Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning.
Sorry I am a bit late, but we are grieving once again. DSIL passed away last night. He is the one married to DD1, who had the bariatric surgery. So last night was a very long, and emotional night. He had a massive heart attack, and it sounded like while that happened, his lungs filled. Awful, just awful. So I just wanted to get this going, and let you know I won't be commenting today. Take care and keep your loved ones as close as you can.

Oh, Karen, Iโm so, so sorry this has happened. I wish there was something I can do other than to say you are all in my prayers. I canโt even imagine what your poor daughter is going through. Iโm so very sorry.

Good morning. I think the high today should be in the 40's, colder tomorrow.
I need to get back to a little of my normal routine, so here I am. Thank you all, for all of your thoughts, prayers, and condolences. Didn't we just do this? This one is hitting way harder, in some ways, as DD had maybe 15 minutes of trying to save DSIL, before he was taken by rescue squad to the hospital, and during the ride he was already coding. I worried about them; especially him all these years, as he was so heavy! DD told me that Thursday he weighed himself and was so happy that with his weight going down, it was 296, and the reason he was so happy was that he finally got under 300 pounds. Him and I had such good conversations here on Thursday, he was in such a good, and gabby mood. Most time he just sits and listens to everyone's conversations, and sometimes adds to it. DD asked for my help getting her through all of this, with the funeral home and all, so hopefully I can help her somewhat. This afternoon we are repeating the gathering of our family here at my apartment. I see my other DD, late last night started a Go Fund Me page for DD1.
So, how is everyone doing this big shopping weekend? Earlier this week I had been debating to go out to a few stores yesterday, as it was Shop Small Business Saturday. We have so many nice small stores here, I wanted to patronize some of them. But with being up most of the night Friday, I just did not have the energy yesterday. Did anyone go out shopping?
Need to run to the grocery store this morning, as I am getting low on things like coffee (I would be crying if I ran out of that!!), fruit, and maybe some appetizers for later today. I had an angel offer to sponsor our dinner with the family tonight, so that takes the worry and weight off getting that done.
Tonight ought to be interesting to see with the Pack letting around 500 fans into the stadium for the game. I don't know if you all heard, I saw it on Yahoo last night, but the Denver Bronco football team, who is supposed to play today, do not have a quarterback!!!! All of their 4 quarterbacks are out on Covid watch. The team said they will not forfeit, but probably use a wide receiver for quarterback!!!! Now that is a game to watch!!!
Time for my other cup of coffee. Have a nice day everyone.

Karen, my heart goes out to you and your family. I can't imagine what you're all going through especially your DD and DGC. So soon after your DH and with the holidays. Sending a big virtual hug!
I never shop on Black Friday or SB Sat. Like I've said before I don't do crowds especially now with covid. Now Cyber Mon I have and maybe will again this year.
I'm anxious for breakfast this morning. One of my co worker/friends shared her overnight oatmeal recipe with me that sounds good. I made one for DH too. It'll be interesting to see if he likes it. My friend and her DH love it. It called for unsweetened vanilla almond milk which I've never used any kind of almond milk before. Seeing the point count is so low has me thinking using it in other recipes I have that call for milk. Wondering though since this is vanilla flavored though. Do any of you ever use almond milk?

Thank you so much, Terry, on your donation on the GO FUND ME page!!! I think my DD was crying. The generosity she is seeing from people is amazing. They are dropping off coats, clothes, cat food, and of course meals. Thank you again, even though that barely covers it!

Karen, my heart goes out to all of you, and especially to Missy. It brought back such memories of me getting the call about my brother-in-law. I don't know how old Jeff was, but my DBIL was 47. He had heart surgery previously, but still not what anyone was expecting. That is so nice to have that Go Fund Me page for them. There is never a good time for this to happen, and I don't know why it is always around some time that you will always remember. You have certainly had a very tough year, but I know what a strong person you have been for all of this, and how close you are with your DD, so I know you will be a big part of her support system, which she really needs right now.
I have to go to a graveside funeral today for someone on the opposite end of the spectrum. The mother of a very close, old friend, was basically in a catatonic state in a nursing home the past few years, and it would have been a blessing for her to have already died, but she hung on. At least it is a sunny day and should be 55 degrees then. The only type of funeral that people we know or have heard about are having these days is graveside, with no gatherings or shiva, which is the mourning period after the funeral where people come to visit.
I did hear about the Denver Broncos, of course. The person who will quarterback was a quarterback for Wake Forest in college, so not totally inexperienced. The Jets will lose this afternoon, of course, I am sure, even with their first string quarterback in after injuries. The team is just horrible. On the other hand, we did not have to go an watch them lose all these games, or pay for the tickets. I think we did start to pay, but then they stopped charging us, so we have a credit for next year, but at this point, who even knows if that will happen.

Karen, it's good you were able to be with your DD and DSIL on Thanksgiving and have good memories of that day with him.
It is 45 right now and raining. It should get below freezing Monday night.
Robin, I appreciate your views on abortion. It's easy to say I would never do that, but you never know what will happen. One couple we know was expecting twins. A ultrasound revealed the babies were conjoined. The doctors said they would not be viable at all. The couple decided to terminate. After delivery, the doctors said they had no chance of life and it would have been a hard delivery for the mom. There were some who said the doctors could have been wrong etc. We know a couple of babie who were born very prematurely and are just fine now. The grandbaby of some friends who has all sorts of medical problems was full term with no sign of anything being wrong. I don't know, it's not black and white-always wrong, never right thing to do.
Our live-stream church started having problems about 20 minutes in. My computer is being slow so we are blaming it on the weather.
Our bathroom re-do starts tomorrow. I need to move my stuff into the other bathroom. I hope it doesn't take too long.
Karen, I feel the same way about coffee. Again, you and your family are in my prayers.
Gareth, I use almond milk. I don't even remember why we changed. I use it in baking, too, and never noticed a difference.

Gareth, you reminded me that I should make another batch of the Instapot Oatmeal. We like Steel Cut Oats, which take longer. The recipe calls for almond milk also. I use almond milk in my coffee, so always have it around.

Karen---I just can't stop thinking of you and your DD today and her sweet girls. I can't even imagine. Like Robin said you are a strong lady and you are bound to get through this but still it is so sad. I am so glad Missy has you to get her through this. I am glad you have the good memories from Thanksgiving day to remember. Hugs and prayers!!
I have just started using Almond Breeze milk. I am not a milk drinker but like it one my oatmeal and a whole grain cereal I have been eating. I did try it on cheerios one day and although I did not hate it I thought it tasted kind of funny on there
DD's family left about 1 o'clock. Hated to see them go as we had a nice weekend it is nice to have quiet again too. She helped me get the 2 trees up and some others things that require a ladder. So good!
