We have just talked to the doctor, and the referral is being made to hospice. hb listened to the doctor's explanation and said, "Fine. Whatever you think." His insulin is going to remain at half the previous level.
For right now, talking with hospice will be the next step. I'm trying not to get too far ahead of myself, sometimes easier said than done!
I have several baskets of fall flowers than I put out last week. While browns, yellows and oranges and hues in between are not my favorite colors, they're seasonally appropriate and add a nice touch as it gets darker earlier. I especially like the fact that they don't need watering! I was wandering through either Michaels or Joanns a few years ago when the display or class sample baskets jumped into my cart at the end of the season.
This morning the sun hit an aspen branch that is turning gold ahead the rest of the aspen tree.
Yesterday was windy, but it's supposed to be windier this afternoon. Windy days used to make school days more difficult for teachers because the students became edgier and somewhat hyper.
Appreciating the changing colors of the season is about as crafty as I'm going to be today!

Hello Crafters Sue - I'm glad the doctor is referring you to hospice and I hope they can help you lots of things regarding your DH. I'm sorry you have to deal with this and will keep you in my thoughts. It's nice that you are finding some things to do that you enjoy like the decorating. I love those golden trees in the fall, how nice that you have a view of them to enjoy. Ginny - Sorry to hear you didn't sleep well, maybe tonight will be better. I hope you don't have any reaction to the shot too. My other machine is a Brother too - PQ1500SL. It only has one stitch-straight. It's supposed to be a "work horse" machine and gets good reviews for that - and has a really fast speed. My plan was to use it for machine quilting and save my other machine for piecing. I just need to make the jump over to it and try it out. I still might have to use my other machine for more detailed quilting work, but a lot of this straight line quilting could be done on the 1500. Ruth - Hope you are getting to work on the cowls this weekend. I liked the red and blue table runner too. I also liked that method for making star points - some people call it stitch and flip. Using that method you don't have to make Half Square Triangles which then need to be trimmed, and can get out of shape. Stars are so pretty in a quilt, so I'm always looking for the easiest way to make them. Since you mentioned picking fabric colors that go together, if you have time you might enjoy watching some of the weekly Fabric Cafe videos. These are the 3 Yard Fabric patterns and she will show you a quilt done in the pattern and then show some alternative fabrics you can use (of course they are for sale in her store). I like seeing the different fabric combinations she comes up with and I've bought several kits from this store and they were nice material. I also have a bunch of the patterns. Here are a few links: www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxoJqJRfg0Q - This week's video with fall/holiday fabrics www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgxQ7kgkYps - Florals www.youtube.com/channel/UCqAzTznCMKre69qu3TVCkKg/videos - A list of all the videos www.fabriccafe.com/default.asp - The store website I started work on the embroidery pieces for the FaLaLa sew along last night. I really love to do embroidery and I have a vision in my mind how it will look. Unfortunately, that vision never seems to translate into what my piece looks like. The pattern calls for 3 strands of floss and that is so hard to thread through the needle. I'm going to thread several needles today since I'd like to get these finished. Fortunately they are small pieces and I'll just accept that they come out however they come out Take care everyone.

