Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - That shawl is pretty, thanks for sharing the link. Hope it works out for you with the yarn. Sue - I'm glad you were able to get the MSQC deal the other day. It has to be more difficult for those of you that are several hours behind the east coast. Hope you finished your scarf. Ginny - Sorry you couldn't use the variegated thread, but I'm glad the red thread is working with the quilting paper. Phyl - Hope you are continuing to make progress on the stockings. We had some cold weather the last few days and a frost overnight. Today is sunny and not as cold, and I think it's supposed to be in the 60s tomorrow, nice weather for November. I did some hand quilting on my wholecloth piece yesterday. It's a medallion style and I've finished the center and 2 of the 4 borders. I'm about half way done on border 3 so I hope I can get it and border 4 finished before too much longer. Take care everyone and have a good day!

Ruth, I really like the shawl pattern you are using. I have quite a bit of homespun. I wouldn't go out of my way to buy more now that I know more, but I do think it produces very pretty results because of the variegated colors and is a good substitute for people who are allergic to wool. One negative is that imo(!) I don't think it's the right yarn for anything fitted or that will have unusually heavy use and need frequent laundering. I used a lot of homespun in a blanket I made. I used another acrylic of a similar weight with two strands and an extra large crochet hook. It's packed away somewhere because I don't want the dogs near it. Toenails. I do like the extra large homespun. Didn't add any more rows to the scarf, mainly because I'm trying to wind up the paperwork so I can make copies and get this batch to the attorney on Monday. If I start doing something I'd rather do, I won't finish. CJ, I was awake at four in the morning when I placed my msqc order! The squatter is out, but closing will be ? Locks are changed.

thank you for the kind comments on the shawl pattern. It's for a regular rectangle shawl with no pockets but I'll add some. The pattern makes it easy to work with the homespun but,yes Sue, it really won't withstand regular laundering. It will probably have to be done by hand. Also in person the yarn also makes the diagonal openings hard to see even if it doesn't show up that way in the picture. And the colors are kind of muted. I hear they have some with better colors now. And there is at least one mistake in the pattern. At the end of each row she tells you how many groups of the different stitches you should have and on I think, the third row she says there should be 2, 1 ch spaces but there is nothing in th4e line of the pattern that would indicate doing a second ch1. While doing that row I did think, hmmm, there should be a chain one here...and it was the case but anyone going to the next row if they hadn't crocheted a lot would have wondered what she was talking about when she says 2dc's in the first ch1 since, as I mentioned, following her directions there would be no chain 1 space in that location.
CJ, you're really getting things done. I know your house is filled with beautiful works of art that you did yourself. It sounds like you're having nice weather. 60's are great for Nov. I'd be happy to have 60's all the year except for a couple months in the summer when it could get to 70's.
Haven't had a chance to crochet yet. DH woke up right before I did so we visited then made food. I made beans in the instant pot and now they're on the stovetop turning into baked like beans and also a big pot of potato soup again, some pasta for dh to eat with th4e sauce I made him yesterday and an oatmeal cake with apples, nuts, and raisins with a broiled topping. Luckily dh's A1c stays stable at below 7 so he can eat this kind of thing now and then.
Ginny, how did your day go? Did you have a chance to do any crafting?

think I used homespun one time and did not like it.this was years ago.also was Back when they had fabric called homespun.we took a quilting class and I hated that fabric also. needless to say that quilt got donated fast.
did not sleep good last night.think I will go in my chair phyl oh have not worked on the stockings for 2 days.

Sue- congrats on the squatter being gone!!!! With the locks changed now it should be only a matter of time that the closing takes place. I cannot imagine anyone wanting to hold up the closing itself now...especially the individual who is buying the house. Thanks for the clarity on homespun. Indeed its so pretty and super soft...think that makes sense that you used a large crochet hook and a double strand of the yarn. I found that with a smaller hook it got stuck in the natural kinks and twists of the yarn. Does the extra large homespun also have that kinky and twisted strand?? Hope that you got your paperwork done- all copies made- so you can crochet when you want to now and do not feel that you have neglected anything. Yup, I have done that too- checking out the MSQ daily deal in the middle of the night when I could not sleep!!! Hope you get your fabric soon. (Mine took about a week- no more)
CJ- good to hear that you have some warmer temps- 60’s are a rare treat for November. Wow- that is some progress you made on the whole cloth piece! It seems like if you put only a few more house into it, that you will be done with it. I remember this was a goal of yours to finish this. Got plans for the whole cloth quilt when its done?
Ruth, that sure is a pretty shawl. The large holes really showcase the kinky character of the yarn. I am glad you are able to work with it.....I bet that shawl will be done soon. We can serve spam to politicians....I do not like spam anyway.
I am running out of red thread- good thing I will be heading to a new quilt shop tomorrow. So I guess I will crochet this evening. Ginny

