Welcome to our 2020 Alcohol Free All The Way Board!
If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post.

BUILD A WALL OF RESOLVE, BRICK BY BRICK NEW CHALLENGE September 6 through October 31
Accountability: experiencing consequences for performance or actions. Accountability is essential for an organization, for a society, and for a person.
In other words, with accountability, a person will assume ownership of their own action because they will face consequences. Accountability is what we’ll call it, but think of it as both incentive and insurance. Establishing accountability helps us to stay the course, even when our former ways tempt us. If a little accountability is good, and more is better, then let’s go all in on this challenge.
What should we be accountable for in this challenge? Pick one, all, or anything in between. Feel free to add your own accountability goal and let others join you.
ACCOUNTABILITY CHOICES!

We drove the golf cart to the clubhouse to walk, riding in the cart is half the fun! I've been looking for plastic canvas sheets (for stitching) online and wasn't happy with the prices I found, so I decided to go look at Hobby Lobby. The closest Hobby Lobby is in Hiram, which is the opposite direction of where I usually shop. They only had 4 sheets on the shelf. I thought about asking someone to check in the back, but they all seemed really busy putting out stock, and I overheard a couple of them saying they had missed their breaks. All the employees had masks on, but several of the customers did not, including entire families shopping together. Anyhow it was fun looking at all the fall and Christmas merchandise. I went on to Walmart and found more plastic canvas there. They had quite a bit, but it was a different brand than I am used to so I want to try it first. Also wandered around Kirklands (I am looking for a ladder/ shelf to display pumpkins and Christmas stuff) and Target. Also went to Publix. DS came for dinner and spent the night. We played Winky Dink, the team of DS & I lost, but it was close. Sorry to hear about Ruth Bader Ginsburg passing.
Murphy- Hope oversleeping didn't mess up your day too much. It would be great if your friend buys the condo.
Jan- Glad you got done what you wanted to at the cabin. Yay for no alcohol!
GG- Glad you had a great day with the grands- have fun today! The ER doctor didn't really have a diagnosis, the paperwork says "arthralgia". He didn't do a lot of testing either, said he would leave that up to the rheumatologist.
Cindy- Glad you had a good discussion with DS. It is interesting how we all see things differently. I haven't really noticed any bad side effects from the steroids, other than very rosy cheeks. The ER doctor recommended The Longevity Paradox book by Steven R Gundry, MD. I bought it from Amazon, but haven't started reading it yet. I have heard of Dr. Perricone, but don't much about the diet, thanks for the link. I do like salmon, it's the sugar that I would have trouble giving up, even though I know it's terrible for me.
Cathy- WTG AF/OP/exercise/healthy choices!

Young man, the secret of my success is that at an early age I discovered I was not God. —Oliver Wendell Holmes
Sometimes, in our families, we try to get parents or brothers or sisters to treat us the way we want them to, to do things we want them to. When they're upset or angry with us, we try to get them to stop, rather than allow them to be angry.
But our feelings are ours alone, and we are responsible only for how we feel. Those around us are not the cause of our feelings. We are.
This knowledge is a big responsibility, because we know we cannot blame others for our bad moods. But it is a fact. And this fact is also a wonderful freedom for us, for it means that we also have the power to make ourselves happy, no matter what goes on around us.
How can I make myself happy today?

