Good afternoon my crafting friends and all who come in to read. It's a nice wam day here but the wind is blasting so makes it feel much cooler.
Ginny, I think I didn't say that correctly. That 8 pocket shawls includes the 5 I already have done (including one that still needs pockets)and now I have three more to make for Christmas gifts and then 2 for birthdays so actually it's not even 8 it's 10 total. Guess I can't count. I think I will use one of the patterns I already used for one of the upcoming ones.I ripped the last one out last night and started over because using the hook the designer called for it came out to stiff. It needed more drape. I'm now using a hook two sizes up and it looks and feels better so far.
CJ, you do find the nicest quilts to make. I love seeing them

Ruth, by now you know me and know that I can misinterpret something faster than any other person I know...or you know... glad to learn that you have only 5 more to make, still quite an undertaking for sure! If they are child sized, even they take a lot of yarn and time. Glad that the hook size change worked at making a more comfortable drape in the shawl...indeed they have to drape and be cozy to wear.
Got my bloodwork done this am and 2 sort of curbside pickups done. Both worked out well enough....and now its pouring. A small amount of moisture has come in the house, which I am making sure that the pump is taking care of. Just another thing that Dh used to take care of (sort of). I will end up having to hire someone to officially water proof the house and be done with it. Dh did the best that he could but was too stubborn to hire a contractor. One more thing on the list of stuff to take care of this spring. Thankfully the heavy rain ends in a few hours and I should be able to control the damage.
Gonna sneak in some crocheting.... Ginny

Today I had to go into town. Not something I want to do! It was a post office and bank trip. At the post office I had to go inside to mail two items. At the bank I had to go inside, too. Very, very short time in either place. Everything had to do with the estate. I'm not finished yet, but another piece is finished. A few minutes ago, my real estate agent called to tell me that the LV house will close tomorrow. That means I'll have to go back inside the bank again in the next few days.
I may celebrate tonight by working on the merlot scarf for a while!

Ginny, one of the shawls is child size but not a small child. She is 11. I'm sorry to hear you having leaking going on. That seems to alway be the problem in your state. There's lots of septic tank use there.my dh will never hire anyone either. He feels that they won't do a good job and money will be spent for nothing.
Sue this estate thing sure is lingering on. How long has it been now...a couple years? I hope it's all takenn care of soon and you can have all that off your mind. Yes celebrating by working on that beautiful scarf is a great idea. I just ordered one more thing for dh for Christmas. It's a tradition....a bottle of a different kind of hot sauce.
CJ and Phyl, I hope you're both having an enjoyable day

Ruth, I agree that this has taken a long time! It's a little less than two years that I've been working on one aspect or another. I didn't do anything for almost a year while her friend was threatening me and then disappeared. The house sold three months ago, and it finally closed late this afternoon. The squatter and her friend were responsible for that delay. If it hadn't been for the CPA who had to get info from the IRS, I wouldn't have had any idea what the assets were other than the houses. It seems like everything was done backwards. I am really hoping to finish by mid January, but that might not be realistic.

Sue, sounds like the estate settlement is proceeding - just not at the pace you would like. Here home sales can take awhile as all the legal stuff gets done and the haggling ends. (Had that happen with my mom’s house, which sold technically in late September but officially closed in January). Your situation was complicated by the squatter, who are, oddly enough, protected by the law. From what I read, its the long term exposures that are more problematic with Covid- as in sitting in a closed environment for more than 15 minutes. Of course that does not make you feel better-but it does indicate that with what you are doing, exposure is minimal. And banks and post offices have to have sanitation protocols. Congrats on the house selling being finally DONE! Hope you were able to celebrate as you wanted to, by working on the merlot scarf.
Ruth-no matter how you put it, these pocket shawls are not small projects. Do you order hot sauce from a different company each year, or just try a different variety? Its sure popular these days....hope you both enjoy it.
My water woes have absolutely nothing to do with a septic system- we are on village sewer. The builder just cut a ton of corners when building these houses in the 70’s. Little by little dh did a LOT to remedy the problem. I need to get someone in to kind of finalize what he did to provide a system that really does not require my assistance.. Even having the driveway resurfaced (and repitched) was part of the plan- something we have been working on for years.
Finished the scarf last night. Hope I can put the finishing touches on the first panel quilt this am.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today We had a lot of rain yesterday, over 2 inches, and now the colder temps are here and it's supposed to be in the 40s for several days. I decided not to participate in the jelly roll quilt along, it just didn't motivate me. I have plenty of other projects to work on. I mentioned the Virtual Cookie Blog Hop and that starts today. I believe each quilter posts a cookie recipe, so here's a link in case you want to check out today's bloggers: createinthesticks.blogspot.com/Take care everyone.

