3. Reduce dairy The human digestive system isnβt optimized for cowβs milk, so why are we consuming it? Calcium is the usual answer, but you can, and should, get your calcium from other sources. A cup of cooked kale, for example, gives you as much calcium as a cup of milk, and it may actually be easier for your body to absorb the calcium found in kale. Plus, plants are free of all the fat and sugar found in milk.
Are you able to drink milk, or have you become intolerable of it? I have heard that as we get older we sometimes get digestive issues with it. Have you drank or used plant based milks such as almond milk? If so, do you like them?

I follow the GHGs. In order to get in three dairy servings, I use 1 cup of skim milk and 1/2 cup of plain nonfat Greek yogurt in my lunchtime smoothie (and aim at an ounce and a half of nonfat or RF cheese during the remainder of the day). But I haven't drunk milk since my 20s or possibly early 30s (who remembers that far back...). Since I don't drink it, I don't see any reason to buy plant-based "milk"-type drinks...

I am fine with milk although my son and husband are intolerant...not sure about my daughter
I have heard that as we get older we sometimes get digestive issues with it. So far - no problems that I am aware of
Have you drank or used plant based milks such as almond milk?
When doing the Veganuary challenge I stay away from dairy milk and did have or made my own plant milks. I liked the almond and soy best but did make garbanzo (iffy), soy (okay but a lot of work), rice (not much nutritional value) and oat (again...not fortified so wondered why I would do it again.
If so, do you like them?
I like some better than others Main reason I am not buying them is that they are more expensive than cow milk and by buying cow milk I help sustain the dairy industry in Lebanon (though I tend to feel sorry for the cows)
As for Kale...I have never seen it in Lebanon...or don't remember seeing them. I looked up "equivalent to" and found collard greens but again, have not seen them in Lebanon.

I don't drink milk very much as a beverage anymore. I grew up drinking milk (home "grown" - from our cow - until I was in about 3rd grade) and continued through college years, but then less and less. During the years I worked at school, grabbing one of the little cartons of milk was a quick and easy thing to do if I was hungry. I don't have any digestive issues.
I have tried almond milk in smoothies...but I don't make smoothies very frequently. The plant milk seems fine in that application.

I don't have any problems with digestive issues and milk, but both my daughters do. I have used almond milk, not so much for drinking straight but I use it in things. It keeps a lot longer than cows milk. I go back and forth with milk. I do like to have a glass with breakfast but I don't always drink it up fast enough and it spoils. The only plant milk I've used is almond milk. I haven't tried any of the others.

I don't have any problem with milk. In fact, I find it soothing to drink about 4 oz of skim milk with my meds. It seems to coat my stomach, as some of the meds do upset my stomach. I also keep yogurt on hand, sometimes I cook with the fat-free greek one. I also use it as a base for salad dressings or dips on occasion. DD uses it quite often for dressings, etc, as she is very allergic to eggs & so many of the store bought dressing & mayo have eggs in them. The only plant based milk that I have ever bought is almond milk. In fact, I just had it on my cereal this morning. I don't drink it, I just use it for cereal.
My DIL makes a salad with chopped kale. She serves it with some kind of homemade, warm dressing. That's the only way that I have ever liked kale. When I buy it, it usually gets thrown out.

Wow, I seem to be in the minority here. I drink a glass of milk quite often with dinner. I buy (what is called here) skim rich. It is fat free but not as watery as skim milk. I also buy many of the plant based ones. Oat milk, almond milk, soy milk. I usually mix them half/half with my regular milk if I am just drinking them. Or use them in place of milk in maybe pancakes or smoothies.
My sister says she has a dairy intolerance, but I think she just doesn't want to drink milk anymore as she still eats ice cream with no ill effects.
