I am a long time lurker, and newly registered for this Message Board. I have been on a diet or cheating on that diet since 1985. I am currently sporting 15 pandemic related stress pounds, and am at a crossroads about my yoyo dieting lifestyle. I yearn to eat intuitively (and not weigh and record everything) but my constant depravation of one kind or another causes binge eating so I don't feel like I can be trusted to eat without being on a diet. (Sound familiar?) I feel my best when I eat Whole 30ish, with more saturated fats, and low or no sugar and grains), so I have had zero success on the Green and Blue WW plans (and some minor success on Points Plus). I can run through my daily points in 700 calories, feel discouraged, go completely overboard, and then repeat. Despite this, I keep signing up for WW. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and thinking that this time the result will be different. That is my experience with WW. I sometimes change what diet I am on multiple times in one day! Which brings me to my initial question: For those of you that have had success doing the Core plan, have you tried the Purple plan? Did Purple compare favorably? Why or why not? Also, I don't quite remember which version of points was in place when the Core plan was around, but I was wondering whether the Itrackbites Conquer Cravings plan could be adapted to function like Core. It gives me 22 daily points, and 35 weekly points. I figured that if I did a base entry of 22 points to begin the day, didn't record Core foods, earned activity points, and used those and the weekly points for non-Core foods, am I essentially doing Core? The formula for Conquer Cravings is based on calories, fat and fiber (capped at 4 grams).
This is my diet fantasy: choose zero point foods on Purple (or Core foods) and do not record them, and then use daily/weekly and activity points to earn the fats and extras, and feel less like I am dieting. In reality, I will probably not succeed doing this, because I simply do not feel well from a blood sugar standpoint when I eat in a low fat manner, and will just return to calorie counting again, or paleo, or low carb, aargh!
Thanks in advance for your comments!

Hi Cara and welcome to the boards π If you are on FB be sure to check out Lisa Woods, she is a coach with iTrackBites and has explanations on how to modify conquer cravings. She also has food plans and has tons of ideas. I know we have a few members here that are using ITB, purple plan, core followers, etc., that will hopefully chime in. Things get really slow around holiday time so be patient and check back in regularly, all things eventually get answered. π I had to laugh at your initial paragraph welcome to the club!! * Also you might want to copy your post and paste it on our Core/Simply Filling/π board here. They have always been really helpful. wwmessageboard.freeforums.net/board/7/simplyfilling

(Sound familiar?) Hi Cara, and welcome! Yes it does sound familiar - since 1971 for me. I haven't done Core, though I picked up a lot of good eating habits by trying to follow the original core list. As for the yoyo dieting lifestyle, reading and learning the techniques of Judith Beck - Beck Diet Solution - helped me a lot to end that yoyoing to a large extent. DebDoesWW, mentioned Lisa Woods - she's on iTrackBites as fromdumpytodiva, and there's an itrackbites resources group that may have information about Core.

Cara, I did an August Core challenge with a group doing Core on Facebook. The group was set up by Lisa Wood that DebDoesWW, susan092907, mentioned.
There are a couple of ways to do Core on I Track Bites. One is the way Lisa suggested in which you create a food that is equal to the number of daily points and put that in daily only adding in points for non-core foods and limiting your non-core foods to your weekly and activity points earned. Another way would be to track ALL foods eaten and on paper only track the non-core foods. And you could track on Conquer Cravings the first way putting in every food but zeroing out all core foods to zero points, tracking macros (if you pay for the Pro version of the program) and seeing how you are doing.
I am sure it sounds confusing BUT it is pretty simple and I lost well the month of August...as well as or better than other months.
The group is: www.facebook.com/groups/wwcoreplan and there are files and information to assist as well as about 100 who are in the group. Conquer Cravings is a combination of the old WW programs Turnaround/Momentum/others that used calories, fat, fiber for all foods and capped the fiber at 4 grams per food.

Cara, welcome. I've found the Purple plan has a much more limited list of "no count" foods than Core or Simply Filling. And the weekly points are way down. I get 16 daily points on Purple and 21 weekly points which is pretty spartan. WW has done away with the GHGs, so if you want to incorporate fats or dairy (other than yogurt) it's going to cost you. And let's not even mention a glass of wine. There's a lady on YouTube named Arlene (Arlene's Creations) who has some fabulous and delicious Purple recipes that she walks you thru them step by step. What I love about Arlene are her Long Island accent and how she gets right to the point and doesn't load the videos with all kinds of extraneous information and talking about herself all the time. The only thing I disagree with her on is she says she doesn't use any fats.

I feel my best when I eat Whole 30ish, with more saturated fats, and low or no sugar and grains), so I have had zero success on the Green and Blue WW plans (and some minor success on Points Plus). Unless I'm somehow misunderstanding, it sounds more like you'd prefer a low carb diet, like Atkins, than the Core Plan. Core emphasized low fat and allowed (even encouraged) lots of whole grains (not refined). The idea of having foods you don't have to count is one I liked, so I liked the Core plan. Of course with a plan like Atkins, you do have to count carbs even in healthful foods, but high fat/high protein foods like steak usually have virtually no carbs. I have done low fat and low carb diets, in the past. I feel that low fat ones with plenty of whole grains are more sustainable for me. I lost 25 lbs on the Core Plan twice in the past. I lost almost 40 lbs on a low carb diet, as well. The higher loss on the low carb was mostly because at that time I had a lot more to lose than when I did the Core Plan. As for satisfaction, Core was the best. The only issue I had with Core is that I felt it required a lot more dedication to home cooking. I love to cook, but sometimes I go through low mood periods, when my motivation to do things decreases. Sorry if I'm misunderstanding something. I know nothing about Purple plan, or the like. I do know the Core Plan well.

Cara , I started during a plan later than Core; it was the Momentum plan and what had been Core became the Simply Filling Technique, which then became Simply Filling when the plan changed to PointsPlus and remained Simply Filling until Weight Watchers became WW. I'm still doing SF; I'm registered as Purple. When I eat something that wasn't on the last SF list, I count Purple points for it. I made Lifetime and have been Lifetime at Goal for about ten years. I strongly recommend that you visit Healthy Living (instead of General Discussion) and click on the Purple icon. There are many options on that page. I check the "7 in 7" thread. I find it keeps my head in the game. But there are many threads that repeat on a daily basis; find what speaks to you. The support on the Purple page is great.

cathygeha , squid , cyndee , Holly Gail : thank you for your comments. I have requested access to the Facebook Group and will try using Itrackbites for tracking. cyndee - I suspect that you are correct that Core will be too low fat for me.

Cara, There is more than one group on Facebook using I Track Bites. There is the general one then one or more for each of the options on the app. ALSO there is a board in the Healthy Living section for all those doing a program that is different. We check in on threads in PLANS YOUR WAY and would love to have you join us.