Phyl- homespun makes great rag quilts....yes its not as tightly woven and does not hold its shape as well. Sounds like you and Delona had a lovely meeting on your lawn chairs. What did you think of the blueberry muffin??
Yes, Ruth, I got some stitching in- think I have 3 areas to stitch over the quilt paper - but am also most out of thread. Sorry for the mistake in the pattern....but if anyone was able to figure out the mistake and correct it, it would be you.
Mary Maxim order arrived. The yarn is gorgeous. G

well again they're making me sign in. The other day I changed my password and today it doesn't work. I guess I must have forgotten to click the save button for this site.
I hope you're all having a good day. Ginny, I hope you're finding some great things at the quilt store you're going to and that you find the thread you need for your current project.
CJ, I hope you're having a productive and/or enjoyable day. I don't remember what day you said you have appointments on but I hope they go well and it doesn't stress you too much.
It's a little cooler here today. High maybe will hit 50 but that's ok. I'll take it.
I got stuck on my row 14 of my shawl last night. It didn't match up with row 13 so I kept checking the end of row 13 to see if I could find the problem. Well when I FINALLY took out that whole row I found what I did wrong but it took me a long time to get to that point. After it was corrected it worked fine. Now I do have the 19 rows you see there on the pattern so just have to repeat them at least two more times.. The last shawl took me a whole week to get done. This one probably will too because I have other little things I want to crochet too in between bouts of working on this one. Then only three more to make. I realized this morning that I should have taken 9 more off the chain count because it's ending up wider than I would like. I think I'll use this same pattern but in another yarn and a smaller hook for one of the dgd's or my ddil that I have to make shawls for for Feb and March. I wish I had more of my colors of Lion's Heartland. That yarn would be perfect for this shawl.Or even scarfie...that would be great also.

Today is sunny. The back deck is very comfortable with the temperature at only 37 degrees. With the heat on, my toes are chilly. I'm going to have to check all the windows.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Phyl - I'm glad you were able to visit with your friend and enjoy some McDonald's breakfast. Hope you slept better last night. Ruth - Hope you can work out your login problems. I'm glad you figured out what was wrong in the shawl and hope the rest of it goes quickly. Isn't wanting to use a different yarn for the next one a good reason to buy more yarn? Sue - I'm glad you got the squatter out and hopefully will have no more problems with that. I also hope the closing goes smoothly. Sounds like you are having a heat wave Ginny - Hope you were able to find some thread, what kind is it? What type of paper are you using to quilt over? I hope it all goes well. It was very nice here today, in the 60s and sunny. I went out earlier to run some errands and to take a gift/card to my DB for his birthday that is next week. I wanted to get it to him before all the busyness of next week - people can get a bit crazy on the road during holidays Even though I said I wasn't going to go back in Costco again this year, I ended up going there this morning. My vacuum is not working anymore, and it's old. They had one on sale that my DB said is a good one, so I went and bought it during the early (9-10 AM) senior hour. I got there right at 9:00 and they were already letting people in so there wasn't any line to get in the store. There were quite a lot of people there, but I checked out really quickly. I also bought a new Fitbit and found some more masks. I looked for the Dixie paper bowls but they didn't have any bowls at all for sale. I guess the manufacturers are just not making them right now. I also bought just a few groceries while I was out, so now I'm good for several weeks. I wanted to get some of the precooked chicken that they sell in the deli so I could use it for my dinner. I bought some shredded cabbage a few days ago, and had some cooked carrots, so I stir fried that with the chicken and I'm enjoying that for dinner and I'll have some left for tomorrow too. Take care everyone and have a great weekend

