterday is small and if was busy, I think the line would go outside. As I've mentioned, we are a small county, only 100,000 people. That may have something to do with it.
