Good morning and Happy Monday!
All crafters are welcome here as we discuss crafting, life and our weight loss journey. Crafting includes actual hands on crafting, such as crochetting, knitting, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, painting, jewelry making, etc.....plus reading craft catalogs, craft blogs, watching craft you tubes or other crafting videos, chatting here about crafting, chatting with another person about crafting, reading craft emails, thinking about crafting, organizing crafting supplies, going into craft stores or the craft aisle in a store , attending craft fairs,or any other activity that inspires or directs your mind toward a crafting activity- even visiting us here to join in our posts!! There are plenty of days in which the closest we get to crafting is a visit here, so even if you have no time to craft, we would love to hear from you. We welcome newcomers to our friendly discussion! So glad you are here!! Please feel free to stop in and say hello.

Good morning! After a week of erratic sleep, I finally zzzzoned out and not only fell asleep around seven but got up and went to bed at nine and slept until six! Wow! What a difference!
Today I'm doing some more paperwork, several loads of laundry and setting mouse traps, both in the house and the garage. The last activity is just a part of country living.
I started a new scarf. Single crochet because the yarn has lots of texture. I'm using a Lion Brand thick and quick homespun. The color is claret with a variation in hue, although not enough to affect the pattern. It looks cheery!

Sue, I'm glad you got some sleep. Your scarf sounds very pretty and yes, we all need cheery things this year.
I did get in some crocheting this morning and some laundry but then dh decided to winterize the vehicles so I helped by keeping him company. Now I'm ready to get back to crafting. I fully intended to finish the pocket shawl last evening but got sidetracked doing what CJ mentioned yesterday...go to one site online and end up going to more

Good evening, Sue- so glad you finally got a decent amount of rest!!! Simply amazing what getting the right amount of sleep can do for us. We feel so much better and I am glad you are. The scarf sounds pretty...a single crochet scarf should go quickly for you - especially cause you are using a bulky yarn. Enjoy....hope you find it relaxing too. I have to put mouse traps in the shed and sometimes in the house. I have two mobile mouse traps here- sometimes they fall asleep on the job and I have to resort to the mechanical ones.
Ruth, think we all have those days in which we get caught up in internet crafting and looking for patterns etc....I am sure Dh enjoyed your assistance and company winterizing your vehicles. that kind of time spent together is important too.....glad you had that time together!!! The pocket shawl will be waiting for you to finish when you get a chance.
Got a little bit of top stitching done on the second pocket shawl and I made the templates (from quilting paper) for the decorative top stitch I will do. Tomorrow is busy, so I probably will not get to sew until Wednesday. G

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Phyl - I'm glad you are making progress on the Christmas stockings, hope it's still going well. Sue - I'm happy you got some rest and hopefully that continues. Enjoy making that scarf. Ruth - Hope your DH got the cars done and that you enjoyed your time on the Internet Ginny - How were things in JoAnn's? Do they still have Christmas fabric for sale? I hope you will share some pictures of the quilting on your panel quilt - I'd still like to see the different threads you were talking about. I went for an eye exam today, this is the first medical appointment I've had since early March when all the virus stuff started in my state. It was pretty good and I felt like they had good safety procedures. It's still kind of stressful dealing with all the different ways things are done now. After that I got some groceries. It was a bit later in the day than I usually go (around 11:00 instead of 9:00) and the store was pretty busy. They seemed to have things stocked well for Thanksgiving foods and baking supplies. But I did notice that the toilet paper aisle was mostly empty. I also still couldn't find any canned carrots. The other thing that wasn't in stock was large Dixie (and even store brand) bowls. I like to use them for some things, mostly because I'm lazy I'd bought a large pack of them at Costco back in the summer and I'm just about out. I don't want to even go in a Costco until January. I've heard that around here there are lines again going into the store. I sure hope we don't have a repeat of all that hoarding from earlier this year. I haven't done any quilting or crafting since last week, just not in the mood with all the stuff going on in my life. Hopefully I'll get to something soon. Take care everyone

