Welcome to our 2020 Alcohol Free All The Way Board!
If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post.

ALMOST TIME TO SWITCH FROM MY DAILY ANXIETY TO MY FANCY CHRISTMAS/NEW YEAR ANXIETY OR CHOOSE ACCOUNTABILITY NEW CHALLENGE November 1 through December 31
Accountability: experiencing consequences for performance or actions. Accountability is essential for an organization, for a society, and for a person. Anxiety: a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome.
In other words, with accountability, a person will assume ownership of their own action because they will face consequences. With anxiety, a person will put enormous pressure on themselves by worry or fear.
Accountability is what we’ll call it, but think of it as both incentive and insurance. It helps to keep one in control and not let anxiety take over. The Anxiety will not get you anywhere. The holidays are coming and no amount of crash dieting or excessive eating/drinking or letting stress take over, will delay the inevitable. Establishing accountability helps us to stay the course, even when our former ways tempt us. If a little accountability is good, and more is better, then let’s go all in on this challenge. Leave the anxiety out of the equation.
What should we be accountable for in this challenge? Pick one, all, or anything in between. Feel free to add your own accountability goal and let others join you.
ACCOUNTABILITY CHOICES!
FRESH START MONDAY! What is your accountability for the week? What anxiety will you let go of?
MOVE MORE ACCOUNTABILITY Every little bit helps and definitely helps anxiety.
SLEEP ACCOUNTABILITY Have you established a routine?
NUTRITION ACCOUNTABILITY Ugly and good days Drink more water Drink your height in water….68 inches tall equals 68 ounces of water….add 8 ounce every seven days One or more fruit daily One or more vegetable daily Track nutritional intake Grocery List Share a healthy recipe Low Sugar, limit added sugar to 24 grams or less Pre lose the five pound holiday gain AF/AIM/AIE
JOURNAL YOUR NUTRITION ACCOUNTABILITY
HAPPINESS ACCOUNTABILITY
What did you do for yourself today? Motivational quote
HABIT ACCOUNTABILITY What new habit are you establishing?
CHECK IN DAILY ACCOUNTABILITY Scale of 1 -5 …how is your day going? Just say NO - not saying yes to every request will help to control anxiety.
TIME MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTABILITY Need to do, should do, want to do Organize yourself with lists. Lists can help reduce anxiety.
Let's be accountable and supportive to each other. As always no judgement, just encouragement, and if needed, tough love though we are usually toughest on ourselves. Set your accountability goals and let's get to work. Let’s be healthier versions of ourselves come January 1.

DH, DS, & I walked at the clubhouse, then came home and had more of the sausage gravy and biscuits from the day before. Did limit myself to 1.5 biscuits, instead of 2 though. DS went home shortly thereafter. We started putting up the outside lights, I had to go out for more strands. Walmart wasn't as busy as I would have thought, but they were out of clear lights and also the entryway trees I was planning on buying. Should have bought them when I first saw them a month ago. Went on to Home Depot for the clear lights and clips to hold icicle lights on the gutter. We are mostly done with the outside other than putting up the icicle lights and putting lights on some small bushes. The neighbor across the street and her daughter came over to chat while we were outside. The daughter is about 6 and very adorable. It was a beautiful day in the 60's, it's supposed to be cold here next week, getting down in the 20's. My niece texted me about a needlepoint stocking pattern that my mom used to make stockings for all the grandkids. She wants to make one for her daughter's boyfriend. I know I have the pattern, but haven't been able to find it yet. I'll look for it again this morning. We still have turkey and fixings leftover, I think we'll make some enchiladas and freeze the rest of the dressing to have with chicken sometime.
Murphy- WTG getting your groceries organized and freezers cleaned out. Glad you slept well and had a great time with family on Thanksgiving.
Jan- WTG meeting your AP goal. The celebration of lights sounds beautiful, we want to get out some evening to see the lights in the neighborhood. Glad DH did not bring home wine. LOL over two-timer Finn. Annie was quite the social butterfly in our old neighborhood too.
Liz- Glad your Thanksgiving was quiet and enjoyable. Wishing you a BOT December. I'm so sorry you are struggling emotionally, it's been a difficult year. Hugs!
Cindy- Hope your headache is better. I've been confused about the day of the week too.
Carole- Glad you are having a nice time at home and the weather is nice. WTG doing well with A. What's a body exposition?
Cathy- WTG AF, OP, healthy food, good day. DH plays his keyboard every day. He played trombone in high school and gets it out occasionally. He also got a ukulele a couple of Christmas's ago, but hasn't done much with it.

