Good morning and Happy Monday!
All crafters are welcome here as we discuss crafting, life and our weight loss journey. Crafting includes actual hands on crafting, such as crochetting, knitting, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, painting, jewelry making, etc.....plus reading craft catalogs, craft blogs, watching craft you tubes or other crafting videos, chatting here about crafting, chatting with another person about crafting, reading craft emails, thinking about crafting, organizing crafting supplies, going into craft stores or the craft aisle in a store , attending craft fairs,or any other activity that inspires or directs your mind toward a crafting activity- even visiting us here to join in our posts!! There are plenty of days in which the closest we get to crafting is a visit here, so even if you have no time to craft, we would love to hear from you. We welcome newcomers to our friendly discussion! So glad you are here!! Please feel free to stop in and say hello.

Phyl- you’ve been quiet....hope that you are feeling well and not in any discomfort. Do you have any updates on Doris?
Sue- gosh I heard something about snow in the Midwest...I know you are upper Midwest- but am wondering how you are faring. Hard to believe that not too long ago fires were a concern. Are all the wildfires out?? Yes, I too hope you are enjoying those quilting books and getting lots of inspiration from them. I have a crochet pattern that is granny squares, but is meant to look like a quilt. Its very very pretty....so even quilting can inspire our crocheting or knitting. Hope that you are doing well, and that the squatter issue is being peacefully resolved.
Ruth- why don’t you lay the buttons on the cowls....take a cell phone or tablet picture of the different possibilities and then walk away from the cowls for a few hours?? Or, you could post the pictures here and we can help with the decision? I mention pictures - a good quilting buddy of mine suggested taking pictures of my BOM when I was working on the layout to help me figure out what to place where. It was a real eye opener and I saw things in a very different way., changing my layout to reflect what I saw. No matter what, I know your grandchildren will love the cowls....and they won’t know which button was the “right” button or the wrong one. Just checking- how is Dd feeling after her medical procedure of a few weeks ago? Hope she is recovering well.
CJ- well you sure were busy!!! Love both the Falala quilt and the Autumn one...personally I love star blocks, so that tells you what block in the Christmas pair I like. its so pretty how you have used snowflake fabric in both- a really nice and subtle way to unify the design. I do remember how you were uncomfortable with the autumn topper and that you had used a darker green. Ha ha ha....that “problem” has disappeared now that the blocks are all together! (As we had figured) It looks great. Looking forward to seeing what you do this week as you get final assembly instructions for your projects. Yes the rain eventually came up here- and i have had a gentle rain falling for several hours. (We needed it).
Got lunch out today with a former coworker/old friend. Have not seen each other for many many years....it should be interesting. Gotta finish working on the material for study group tonight, and I want to continue to work with the decorative stitching on the panel quilt before I actually use the decorative stitching on the quilt.
Hope Rene is doing ok- been a while since she has checked in to say hello.
See ya later. Ginny

Ginny, I'm in the Northern Rockies in Montana, elevation 5,000 feet. The weather and long winters aren't something everyone would choose, but I enjoy the long winters. They aren't particularly age friendly and do require some extra planning to prevent falls. My body does better with cooler temperatures, but the last two days have been colder than absolutely necessary! Next we're going to have a heat wave in the 50s, but the nighttime temperatures will be below freezing.
It's been a while since the total amount of snow has amounted to this much in one snowfall, so clearing the back deck has been a challenge. hb seems to have finally lost interest, but that's okay. The front and driveway are handled by the snow guy.
This is a four dog lap day!

Good morning Ginny and Sue and all who come in later.
Well our temp didn't get down to what they said after all. It was only -2.
Dh is always ordering things online mostly from Walmart. Things like canned goods and candy and a few other categories. Well today one of his boxes arrived and they accidentally sent a stuffed toy which is really weird looking. It's supposed to be a dog named Bluey. I've never heard of him.
I wanted to order some yarn in RHSS in grey ombre called anthrocite to make dh a pocket shawl in grey tones. Well I do think that it's just plain unconscionable that all the stores are taking such advantage of people during this virus and charging so much for yarns and knit and crochet accesories. Yarn I bought in Dec for $3.51 is now over $12!!
I really didn't get much done in the way of crafting yesterday. I made a hat that turned out baby size and that's about it.
Ginny, that's an excellent idea to take pictures of the cowls with different choices of buttons. I should have thought of it because people are always doing that on the crochet groups. They ask about which buttons, which pom poms, which color border, etc