Hey CJ- good to see you here.....I have seen that too- sporadic (and sometimes nonsensical) shortages in thinks that make no sense. Wonder why you are unable to get carrots?? Why could we not find brown gravy mix??? And what is with the Dixie bowls? Do you think there is some nut somewhere hoarding them for some strange use?? Now I am just being silly- please do not take me seriously. But hoarding yarn or fabric is a good idea as it keeps all of us happy and content in our homes should we be locked up. Did you ever resolve the issue with the jumbo yarn and the crochet afghan you were considering making? Glad you got your eye exam in. Its important to continue to take care of yourself- as long as you are following safe practices.
It snowed this am when I went for my walk. Just a light snow, but it was so pretty!!!! Went to Joanns with Jane....I picked up some fat quarters for the mug organizer I want to make for her for Christmas. Helped her pick out a really pretty fabric for the backing of the quilt she is making for her mom. Guess she needed another pair or eyes to find the right fabric. Gonna start working on my Bible study material for next week (there is some work to do every day) and then crochet while watching television.
Last night I got the templates traced for the quilting stitching i will be doing. I decided that using the variegated thread will be the best- did not even attempt to use plain red thread. The variegated is so pretty and I love using it. Will post pictures when I do get around to some stitching. G

I didn't think that many people bought either canned carrots or paper bowls. It's esp strange that there were no bowls.I'm glad you were able to get your eye exam CJ. That's yet another thing I have to do at some point before I drive anywhere not local. It's good you got your grocery shopping in also. Of now that I think about it, for the last pickup I ordered frozen carrots and they were out of stock so then I ordered frozen peas and carrots and they were also out of stock so carrots must be something that everyone wants. On my previous pickup order they were out of fresh carrots in a 5# bag
Ginny, it's sounds like you also had a good and productive day with buying fabric and helping your friend pick hers out. We have plenty of tp but I don't think you could call us hoarders of it. We don't have as much as we usually have in case of emergency but we do have enough to last for quite some time. We do also have plenty of paper towels and napkins and Kleenex so I think we're actually all set for paper products. Got one side of the pocket shawl done and hope to do the other yet this evening
See you all tomorrow

Good morning!!
Ruth, glad you and Dh are all set for paper products in your house.. Honestly, it just makes sense- and I never could figure out constantly being hand to mouth with basic supplies like that. I am sure you and Dh are stocked sufficiently so that if you do not want to go out (even before covid) you do not have to. Honestly, think all of us on the thread sort of live that way...guess its a good thing to be thankful that we are able to live that way. Did you get the other side of the pocket shawl done last night?
Heading to the store in a little while- this time I am getting ready for Thanksgiving and will be buying everything but the turkey. That I will pick up this weekend. But today is senior discount day- and I might as well take advantage of the discount offered on Wednesday.
Other than going to Joanns yesterday, and checking in here, I got no crafting done. Looks like Friday I am going with Jane to another quilt shop- one close to the eye specialist that I have an appointment with on Friday. Jane was more than happy to check out this quilt shop when I realized that I was going to be 5 minutes from the shop when I go to the doctor.
Its cold here!! Right now about 28 degrees....

Good morning Crafters, maybe the paper products shortages have something to do withe guidelines for Thanksgiving.
Limited amount of guests,do not travel, no alcohol drinks,no singing, open windows(yeah right in Midwest cold states) use paper products this is what cable news stations are saying..depending on who they are talking to.
a lot of people who have gatherings during holiday seasons do use paper products.
oh yeah still working on the 3 CHRISTMAS stockings.who would think 3 stockings could take so long to do?
got the first two almost done. third one could not figure out why my batting was showing through like when you you miss closing a seam. DUH forgot to trim the batting before putting the back piece on.so ripped that out. least it was straight stitching.lol
I get this one done, just have cuff and loop to do.
today is pt after lunch.no sure if I will get to my machine today.
Ginny your friend likes pretty fabric. look up Tess world products/African fabrics /fat quarters.one of my online friends is making masks out of it. no she is not African.Amazon also has it.
HAPPY CRAFTING TODAY. phyl

