Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. 33 degrees, waiting on the snow which is expected this morning, maybe 2", then turn to rain.
Pinky, this year is a very different year, concerning my tree. Since it is a 7'5, there was no way I could get that upstairs myself, plus put it together, so I was happy to get my DBIL when I could, to come and do that for me. I did not decorate it till this past Sunday though, only because, as I mentioned, I wanted it trimmed for when the family is here Thursday. Otherwise the tradition with DH would be to do it after Thanksgiving. I have one area on the front side of my hair that you can see scalp. That has me concerned. My goodness, I will be 67 next month, how much hair would I have left if I live to say, 80? So yes, next month I will be asking my Doctor about it. As for cleaning before or after company: just bathrooms and the vacuuming and dusting before. But most of that would need to be done anyway. Our grands are older now, so they should not be making any kind of mess, knock on wood!!! How was therapy, yesterday?
Marsha congratulations!!!! That is great, and free lifetime!!!! Nice!!! I seem to be going in the wrong direction, but will be working on that on Friday. And you were busy last weekend!!! I have not been to the Y since March, right before the lockdown, and I do not miss it at all. At first I missed the pool too, and DH main reason to go there was for the hot tub, but I do not know if they ever opened that back up. I understand your dilemma, about dropping it or not. I was getting it free with my insurance, but that is changing in January. I would like to get tested for the antibody, I guess I should call my clinic to see if they do that, right? I read somewhere that people this year are focusing on more desserts for Thanksgiving than the side dishes. I don't agree with that, as the sides are an important part of the meal, to me anyway. Good luck with making your dessert, I have no input for you.
Gareth, is your area in the rain/snow? I am strongly thinking of what I can do with my DD's, and now of course my DS want to be included, for their birthday's. I do not think I would feel comfortable sitting outside for a couple hours, even with those heaters. I am sure you just can't keep it warm enough outside to feel like you are indoors. So I will get their input on Thursday. My cousin and his wife are freaks when it comes to decorating for Christmas. But she finally admitted a few weeks ago that they have way too much, as they are starting to think of soon selling and buying a condo, so all that stuff can not go with them. And they are getting older, I think my cousin is 4 years older than me, but she is my age. Their house though!!! Wow, every bit of it is decorated! I would love to see her bathrooms, because I bet they are all decked out too. No thanks, that is just way over my patience, because then you have to take everything down, and put it away.
Robin, decorating the tree is bittersweet though. I miss DH input, as I do all the work (hahaha), as to the correct positioning of some of the ornaments. It sounds like you have some beautiful dinnerware. I only have 1 set now, I had 2 but with downsizing, DD2 got the other set. I too will be making sides tomorrow, then those will go in crocks Thursday. The ham will wait till Thursday to go in the oven. I did give in and bought a ring of shrimp, with the sauce, for DD1 who loves it, but since I do not like it, have never had it here, so she will be happy. I feel sorry for her, since most of our meal is not edible for her. Your bill for burger and fries from a good tavern is about right for here too. I see the General Services Adm. have decided Biden won, and will release money for him to get his transition going in full. It's too bad that Trump doesn't think of how this will go down in history, all this pouting and fighting the loss.
Carol, I am sorry about Thanksgiving, but it may be for the best. If either of my DD's called to say they decided not to come, I would understand, I would miss them, but understand. I would too make the whole turkey, since you can use it for so many things. I am looking forward to making my turkey breast, in December. The zoo also has the benches, I did not look at the prices for those, as I am sure those are a little more expensive. All these years, the only decorating I have done was the living room. Once we moved here, I started decorating the bathrooms too. Since we have a guest bathroom I felt I should decorate it, and of course DH wanted his bathroom decorated also. So that is what I do. I can not understand having a tree in other rooms. Unless your house is huge, and you have the money to spend on all of that.
Anngie, no, I don't think the bricks are expensive, the brick and 3 lines of whatever you want on the brick is just $125. Then the cost goes up for more lines, and you can also get a small drawing etched on it too, but I am not going to do that, as I looked at all the drawings and didn't care for them. I do not know anything about the Rogaine; I will talk to my Doctor about it next month. I heard talk way back in I think April, that WW would not be going back to on site meetings at all, but I really think they eventually will. That is just such a big part of what WW has always been.
They are letting some people into the stadium this weekend for the Packers game. It is just employees of the Packers and their families. I think I heard 500 people. No ticketed fans. It is a test for future games. I think they are doing that since when they go on the road, other stadiums have fans there. I do not care what they do, it is their decision, I won't be there anyway, probably never.
Need to get a bunch of other things done this morning here, then I want to run, later to a store that has tree trimming things, as for some reason I need a tree topper. It just looks bare up there!
Have a nice day everyone.