Good morning all! Slept in this morning even though I had crazy wild dreams. I've got laundry going and I'm cleaned up. I'm taking Callie to the vet for her Pawdicure in an hour. Then I plan to do some sorting and cleaning in the kitchen and the living room closet. It's kind of become this black hole where I throw stuff!! LOL. I think I also want to go to Office Depot to look at computers for the HOA.
Amy - you'll be zipping all over in the golf cart! LOL. Glad you found some of the plastic canvas and I hope the brand from Walmart works out ok.
Cindy - It is interesting how two people can remember events in totally different ways. I'm glad that you and DS can talk through things and respect each other's point of view. Maybe we'll get a zoom call organized for next weekend.
GG - It's still in the upper 70s here so I can't say brrr yet! LOL. But at least it's not the 90's! Have fun with the family today. I knew you would get more comfortable with the virtual learning. Yet another thing you can add to your resume!!
Jan - I'm so glad yo checked in. Totally understand not checking in. Glad you are back home safe and sound. I'm sure the cats missed you!!
Cathy - love those meals of "bits and dabs" to clean out leftovers! Hope the reviews get written quickly!
I got in my order of candles and I'm loving having one burning most of the time. Just makes me feel cozy! Need to change the sheets to the dryer now. I'll check back in later! Have a wonderful morning! Murphy

What will you be accountable for today? FRESH START MONDAY! MOVE MORE ACCOUNTABILITY Need to take an intentional walk, slug yesterday, 2 AP SLEEP ACCOUNTABILITY went to bed early, over 9 hours NUTRITION ACCOUNTABILITY Yesterday Carb loads and sweets, AF JOURNAL ACCOUNTABILITY Journaled Today will track all foods HAPPINESS ACCOUNTABILITY Feeling better, adjusting to "home" good to see cats and DH HABIT ACCOUNTABILITY Need to work on water CHECK IN DAILY ACCOUNTABILITY I'm here and it helps TIME MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTABILITY Make my list and get it done! BUILD YOUR WALL OF RESOLVE CHALLENGE September 6 - October 31 September 6 start weight: 199 September 13: 199 September 20: September 27: Good morning friends. Feeling a bit human again after the transition to home. Was chilly overnight and have some comfort food meals planned, tonight meatloaf and mashed. Will work my points the rest of the day to fit it in. I did make a pot of turkey chili and that helps keep me full for low points. Could not get moving yesterday, will do better today. I need to get to the grocery, start the laundry, clean multiple cat boxes Will get it all started after some hot coffee and a hot shower! The scale doesn't seem to budge one way or the other, guess I should be happy with that. When I don't drink I think I just replace those calories with carbs or sugars. That will be on my to do this week, limit breads and sugars. Hope you all have a nice weekend planned or can just have some time to relax. take care all. Jan Amy Love that you are able to see DS and have game nights. I will have to look up Winky Dink, is it a card game? Glad you found your canvas, I thought of you one day at the thrift store as they had a whole pile of canvas there for sale. What brand do you like? Glad you are enjoying the golf cart, sounds like a worth while purchase. I too am very sad about the passing of RBG, I know she really wanted to make it until the election was over. Just more turmoil ahead. Murphy Hope Callie enjoys her Pawdicure, I need one too Have fun at Office Depot, always fun to shop with someone else's money!! Cathy Glad it seems your internet is back up and running. Not sure how my cousin will stay warm, there are 2 small space heaters. I guess if you just bring winter clothes, which I don't have up there so I'm never prepared for the cold mornings!! that scale will budge this week!! GG Sounds like you have found the routine with the kids. Enjoy the birthday party. Does DD hope to have another baby? Time for me to get back to serious tracking and meal planning!! Cindy Glad you can talk to DS. Would he move for a job offer? Does he feel he needs to stay with you? If that's too nosy, just say so. I feel this week my meal planning will have to revolve around all the odds and ends in the freezer and pantry. I brought home things from the cabin and there's not much room for anything anywhere. Will just get some fruit and fresh veggies at the store or Farmer's Market today. Hi Carole Hope you had fun in Florida. Were you on the Atlantic side? Hope not near the storm on the gulf. Off to get busy, will check in later.

Back home. Callie did so good but she's tired now! LOL. I came in and changed 3 smoke detector batteries. I almost called someone to let them know I was going to be up on a ladder but decided that having my phone in my back pocket was good enough precaution. Got the kitchen cleaned up and now I'm just relaxing for a few minutes before I go to Office Depot.

