Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself âEnough is enough and Iâm getting in shape!â On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.

Fred starts jury duty today but doesnât report until noon. They said they were staggering times of jurists arriving but still there will be 100 in Fredâs group so am wondering if thereâs a lot of cases as that seems a lot for just one group. So he told his golfing buddies he probably wonât be golfing until Saturday as they say jury duty from M-F or one case. I think when they see he has trouble hearing theyâll dismiss him. Itâs not bad enough to require a hearing aid but if heâs too far away he doesnât hear you.
I guess his sister must have been given a game plan from Mayo on the congestive heart failure as she e-mailed yesterday that she and her husband want to plan another getaway end of April beginning of May for all of us. I told Fred if he wants to go Iâm fine with it but donât count me in as after the last time I refuse to spend any amount of time with them. I had said at that time I did not want to go but he guilted me into it by saying if I wouldnât go then he wouldnât go without me but this time when he said that I said okay but thatâs your decision as I really am fine with you going without me. But what I find interesting is he feels I should be the one to say we wonât be joining them and I told him sorry but theyâre your sisters not mine and that e-mail comes from you not me and if you donât reply again thatâs on you, not me.

Good morning friends.
Sandy I agree you need to do whatâs good for Sandy. I feel bad for Fred because he has a sick sister. I know how that feels.
We had a nice walk this morning. Lots of driveways and ditches have water standing including ours. I have no idea what that storm was last evening but it was a doozy and dumped lots of rain and some wind.
Karen C last evening I watched the documentary âLongevityâ about the blue zones so I thought of you. I found it very interesting. Do you still eat lots of nice cream? Weâve backed off a bit and now have chia pudding with fruit from time to time.
Vitamix users, do you know thereâs a tool that scrapes under the blade to get the last bit? Maybe you already have one. I want one.
DD was so excited the Schittâs Creek got 7 of 8 Emmy awards in comedy. She texted me the news and excitement. Weâd watched the first season so I guess weâd better watch more.

Greetings:
Sharon, we have backed off nice cream. However, I AM going to put some "blobs" of pumpkin in the freezer and then give pumpkin nice cream a try. Just like I'll try for something at Christmas. I'm thinking of mint flavoring or crushing a peppermint stick or two unless I come up with something else. But now I'm putting a chunk of frozen banana in the kale shake. I've been using the single use container which should be enough. I overfilled it yesterday and had a time getting it all blended in. Just trying different fruits. I'm mulling grapes. I like frozen grapes to eat, but I've never put them in anything. I still probably won't. That isn't appealing.
Pat, we do try and remember to wish all a happy birthday. If you're so inclined, please share the month and day of your birthday so we can add it to our respective lists and wish you a "happy birthday". If you're so inclined.
Sandy, one of the things I really liked about Tucson was that we "older" folk didn't have to serve on juries. Here in Colorado if you are breathing you're jury material. Both Bill and I have been called to different court houses. Mine was close. He had to drive to the tip of the county, miles north.
I'm not walking today. At least not yet. I opened the doors and the smoke came flooding in. Had to shut the doors. the sky is blue up there on the other side of the smoke. I can see smoke drifting in the sky.
Sharon, we watched a bit of the Emmy Awards because I was curious how it all would work. Lots of expenditure with the set up. The few we saw, Normal People, and I don't even remember the others, we've never heard of. I didn't see the Creek get awards. I don't get that show at all. But my DDIL likes the Bachelor shows, which I don't get either.
I got an email that the 2-pt WW bars are on sale. Or, at least two boxes are on sale. The rest are full price, but shipping is free with a minimum order. I do like a bite of something with my afternoon tea. I may order some.
Sandy, Fred is such a teddy bear. He doesn't want to disappoint anyone, but, yes, it's his family. Frankly I think that those kind of trips with just the family members have value. My sister and I don't go anywhere, but it's just the past few years we're communicating better so it's a monumental change. However, our cousins frequently go off and leave their spouses for a "nuclear familY" reconnection event. It works for everyone. I don't know any of the details but in Christmas notes there will be a few lines about where they went.

Good morning!
I'm headed to my meeting at church in a few minutes to plan the box lunch picnic for our Seniors next month. After that, I need to stop by Kroger for a few things.
The weather here is picture perfect for the last day of Summer.
I hope everyone has a really nice day.

Lovely smoky morning although not nearly as bad as Karen C. Need 700 more steps to finish my walk but seem pooped this morning so resting a minute in garage. Do have feeders up before walk.
Today thinking of cleaning floor mats in car, vacuuming the car. Perhaps cutting 3-4 peony bushes but that is not a promise. Got to find some energy or won't accomplish much of anything. Thankfully we are to have a nice weather week, but winter will be here before I am ready.
Crickets chirping, birds singing, light breeze and Boo rolling around on concrete. For some reason he loves that.
Got to finish walk then see what transpires. Have a mask to fix for sister as she bought one with ties but now wants elastic instead. Will see how this goes.