Quote: If you're not changing it, you're choosing it. "If you don't take care of your body, where are you going to live?" ACCOUNTABILITY, NOT ANXIETY November 1 - December 31 November 1 start weight: 202.3 November 8: 202.6 November 15: 201.7 November 22: 202.2 November 29: 203.5 December 6 December 13: December 20: December 27: December 31 final weight: Good morning all. Had a good day even tho it didn't help the scale . Got a few more small gifts for friends, all the local stores were having open houses, and of course I don't say no to a free treat. Came home and knit, walked at the park for awhile, made burritos for dinner and just chilled. I also was fighting a mild headache yesterday and feeling tired so reread the COvid symptoms but I think it's more detox from sugar, rich foods and A. Feel better today. We got the new TV stand we ordered so that needs to get put together down in the basement, see if that happens today. I have 6 more rows to do on my stocking and want to finish that main part today before the sewing up and adding the name. Just glad to see the sun shining and be up for another day. Just need to make a list this morning and then tackle it to get things done. Hope you all have a great Sunday. Jan Amy. When did you ever find time to work ha ha. You are a busy lady! Glad the lights got up and you found what you needed. I need to clean out the fridge today and rearrange what's left over and what can go out. Hope you find the stocking pattern, be careful, soon everyone will want one for a "relative" . That's how I'm doing this one for a cousin who lives in Seattle that I haven't seen in years. Carole. Glad Ty got to see his friends. I've only been to Vegas a few times, but a little goes a long way and I'm usually ready to go home by the 3rd day. Glad you are doing well with the A. Safe travels tomorrow. Hope you get some pool time. Liz. Your mojo is out there lurking, it's just been a crazy year. It's different because you didn't choose to retire yet, but were forced to stay home so no closure. I agree the new baby will help but you will want the energy to enjoy that. December can be your month!! I just keep meditating or praying for guidance and purpose, it's often right in front of us. Hugs Cindy. Hope you're feeling better soon. After Thursday I have been all messed up on my days too. Murphy. Did you enjoy your burger? After 3 turkey days it's good to have something totally different. We may do a turkey tettrazinni today and then the rest goes in the freezer. Cathy. I vote for the tree in your sitting room where you read or can see it frequently. The lights feel so peaceful. I guess that's the purpose, the light in the dark days of winter, signaling the Advent. My son played a lot of things, like you. Piano early, then violin and recorder at school as that's what they offer. He changed to viola when they needed one in 6th grade. Started the sax in middle school which he played in Jazz band in high school. Taught himself flute one year when they needed that for a musical. Jr year he became the piano player for the jazz band. He originally went to college at San Francisco state as a Jazz piano player after auditioning and being accepted. Lasted a year and a half and knew he wanted to do something that could be an actual career . Thus the change and eventually becoming a nurse! We do still have his keyboard here, sold the piano in California before the move. Someday I think he'll get back to it. Time to get a move on.

Countdown to retirement - 32 days!
Good morning! Well it's still before noon so I'm counting it as morning! LOL. Remember that I woke up at 4:00 yesterday morning? Well with all the work in the garage, I was asleep by 9:00 and slept till 7:30 this morning! I'm supposed to be at church at 8:00!! I flew around and got dressed and made it just a few minutes late. I told my ladies class that I felt proud that I actually remembered to put a bra on! LOL. We had a good service but I kind of had a nagging headache since I didn't get coffee or get any breakfast. Came home and had a bowl of cereal and I have the fall decorations boxed up. I'm going to put out my Santas, Snowmen and the Nativity today. I decided I will give myself grace on the tree and put it out one evening this week if I want to. If not, that's ok too!
Amy - sorry you missed out on the trees for the doorway! I hate when I get something on my mind and then can't find it! Hope you find the pattern for the stocking!
Jan - yay for being able to avoid the wine for the weekend! I did enjoy the burger! The one "people" food that Callie goes WILD over is French Fries! I did bake a few in the toaster over (because what's a burger without fries?) and just about had to fight her off! LOL
Cindy - hope you are over your headache. I am just going to go ahead and put out my Christmas stuff and plan on doing a deep cleaning when I put everything up! At least that's what I'm telling myself right now! LOL
Cathy - I do love Christmas tree lights so I won't be surprised if I do wind up putting up the tree!
Carole - I am dying to know what the body exhibition is about too! LOL. Hope you get some time by the pool. Our weather is supposed to turn cold this week!
I going to put out my Santas now and pretend that my Mom is here with me! Everyone have a great day! Murphy

Hi girls. I’m also in the headache group. Mine is totally centered in my eyeball area. I too am tired. I just can’t come back from too little sleep like I used to! It was my turn for the organ today, but I asked someone else to do it. We’ve been eating leftovers. Today DH is making turkey vegetable soup! Yum!
I just wanted to check in. And I’m curious about Caroles body exhibition too!

