Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Same today as yesterday. Tomorrow will change, with snow and rain coming.
Gareth, both my stylist and the owner of the salon said that between all the stress I have been under this year, and the virus, they have been seeing and hearing of people loosing their hair. We did not go into what I could do to stop it. Yes, she was able to color it, I did not get a highlight, I think I will just pass that by from now on. I think that is a good idea, about ordering out; they can come here, and I would just have it delivered, using one of the delivery services. That remote would be driving me nuts! I wonder what the issue is?!!
Robin, I am sorry you won't be going, and getting away. Sometimes that is important. I had to laugh when you said you spent more at Costco than the cost of the Hotel!!! Your prices for the holiday dinner per person is high. Around here it is more reasonable than that, but I had thought our prices were high, compared to what it costs to make it all. I too love the white meat, I swear I could eat chicken breasts every day! I am going to keep my mouth shut about the virus in the WH, as I know I would go off on the other HUGE issue going on there, so I will pick a lock.
Carol, yes, I am excited to get the info about the brick. It is not too expensive, and like I mentioned, I have that money set aside anyway. I wanted to do something, to honor DH and his life, so this sounds just what he would have wanted. You reminded me that DH had that issue with one of the remotes we were using last summer, his touch just could not turn it on or off, so he would give it to me to work. I had forgotten about that one, just exactly as you described. Weird isn't it? I am having Thanksgiving here, but I am not worried, as I have been around my family all fall, and the experts are saying to keep the group under 10, and we will have 9. I will be in my kitchen supervising, and going to have each family their own serving utensils, and each family will have their own seating group. I love that my apartment is so big that I can arrange things to work out as we need it. After everyone goes home I will go behind them to disinfect everything they touched. Not sure if I am still immune. We have finally gotten used to not hugging when we greet each other, which was so hard to do with the grand kids.
Hi Pinky, Anngie, and Marsha.
Running to the grocery store this morning to get all the last minute things for Thursday, glad I am going today, not tomorrow as they are calling for snow in the morning, then turning to rain later.
I got my tree decorated yesterday, I think it looks good, if not, too bad. Today and tomorrow I will do the apartment cleaning, then I will put out the rest of the Christmas decorations. So that will be done, and everyone can see how it will look here for Christmas, since I am sure we will not be doing anything here during the Christmas holiday, and I am good with that.
We are getting closer and closer to having the vaccine. I will be in the line of elderly as soon as I can get there. I wonder how they will do that, with the elderly? I suppose it will be the nursing homes first, after the front line workers.....
Time to get this show on the road....have a nice day everyone.

Another nice day in SD!!!! We are expecting rain tonight and into tomorrow morning.
Karen---That is great you have your tree up already. I have always waited until after Thanksgiving but I think this year I will see if DD wants to help me set it up the day after Thanksgiving since I am not supposed to do much lifting yet. I put up a pretty one on the main floor and kind of a rustic one on the lower level. If we get too busy with other stuff if she can help me with the trees, I will have DH bring the totes out with decorations later on. That is what I was thinking with your hair loss it was from stress. Alopecia leaves more bald spots in different areas of the head and then can get quite bad from there. A dear friend of mine actually had that close to 1o years ago----she had these bald patches about the size of a quarter in different spots. She went to a dermatologist and he gave her a prescription she took orally and a steroid she used on the bald spots to promote hair growth to those spots.
Yes it will be a busy week----preparing for Thanksgiving and DD's family stay. I am not doing an abundance of cleaning because I'm learning afterwards I have to clean again with all the grandkids here but will want to dust and clean the bathrooms. I am going to try to prep more food ahead of time so it is not so much on T-Day and instead of being tired I can enjoy it.
I start physical therapy again today for my back and hip area.
HI to all!!!