Good morning. Today is a perfect fall day. It was in the high 50's when I left for mass. It will be close to 80 this afternoon. I finished my breakfast and fed four dogs, all in different rooms. Now to clean the bathroom, take time to go to center and exercise. I will definitely spray shrubs and cut back a lot of plants today. Too nice to spend too much time indoors.
Sandy I think you made a wise choice to not go. If its not fun for you, you should not subject yourself to it.
I got my flu shot yesterday at Publix. Went there for sweet potatoes and got a shot. Picked up some cereal that were BOGO to take to the food pantry at church. Making the roasted vegetable soup today for sure. All veggies are on the counter and ready to be cut and roasted.
Hope everyone enjoys this day. Karen sorry about the smoke.

Geri Iâm interested in how you make soup from roasted veg.
Karen E you are one busy lady.
Jane I felt the first 2/3 of that book to be the most interesting. But it does give a fair history of Florida growth and development.

Late check in for me today. Mike is working on prepping the floor for laying down the hardwood and I have been helping move things, and fetching things, feeding him and making sure he has drinks. Not hard work but necessary.
Sandy, Good for you for sticking up for yourself. If it were Mike, he would feel fine going without me, but everyone is different. I am sure Fred doesn't appreciate how you are treated by his sisters and is caught between whether to go or not. I am with you on this one. They are his sisters and if he chooses not do go he needs to let them know, not you.
Sharon, We had lots of wind yesterday and again today, but no rain and none expected today. I do not like walking when there is a lot of wind. It will be cooler today, so I may walk later. I have that scraper tool for the Vitamix but I never use it. I don't even know where it is. Do you like Schitt's Creek? I have watched a couple of episodes and the jury is still out. Mike does not like it at all. My friend, Saraha, thinks it is the best show on TV.
Have any of you that are Silver Sneakers eligible tried the SS Live classes yet? They are on Zoom, and like Facebook they do not see you. I did the yoga, pilates, barre yesterday. It was intermediate to advanced but I felt she offered enough modifications that even beginners could handle it. It was pretty good.

Late checking in today as I've had some yardwork to catch up on and still not done. It's going to be the death of me yet. If it were up to me we'd sell the house and move into a condo where there would be less yard work. It wasn't so bad when I was younger and hubby healthy. But right now it's a burden.
Will leave shortly to go get the kids from school, then homework (Yuk, as it's a fight to get granddaughter to do it.), then fix their dinner (not sure what yet), then home for dinner with Jerry, dishes, and walk Duke.
I made a start on the afghan for grandsons wedding. A whole 5" done. Good thing wedding is a ways off. Been postponed twice now due to Covid.
My birthday is December 18. I was a Christmas baby. And this year I'll be 79.
We had lots of wind yesterday and today. No rain today, so far but living inland we usually get it in the afternoon. Although yesterday we had rain all day off and on.

Pat, I don't know how you do it! Yard work in FL is impossible because everything grows so fast. We have a lawn service. They fertilize and do weed control and pest control on the lawn as well as trim the bushes. We take care of the flowers, which is fairly easy. I have a condo that I use for rental income. Before I bought it I was considering a small home. My DD said not to buy something unless I was prepared to pay for lawn service because it was a necessity in FL, which is why I bought the condo. It is nice to have it for rental income and know that I could move there if need be. The nice thing is that it is paid off and I only pay HOA dues.

I agree with what others have said, Sandy. You have a right to say no. And the email did go to Fred, so it is his responsibility to RSVP. I feel sorry for Fred's sister, her family and friends and Fred, but that does not take away how important it is to do what is right for you.
Sharon, I have been a SCHITT'S CREEK fan and was pleased that the show got so much recognition. I know many people who couldn't get into it, but I have seen a number of films with the major actors (BEST IN SHOW, e.g.) and they always hit my funny bone. Your DGGD makes me want to be around little ones again. I have a wait. That Vitamix tool sounds good. I don't like missing a drop of the things I make. Let us know how it works or you if you get it.
Karen, I've been thinking about you and the smoke. I think you are wise not to push it.
Vicki and Karen E, it is gorgeous outside here too. I went to Costco for Senior Hour shopping and it was a bit chilly earlier. But perfect weather for walking. I have over 5000 steps already without a walk so I should be able to get my 10000 in today. I wasn't even close yesterday.
Yes, Geri, please share the roasted vegetable soup recipe!
Is Mike doing all that work on his own, Ruth? I am impressed.
While at Costco I got my hearing aids looked at and asked why the streaming to my phone was not working. Apparently when the iPhone does some updates it changes the settings that affect this function. I am a happy camper. I love listening to books and podcasts while I walk.
I also stopped off at J.Jill and got an outfit that I love. I am now a S or XS. I like the way I look in clothes. Without them not so much. After losing 110 pounds in my 70s there is lots of extra skin. But that's the way it is. I am not willing to go through the surgery to take care of it.
I think I'll take a short nap before my nap. Went to bed late, got up early.
Have a good one!

Pat, It is very unlikely I will forget your birthday. You share the same birthday as my DSil, who is also named Pat Gail, Yes, Mike is doing all of the work himself. He is very handy and does better than most anyone he could hire to do the job, even though that was not his profession. Contractors in FL are not very reliable. Sometimes his son helps him, but he is leaving for Utah tomorrow. Mike was a product consultant for Nestle before he retired. After he retired he got his real estate license and went to work with his son, who owns Consult Realty.
