I cant say much else after ladymajky 's epic post, which says it all.
WARNING: Confession Ahead
So...today was my birthday, I am now 60. And I am a bit freaked out by that if I'm being honest (I'm taking advice from those of you who have already passed that hurdle, should you feel the desire to share any wise words with me). When did that fucking happen?!? I was jut 39, like, a few years ago, wasn't I?!? Anyway, my sister sent a birthday cake - lemon cake - truth be told it was 'just okay', not amazing, not OHMYGODTHATISTHEBESTCAKEIHAVEEVEREATEN, just 'okay'. A bit dry if I'm giving critique to the baker. That said, last night I was wondering if it was even any good, so I decided to have a slice, not a big slice, just a half inch wide slice, you know, just to try it on the eve of this big birthday. I had it and it was okay, it was fun even. And I knew the PP were going to be huge, so I didn't even track it because I honestly have no clue how many points to assign it but I know I'm waaaay over. This morning my husband greeted me with a Sprinkles cupcake and a candle - thank got it was just one candle so he didn't burn the house down, but I digress...I ate that with coffee. Then I went out to do a bunch of errands and came back later and instead of having lunch I had another half inch piece of CAKE. Because it was my birthday, did I mention it was a BIG birthday so you know, I DESERVED it! I did not track it because again, I have no idea how many PP are in that sliver of cake but I know it's a lot. Then tonight we went to a friends house where they pulled out all the stops to make me a socially-distanced birthday dinner as memorable as possible under a pandemic. There was birthday music, banners, festive "So you're 40!" birthday decorations because apparently 60 is the new 40 according to my sister and friends, and there was delicious home made Indian cuisine. Then after dinner we had...can you guess...CAKE. The same cake. I brought it to her house. It is a huge cake, did I mention that? It can serve like 12 people but I really think it can serve about 24 people if they had slivers of it. So I cannot refuse my own birthday cake being served to me, can I? I cannot. That would be extremely rude! So I had a 3rd sliver of cake for dessert. But the good thing is that I convinced my friend to keep the rest of the cake, which now has approximately 19 slivers left, and just freeze it in her extra freezer. She has grandkids, kids like cake, I'm doing her a huge favor. Anyway, she tells me on the way out, 'dont be surprised if next year I serve you more of your Covid Birthday cake'. I better start banking extra points for next year.
But the upshot to all the above is, I know that within a 24 hour period I ate three pieces of birthday cake AND a birthday cupcake (the latter was superior to the cake in case you're wondering...), and I ENJOYED THE HELL out of every bite, even the cake that was not mind blowing, because the frosting was really quite fabulous. I'm not even going to attempt to track this nonsense, but tomorrow I'll be back on track. So I'm okay with the intentional derailment.