No snow here yet but it is misty or drizzly -----a gloomy day today I'm sure>
Marsha---that is great that you have made lifetime---Congratulations!!!
Karen---You are fine, I enjoyed every bit of what you posted. Sometimes I think we have a lot to say and the next time not so much. I think whatever you have to say we like to hear it. I bet your tree is beautiful and I think you has a perfectly good reason to put it up early.
Physical therapy went well yesterday. It was more an evaluation because the Dr. had asked for them to work more on my back and right hip area. After seeing what I can and can't do and where it hurts the therapist described it in a way I really understand. She said the muscle that is so tight and hurting is best friends with the nerve affected------so when one gets angry the other one is angry to so lets just say "they are really angry"!!!! She did some simple easy stretches to get started but gentle on me----and then a very simple exercise to do at home to loosen it up. Because of the injection I had I can do them with no pain----I don't think I could have even stood to do something so simple before the injection. I am so thankful that I am continuing to improve each day-----that is one thing I am thanful for this year along with my family.
I better get busy, Hard to believe in 48 hours the turkey will be in the oven and T-day is here.
Hi everyone---enjoy your day!!!

It looks like we are down to just dh an dd and I for thanksgiving. I think ds and ddil have COVID. DS called last night to say he doesn’t feel well, feels like he has a cold. Congested, sore chest. Headache. Ddil has the same symptoms. They are hoping it’s just a cold because they did the wedding pictures outdoors and it was cold and dd’s dress was sleeveless and she was freezing, but I don’t think any of us believe that it isn’t COVID. DS was tested yesterday, already symptomatic, I expect his results will come back positive. If not, dh is going to tell him not to come anyway.
I put my turkey back in the freezer and took out a turkey breast. But now I’m rethinking that. 4 pound turkey breast 3 people, I think we’ll have one meal of leftovers, but dh had mentioned driving down to ds and leaving them dinner on the porch on Friday and we probably wouldn’t do that with just the breast, plus he wants slices for sandwiches, I don’t know what to do. My turkey is 15 pounds. Way too big. We could make it and have turkey once/week for a long time. And of course ds called while dh was at the grocery store so he already had the long list with all the extras, I would have cut down on a lot of produce and some other things that I told him to get if I’d known it was just dd and us.
Karen – don’t worry about your long post. We love it!
Pinky – so glad the PT was helpful.

Karen, no apologies! I enjoy all you have to say! Sounds like you’re all set for Thursday! How is DD doing with her weight loss?
Pinky, I’m so glad you’re getting better each day! And your right, if we have our health, we have everything! We all have something to be thankful for, don’t we. What are you taking for the pain? Is the pain you’re experiencing like being hit with a knife? That’s what mine was. I have an appointment with the surgeon to discuss having the hip replacement Dec. 21. I hope to have it in January - providing Covid doesn’t interfere.
Someone here enjoys books about bookstores. There’s a new one (I think it’s new) called The Little Bookshop on the Seine by Rebecca Raisin.
I heard that Glenn Close is staring in Hillbilly Elegy. Not sure when it comes out.

Karen, I think that price is reasonable for the brick. That is such a good idea.
Yes, it is for the best that DS and DDIL not come. No feelings are hurt, I think. Making decisions like that are just part of life right now.
Marsha, great about lifetime! Actually, your Thanksgiving for 3 sounds great. We have had a few like that. I hope your DS and DDIL don't have Covid, but you are right, it sounds like it might be. Whatever, it is I hope they are not too sick.
I went to Walmart this morning. I hope I have everything we need. I tried to check my recipes to make sure of what I had and what I needed. I don't want it to be like the Thanksgiving a few years ago when I didn't realize I was out of sage. DH and DSIL went all over looking for some. You know how most stores had the spices in alpha order? They found 1 container of sage and it was in the wrong place. They wondered if someone had done that on purpose in case they had to run home to see if they had some and then come back. It wasn't very crowded and surprisingly had plenty of check-out lines open.
I saw that on TV this morning about Glenn Close. I read The Little Bookshop on the Seine. I would give it a 3.
It is 59 degrees right now. It sprinkled on me a little while I was out. I just checked my weather app and it said rain is starting in 16 minutes and should last for 7 minutes. Hmmm, I didn't know the forecast could be that accurate.
I think the shower work should start next week.

I just had a long post and lost it-----***$#%@#
Marsha---oh no on your DS and DDIL being sick---hope it is just the cold and not COVID, hopefully they wont get to sick either way. Nice gesture to take them Thanksgiving dinner if it works out to their doorstep.
Anngie----I am on gabapentin for the nerve pain. I did have that stabbing feeling in my knee but it is quite a bit better since the injection. Still have kind of a dull backache. Glad you have a date to see the surgeon for hip replacement. Dec. 21st is not even a month away---YIKES!!! I am not sure if I was the one who said I like books about bookshops but I sort of do---I will check out that book and see. I did see that Glenn Close was on CBS but was not really paying attention to it----I did see a clip and realize now she looked not so good and like a hillbilly I realize now.
Carol----yeah on the shower work starting soon!