What will you be accountable for today?
Move More Accountability: guess fake it until it becomes routine?
Sleep Accountability: Bad dreams about excessive drinking.
Nutrition Accountability: restart each day
Journal Accountability: December 1 is coming?? I mean it is coming but fingers crossed I start journaling
Happiness Accountability: fair to middling
Habit Accountability: getting more water in, need more!
Check in Daily Accountability: I'm back!
Time Management Accountability: Now tomorrow is Monday, correct?
Hi Everyone!
Amy, sounds like a wonderful day of decorating! Glad your neighbors are nice...do you think the little girl might have been a "Boo" basket deliverer (if I'm remembering correctly)? Glad it isn't just me getting the days confused! Didn't realize your DH was so musically talented. Did any of the kids take after him?
Jan, it sounds like you have a wonderful neighborhood of shops and park. The lights must be lovely to look at in the evening. Hope your list went well and you were able to accomplish items. I laughed about Finn being a two timer! But so nice to know you have someone to count on looking out for the cats.
Carole, so glad that Ty and friends had a great time but as others, inquiring minds want to know about the body exhibit....was it mummified bodies?
Murphy, glad you were able to make church! I hope you put out your Santas and felt your Mom's spirit with you.
Liz, day late but do understand your depression/frustration of what you have been going through. You have done incredibly well...just my blip of a fractured wrist did me in for awhile. Do not be hard on yourself. You are a wonderful, caring person. Your DD is counting on you as is the grandbaby...so be good to yourself, love yourself, and be here to vent! Hugs!
GG, yup, join in with the headache group...eyeball area? sinuses? I agree with you that I just don't bounce back(and I resent it!). Turkey vegetable soup sounds wonderful!
Cathy, it always crosses my mind about COVID too but I just don't have enough symptoms of it...mine go towards the Simponi infusion rejection. I have been this tired before and usually blamed on the RA. Will text my RA doc tomorrow. Definitely put the tree where you can enjoy it most. I am thinking of putting the tree in the house without ornaments...or just unbreakable ones. I think about doing a small green house but as I moved everything from the outside onto the porch due to a freeze tonight and for the next few days, I wonder if it is worth it. I hope it works out for DH. Would he be doing seedlings?
So we are in for a freeze tonight. Gathered up the outside decoration that probably wouldn't do well in a freeze. DS did some work on his car and made progress but has a WAYS to go. He found a rat that appeared to have been trying to get into the garage. Quite dead but not happy about it being about the garage area. Put out some poison. Mice I can tolerate but rats worry me....where are my snakes??
DS is also learning to play ukelele....he received one as a gift last year...he plays guitar, piano and sings. I just play piano. We should consider a musical group at the OWL's NEST.
Have clean up to do in the kitchen tomorrow. I think I have all that is needed to ship out gifts...just need to wrap them, package them and bring them to the post office.
One more day in November...amazing!
Hugs to all, Cindy

It was a late night...or early morning. I am tired this morning and can tell that making wise food choices may be iffy today. The internet gave out while talking to our son so I left but hubby stayed by the computer and talked a bit more. My son seems resigned to the idea that at some point, even being careful, someone or everyone in the family will catch covid-19.
AMY: It sounds fun decorating for Christmas! I am glad that your cats have a safe cozy warm place to spend the winter! I am glad your son is still able to enjoy music without a piano.
JAN: Sounds busy at your house! Did you get the TV set up downstairs? How interesting about your son...sounds a bit like my daughter who taught herself to play oboe because they had one at her school and nobody knew how to play one... I am sure that your son will always enjoy music even if he doesn't play daily.
MURPHY: Glad you had a good night of sleep. I hope you get the decorating finished soon.
GG: I am tired today...thinking a nap at 10am sounds good?!?!?!
CINDY: We have an enclosed balcony on the main floor so he sometimes starts plants in there. It gets sunlight most of the day. He had a plastic greenhouse at one time with plastic sides but high winds blew it apart and he moved the support poles (rounded) in two places and used them to grow grapevines over. He has also made small plastic greenhouses in the past. He has fun playing and I benefit from the vegetables that sometimes appear.
It sounds like a LOT of us play musical instruments and have children that do or have played, too! How fun!