My official WI Saturday morning I was down 1.1 which shocked me as just 2 days before I was up a bunch. But Saturday’s weight put me .1 below the top of my healthy weight range which I had set as my goal so I got on chat with WW and got reinstated as free lifetime. Whoopee! Now to keep that weight from creeping up so I can stay free, and to get down at least another 5 on a consistent basis, maybe 10 but I think that is unlikely.
Karen – I did get a few things done this weekend. I got 3 masks made but one is too small. I went to Kohl’s and made my returns and didn’t come away with anything new. And I went to Target and spent a bunch of money. I made split pea soup and chocolate bites. DH cleaned the bathrooms. He doesn’t usually do much cleaning but every now and then he volunteers to do a bathroom or vacuum the family room. And we finished The Americans. Very good series but I’m glad it’s done. I couldn’t take any more of it. Love the idea of donating a brick to the zoo in memory of DH. I think you are probably still immune. Recent studies seem to indicate that immunity lasts longer and that those recurring cases were the outliers. Did you get an antibody test?
Carol – I’m glad you found someone you feel like you can trust to fix the shower.
Robin –so sorry about ds’ car. What a shock to go out and see that! I saw your post about buying cranberries and it reminded me I wanted to pick up a bag for the freezer so I checked the grocery store to add them to my list and they are very expensive this year. I don’t know why, I didn’t hear anything about crop problems, but I’m not going to buy them. Usually they are about 99 cents at Thanksgiving and they have them at $2.50. I’ll stick with the cans. My family likes that better anyway. Sorry you had to cancel your trip but at the same time I’m a bit relieved. In the course of your small paragraph you went from I’m not cooking to cooking most of the meal. I found that funny!
We haven’t been to the Y since February but I am still paying monthly. They haven’t figured out yet that dd doesn’t work there, or maybe they did figure it out but are afraid of increasing our fees right now. In any event, the reason I’m still paying is because of that discount and if they do raise it I will drop the membership until the pandemic ends. DH really misses the pool but so far he hasn’t felt like it is safe to go. I think he probably could be safe, he could pick a time when it isn’t busy. You need to make a reservation so he would know how many people are there. And only swimmers are allowed in the locker rooms so he would probably be safe there too.
We only like white meat turkey but I’m making a whole turkey. Not real sure what I’ll use the dark turkey for. Maybe friend rice or cottage pie. Or turkey soup. Does anyone have a good recipe for turkey soup?
We didn't get hold of ds last night to hear about the wedding. Last we heard was from ddil's mother when I texted her to wish her well on Thursday. She said they were down to 140 guests so far and she wished they would have waited until it is safe. I think they are in a hurry to have kids. DS and ddil are supposed to get tested today.
DD got tested last week and came back negative, then she got picked for the random testing they are doing on campus. (I think that is because contact tracing isn't working). She will go again Wednesday for a test and she will get paid $10. We are picking her up around lunchtime so we can be home by mid afternoon. I hope to bake pies. Yes, we are having just 3 or maybe 5 for Thanksgiving and still I have to make apple and pumpkin pies, and chocolate tarts. I'm going to make just 6 tarts instead of 12, and that is if I can find the shells. If not dd will just have to live without them.

Karen, I wonder too about the immunity but with all the unknowns yet with the virus I'm not taking any chances. I've heard now of several people that have gotten it again.
Pinky, take it easy and don't overdo! So true there's always more cleaning to do afterwards.
Marsha, WTG on the weight loss!!
I went to Walmart first thing. Love going then before it gets busy. TP aisle is still pretty bare with signs limiting to one. The last couple of weeks there hasn't been any canned mushrooms. When I stopped at Fareway coming home they were well stocked with mushrooms. A sign limiting purchases in the TP aisle too but their shelves weren’t quite as bare as WM.
Looks like I'll get another day in walking outdoors but that'll end tomorrow. Rain/snow moving in tonight into tomorrow. I have a dental appointment for a cavity tomorrow morning. Hoping the weather isn't bad enough that I'll have to cancel. It's supposed to be windy too to make it even worse.
We never have done a lot of decorating for Christmas but when we did it was only a week or two before and came down the following day if not before. Yes, I've been known to take them down Christmas night. Last year was the first year in awhile we even decorated and that was because DS and family wanted to do Christmas here instead of their place like we'd always done before. A friend had a video clip on FB of her house after decorating. An 18' tree in their great room. I lost count of how many other trees there were in in about every room. A LOT of other decorating in every room too even all the bathrooms.

When I went to Target there was no Bounty. The entire aisle was empty on the side that usually has bounty. But they had Charmin. We didn't need any as we have a few packages in the basement but dh convinced me to buy a package anyway, so I bought the biggest package they had and I think we are all set for toilet paper for the duration of this pandemic! (Of course, that's what I said last March and we all know how that worked out!).

Karen, I think it's great that you started to decorate for Christmas, I am sure that will put you in a positive mood. I know I love seeing Christmas decorations. I can't imagine what my house would be like, and what kind of collections I would have, if I celebrated Christmas. One of the china patterns I have is a Spode pattern with fruits and vegetables on it. I ended up with a lot of it, so use it for those big holidays, and even now when just the kids come over, but I think I will take out either that or my Wedgewood for Thanksgiving.
Pinky, enjoy your Thanksgiving, don't work too hard. Good to prep in advance. I have, in the past, started by chopping onions, celery, that kind of thing, and putting them into Tupperware. I do as much prep as I can in advance. Even make some things that can just be reheated. I think I am the queen of advanced cooking/freezing, when it comes to big holiday celebrations.
Marsha, I am really hoping that you are safe seeing your DS & DDIL. Good that you will go pick up DD. I think I paid $1.69 for the cranberries. I think it's been a few years since it was 99 cents here. I just looked at the prepared foods menu from our local market, and think I am going to tell DH that I am going to order sides from them, maybe even veggies. I can definitely get the stuffing, maybe candied sweet potatoes, creamed spinach, butternut squash soup, and dessert. If he wants to make cornbread to have, that's fine. I can keep the cauliflower, they seem to really last. I know that the prime rib will last us more than that one meal, which will be good.
Karen, other than buying the new stainless steel, some of the other big amounts were for filet mignon steaks, that are in the freezer now, a Korean beef that I am going to make tonight, and that rib roast. I realized that I forgot I bought shrimp cocktail, so let's see when I can have that! The thing was, the hotel room, really a time share, was, for the area, very inexpensive. So even for the 4 nights with taxes it was under $500. However, for the dinner out for Thanksgiving I will bet we would have ended up spending close to that because we would add drinks, wine, and a tip to an expensive meal, more than that take-out was. I was thinking off adding cranberry sauce to my take-out order, but that totally does not make sense with prime rib. Restaurant food is definitely more expensive around here. Even if I just get burgers and fries from a local pub it ends up costing about $30.

