Happy Day All!
Mar – hope your anniversary dinner was one to remember with love. Wish you many more - and where you can go out and paint the town rather than take-out - no matter how good it is.
Dayle – am a bit worried about you, girlfriend. Please take care and be smart. If you continue feeling poorly, go back to the doctor, please.
Emily – sorry you didn’t get any shopping done, but know you enjoyed the time with your sister.
Helen – are all your family members etc., recovering well from COVID? That’s what really counts.
Connie – glad you’re feeling better, but don’t push it. Be careful if you’re out in the “weather”.
Phyl – so sorry to hear about Don’s brother. Prayers.
Lin – please help me remember when (if?) I ever around to getting rugs for the house in FL that I need to be careful of the backing. One of the reasons I really like this thread is all the stuff I learn!
Couldn’t start us yesterday as the internet was down. Stayed that way most of the day. Most of the day was spent washing sheets and towels. Supposed to be in the 20’s at night after today, so had to pull out DH’s flannel sheets and freshen them up. I would burn up, but he loves them.
DH lit the pilot light in the fireplace yesterday, we are good to go. Love our gas fireplace. For years we had real logs, but as we got older, it was just a hassle to cut the wood and have to go out to get it, etc. All that and of course, it had to be cold in the first place. The first Christmas we were here, my sister was visiting and we lost power Christmas Eve. Was out for about 24 hours. Didn’t have a generator then and the fireplace saved us! We pulled the two recliners right up in front of it and took turns sitting on a kitchen chair or the floor.
Don’t know what’s gotten into Charlie. He’s started coming in my room while I’m reading in bed at night. He just jumps up on the bed and stays with me until I turn out the light, then he goes to his bed in the living room under the bench. In the past, he only gets in bed with one of us when it’s storming. It’s not something we’ve encouraged.
On Friday afternoon my friend’s DH called on his way home from Atlanta. They’d given her about 48 hours. She hasn't ever gotten back to a point where I might talk to her. He’s so lonely and unhappy, as you can imagine. We talk about all kinds of things and laugh a bit. I called him yesterday afternoon and we did the same. He sure can talk!!! He’s a nuclear engineer and loves to tell tales about when he was in the Navy and then a civilian employee for the Navy in Japan for several years. I figure the least I can do for Jean and him is to listen to him for a while and laugh at his stories – some are really funny.
Headed out in a few minutes to go to Costco with neighbor, K. She’s Holly’s mom. Were supposed to go tomorrow, but is going to be much colder than today, and possibly raining or even snowing this evening. Ugh! Want to go, get our shopping done, and get home again. The coldest morning is Wednesday AM, my shelter day, when it’s to be down to 21 degrees here. Probably colder at the shelter as it’s a bit higher altitude. Oh boy! If there's snow/ice I won't go. Not a good thing to do having to go over the mountain.
Want to share a fun book I’m reading. It’s called the Thursday Murder Club, by Richard Osman.
“In a peaceful retirement village, four unlikely friends meet weekly in the Jigsaw Room to discuss unsolved crimes; together they call themselves The Thursday Murder Club. Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron might be pushing eighty but they still have a few tricks up their sleeves.
When a local developer is found dead with a mysterious photograph left next to the body, the Thursday Murder Club suddenly find themselves in the middle of their first live case. As the bodies begin to pile up, can our unorthodox but brilliant gang catch the killer, before it’s too late? “
It's really fun and I’ve had a few really good smiles. Fun how the "old" people think. Also a really good mystery/whodunit. I finished it last night and am not totally sure I understand who did what to whom. Complicated… Let me know what you think if you read it.
Guess I’ll go double check my list for Costco and decide what to wear, besides my mask. That’s a given. Make your day a good one and stay safe. Cheers!