Oh, Sue, I am sorry to hear that you are feeling the cold. Are you wearing slippers or warm socks? Now that sounds very strange with the back deck being comfortable at only 37 degrees. Hope that at the least that it is nice and sunny and that makes it all feel warmer than a cold and dark day.
Ruth, I know you ordered yarn- did you get more of the heartland that you like- or scarfie?? Think Joanns had one of them on sale...but I do not remember for sure. So sorry that it took so long to figure out what was a problem with the pocket shawl, don’t ya hate it when you have to take out so much?? Would you consider getting more heartland or scarfie for the other pocket shawls that you want to make? It all sounds like a lot of work, as those pocket shawls do not go that quickly. But we know you can handle it....
this new quilt shop is small- and has a different slant on the type of fabric they well. Jane got some fabric for the backing of some mini quilts she is making (she was very happy to find the same fabric line at this shop) and Yes I found the thread I needed, plus I bought a book of quilt designs. No, I didn’t need this book of quilt designs, but really did not find any fabric there that called my name loudly.
Schools here will be closing for virtual learning only for the 2 weeks after Thanksgiving and New Years. Guess they are hoping to avoid these two big holidays from becoming problems for the districts (its a county wide order). As Dd#1 returns to work just before Christmas - well I won’t be working for awhile then!

CJ- we were posting at the same time! Glad you got those errands done and congrats on the new vacuum. What brand did you get? I don't need one, am just curious. I love my fitbit- did not know that you wore one. It keeps me honest and moving....making sure that I get my steps in. I have the Charge 2. Regarding your Dixie bowls- Walmart has them- and certain varieties can be ordered from their web site. You can get free shipping if you spend $35- something I always manage to do. Wonder if its a distribution problem- and that the paper bowls are just not available in your area. Just for laughs when I go to the store early tomorrow am, I will see it we have them here. Although I think we might be back to that time where things are in short supply because of hoarding. Your stir fried chicken dinner sounds easy and good! Healthy also. A winner all around.
Got some crocheting done today- the second pocket is almost done and ready to be attached. Ginny

CJ, I'm glad you were able to find the vacuum you were looking for a didn't have much of a problem at the store either. We don't have a Costco here just a SAm's club. We haven't been there in a very long time. I'm glad, too, that you were able to get the groceries you needed and are now set for awhile. Now you can sit at home and enjoy the upcoming Christmas movies and your quilting. No I really can't buy more yarn. Seriously, you wouldn't believer the amount of yarn I have.
GInny, well even though fabric didn't call your name at least you got a good book to add to your quilting collection and the thread you need. I, too, have a Charge2 fitbit and they used to send me weekly reports in email but suddenly stopped doing that awhile back. Mine also doesn't really seem to stay charged as long as I thought it should.
Sue, my feet and hands are always cold because of Raynaud's. I think the others here have it too. If your toes start to have weird red or white spots and feeling like you have a painful itch, you probably have it too.
The neighbor brought over more food today. One of the things that was in there are some plums. Even if I did go to a store I wouldn't have bought plums because they're expensive so I'm happy to have these. The only bad thing is that we're getting overrun with food. I don't know how to tell him without hurting his feelings.
I'm now in the middle of the second repeat of the 19 rows so am making good progress.. ON the pattern she says that two more repeats of that 19 will bring it to 72 inches. I have my doubts but I don't want it that long anyway.
Ginny, I don't even remember what the yarn what yarn I ordered from Joann's now. Yesterday I got one skein from them. I don't know what happened to the rest. I don't seem to be having very good luck with my online ordering lately.I don't think I ordered either Scarfie or heartland.

Ruth, that is so sweet of your neighbor to give you food- I wonder if he notices that you and Dh do not get out very much and wonders if you are eating well. My Ds usually eats plums, they are not my favorite but I do not mind them. Perhaps you can bake with them or freeze them (after pitting, of course). Do not know what I would do with a lot of them...enjoy them though!!! Yes, of course you will make the shawl as long as you think is appropriate- based upon the height of the recipient. Can you trace your order from Joanns?? I know they shipped mine strangely- but I figured it was based upon which warehouse the items were coming from. Perhaps that is how it is with your order. Overall I was very very happy with their online ordering and will wait for good coupons or free shipping. I was diagnosed with Raynauds many years ago. Usually for me if manifests itself in my hands- I can have one hand normal temperature, and the other ice cold. I rarely have problems with it though
CJ- early this am I went to the store to get my “free” turkey and a few items to fill in the meal. I confess, I checked for canned carrots (needed green beans, so I was in that aisle) and your Dixie bowls. Both were available- not extremely well stocked (the whole row back was not well populated) but if I was buying for you, I could have gotten what you want. Perhaps you can get cat treats for me??? Ha ha ha.
Just gotta sew the pockets on the pocket shawl and give it to Dd. I decided to make it for her...she is always cold. Have a great day G
