Audrey I have never heard of dry brining. I do not remember if it was a turkey or something else that R brined. But I think he used a brine solution. Sounds like your preparations are falling into place.
Tomorrow I will check if we have some baked turkey inthe freezer. If not, then, we have to decide if we are baking a breast or whole turkey.. I would not exclude steak or ham though.

Thanks for the start June. Tomorrow we will shop then just come back home. Hopefully it won't be a zoo out there.
Audrey 4 pm is a much better time. Like June never heard of a dry brine.
June hope you find turkey in your freezer.
We have a turkey breast that we will enjoy along with all the trimmings.
My favorite is the turkey sandwich the day after.

We are also going shopping at Walmart. I already know it will be a zoo. Thinking of getting most of what I can there so HEB won't be such a long trip on Wednesday. Kenneth doesn't like turkey so I may have to find a boneless ham steak or something.
Have a good day all.

Hi June, Audrey, Ann, Becky and all who follow.
As I mentioned yesterday, we are having venison for Thanksgiving dinner. It's very likely that venison was served at the first Thanksgiving. Tomorrow will be busy at work due to the short week and then I want to bake oatmeal/peanut butter/pumpkin biscuits for Lily and Frankie. I will be meeting Lily mid afternoon on Wednesday before bringing her home. Based on both the weather forecast and because Lily will have only been here a few hours, we cancelled the casino on Thanksgiving. Football and card games may be a better choice.

A dry brine is a combination of baking powder and salt you sprinkle on a cleaned dry turkey like itβs raining on the skin. It helps the skin be crisp and tasty. He suggests 2 T baking powder and 6T kosher salt on a very large turkey and adjusting for smaller sizes. I use less salt than he recommends. He is Kenji Lopez Smith, author of Serious Eats. Monday night we had delicious turkey our son brought to us. His wifeβs client gave her a 28 pound turkey and he made it three different ways. The turkey breast could feed 20 people. We were given two wings my favorites as well as a thigh and leg.

Ann There probably are pockets of time when the stores are less crowded. . . But who knows when that is? Hope you find the sweet "spot."
Becky Hope you all that you need tomorrow. Ham is always a good choice in my book. Goes well with so many sides and desserts.
Audrey Nice that you received part of the turkeythat your DS prepared.
Susi How will you prepare the venison? My SIL also likes to spend Thanksgiving at a casino, but is passing on her tradition this year, too.
Have a good night everyone. Sleep well.

I will: track every BLT on ITB
Scale: <174.6>
Battery on car was dead again this morning SO hubby will need to take it or have someone come after he has it jump started tomorrow. We cannot be on the road today due to the lock-down stating your days to drive being based on the last number of your license plate SO we can drive M/W/F. We have red beans for lunch and my husband will make his with onions and tomato sauce and I probably will make some similarly but with more of a chili feel...maybe? I might have mine on rice or a potato.
MJ: Hope Toots feels better every day. Sorry you are tired even after a good night of sleep.
JUNE: I hope you managed to get everything on your day's to-do list...done! I hope the diet coke perked you up to continue working on the to-do list! I will eagerly await hearing what your Thanksgiving menu includes.
ANN: Glad you can enjoy being home on a rainy day! LuLa has turned the paw-bath into pampering...she may drag you to the basin requesting it from now on! Glad she is doing better.
LADONNA: How great to have only two days of work this week! Glad you were able to speak with your moother even if not in person - had this vision of you outside under an umbrella in the rain talking to your mother THEN wondered if nursing homes would create a covered area outside each room for families to come visit through the window with family
AUDREY: I think my husband will opt for a rotisserie chicken next time we go out or perhaps we can pick up some cheese and I will make him a pizza. I will see what he wants and provide it. Since I am pretty much vegetarian now he hankers after animal protein so am guessing that is what he will want. Too bad the site won't let you copy and paste using your phone I have heard of brining poultry but not dry brining...interesting - looked it up and it sounds like it would be a good idea. How nice to have leftovers from your son to enjoy before Thanksgiving!
SUSI: I can't wait to hear how Lily and you get along once you have her home with you. Interesting they took her camping before sending her to her fur-ever home...maybe they want to keep her! I am sure staying home with Lily will help her adjust...I have been to a casino one time for Thanksgiving - a buffet - and was overwhelmed!
BECKY: Your weather sounds confused...ours is like that at times. I don't' envy you the many trips to grocery stores! I hope that eventually your knee will be pain-free.