Sue- thanks for the explanation of where you live....its sure pretty up there and the Rocky Mountains are magnificent. (Was there when I was a child). Long winters are not for everyone- but they do not bother me either. As you said, with proper preparation, its not a problem. It does take some extra care to make sure you can stay safe....A heat wave in the 50’s? Ha ha ha. As long as your home is well heated and the dogs are there for extra insulation, all is well!! Hope you got the snow off the deck- they do make electric snow shovels- like mini snow blowers- that would make it easier to shovel snow off the deck Ruth- Only - 2? Sounds like a heat wave!! And I have never heard of Bluey. Wow- those yarn prices are absurd. Joanns had POL a few weeks ago, the price was not great- but it was not bad either. Walmart- store pick up only- has it for $3.44. Have you checked Hobby Lobby- they will not have red heart but perhaps something comparable. Best of luck taking pictures of the cowls- and I hope you get good feedback. I try to respond to those who put quilting decisions online for public opinion. Got a little bit more of the top stitching today- and have made more decisions regarding how the final stitching will be. Now just hope it all turns out of!!! I was out a bit today- had lunch with a former coworker who I have not seen in many many years. Good to catch up. Ginny.

Oh my goodness! I had no idea that there are electric shovels! I just looked them up on Amazon. For most of our snow, one would probably work well on the deck. I'm not sure about the depth we just had. I'm still looking but I'll probably get one. Thanks for the tip!

Sue- I actually have two- (one was my mom’s the other my mother in laws.....we ended up with both when they passed). For a light fluffy snow they work pretty well, especially on a deck. Ours are Toro- the ones that we got for them are around $100 from Home Depot. Hope it works out for you and makes your life easier. The ones I have here are not heavy- can be lifted with one hand- and would do a deck just fine. Gotta get mine out so it’s ready for use then the the white stuff starts to fall..
Heading out to see Dd and the grandkids in a little while....and I have an eye doctor appointment later on. Funny about my glasses. The newer pair (they are almost a year old) have been a bit problematic- the screws that hold the temples in are always loosening. I tighten them myself, but these past 2 times have taken them to the optician to see if he can do a better job than I am. Getting tired of tightening the screws every other day. Yesterday when I stopped in they took the glasses in the back- and the repair seemed awfully long. When he brought my glasses out he handed me the glasses and explained what happened. When he tried to tighten the screws he accidentally broke the frame which could not be repaired. Thankfully he had another of my frame- in a different color and put my lenses in that. I liked the old color better, but these are ok and at least I have a pair of glasses. Thankful for that.
Off for my walk Ginny

Hello Crafters Ruth and Sue - you sure are having some cold weather. Hope you get a bit milder weather again before winter. Ginny - I'm glad you were able to get another pair of glasses. Phyl - Hope you are feeling well. Yesterday I did things around the house and finally set up a few medical appointments I'd put off because of the virus. I guess everyone is going back to their appointments now because I have to wait until December to get a dental cleaning. Today I went grocery shopping and also ran a few errands. It's still kind of exhausting to shop, but I think it's bringing in the groceries and putting them away that is the most tiring for me. I should be good now for several weeks before I'd need some milk, yogurt, and other dairy products. I saw the small Butterball turkey boneless breasts in stock at one store and went ahead and bought one, at least I'll have it now for Thanksgiving if I want to save it till then to cook. This same store also sells cooked turkey breasts, so I bought one of them to eat for a few days. I haven't been able to do any quilting for a few days, but hopefully I can work on the FaLaLa table runner later this week. The finishing instructions came out yesterday and they are O.K., but not how I'd choose to finish the runner. So I have to decide if I want to use the pattern or do something on my own. I'm hoping to get my design wall set up too so I can take a picture of the Autumn Jubilee quilt blocks/rows I've done so far and also to figure out how I want to layout the three remaining Rainbow Block Challenge quilt tops. Hope you are all getting to do some shopping. Have a good day!

Good evening, Yes, I did get some shopping in today - along with some errands. CJ- I also saw the finishing directions for the Falala quilt and totally agree with you- its nice but not how I would finish it. You have enough experience with quilting that I have total confidence in your ability to come up with finishing directions that you like. Personally I would prefer a solid border. But that is my taste....I had heard up here that getting cleaning appointments were hard to come by (I had scheduled mine 6 months ago). I was very impressed with how careful the dentist office was with their precautions...hope you are too. Its important we take care of our teeth for sure. Glad you were able to get a turkey- now you will not have to be concerned with that if they are in short supply as Thanksgiving approaches.
Went to the eye doctor - saw Dd and 2 of the grandkids and ran some errands. I was gone most of the day after 10- so being home now feels good. Got some crocheting done in the eye doctors waiting room. Ginny

