Day 12 – Practice Hunger Tolerance
Today is the day (if you want to) you skip lunch, track your hunger discomfort scale, and see how well you tolerate hunger. Beck explains that hunger may seem intense but those feelings often go away and become tolerable.
Beck maintains that a lot of unnecessary eating is done because people are afraid of hunger when you don’t need to be afraid of hunger.
Are you going to do this today or another day? If so, let us know the result. If you have done it previously let us know how you did when you did it. If you are not going to do it let us know why.

I've done this exercise twice, once it went well and the other time my mood went into the pits and I had to wait two hours after I could finally eat to be able to be civil when I posted. Therefore I work at not getting too hungry because I worry about mood changes. I won't be doing this exercise because I don't like feeling hungry. What I've found with me is later in the day I can handle hunger but earlier in the day I usually eat something extra. Plus if I do the exercise I have to plan out my day so I have all sorts of things to keep me busy to keep my mind off the hunger.

I will probably give this one a miss. I would rather keep my fuel tank half full or not hit empty...

I will not be skipping a meal today as I don't feel well if I don't eat every couple hours. When I was younger I could go a long period without eating but not at this age.
No sugar on day 7!👍

I won’t be doing this exercise today. When I skip meals at this point it gives me indigestion and I tend to overeat at the next meal.

I, too, have done this in the past and don't feel a need to repeat.
When DH was around, we ate on a strict schedule because of his meds. I didn't want to be fixing him a meal that I couldn't eat, and then sit there and watch him eat it. It made him uncomfortable, too. Nowadays, I am trying to pay more attention to my body and discern whether I am really truly hungry, or merely responding to the clock. Sometimes when I am feeling antsy and keep finding myself roaming around the kitchen repeatedly checking the cupboards, I figure that my body is trying to tell me something. I go ahead and eat the next meal regardless of whatever the clock says. When I do that, I am able to settle down to doing something else.
Thinking in terms of the Chain of Events Leading to Eating.......
TRIGGER ➡ THOUGHT ➡ DECISION ➡ ACTION
TRIGGER: Hunger! Growling stomach; Hangry; Headache
THOUGHT: [Sabotage]: I am hungry! I must eat right now!
Interrupt the Chain of Events: Hunger is not an emergency
THOUGHT: [Helpful]: It’s not time to eat. Never mind; just wait until later.
DECISION: Just because I want to eat, doesn’t mean I should
ACTION: I’ll do something else to distract myself

I’m going to do this on Friday. I was swamped yesterday and didn't check in until tonight so I'll do this tomorrow. I find it's not a big deal and I normally will eat a late breakfast and that will hold me over until dinner. I just don't find skipping lunch to be a huge deal. To me, it almost makes me eat less because if I'm not eating consciously, for some reason I don't want to snack either.