Ginny, I have no idea why I put septic tanks in there. I meant sump pumps,

Ginny, I didn't know you were making a scarf. I somehow must have missed that. Lots of corners were cut when this house was being built too. They still are not straightened out even after 30 years of us living here and the previous owners (who rumor has it built the house) lived here for 10.
CJ, I agree that if you don't like a project or it just doesn't inspire you then you should at least set it aside. As you said, you have plenty of things to work on so don't need to force yourself to work on something that you just don't feel like doing right now.
It's cold here today and is snowing. It just got very thick to the point that I can't see the mountain anymore. It was just a light snowfall before this started minutes ago. I put a pot of chili on to simmer and will most likely spend the day crocheting. I took that pattern apart again last night and restarted the shawl with a different one and it's coming along well except I didn't really want it quite this wide but I don't feel like ripping it out. Did enough of that on the last pattern. The yarn will be worn out just from being ripped out and restarted so many times.
Did anyone do shopping online yesterday for cyber Monday? I didn't even look at yarn. the only thing I bought was the hot sauce. I usually buy it from a local store but this year decided to buy online. It's amazing all the ones that are available.

Gee CJ- 2 inches is a lot of rain.....and I know you have a sump pump- hope your house stayed nice and dry. Like you, I we are facing a big dip in temperatures here. Pretty funny that Florida was colder this am than I was here in NY. Absolutely agree - if a certain quilt or project does not inspire you and you have no other goal for it, then change the plan and do something else that brings you joy. I know you have a lot of fabrics and your own quilt kits ready to go. Work on something you love to work!!! Thanks for the link for the cookie exchange. So neat- and those pie crust cookies look so good.
Ruth, following Aja Joys comment, I made a scarf from a single skein of a really pretty yarn I had here- and just took the pocket pattern from her pocket shawl and made it into a scarf. I finished it this am, and its so pretty. How much snow did you end up with?? Sounds like it was coming down pretty hard, so if it snowed for any length of time, then you must have a fair amount to deal with. Sorry that you seem to be working on a shawl that is wider than you wanted....but I understand about ripping it out and what a pain that is- plus how it weakens the yarn. Chili sounds like a perfect meal for a cold snowy day.
Gonna say that there are a lot of sump pumps here because we get a lot of residual tropical systems that can dump a ton of rain in a short amount of time. I think that A sump that combines my drainage systems could solve the problem- but I will leave that to the professionals in the spring. I finished the scarf today and the first panel quilt. Started putting the binding on the second panel quilt, which I will finish Thursday. I did no cyber Monday shopping. Still have to buy for Ds, but other than that I am getting done.I do have to start wrapping and have to write Christmas cards. While that exercise will keep me busy, it will be strange signing the cards by myself. Going to start making a shrug- this is for me- looks like an easy pattern. Should go well enough I hope. Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today. I checked out the blogs yesterday for the Virtual Cookie Exchange and I noticed a few of them didn't have a post on the cookies. But the ones for December 2nd (today) all have a recipe posted. Here's a link where you can scroll down to find a listing of all the blogs for December 2nd and click on them to see the cookie recipes. www.moosestashquilting.com/I found the Can-Do recipe on the MooseStash Quilting Blog very interesting. She gives one basic dough and then several variations. It's cold and windy here today, but sunny. I put away all the fabrics on my sewing table and cleared off some scraps and other things too. I just left out the fabric for 2 projects that I hope to work on when I feel like it again. Hope you all are getting some crafting done today. Take care!

CJ- thanks for posting the link and I really like that site. Its a neat combination of quilting/sewing and of course the cookie recipes/exchanges. Its all just really amazing how in the midst of this pandemic crafters have kept themselves going and trying to do as much normal activity as possible, given the constraints of social distancing and staying safe.
This was not a day for crafting....I might try to start crocheting in a little bit.
Got the same weather pretty much as CJ has. Cold and a bit breezy. Think it warms up a little bit tomorrow and they are saying more rain on schedule for Friday and Saturday. With the exception of Ds, I have most of my shopping done, now its time to start wrapping.

Now if I did quilting that would be the quilt for me. I love penguins and have a collection of stuffed ones and other things penguin. Looks like the die you use to make them is expensive though so I'd figure out a way to make them without that. Guess I'll stick to crocheting them.
I really like the cookie recipe. As you said it's very versatile. The cinnamon balls sound really good
I did get to the half way point of the current shawl. I was able to work on it this morning for a few minutes and will now spend the evening working on it.
Ginny, if you liked those pockets it's a great idea to use that and make it into a scarf. There's so much that can be done with patterns in order to create other things.. Baby blanket patterns for instance make good rectangular shawls and scarves. Scarf patterns can also be made into many other things. Even dish cloth and potholder patterns can easily be adapted

Congrats on getting to the halfway point of the shawl.....do you think you will be able to finish it this evening??
Tough day for me- had to put down my 23 year old cat. He has been failing for a few weeks- had the vet been open I would have done it yesterday. He was such a kind and sweet hearted animal. Really the nicest cat I have ever owned. Still have one20 year old brat cat.....am heading to the shelter tomorrow not to replace Tom, but to find a new younger fur baby (knowing that the 20 year old has some health issues also).