How can I make myself happy today? Just got home from my errands, I'm happy because I came home to eat my pre planned chili and not get distracted by all the goodies at the grocery! Then I took my coupons to Bath and Body and bought some fun things, some Christmas gifts, stocking stuffers and my receipt said I saved $51!! Which means their things are way too pricey and I wouldn't shop there without the coupons Murphy, I even bought a 3 wick candle for under $11, thought of you, not sure if I'll keep it or gift it! Looks like theres a big event over at the park by the picnic and volleyball area. Probably a college student get together or party as they frown on them having the big gatherings at the U. Looks like I'll avoid walking over there or wait til later this afternoon. have great rest of your day all. Jan

Hi All,
ACCOUNTABILITY CHOICES!
Fresh Start Monday! What is your accountability for the week? Better effort will create success.
Move More Accountability Gotta keep on trying Gotta figure out why I'm not motivated
Sleep Accountability okay and returned to bed after watching a bit of news and feeding the cat.
Nutrition Accountability AF. Made "green spaghetti with meatballs"...leftovers for days!!
Happiness Accountability Okay day.
Habit Accountability I think my only habit is waking up every day. Working on it!
Check In Daily Accountability HERE! This is helping even if I'm not being very accountable!
Hi Everyone!
Realized I have my cardiologist appointment on Tuesday...postponed it when it could just be a telemedicine call...no purpose...but now patients can come in to the office...will keep me on track for the next few days!
Amy, I was looking at the ladder/shelf item and I think Wayfair had a nice one...but I browse too much!! Glad the golf cart is working out so well. Will have to check out the book...hope springs eternal that I will find some discipline in food.
Murphy, my candles arrived also! Haven't lit one yet but thinking tomorrow will be good. Glad there was no mishap with the ladder. Did you have good luck at Office Depot?
GG, happy birthday to Rylee and from FB, to your SIL as well!
Jan, sounds like you had a wonderful back at home and routine day! I don't think DS would move unless it is an incredible job. He has spent more time in TX than any other area of the country and has really established himself with friends (who are more like family), something that he didn't have as he grew up since DH kept moving us for jobs. Part of our discussion the other night was just that.
Cathy, hope the review writing went well and your meal worked out well!
Hi Carole!
Got up, fed the cat, took some Tylenol and then went back to bed....then did a repeat of that this afternoon. In between I did sort some clothing and have a big pile for DS to go through. He did other stuff that needed doing and I appreciate his work.
As you all have said, it is funny how we each remember different events. When talking to my brothers we have different memories of our childhood. I choose not to "discuss" with my middle brother, just listen. I guess it is how it impacts you.
"Hating" on sports but decided to watch Celtics tonight, if I can stay awake. We shall see.
Hugs to all, Cindy

SATURDAY: AF/OP/40 minutes exercise
We will not have been to the store for two weeks by the time we go again. Amazing how what one has in the house impacts what one eats/drinks. The scale is not showing great movement without any wine and with counting points instead of following the Core program. Ah well...will keep plodding on as I assume I must be on a plateau.
I am going to use the white beans for lunch...will it be a hummus or other spread or as they are with tomato sauce...will decide in a couple of hours.
AMY: You did a LOT of shopping! Did you feel nervous at all? Good luck finding a solution for the pain you are experiencing.
MURPHY: Hope you get the black hole closet sorted through and find a computer for the HOA job.
JAN: It is interesting to hear your insight regarding wine. I find that when I don't have wine/alcohol I eat more balanced meals and when I have wine I try to save points to spend on wine then top up after the wine with carbs to absorb the wine. Good luck cutting back on sugar and carbs - I wonder if that will make not having them make not having alcohol later easier to do. I don't think I have ever seen a three wick candle...do you light one at a time or all three? Hmm...
CINDY: The soup was delicious. I hope your appointment with the cardiologist goes well. I also hope your son finds a great job nearby...soon!