June - Hope you find your turkey in the freezer. Since this is a less tender cut, I will make it into a chili which will perfectly suit the forecast. Audrey - I have heard of dry brining but you are the first person I know to actually do it. Hope you got a good night of sleep An Becky - Sorry you need to make so many trips. Hope you manage between the crowds. Around here 6-7 a.m. is an ideal time to shop. Cathy - Hope you can get the car started. www.facebook.com/pawzabilitiespa If you scroll down to November 11th, you will find Lily's story

Gooooood morning
Ann Hope you did find the sweet spot, too.
Cathy Red beans with a chili or taco sauce would be perfect over rice or with a soft pota. Hope that your DH has good luck with the his trip to town.
Ha ha ha. . . I have no idea exactly what is frozen. However, I am commiting to using up frozen bits & pieces.
susi
Thanks! Will try to look at Lily's story later. LOL There is only the smallest doubt that some kind of baked poultry in broth is down there. It is more of a search and rescue mission situation. And then it becomes an identification siruation. Does it have an vegetables w/ it. R was in charge of some freezing tasks. He likes to keep it interesting?

Good morning, June - Audrey - Ann - Becky - Bee - Susi - Cathy - LaDonna - Pam - and AWF!
Prayers continue for you and your loved ones, and thank you for your prayers for me and mine...
Extra prayers for any in the path of fire and storm(s)... and a few extra for all students whether IRL, virtual, or hybrid...
Our township schools went all-virtual yesterday, until at least 1/19/2021. And I'm happy to report that both the Kressling and K'ling2 made honor roll for the first marking period, most of which was virtual, both prefer the hybrid model.
ππ΅ππ΅ππ΅ππ΅π
Toots is feeling MUCH better - one more thing for which I am grateful, heading into the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. He's going to keep drinking (that sounds so scandalous, LOL).
There's no update on Laraine, so we'll operate on the theory that no news is OK news. Please keep the prayers going. NOTE: her DD has her office at Laraine's house (while her home's being renovated) and the DGKids (hybrid schooling) were also going there on the virtual days. Don't know if there's any change in that, this week. But if at least Lori keeps going there, Laraine is not totally on her own with just the cat.
Our Zoom YM staff meeting was interesting. A couple of people had tech difficulties, and I ended up calling our Financial Officer and putting him on speakerphone so he could talk to the meeting (that I had on my Kindle). We are waiting for the days after Thanksgiving; we are pretty much all of the opinion that any more restrictions for Thanksgiving would result in anarchy, but that there may be restrictions coming out AFTER T-day for at least early December (one of our cities, Newark, has a 10-day shelter-at-home directive in effect beginning today).
I couldn't fall asleep last night, the first time in a long time that THAT happened. But I still feel decently-rested. We're going to pick up a couple of boxes of chocolate bars from the YM Fall fund-raiser at 9 AM. We'd like to drop one off tomorrow at CC-AL for the staff (I'll confirm whether they can accept it) and if that doesn't work then our local food pantry gets a luxury donation (and I have no angst about making the change - it's just a 2020 is-what-is). We also need to get some nuts from the farm market. We'll skip ShopRite.
Must get moving.
Coffee... βοΈβοΈβοΈ... always good to start my day...
ππ¦πππ¦πππ¦πππ¦πππ¦π Be well! Have a healthy-eating day, all! ππ¦πππ¦πππ¦πππ¦πππ¦π