Busy morning getting things done around here before my dental appointment. I really don't understand why I quit going to him. I really like him. Tooth is filled. I'm good now until May when I made an appointment for teeth cleaning and a check. I got up to an inch or so of snow which is mostly gone now. It's been drizzling all morning. I finished The House Guest this morning. It was ok. Kept my interest but not one of the better ones I've listened to. Now I've started The Last Flight. So far so good.
Karen, I always enjoy your posts so don't apologize. WW started going back to onsite workshops already last July and has gradually been reopening more. Some locations were closed like where I worked because they weren't large enough to social distance. That's why here we're reopening here in a hotel/event center.
Marsha, sorry about DS and DDIL. From what you've been saying I'd be surprised if they aren't positive. Hopefully they'll have a mild case. Nice to take them a meal. I really appreciated DS having our DGC bring us a meal when we were sick.
Pinky, glad PT is going well. So true even with all that's happened this year we all have something to be thankful for.
Carol, I'm jealous your WM had plenty of checkouts. When I go early it's always just one.
Anngie, I hadn't heard about Glenn Close going to be in Hillbilly Elegy. I can't quite picture her in it so it'll be interesting to see.
Hi Robin!

Marsha, I think you are probably right, but not sure it was from the wedding, kind of fast, but definitely could be COVID, but either way no one wants to get sick. I thought the idea of making turkey pot pie was good, not sure what you should really do. Nice that DH would drive down to bring them dinner. I could always eat turkey left overs though, but I can't just on the size of the turkey.
Karen, I think $125 is a great price. I know it is common practice in other places to give money directly to the mourners, but here that's not something that is done, at least not in our circle, but we do meals, donations, that kind of thing.
Anngie, the pattern I have is Evesham, which is Royal Worcester. It started out probably 40 years ago. My sister was going to England. I told her if she could get me that for $25 a place setting, she should get me 12. She came back, said it was $26, but figured I would still want it. Then, over the years, there were different times that either my mother-in-law found a 4 place setting box at Marshall's, or I found them somewhere, or whatever. I don't have as many bowls, but I ended up with something like 23 place settings, and then 4 extra dinner plates, so I have 27. One day I might even serve that many people in my house again. I also have a lot of serving pieces to match, and those are pretty much all ones that my mother-in-law bought me from Marshall's. When we ended up shipping her stuff back from Florida after she died, we invited a cousin to take part when we were dividing things up. Don't ask, DH's idea. There were 4 ramekins in that pattern. The cousin pipes up that she wants them. I said to her "Are you kidding me, how many times have you eaten off my plates and you think you are taking those!"
Pinky, so glad the physical therapy went well. That thing about the muscle makes sense, which is probably why I think that a heating pad gives me a lot of relief. My Dr gave me such simple exercises to do for my back that seem to really help. Of course my DH does not listen to me with his back.
Carol, I know that DS & DDIL are not coming, but what about DD & DSIL? I can't keep track. Who are you having? We will just be the 2 of us.
Gareth, I really liked The Last Flight. Glad you are happy you went back to your old dentist.
I had heard about Glenn Close in Hillbilly Elegy. Although the movie is not always as good as the book, I hope this time it is.
I finished The Silent Wife last night, before mah jongg. Now on to A Time For Mercy. I am torn about whether to just sit back over the weekend, pretend I am not even home, or try to straighten up. Things are kind of a mess. I stopped at a special bakery today when I picked up our office lunch. Probably not anything we need, but things that I want. I bought a small pear tart, a blueberry crumb loaf, and a few other things. I will wrap them up well so they stay for the weekend.

Leaving work. There is a very small chance I will be here tomorrow because I'm working on getting dd a ride home. My boss' son goes to the same school and he has a car and is driving home early tomorrow. If she will be ready to leave by 8am she can go with him but she has a test tonight so she will have to pack after that. Hopefully she'll agree to go and then I won't have to go to Madison and then I can come to work. Boss thinks it's silly for dh and I to drive 5 hours if she can come home with him. I agree.
In case I'm not here - I hope you all have a wonderful and safe thanksgiving. We may not be celebrating like we would like, but we have each other and that is something to be thankful for.

I probably missed Marsha on here, but for anyone else who is busy tomorrow, Happy Thanksgiving.
Anngie, I think I decided I will take out dishes that I have from my mother-in-law that I never use. They brought a set of Heutschenreuter china when they came from Germany after the war. I know they were in a retention camp for over 3 years, so I guess they were able to work there and had the money to buy it, but not really sure. They were told things like that were very expensive in the US. It has to be hand washed, so I never use it. For 2 of us, I can.
