We talk about so much here and it's wonderful, I appreciate this board and all of you more and more all the time.
I can't remember a time in my life when I have felt this much anxiety especially this length of time. There have been periods since the virus came that I wake up shaking. Most of the time I can feel butterflies in my stomach. I'm exhausted and it's wearing me down, especially because there is no end in sight and apparently no ceiling as Ohio cases are skyrocketing.
How are you doing? How are you keeping your anxiety in check?

Jennifer, I'm hanging in. My community is very mask/distancing compliant. I am resigned to at least another 2 months or so of being very careful given the spread that is going on nationwide right now. I am lucky that I don't have to work or have children to worry about re: schooling, and so far the finances have not taken a major hit. I know many are suffering.

Jennifer, What is helping me with my anxiety in general is meditation. I've bought some of Deepak Chopra's meditation series and I usually do one of the meditations a day. I can tell the difference the next day if I don't do one. There are meditations available for free on YouTube.

Jennifer, I have problems with anxiety and depression and I often "feel" it as I wake up in the morning. I do my best to get up and get moving. I feed the cats, take some meds, wash up, get dressed, then I start breakfast and have some coffee. I look forward to the coffee for the boost and I find that sipping a warm beverage relaxes me. When I first wake up I remind myself I will feel better after breakfast and coffee, not perfect but better. Also my theory is that most people have a certain amount of low blood sugar first thing in the morning and I think that affects mood. Maybe you could get up and eat something right away, that might help to change your thoughts. I wait to eat because of my depression. I want to make sure I'm put together before I start my day or else I might stay in PJ's all day. Deep breathing and exercise can also change your thoughts. If you like herbal tea I find Celestial Seasonings Sleepy Time Tea very soothing to have. One thing that is pushed in the meditations I follow is that our worries come when we focus on the past or on the future. They suggest on staying in the now to avoid worries. If you can focus on what is right in front of you you might get your anxious thoughts to stop for a while. When worried about the future I often work on thinking of things I can do to take care of the worries. My mom use to polish the furniture when she was worried. You might want to avoid reading about the pandemic in the media for a while.

I will say, I didn't start looking into mindfullness and eventually meditation until my mid-50s. Before then, I was able to power through stuff, then things started to change in my life and I needed help. Therapy never did much for me. I meditate six days a week (I give myself Friday off). I'm still freaking out about the world in general, especially right now, but I can function, and distance myself from all the drama when I need to. Remember, your essential nature is unbounded, and you are spirit disguised as a person. - from Deepak.
