Welcome to our 2020 Alcohol Free All The Way Board!
If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post.

ALMOST TIME TO SWITCH FROM MY DAILY ANXIETY TO MY FANCY CHRISTMAS/NEW YEAR ANXIETY OR CHOOSE ACCOUNTABILITY NEW CHALLENGE November 1 through December 31
Accountability: experiencing consequences for performance or actions. Accountability is essential for an organization, for a society, and for a person. Anxiety: a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome.
In other words, with accountability, a person will assume ownership of their own action because they will face consequences. With anxiety, a person will put enormous pressure on themselves by worry or fear.
Accountability is what we’ll call it, but think of it as both incentive and insurance. It helps to keep one in control and not let anxiety take over. The Anxiety will not get you anywhere. The holidays are coming and no amount of crash dieting or excessive eating/drinking or letting stress take over, will delay the inevitable. Establishing accountability helps us to stay the course, even when our former ways tempt us. If a little accountability is good, and more is better, then let’s go all in on this challenge. Leave the anxiety out of the equation.
What should we be accountable for in this challenge? Pick one, all, or anything in between. Feel free to add your own accountability goal and let others join you.
ACCOUNTABILITY CHOICES!
FRESH START MONDAY! What is your accountability for the week? What anxiety will you let go of?
MOVE MORE ACCOUNTABILITY Every little bit helps and definitely helps anxiety.
SLEEP ACCOUNTABILITY Have you established a routine?
NUTRITION ACCOUNTABILITY Ugly and good days Drink more water Drink your height in water….68 inches tall equals 68 ounces of water….add 8 ounce every seven days One or more fruit daily One or more vegetable daily Track nutritional intake Grocery List Share a healthy recipe Low Sugar, limit added sugar to 24 grams or less Pre lose the five pound holiday gain AF/AIM/AIE
JOURNAL YOUR NUTRITION ACCOUNTABILITY
HAPPINESS ACCOUNTABILITY
What did you do for yourself today? Motivational quote
HABIT ACCOUNTABILITY What new habit are you establishing?
CHECK IN DAILY ACCOUNTABILITY Scale of 1 -5 …how is your day going? Just say NO - not saying yes to every request will help to control anxiety.
TIME MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTABILITY Need to do, should do, want to do Organize yourself with lists. Lists can help reduce anxiety.
Let's be accountable and supportive to each other. As always no judgement, just encouragement, and if needed, tough love though we are usually toughest on ourselves. Set your accountability goals and let's get to work. Let’s be healthier versions of ourselves come January 1.

DH, DS, & I walked the nature trail, then I made a big breakfast of sausage gravy and biscuits and scrambled eggs. Then we got busy putting the tree up. It's a nine-footer and barely fits in our family room. It used to be prelit, but none of the lights work anymore. DS helped a lot with putting the lights on and both DS & DD helped with the decorating. It has been several years since DS decorated a tree, he seemed to enjoy it. Bill has already taken up residence underneath it. It's funny that he stayed away until the skirt was in place. He's pretty good about not bothering it much, we do put cat-proof ornaments on the lower branches. We didn't finish with the tree until around 6pm. Since we had turkey leftovers around 2pm, no one wanted dinner, so we played cards and had some Chex mix. I will work on getting more decorations out today, it will take a while to get it done. I'm not sure yet what I'm doing with the mantle, it's been a lot of years since we had a fireplace. We still have leftover sausage gravy, but will try to do better with the food today.
Jan- WTG getting your steps. Hope you were able to sleep later. Yay for low point leftovers. My oldest sister loves pie for breakfast.
Murphy- Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving at your sister's. At the risk of overstepping, I am echoing what Cindy said about considering counseling. I want you to have a plan in place before you retire. It seems like your slips happen when you have too much time on your hands.
GG- I'm so glad it was a wonderful Thanksgiving, even with all the noise. WTG for no A! Hope you slept better.
Cindy- Glad the game was such an awesome (craic) experience. It's nice that the nephew remembered you and you've got more leftovers. Keeping my days count has been a big incentive for me too.
Cathy- WTG AF/OP. That's a lot of olive oil. They still use Debakey forceps in the O.R. My husband is musically inclined and will be impressed with the number of instruments you play.