I usually stock up for winter, but before the shutdown in March, I ordered a lot of basics from Amazon. Those items come in cases which is the reason I ordered them to begin with. I made three major shopping expeditions during the week before because I was running out of a number of items. One of my best finds was a few weeks ago. I particularly like Honest Earth creamy mashed potatoes that used to be at Costco, but the prices were outrageous online. I found out that they are made by Idahoan in Idaho and are sold at a reasonable price plus I got 20% off and free shipping. Turns out that they just added mashed yams. I'm going to try them.
Usually there are two Kirkland toilet paper packages in reserve. Now I try to double that and practice use one, buy one. If I had the bigger chest freezeri in the garage, I would buy a side of beef, lamb, pork, fish, frozen vegetable. I'm placing an order at the butcher shop every 3-6 weeks, usually ground beef and chickens.
I buy milk, eggs, bread and veggies every other week. Well, I don't do the shopping myself. hb's caregiver isn't caregiving, and he does shopping and errands for us. Someday I will probably do my own shopping every now and then and will utilize curbside pickup the rest of the time.
The squatter will be evicted tomorrow. My real estate agent will be there and will change the locks, board up a broken window, block the sliding doors and padlock the gate to the back. If the squatter returns he will be arrested. Closing will take place on Friday. I'm not going to hold my breath, but I hope all will go smoothly!
Two more inches on my scarf! Not much. I hope to do more tonight. While I was awake when I should have been sleeping, I ordered today's "cake" from msqc. Colors were yummy.

Yes we sure arennot environmentalists but we definitely believe in going out as little as possible and when we do go out shopping we by enough that we don't have to go back for awhile. We also order online and stock up on what we use a lot. Some go out shopping every day or every other day and that's their choice but it would not ever be mine. Plus when a situation like this pandemic occurs and you don't have reserves of things that you MUST have you are definitely in a bind. We don't have butcher shops here Sue so don't have that option. Well Sue must have got me thinking about the dreaded Homespun yarn and I have quite a bit of it since I got some in a mystery bag once. I decided to try to use it and started a pocket shawl with it and found that it's not bad after that first row. The yarn that didn't look all that great in the skein is really pretty when crocheted. I'm not using the thick and quick version like Sue though. Mine is just the regular. The color I'm using is Tudor and, as I said, looks very much better when worked. Well Ginny, you are all ready for a quilt and crochet marathon. If the weather gets bad you'll be all set to stay holme and craft. Oh, here's the pattern I'm using cdn.accentuate.io/4679634387037/12378270040157/Diagonal-Eyelet-Shawl_L80066-2-2-v1594645508716.pdf

My norm is to go to the store once a week- mainly because I like fresh bananas and salad. I usually stock up on items and do not need to go to the store that often.
Sue, congrats...sure hope that the squatter is out of the house and the closing can take place.
Ruth, glad you mastered homespun. I had trouble with it- even several rows in....but you are much better at crocheting than I am. I cannot imagine going shopping every other day or every day. What a waste of time.
Phyl, I will check out those batiks you suggested...I was the one who found them for Jane- and they were the only fabric that had those colors in them. Yes its going to be an interesting Thanksgiving. Hope we can all stay safe and covid free.
Started playing with the quilting paper- and it seems to be working out ok. Just do not look to closely at my work. I am having issues with the variegated thread, and am using red thread. It looks good and overall I am happy with it.
Hope CJ had a good day....wonder if she ever decided to take on that afghan. G

My brother posted something about politicians saying we had to stay home on Thanksgiving and eat spam. Well I'll be staying home but not because they said we had to and don't know if I'll be eating spam or not. I know it won't be turkey.
Ginny, I'm glad the paper and red thread are working for you.I'm eagerly awaiting seeing a picture. And that mug organizer will be a great gift for your friend! I don't know anything about that stuff. Do you draw the lines on it then sew onto the Quilt top then pull the paper off? I was thinking earlier today that I should get my quilt top that I made in the series of quilt classes I went to years ago and take a picture. Maybe even finish it because I don't think I ever did finish. On this homespun, I never got beyond the first row before. This pattern is pretty open so it's actually going pretty well now. I may have to make another for another dgd to use some more of it up.
