I am into another TV series: AWAY on Netflix. It is about an internatonal crew traveling on the first journey to Mars. The captain of the ship is Hilary Swank. She is married to Josh Charles (Will Gardner from THE GOOD WIFE). I am enjoying it, but am a fan of space travel films. It is beautifully-filmed.
I have ROMEO AND JULIET to watch as well.
What are you watching lately?

The local paper had an article on upcoming fall TV. None have aired yet so this is only one reviewer's opinion, but here are the ones that caught my eye:
UTOPIA (Amazon Prime) Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl, Sharp Objects) returns to TV with this audacious 8-part conspiracy thriller she describes as The Goonies meets Marathon Man. Revolves around a group of comic book nerds who are obsessed with a graphic novel "Utopia". Things get serious when they unearth hidden meanings embedded in its pages predicting dire threats to humanity. John Cusack and Rainn Wilson are among the cast. Sept. 25
EMILY IN PARIS (NetFlix) Title character lands her dream job in Paris. Packed with dreamy Parisian scenery, offers escapist entertainment many viewers may crave while sheltering in place. Oct. 2
SOULMATES (AMC) Anthology series set 15 years in the future, the stories are pegged to a company Soul Connex that promises to hook up twosomes that are simply meant to be. What could go wrong? Written by Will Bridges (Stranger Things, Black Mirror). Oct. 5
THE UNDOING (HBO) Nicole Kidman and David E. Kelley (Big Little Lies) deliver another instantly addictive whodunit rooted in marriage, wealth, deceit and the blind spots that can develop in relationships over time. Oct. 25
FLESH AND BLOOD (PBS) 4 part Masterpiece miniseries. A late-life romance, family dysfunction and a juicy mystery. Oct. 4.
Still haven't watched Van Der Valk! Got to get to it.

One of my good friends loved SCHITT'S CREEK. I had trouble getting into it. It is a Canadian sitcom. Suddenly broke, the formerly filthy-rich Rose family is reduced to living in a ramshackle motel in a town they once bought as a joke: Schitt's Creek.
Season 5 of POLDARK is finally on Amazon Prime. It is pretty good.
Lani, Thanks for the heads up on those new shows. I will watch for them.

DH found a new series on Prime. New to us at least. Called Good Girls. I think there is another word in the title, but don't remember it. we watched the first episode of Season 1. It was just terrific. Set in 1968/9 at "News of the Week" magazine. It's based on a book which I don't remember the name of. Great, aren't I? Anyway, that is going to be great. Nora Ephron was one of the "girls" in Episode 1.
We just couldn't get into Schitt's Creek and let it go.
Another one, Luther, DH watched the first episode and wants to watch more. I haven't seen it, but we're usually in sync on mystery/thriller types. I'll have to watch Season 1 Episode 1 and then we'll take off.
I do like it that Prime changes things out.
My mystery book club watched In the Heat of the Night for this week's movie. It is a timely today as it was when it came out in the late 60's.
thanks for the thread, Gail.

What great ideas and suggestions today! I have started knitting Christmas presents so need some good TV to push me onward. We have not watched much lately. I am pooped from gardening and yard work. I've been raking acorns all week. We're canning one last batch of tomatoes tomorrow.
Gail: DD wanted me to start Away last night but it was too late for me when we all finally stopped our activities, maybe tonight. Our mutual friend recommended it to me. She has been watching it and loves it.
Iani: Thank you for that great list! We all need some distraction from the political and virus drama!
Wish I had something to offer, but thank you all for the great suggestions!

I'm in the minority here with SCHITT'S CREEK. I liked it. It is definitely off the beaten path, but I have a weird sense of humor and love the major actors in it.
Karen, there are two series that have GOOD GIRLS in the title on Amazon Prime. I think you mean GOOD GIRLS REVOLT. I'lll try it!
Thanks, Lani, for those suggestions. I will be looking for them. I appreciate your including the platforms.
Ann, I am taking a film class with Mary Jennings again. Thank goodness for virtual classes! This time it focuses on female directors.
I am saddened about the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She is one of my heroines. What a champion she was for women's rights.

Is C in that class, Gail? She was talking about female directors on the phone last week. I am meeting her for lunch next week.
A friend texted me last night saying: "You need to be watching the news right now!" What a loss. My youngest DD said RGB's death was announced in her evening study hall and she burst in to tears. We have all read books about her and watched films together. What an amazing force and an amazing role model.

I don't know if C is signed up yet, Ann. It would be great to see her in it. Say hello to her from me at any rate. She may be watching the series on female directors on TCM.
The tributes to RBG are inspiring and heartwarming...and sad. I was touched bt the Amazing Grace that sprang up spontaneously in front of the Supreme Court last night. Yes, what a woman/force/wife/lawyer/Supreme Court justice/role model, and on and on. RIP.

Thank you, Karen, for recommending GOOD GIRLS REVOLT on Amazon Prime. Very good and based on the non-fiction book of the same name. It is about women working at Newsweek in the late 50s who revolted against the misogyny existing in that environment. Playing Nora Ephron in the series is Grace Gummer, Meryl Streep's daughter. In this one you can really see the mother/daugher resemblance. They did not renew it for another season so there is only one, but I will watch the whole season for sure.

Last night we watched THE WHOLE TRUTH starring Rene Zellweger and Keanu Reeves recommended by someone here. Wow, it was great! Kept you guessing until the end.
Gail, Thanks for letting us know that it was GOOD GIRLS REVOLT. All I could find was GOOD GIRLS. I will give it a try. Thanks Karen, for the recommendation.
Tomorrow there is a series premiere on Fox FILTHY RICH starring Kim Cattrall that I have set up to tape. Plot: A Southern Gothic family drama in which wealth, power and religion intersect -- more correctly, collide -- with outrageously soapy results. Meet the Monreauxes, a mega-rich Southern family famed for creating a successful Christian television network. On the cusp of launching a digital retail arm of the company, the family's patriarch, Eugene, dies in a plane crash, leaving his wife, Margaret, to take charge of the family business. Not surprisingly, Eugene's apparent death greatly impacts the family, who are stunned to learn that Eugene fathered three illegitimate children, all of whom are written into his will. Now, Margaret must use her business savvy and Southern charm to control her newly legitimized heirs, whose very existence threatens the Monreaux family name and fortune.

We saw a great movie today. This was surprising as we didn't expect much out of it. The talent was phenomenal! HIGH STRUNG FREE DANCE. A young choreographer casts a contemporary dancer and an innovative pianist in New York's most anticipated new Broadway show. Sensational music/dance numbers rise above so-so romance. A must see movie for all dance fans.

How did you view HIGH STRUNG FREE DANCE, Ruth? Sounds good.
During my Shakespeare reading class this afternoon we talked about the immature love (beautiful as it was) between Romeo and Juliet (she was only 14!) and compared it to more mature love relationships in literature and film. We actually agreed that few compared with the real one RBG and her husband had. They did so much for each other over the often difficult years of their marriage.
Can you think of a mature romantic relationship in film that you would recommend? We were asked to come up with some.

Watched this movie last night, from my Netflix DVD membership. It was a spur of the moment pick but honestly it is a very good movie. Expect a lot of killing but honestly the character portraits were really good. the scenery is awesome which is always a plus for me. check this one out I think you will like it. It moves fast and Christian Bale is really really good in this one as is Rosumund Pike as the widow.

Embarking on a harrowing and perilous journey from Fort Berringer, N.M., to the grasslands of Montana, they soon encounter a young widow whose family was killed on the plains. The travelers must now band together to survive a punishing landscape that's crawling with hostile Comanches and vicious outliers.