CJ, with your experience and a great natural ability to put quilts together I'm sure that your idea of finishing will be excellent. It will be great to see your other quilt on your design wall. I'm happy to hear that you were able to get a turkey in advance of the Thanksgiving rush and potential shortage of food. Have the already cooked on to have for several days is a great idea. I can think of several things to make with turkey breast. I do prefer the thighs but we haven't had a turkey for a couple years and I doubt we'll have one this year either. I wonder if the stores would cut a frozen turkey in half for their customers. I'd love to have them do that for me then I could save one half for later. I don't have refrigerator space for leftovers from a whole turkey and hate to buy separate breast and thigh because they cost some much more buying them that way.
Ginny, it sounds as though you also had a very busy day. It does seem like there is always a long wait time at eye doctors. I should think about making a dentist appointment also. I'm glad your's is being careful. Anytime I was at mine there was never very many people in the waiting room.
It was much warmer here today. The temp started going up late at night again and today was maybe close to 50. I did get the main part of dgs' blanket done and now am doing a border using hdc in the third loop. It makes a border that is ridged on one side but even the flat side looks pretty good. (wish it was ridged on both sides...I'll have to do some experimenting) The best part is that it goes really fast so I should have the whole thing done maybe tomorrowThen I'll start on the one for sil. After that will be 5 more pocket shawls and I do have the yarn together for 3 of them. I will have to make a sneak trip to Walmart's yarn aisle because I hear they have just the yarn I want at a great price. I looked on Herrschner's site and it's $8.99/skein plus shipping and at Walmart it's less than $4

Good morning- guess its “hump day”, isn’t it?
Ruth, I sure hope that your Walmart has the yarn you want. I did a quick online look, the grey colors are very popular this year indeed. And it stinks that AC Moore is gone- I used to like to buy yarn from them as they were always well stocked in the different colors. You impress me- the thought of making 5 more pocket shawls is quite something! They take a lot of work- much more than a hat or scarf. Hope you can figure out the border the afghan so that you can make it ridged on both sides. It does sound pretty.
As far as turkeys go, if I get a “free” one, I will have the butcher cut it in half for me. They used to do that for my mom...or I will get a turkey breast and use that to have family over for dinner.
Got some crocheting in. Think I have to make around 140 rows (need to rewatch the video) and am now on row 118. Getting there.
Hope to quilt later on. G

I've heard a lot of good things about AC Moore's yarn. They were bought out by Michael's who is now selling the leftovers from Moore but it's probably gone by now. And speaking of Michaels, I looked up their yarn online and almost all of it says that it's not available in my store. I was hoping for years that they would open one here and they finally did last year. I haven't been in it but from what I hear I won't be in it in the near future either. They may have some things like buttons and other do-dads that I could use on my crochet items but if they have as poor a yarn selection as I'm told I won't bother. I did find some great bargains from them online so I may order. They don't have the RH ombre I wanted in stock but they have colors that will work ok in their impeccable yarns
Well I got all the gifts (except for the cowls) in two boxes. I'm sure dh was envisioning 4 or 5 boxes. I'm good at packing though. I left enough room for the cowls and I also got some buttons in the mail today that I ordered. They said delivery could be expected between Nov 4th and Dec 21st but they're here and they're perfect.
I still have a lot to do today so probably won't get dgs' blanket done today. Ginny, I have one more blanket and those 5 shawls to do and there is now probably a little over 7 weeks left before Christmas so hopefully I can get one item done per week.I probably can since I don't do much else.
See you all later.

Hello Crafters - Phyl and Sue - Hope you are well. Ginny - Hope you get those 22 more rows done on your project. Ruth - That was great to get everything into 2 boxes, so much easier to take out to mail. Hope you can get those other projects done before Christmas. I liked A.C. Moore a lot better than Michael's and I miss them. Their store layout and lighting was so nice and they were always stocked well. The Michael's nearest to me is dark inside and just not enjoyable to go in. Since I get most of what I need from JoAnn's I rarely ever go there. It's a bit cloudy here today, but mild. We're supposed to get up to 3 inches of rain tomorrow, but I hope they have it wrong (which they usually do with most weather forecasts around here ) and we get less. I've been eating turkey for since yesterday, probably have enough for 2 more meals (it was a half of a turkey breast). I like a cold turkey sandwich, so I'll probably have one of those. I took a picture of the rows for my Autumn Jubilee quilt and I'll post it below. I'm pleased to see that they are mostly the same length, I'm not that good on keeping an accurate 1/4 inch seam. I'm interested to see how she is joining these together. I have several autumn prints I could use between the rows or as borders, but I'm not sure if they'd make the quilt too busy. Guess I'll have to wait until Friday to see what it is. Hope everyone is getting some crafting done and having nice weather. Take care