CJ- thanks for giving us all those links from fabric cafe!! I liked the stepping stones quilt and the fabrics they used....so pretty. What is really neat is that they are all lap quilts, but sold in modules that can be bought in multiples to accommodate twin/queen or king sizes. Really neat- nothing too difficult and yet great variations in fabrics, patterns and styles. For someone looking to see how to match fabrics, she provides so many different coordinating fabrics. For someone who is unsure how to match fabrics, its a great place to start. I admit I did not watch all of the videos but was happily surprised with what a i saw.Indeed excellent viewing for a rainy day or a day when I am looking for some inspiration. glad you are getting a head start on the Falala sew along...that is a great project for you, combining embroidery with quilting. I hear ya, its such a challenge to thread 3 strands of DMC, i just finished those embroidery pillows and faced the same challenge. I am sure the embroidery will come out just fine. Don’t be too hard on yourself. I LOVE that you can have both of your brothers set up and ready to use. That is what I have heard about Brothers, they are work horses that will last a long time. Awesome that both can be used, so that you can have one set up with the weight thread you want to use for piecing, the other for quilting ( and the feed dogs lowered). Sounds like you are going to be doing a lot of quilting in the future!
Sue, Its got to be a relief that you have gotten authorization for Dh to have hospice care. A relief but also a sense of sadness that it was possible to make this decision. My prayers are with you as you embrace this next challenging phase of care for your Dh. I hope that hospice can provide the care you are looking for and can keep him comfortable. The emotional support and palliative care aspect of hospice is what they are known for- and most hospices workers perform their duties with grace and professionalism. I pray that you are blessed by their services and that your daily routines with Dh become a bit easier with their support. Like you, I have my favorite colors for decorating....and when I put out spring decor I do so because its seasonal and nice for a change- but certainly spring flowers (which are so pretty) are not my favorite. I much prefer fall colors.....enjoy your fall decor, its only temporary and how nice that we can redecorate so quickly and easily. I love how fall colors just seem to roll into the trees....aspens are so very pretty. Love the way the leaves flutter....what colors do your aspens turn- are they more orange, red or yellow? The aspens around here seem to be more yellow in color.
Got up early this am.....got that laundry room hallway painted and then went to visit with Dd at her home. She has been so good and kept coming here to visit with me during the height of the covid outbreak. (Which unfortunately seems to be on the upswing again). Dd and I went into Walmart and Lowes for a few items....not a big trip at all. It was good to spend the day with her and have a cup of tea at her home. I got some crocheting done - we were just sitting and chatting. A nice visit. Mid day I did not feel all that well- felt the effects of the vaccine....but right now i feel pretty well. No complaints and if a few hours of feeling a little bit achy and tired prevents shingles, then it was all worth it

Sue I second all that Ginny said. She covered it all and in her usual way did it wonderfully.
CJ,thank you for those links. I'll sure be keeping them in my files so that I can go to them often and learn some things I would love to learn. It's always great to see in the crochet groups how all the colors that you would think don't work really do work and are beautiful together. I can't wait to go to those sites so will probably make this short so that I can do that.
Ginny, you are so fortunate that your children are able to live near and enjoy being with Mom.They, of course, are fortunate to to have such a great mom. I'm glad you're time of not feeling well was short and I hope that's the last of it I may have to talk to our doctor about that. We both have had chicken pox and all the childhood diseases that they have immunizations for now.
I'm still working on the second cowl. I keep taking time out to do other things so it keeps getting set aside. It was very cool today so I made a pot of chili and one of split pea soup. I usually use ham but don't have ham so I put in two breakfast sausage patties that were leftover. I did have everything needed for the chili. Of course now it probably will get warmer but according to the weather forecast I saw yesterday it will be cool all this week. I did see a pattern for a c2c scrubby (of course there is no real pattern for that, just directions on how to do c2c) and thought it was a good idea for that yarn since it's so hard to see the stitches in it with any other pattern.I was right I made one and it was easy and will be good for my pans.I think I'll make some of these for gifts also. DH bought me yarn today. I mentioned that they had an excellent sale on the walmart site which made the yarn about 1/3 it's usual cost so he went there and bought it for me.I'll tell him it will be my birthday present

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - I'm happy for you too that your children and grandchildren are close and you can spend time with them. Good job on finishing the painting too. Ruth - Your chili sounds good, I'm sure you and your DH enjoyed it. That is so nice that your DH bought some yarn as a gift for you Those videos I linked for you can be a bit long, so I usually fast forward through them just to see the quilts and the fabrics and then skip over when she is talking. Makes it go quicker. I did some machine quilting on my newer machine today. It took me about 30 minutes to get the tension right before I could start. I used the walking foot and just did some straight line quilting. I'm feeling very conflicted about the machine quilting. I don't really enjoy it and it's taking away some of my pleasure with quilting. Sandwiching the quilt is a pain, and then figuring out how to quilt each piece and then not really liking the way the quilt looks after it's done is kind of depressing. I have one other piece ready for machine quilting and I'm going to use my old machine for it and then see if that makes any difference for me. But I feel like it might be that I'm just not meant to be a machine quilter. Maybe the thing I'm supposed to do is just make quilt tops. I don't know. Sorry to be a downer It's not important in the big scheme of life Take care everyone!

