Opps!!! In my haste, yes Ruth, its 4 tablespoons (1/4) cup of flour- which for those who are gluten sensitive, i can imagine you could substitute rice flour, cornstarch or another acceptable thickening agent. And I pretty much copied the recipe as is- typical Ginny, I usually make it with 2 tbs of butter (to cut fat) and as I did yesterday, used reconstituted skim milk (I keep skim milk powder in the house as a staple). So if you are craving a super rich soup- make it as written...and I never put the finishing touch of Parmesan cheese, nutmeg or mace or parsley (although the parsley would make it more attractive). I just love this soup....made a batch for Dd yesterday who remarked how really good it is. And so simple also. Donβt know how it freezes as the batch size is not huge.
Another good recipe is comforting chicken noodle soup. Dh used to like canned cream of chicken soup, which always seemed a whole lot blah to me. This recipe jazzes it up a notch and I really enjoy it. Do not have any idea how you could substitute for the canned cream of chicken soup, if it conflicts with dietary issues.
Slept a bit late this am- had some trouble falling asleep last night.
Ds and I head over to the shelter this afternoon to look for a cat....based upon what I saw there the other day I flip and flop over which cat would work out the best for me. Yesterday Dd brought over her kitten (he is 8 months old) he is a loveable and silly little fellow.
And its cold here...all the sudden we are at instant winter.Looks like next week, some slightly warmer temps are predicted for here. My bird feeder is busy- guess my little feathered friends need the seed to stay warm.

Ginny, I hope you find the perfect kitty that you and your ds both like. I was thinking the same as Phyl said yesterday. I'm the same age as Phyl and I,too, would hate to leave a pet that outlived me. My aunt and uncle had a dog that they loved and spoiled and died before the dog did and I often wondered what happened to the poor dog. You won't have that problem because you're still young plus you have family that would take any pets.
For years I had problems getting to sleep but lately have been able to fall asleep and my problem now is waking up.The med I take for my bladder problem really does just what people have said about it....makes you sleep longer and not want to get up when you do wake. Once you do force yourself to get up you don't feel groggy or anything at least. And you have many things on your mind so I'm not surprised to hear that you are having problems falling asleep. Nice thing about not being able to fall asleep for me was I recited Bible verses to myself so it helped me memorize them. How's hte new mattress feeling. I thought maybe having a new one wouldhelp you sleep better.
I imagine CJ is checking the quilting blogs today. There are some really nice quilts being made. I should have saved the link you provided, CJ, to see the quilts and cookie recipes. I'll go back and look for it.
I did get 36 inches of the shawl done. It needs to be 85 inches because of the ends being folded up for pockets and then 65 inches need to be left for the length needed to come close to the helght for this particuar dgd. Ginny, the one you gave to dd#2 ...did you make it to her helght? And did it end up with the pockets in a comfortable place for her hands. I'm a little concerned now that these stretch some and might end up too long.
Well I'm going to go and do some crocheting until dh wakes up then move some wood close to the house so that it will be easier to get when it gets cold enough to use the wood stove.

Hello Crafters Phyl - I'm glad things went well for you at the chiropractor's office and that you are enjoying some nice Christmas stories Ginny - Thanks for posting the recipe, it sounds good. I hope you can find a cat today at the shelter, it's so good of you to give a pet a home. Ruth - I'm glad you are making progress on the shawl. I'm sorry you have problems with your sleep, I do too. It's rare for me to get a night of sleep that I feel is really restful. Sure do miss the days when I was younger and slept for 8 hours without waking Sue - Hope you are doing well. I would love to get another pet, I know it would help me emotionally since it's really lonely living alone. But I'm realistic enough to know that I don't have a good situation for a pet and I'm not up to all the care that is involved. I also worry about leaving a pet after I die, so I've just accepted that I can't have one again. Here's a link to the Christmas tree quilt block I mentioned yesterday: www.thesprucecrafts.com/patchwork-christmas-tree-quilt-block-pattern-2821142I did try a sample one today and it came out pretty good. I have a few other fabrics that I want to try to make another tree block with. Here's the original pattern that interested me, but I don't have enough different pieces of fabric to make something like this one: www.ilovetomakequilts.com/charming-trees.htmlIf you look at Pat Sloan's Facebook page you can see lots of different tree quilts done in this pattern. I really enjoyed seeing all the different color variations the quilters came up with: www.facebook.com/groups/QuiltWithPatSloan/photos/I usually just pull up this page (above) so I can go through the photos and later read the discussion. It's a pretty sunny day here, but cold in the 40s. I was glad not to have to go outside today. Take care everyone!

