This is a thread devoted to those in their 50s & 60s and beyond who don't have children or grandchildren but live rich, full lives. Please feel free to join our stroll thru life and come back often for support and to share. ************************************************** It’s Mickey Mouses’s Birthday 🥳. His film debut was November 18, 1928.
I watched the Mickey Mouse Club with Annette Funicello and had the Mickey Mouse ears.

Becky, I am glad your knees felt a little better. Still tired? Cats! They are amusing in their choice of sleeping spots. I had one that would sleep on my sweaters on a shelf in the closet and another one that would jump in the drawer of a dresser. Both got locked in on numerous occasions.
Linda, fantastic Christmas present. It will be nice to see everyone. My DB and family hate to video chat. I tried it once with them and they were so awkward. Iggy’s family loves it and they do it all the time. I like it if I know it is happening and my hair is combed and I have decent clothes on. 😁
Waving to the rest of the crew.
I went Krogering this morning. People are shopping early for Thanksgiving. It was packed. The paper towels, tissues, and TP were wiped out. The veggies were nice and fresh and a whole pineapple was only a $1.47. I picked up some cabbage. I am going to try making sauerkraut with caraway seeds.
Have a good Wednesday.

Not a fan of video chat either. But not many to chat with. Nice for holidays. Not real excited about Alexia...probably will not have it in most of time . Got a lot of learning to do.I guess you can tell it to add to a grocery list on your phone. Never used phone for that. I just use phone as phone ! Luddite? DSIL likes having it pull up five star recipes to follow in kitchen.
am I the only one these days who uses a road map or prints things?
Glad we kept getting paper stuff every trip to Costco this summer while it was plentiful. figure I can stack tp in one of the closets after floor is done and get it out of the garage! Getting so you cannot get to shelves or anything you need out there.
actually can stay home with nobody coming today. Read paper in bed with coffee and dog.
We are still in 90s...10 degrees above normal sucks. It was nice for a bit. Summer will not die. Cooler Saturday...hope that continues.
late afternoon we will move Bob's man cave chair into the big bedroom for tomorrow. And put drops over everything there and tape to three big bookcases they will walk past. Not his bedroom...do that in early morning. I hope they do not have to grind down cement cracks to make floor even...very dusty, No idea when they will come, depends on if they finished the Wed work...hoping for early and gone!
I guess I will wrap gifts for three grand nephews and nieces to leave with the pie and cranberries in case we or they get sick Christmas.

Linda, I hope the workmen come and go quickly. I hate strangers in the house even before COVID. Glad you stocked up.
Our county has an infection rate of 14.8%. Boy, did I get it wrong yesterday. The county health dept. has issued a Stay at Home advisory starting Thursday meaning you should only leave home for work, medical treatment and essential needs. I plan to still go for my haircut tomorrow at 3:30 pm.

Thanks for the start, Chele. How are you feeling today? Sorry you had to aggresively treat your weather-related symptoms. I still have a scratchy throat and originally attributed it to having to talk through 2 meetings on Monday evening. Maybe not. It's even colder this morning than yesterday and it's dry, so that doesn't help my symptoms. I heard you were under a curfew starting tomorrow. There goes your wild night life😎. Happy Birthday, Mickey Mouse! I remember Annette, Cubby, Bobby, and the gang and also had a pair of ears. Was everyone on their best behavior at your busy Kroger? That's a cheap pineapple! Good luck with the homemade sauerkraut. I'm anxious to see how it turns out. I will stop next Monday at Publix and Food City and I guess I should be prepared for crazy. I am also not a fan of video chats and hate doing Zoom meetings where I have to lead the meeting. I would consider a hair cut essential. Sorry your positivity rate is worse than ours. I wish we had a stay at home order, but Dale and I are pretty much doing it anyway. My Osteo numbers are so much better when I am also going to the gym twice a week that I feel that is essential for me. I do miss going to TJ Maxx and I don't think I have been there since before Covid.
Linda, it's amazing that you're still experiencing such heat. Congrats on the stellar dental check. Will the snowbirds be required to quarantine for 14 days when they arrive, or is that to much to hope for, given who your governor is? Nice early gift. I hope it will result in more communication with Bob's family. I have no doubt you'll be able to figure Alexia out without a problem. I have been using a grocery list on my phone for about 5 years and I love it. I always have my phone with me anyway. I've used about 3 different ones and right now I use the free version of Buy Me A Pie. Dale uses a regular list and I'm sometimes not good about adding things to the written list when he is going shopping becase I'm so use to putting it on my phone. Be careful moving that chair! I hope you get everything ready for tomorrow and also get lots of time to relax today.
Why have you been so tired lately, Becky? I hope you aren't coming down with something. Too funny about your kitties and their sleeping preferences lately. I heard the El Paso County judge last night and things sound so bad there. How is Bastrop County?
Kathy, 70s are cool compared to where you've been. I finished Season 3 of The Crown and there were a lot of events that I had totally forgotten about until I saw them on the show, such as the Aberfan disaster. I wish our positivity rate was as low as yours. Is your governor implementing anything to make that happen or is it just a happy accident? Bars trying to skirt the rules can definitely cause a huge impact. I think our governor needs to walk back some of the things that are permitted here. The times I am going to the gym there's only a handful of people at either facility, so I feel safe there and always wear a mask. I really need to go to Target tomorrow and I'm not sure how crowded it will be. Better now than closer to Christmas, however.
How are things going this week, Liz? Have you requested your time off next week?
Denise, I heard about the election mess there that the election board initially split on whether to certify the election. For having no issues of fraud, this has been a very messy election. We had frost this morning, so I'll bet it was very chilly there.
I just heard that Dolly Parton donated $1 million in April for the Moderna vaccine development. Go, Dolly! I spent a couple of hours on MG things this morning, did 3 loads of laundry, and baked a kabocha squash and a spaghetti squash. This afternoon I plan to make 3 more masks--2 with flannel liners. It is supposed to be below freezing in the morning, so that might feel good. I still need to figure out what I'm wearing, since I'll need to dress in layers. That time of year!