DS and DDIL decided not to come. We are sad since we haven't seen them in so long, but feel it is for the best. DDIL still wants to go see her mom who doesn't live as far away, but that makes me nervous. Her mom has some problems and DDIL is not sure how careful she has been with masks and social distancing. We hope to see them at Christmas. I guess we'll have to see how everything is then.
I still will be fixing a whole turkey, too. I may make a turkey pot pie with some of the leftovers. That is what my mom used to do. Marsha, I need to find a soup recipe, too.
I woke up early with a migraine. I took my meds and went back to bed. My headache is better, but not gone. I guess this has turned into a day off. I didn't have much planned except PT which I was able to change to tomorrow. I was going to do some house cleaning, but it will wait until tomorrow.
I wonder if all 140 people showed up at the wedding.
Karen, the brick is such a nice idea. I've noticed there are benches in several parks here that are in memory of people.
We don't decorate much anymore for Christmas. We have a few things we put out. This will be the third year in a row we will go to DDs. This year should prove to be fun since DGS is almost 3. I have a couple of friends who go all out with decorating. One of them has a tree of some sort in every room. We were never like that.

Good thing I decided to look over my Costco receipt, I totally forgot that I bought King Crab and Corn Chowder, to have for Thanksgiving. I was going to order another soup. Of course you now know I am studying my receipt. Marsha, I took your suggestion and tried the beer batter cod. I will make that for us in the Air Fryer from our Instapot, which I now realize is really and Instant Pot.
Carol, I know I have been at various Walmarts around the country, and even in Canada, and they are really nice stores, but the one near me is terrible so I never go.

I stopped at 2 smaller markets at lunch and did not find the graham cracker tart shells at either one. DD likes chocolate pie filling in those. I don't think they carry them at the regular grocery store we use and I don't want to start running around to walmart etc. Does anyone have an idea for a way to make those little tart shells? Or do you think pie filling in puff pastry would be good? I did find cranberries for 99 cents so I grabbed a bag and I'll freeze them.

Karen, that’s a great idea DD had to buy a brick in memory of DH! I think he would be so happy about this! Are they expensive? I’ve seen many commercials about Rogaine and I’ve often wondered if it really works. Do you know anyone who has used it - or any generic brand for that matter? I’m glad, too, that your Christmas tree is up and decorated! It can’t help but to bring a smile to your face and memories.
Pinky, same here, our tree goes up soon after Thanksgiving. It’s my turn to have Thanksgiving this year - and we’re down to 8 people! I hope therapy went well for you!
Marsha, congrats on the weight loss - and free lifetime! Hope DS & DDIL test negative. I know what you mean about series. Sometimes that’s the reason I don’t start them. It’s not that they’re not good, I just get bored and then just wait for it to end!
Gareth, I ran into a WW employee who was laid off in March. She said it was possible that they wouldn’t be reopening any of the local meeting sites! That’s so sad! That means they would no longer be “bringing the meetings to the people” I guess. No one around here is going to drive 45-50 minutes to attend a meeting.
Carol, sorry you won’t be seeing DS & DDIL. It is what it is, but I’m not convinced this is all for the best. Wouldn’t it have been just the four of you? Same here - one tree is enough, but I really do like decorating that one tree.
Robin, was it the Spode that you got pieces from your DM? Sorry to see you’re not going to MA for Thanksgiving, but if both of you aren’t going to be happy going, I guess you might just as well stay home! Do you think you might get a surprise visit from one of your sons and DDIL after all? Hey, you never know!

Marsha, I just saw your last post. I’d prefer the puff pastry, actually. Do you have a tart pan or large muffin pan? I think you would just crush the graham crackers and add melted butter until it’s all moist and then press/line the tins with the mixture. I’ll bet Pinterest will tell you! lol

Anngie - thanks for the tip. Ya know, I had a muffin pan, now that you mention it - dh borrowed it this summer to sort nuts and bolts for a project and never returned it. i should order one right now from amazon. I should have one in the house anyway.