Countdown to retirement - 33 days!
Good Saturday morning! I've been up since 4:00 but I slept really well last night. I've been working in the kitchen and the garage getting an idea of what food I have stocked up and I feel pretty good about it. My goal was to have food stocked up so that when I retire, I don't really have to shop for much in the way of groceries. Now I'm going to get busy doing some EOM work stuff. So happy to know that these are the last I will need to do! LOL
Amy - glad you got your tree up and DS and DD were involved. Hope Bill doesn't decide to climb the tree! You and Cindy absolutely did not overstep in suggesting the counseling. You are total right that my slips happen when I have too much time on my hands. I've already been thinking about things to do when I retire.
Cindy - so happy that the game was so much fun and I love the "word of the day"!
GG - I am so happy that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with the family! I loved the pics of you with the grands!
Jan - love your tree! I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to put up a tree or not. I still have to pack up my fall decorations this afternoon!
Cathy - that IS a lot of olive oil!! You are such a talented lady!
I did have a great time with the family. We decided to eat outside so it would be easier to social distance. It was supposed to be in the upper 60's and my sister has a very large carport. It wasn't quiet that warm though but we had plenty of blankets and throws to wrap up in so we were fine. I brought home some turkey so I need to get that packaged up for the freezer. I don't care for my sister's dressing - too much sage for me - so I might try to make a little pan to enjoy later today. I still need to clean out the freezers this afternoon or tomorrow. That should keep me busy! I hope you all have a great rest of your Saturday! Murphy

ACCOUNTABILITY, NOT ANXIETY November 1 - December 31 November 1 start weight: 202.3 November 8: 202.6 November 15: 201.7 November 22: 202.2 November 29: December 6 December 13: December 20: December 27: December 31 final weight: Good Morning all. Had a good day yesterday and feel good this morning. The scale was up, as expected, will see what it is tomorrow before I record it . Lots of water and walking today, maybe a little Small Saturday Shopping. Want to get a few things to add to my friends gift boxes so I can mail those off to California and Oregon early this week. I did make my Ap goal last week, 73/60, and want to repeat that this week. The sun is shining even tho it's chilly so will make a plan to walk outside later. We had our first fire in the fireplace last night and the celebration of lights is now on at the park across the street, it was so pretty. Couldn't get motivated yesterday to drag out more Christmas, but feeling more into it this morning. see what happens. I did work a lot on my stocking and I'm now down to the foot and toe, should go fast from here. The neighbors went hunting and asked us to watch for a box being delivered. They also shared that that two timer Finn sits over at their house and waits for the daughter to come and give him some love. Scout hasn't warmed up to them yet but watches out for his brother . They love it as they lost their last cat a while back. They've offered to watch them anytime, good to know. Dh is now up so better start thinking about breakfast. Hope you all have a good weekend. Jan Amy. Glad you got the tree up, sounds beautiful. Not sure even cat proof ornaments will be safe but will try some. I plan to make some Chex mix this week, if I can keep DH from eating all the mixed nuts before I do!! Murphy. Sounds like you have a plan to stay busy today. Glad you are on your last EMO reports!! I need to clean the turkey off the bone and get some in the freezer and then maybe make up a pot of soup. GG. Glad you had a great day despite the noise. Were folks disappointed that the Steelers game was cancelled? GL at the Drs. Cathy. You were quite the musical gal!! My son played a LOT of instruments too and I wish he would get back to his piano. Maybe someday when he has a place he can have one again. I miss his music in the house. Cindy. Sounds like a Craic of a time . Not sure I used that right? . Good they split up the food, sounds like your set right up until DS bank has their Christmas Pot luck ha ha. Glad many wore masks and you got to see family. The grocery was fine yesterday, just don't go to the big box stores. I'll have to try the tangerine trick, I just see them getting rolled all around the house and I'll find one under the couch or somewhere in February!! Hi Carole, hope you're still having fun and the kids get home ok today. Will they both go back to the house together or does Ty go back to school? Hi Liz. Can't wait to hear about your Holiday.