Chele, thanks for the start. I remember going to Disney for the first time and getting some Mickey Mouse ears. I don't remember watching the Mickey Mouse Club, but we used to watch The Wonderful World of Disney. We haven't had a run on paper products here as of a few days ago, but I haven't shopped this week yet. Not really a fan of video chats either. Thanks for the link to the space calendar. I knew the launch was coming, but was waiting on the local station to break in. I was puttering around in the kitchen and didn't notice that they just put a trailer up instead of actually showing the launch. Usually they show the launches live, but I guess there are too many of them now. When it lifts off, I have a few seconds to go out to the front door or garage before it gets up high enough to see it from here.
Linda, I use my Echo/Alexa for all kinds of things like news, sports, weather, reminders, lists, shipping and delivery notifications from Amazon, timers, alarms, streaming music and Sirius XM, games (mainly Jeopardy) and answering questions similar to Google. It's handy to ask what's on TV tonight or what channel is the FSU football game on. I have it connected to WW and can ask it to log points. They have a skill called the Flash Briefing where you can set up what news sources you want. Then you just ask for your Flash Briefing and you get the updates from the sources you've chosen. You can get clips from the late shows as well as all the major news networks and local networks. When I was working, I'd ask her how my commute was and she would tell me how long it would take, if there was any heavy traffic and alternate routes.
I do like paper maps though. It's just easier to see everything at a glance, rather than trying to
scroll and zoom in/out. I don't print much anymore and rarely write a check. I'm pretty well stocked on paper goods and cleaning supplies, so not worried about that. Karen, it was 71 in the house this morning, so almost heater weather, lol. It's nice to have it cool in the house for a change. They said our county numbers are "concerning" and they may have to impose some restrictions if they keep climbing. I don't really trust the numbers coming out of Florida, but they're saying the positivity rate is rising and is at 9.5% for the past week. The numbers have been rising since DeSantis lifted most restrictions a few weeks ago. Waving to everyone. Have a good day.

Linda, that is so disappointing especially after all the work and anticipation. I hope they get it to you sooner.
Kathy, today’s NASA videos was the space walk of the cosmonauts. Maybe Floridians haven’t gone into hoarding mode, but since we are surging hard people are panic buying again.
Karen, if you feel the gym is essential to your health and you feel it is safe to work out, go for it. We are cold here as well, not even 50° but we expect 60s tomorrow with more gusty winds. I passed one man our age with his mask pulled down under his chin. I turned my back to him until I was past him and then rushed down the aisle. No problems at checkout this time. I used to buy Kroger’s Private Selection 100% Wheat Bread before I started baking. Pre Covid it was $1.99 per loaf. Today I noticed the regular price is now $2.50 and it was on sale for $2.19. I hadn’t realized it went up so much.

Thanks for the start Chele.Happy Birthday Mickey.I am beginning to think it's the wind and maybe the 2nd walk that tires my body out.Cats are so funny. Before I bought the second bed Marcy would take turns sleeping in the first one with KK.Now she doesn't care for either one.KK on the other hand has used both since I put them in different places.Marcy would rather sleep on the seat of the recumbent bike or in her box if she isn't on me.
Linda I hope you get cooler soon. That's too warm this time of year for me.
Chele In TX the counties don't have the final say so.Any orders are not supposed to supercede the governor's orders. However Travis County and the Austin mayor pretty much do what they want about sheltering in place.
Karen I have no idea why I've been so tired.I do well to sleep 7 hours but that's never bothered me before. It's more my body so maybe walking 2 times a day is a little too much but it's been too beautiful to stay in the house.Last I heard Bastrop County is doing pretty well. The last time I saw a number on our local FB page we had just over 105 active cases.El Paso County is really suffering. They have sent some of the people to south Austin hospitals who have things other than COVID. Did you hear the Longhorns have to cancel their game with Kansas this weekend? It's because Kansas has Covid cases. The Aggies don't play either because of active cases. We have been in the 30's the last 3 mornings but it warms up in the 50's by 9:00.I think we are only expecting a low in the 50's in the morning.

cats are a force unto themselves.
go for it on the masks. My friend really loved her Holiday mask..mailed it. DSIL happy about the flannel.
watched that MM club event day!
Our rate is 10.1. Not happy. Quarantine for snowbirds is recommended but not required and they are from. Midwest red state virus deniers.
Our gov. After 19 days of hiding still did not mandate masks...now in the minority. Did not restrict business further or schools which are mostly ignoring the guidelines. Slow learner wedded to chamber of commerce. Did not certify president vote yet. The attorney general for AZ did and the head of elections is getting death threats. Virus is starting to rise rapidly in county which thankfully maintains masks whereas most other parts of AZ dropped it
That us why I am so anxious for floor done and people gone...that and my bedroom looks like a bunker and the desk stuff is scattered...hunted for stapler today.I have a tiny area between piles of stuff in the dining room that is now my desk.
boy did it get dark fast today!
dinner was eggplant marinara casserole.used the little Japanese eggplants from my yard..it actually thrived this summer! Had a spinach/roasted squash/apple/cheddar/pecan salad. With apple balsamic dressing.
www.myrecipes.com/recipe/eggplant-marinara-pasta-casserole. Cheated and used Rai marinara with a little red wine.