CJ, that's what I usually do on videos too is fast forward thru to the parts I want to see then maybe go back and watch the rest. I agree with you on the machine quilting. You did a great job on the ones you posted for us to see but if you don't enjoy it and do enjoy just making the tops then I think you should stick to that. Life is too short to do things we don't enjoy when it comes to our hobbies.Anyway, thank you for those links. I've bookmarked them so that I can refer to them and watch videos on the ones I think I might attempt.
Well dh and I put in the water heater today and it was so quiet after it was installed and supposed to be running that we thought it was defective. But it isn't and I'm sending prayers of thanks that it went at least fairly well.
We're having a cold day today. When we were outside taking out the old water heater and bringing in the new it was only 46 degrees. Sure didn't feel that cold though.
Because of installing the water heater I haven't worked on my crocheting yet.
Ginny, I forgot to say congratulations on getting the hallway painted. On Tues I'm going to do some painting on the outside framework around our patio door (there isn't a patio, just the door). I put primer on it every year and new paint and by spring it's all peeling off.I do scrape it all first but that side of the house is the part that gets the blasting of wind and therefore snow and rain when it does rain.

Good evening!!! CJ- have you ever considered tying some quilts?? Its a fair amount of work also, but also creates a nice homey touch and it will eliminate some of the frustration you are experience in with machine quilting. I TOTALLY agree, that make the quilt sandwich stage is frustrating, especially because I do not have a stretcher . (All reasons why I used a long armer for my large BOM- I was terrified to ruin it). I have also used spray adhesive- just a light coat- to help getting things how I want it before quilting. You put a lot of pride and effort into your beautiful quilt tops- and its just a part of the process that you do not like. My online quilting guru is not a fan of that part of quilting either. You are not alone for sure, and then there is the binding (another labor of love). So perhaps for your largest or the quilt tops that you really love, sending them out to be long armed will be a good idea. Think MSQ will even put a binding on (of course for a fee). Then to go back a bit in thought, didn’t you want to hand quilt? Does that eliminate some of your frustration? This is one of the reasons I love the random stipple- it does not have to be in or near a seam. It just squiggles wherever...and I have, after a LOT of practice, gotten a system that works for me. Some individuals don’t like that however. No you are not being a downer, you are just being honest and trying to find a solution to a problem.
Ruth, I would think that breakfast sausage would work really well in split pea soup. Dh loved split pea soup.....I am a navy bean soup fan (so I rarely made that because he loved pea soup so much). The pea soup and chili will be wonderful when your temperatures become more fall like!! Wow- your Dh is quite something, finding a great sale for you and ordering yarn. Think you will keep him after all these years? Ha ha ha.

Sorry- Ds came up to chat.....and i have not really had much of a chance to see him in a few days.
Ruth, glad to learn that you got the hot water tank installed and that its so nice and quiet. Its been a few weeks and I bet that it will feel like a luxury having hot water at the tap once again Hats off to you and Dh on that installation and team work. Yes some areas of a house seem to need constant updating- or weatherizing. Hope you can get your painting done so its nice and tidy to get through the winter. You will get back to work on those cowls soon enough....
Starting cutting for the panel quilt. Directions lack detail, but I think I can figure it out. Have a good evening all Ginny

well I spoke too soon. We do have a leak but it's not in any of the connections we made. It's from the factory installed flange type thing that the pipes are through. Hopefully when the gasket swells it will stop the leak.
I always thought that if I made quilts I would tie them. My ddil's aunt is a quilter and I saw a baby blanket she made for one of my grandaughters that was tied and it was really nice that way.She also backed it with Minky so it was nice and soft on that side.