Hi girls!
Thanksgiving was really for the first time in I don’t know how long quiet and most enjoyable! Never got to decorating, after dinner we threw the fireplace on and relaxed. I have been a slug for the past two days, binge watching Second season of Virgin River on Netflix and the Christmas Chronicles 1 and 2.
I am not sure what I am going through emotionally right now. A lot has to do with my wrist and elbow and a lot of being out of work., I think. It is a mixed up jumble. We are ok financially, it’s a lot of time on my hands and no motivation and the limitations with my arm. Then I say I have so much to be thankful for and then the guilt for feeling sorry for myself, one big circle.
I am hoping to do December BOT, fingers crossed 🤞🏽!

Well I am a sweaty mess but the food in the garage is organized and I've cleaned out the freezers. I am truly blessed to have so much and it will make me feel more secure after retirement.
Liz - I have to admit I'm a little concerned about how I'm going to handle so much time on my hands. And I don't have to deal with the issues you do with your wrist and elbow! I'm so sorry. I really think that once the baby is here and you are involved and busy with her, you will feel much more positive. What a blessing that you will be helping to take care of her and give her so much love! I'm glad that you had a quiet and enjoyable Thanksgiving! I will try to put out at least a few Christmas decorations tomorrow after church. I don't think I'll put out my big tree but I might try to put out my table top tree. I have a collection of Santas that were my Mom's and I have always put them on my mantle. I have a pretty Nativity set that Mom gave me as well but that may be the extent of this years decoration!
Now I think I'll make a hamburger for supper.

Just a check in, having some hot tea and watching some football on TV. Just what I need to put me to sleep. Surfed an urge at dinner, DH had gone to the store and I wondered what he'd bring back. 2 6 packs and I think I even felt a little disappointed but know better and without wine in the house I can get by without it easily. Just the weekend mentality. So glad he didn't buy any. Time to get my streak started for going into the next month and new year. Need about 800 steps to make my 10,000 so will probably be marching around upstairs before crawling into bed. Hope you all have had a good day.

Hi Everyone!
Just have been very tired all day with headache. Tried to nap off and on but didn't work. And it doesn't help that I kept thinking today was Sunday.
Did get Fall decorations packed away but decided to do a good cleaning before decorating. It was cold today and just didn't want to drag stuff out of the garage. We are suppose to have a freeze this week.
I have got to figure out why I have a lack of energy. Going to restart the energy booster drinks and see if that helps.
Want to chat but yawning is causing tears so heading to bed.
Hugs, Cindy

Saturday: AF - OP - Withing points - healthy food - Good day - still have 1.2 pounds to remove to get back to lowe of 174 and then head on down further.
Talked to our daughter yesterday and hope to talk to our son today. It is sunny and nice outside. Hubby is working on a waterproofing project that he hopes will keep an enclosed balcony dry and then plans to turn it into a small greenhouse. I have zucchini I want to use in a meal today...not sure WHAT I will make but do see zucchini as the main ingredient with perhaps some garbanzo beans.
AMY: I mentioned that our daughter-in-law has decorated for Christmas and my husband said perhaps we could put up the little tree...I wonder if I should put it in the dining room or little sitting room I use to read in at night? I usually put it in the dining room but maybe the little sitting room this year. How fun to have family to help put the tree up! I have never thought of myself as "musical" but rather mediocre as there were always others with more skill. That said...it always brought me enjoyment. What does your husband play?
MURPHY: Just over a month and you will be retired! The time will speed by! I am glad you were able to be with family on Thanksgiving and do so safely. Did you inventory and itemize your food so that you can work through it systematically? I hate finding expired cans or bags when going through things...later.
JAN: I am glad that your cats enjoy being out but are happy to return! How nice to have neighbors that will watch them if you need to go away. Maybe your son can get a keyboard till he has a place for a piano...what other instruments did he play?
LIZ: This time of year with holidays usually centered around family AND a pandemic AND lock-down AND so much going on but not going on in person IS harder. I hop you find something to do that will bring you joy.
CINDY: Have you felt this tired in the past? If so, could it be the same reason? I keep thinking that fatigue and headache are symptoms of covid-19 but am hoping that is NOT what is bothering you.
CAROL: What is a body exhibition...naked bodies, what to do to bodies, decorated bodies? I am curious! I am glad you are enjoying yourself and A is not a problem.