As you see by me being a guest I'm still upstairs where our living room, kitchen, etc are so am on laptop without passwords. I made biscuits and sausage gravy. Biscuits from scratch.
CJ, I went to that site and it looks like a fantastic site that would be very helpful to beginners. I wish I had more time. Both crocheting and quilting are crafts that we tend to get very involved in and have no time for anything else. That's how I am with my crocheting anyway and haven't had a chance to even finish those 10 minute table runners. the other thing of note on that page (I scrolled down) that I found interesting was the beginner log cabin quilt. Now THAT is a busy quilt. I'd have to use way different fabric..that one has way too many busy designs for me

Ruth, the beauty about quilting is that you can do something minimal- like the Christmas tree patterns CJ gave us...or you can take on a major quilt. Did you ever get started on those 10 minute table runners? They really take a bit longer than 10 minutes but are so pretty and make a lovely gift. As far as the pocket shawl, I made it to the size Aja Joy suggested- think it was 141 rows of the triple stitch pattern with the 5 rows of DC on each end. Dd#2 is 5β7β, I am 5β4β. Made the pockets near the edge, which seemed pretty close to ok for me, but I know her arms are longer. She has said nothing about it, but loves that she has something she can throw over her shoulders when she is chilly. So far no comments on it being too short/too long etc....I will text her and ask if she would prefer it longer or shorter. Those biscuits sound good....nothing better than homemade biscuits.
CJ- not sure if you are a dog or a cat person. Cats are a bit easier to care for than dogs and the shelters are happy to adopt out older pets....I saw several cats that were wonderful animals and a bit older. Oh yes I get it that if something were to happen to me, my kids would have to take on my cats. Pretty sure that none of them would mind. Thanks for the links for the CHristmas tree panels. I really liked the second one- charming trees- the one you indicated you did not have enough different fabrics for . Just so pretty. I hope you give that soup recipe a try. Great on a cold day.
So my crafting today might have been giving Jane advice on the quilt she is finishing for her mom. She brought in a sample of her stipple and wanted to know if she should use that all over the quilt. I thought so- and think she will do a great job. Got one final question for the shelter- that being that if I take the kitten to my vet and he sees a problem if I can return the animal. (I would take him/her to the vet immediately). Once I get that answer, i will most likely adopt a smaller female older kitten- very sweet and a bit shy. Hope it all works out and I can bring her home tomorrow. Late this afternoon I stained 2 doors and some woodwork. Dh had started the project and never finished. I already bought paint for the room and really want to paint it, and then have carpet put in. the hardwood floor in that room was poorly installed, so the easiest thing to do is just over it with carpet.
Phyl-glad you are enjoying those Debbie Macomber stories. I know she is a popular author.
Sue- how did your weekend end up??
Have a good night all Ginny

Ginny, you're right about the Christmas tree blocks. They look easy especially with the great directions that are provided. I love the one that CJ said she didn't have enough fabric for...the Charming trees one... it's beautiful
I did start a couple of those 10 minute table runners but never got them finished. I think that was when this pandemic started and I made some masks and never got back to the table runners. I'll definitely have to get back and finish those. I think too that it was difficult for me to remember how to fold then so that they would come out right. As I said, I really have to get back to them.
