I decided to work on my experiment on revising the faux cable fingerless glove pattern. Trial and error but I think I have it now. I'm using a smaller hook and using single crochet rows between the slip stitch and double crochet rows. I tried using just another dc row but then it ended up that my slip stitch row was on the wrong side so the ridges were on the wrong side. This way I can get in another row to make the space for the cables the right size and have it end up on the same side as the other ridges that are used with the chain stitches to make the fake cables. So I think I have it now. This evening I'm going to make the other two things for dd's birthday presents then get back to making the other fingerless gloves I want to show her and that her friend can choose from. Have a great day all and again, Ginny I hope you don't mind me starting but I just couldn't wait to blab again.

Time to relax. I just paid mu bills for the month.
Ruth, thanks for getting us started for the week. I am sure that Ginny wont mind that you started the thread. You are making progress with your fingerless gloves. How many pr. are you going to make ?
I am enjoying doing the V stitch. I like changing colors and I hope I make good selections so far it looks good. I didn't sleep well last night. My arm and shoulder hurt and the swelling on my arm seemed to be bigger. I had to get up early and get Devin off to school and I have been puttering around here all morning doing chores. Soon I will work on my afghan and listen to a book. I will probably fall asleep once I sit in my recliner.
Have a great afternoon.

Meg, good to see you. Maybe you need to have your arm checked again. Do you take any blood thinners or aspirin, even low dose on a regular basis. Sorry to hear you had to get up early to take Devin to school. Guess his mom must leave for work before he goes to school.
I do like the V stitch. It's easy to do once you get that first row done and it ends up very pretty.
I'd like to do about seven pairs of the fingerless gloves and I wouldn't mind having more done. I can always donate the ones that the "kids" don't want and I should keep a couple for myself. I never think to wear gloves but now that my RAynaud's seems to be moving to my fingers I may have to remember to do that although I probably need whole gloves not fingerless but I do have a pattern for a pair that has a flap that you can cover your fingers with when you're not texting or whatever. I don't text so I don't need fingerless for that.
I hope if you fall asleep that you have a good nap, Meg.Dh takes a lot of naps but I don't like to because I always feel worse afterward.I have a friend who , along with her dh, takes a scheduled nap every single day for about two hours.
It snowed here all morning but now the sun has come out to stay till sunset and it's up to almost 50. Tomorrow is to be cold again. I should go out and get some wood so I can make a fire tomorrow if there isn't any wind.
I'll bbl

Hello Crafters - Welcome to a new week Meg - I hope your arm feels better soon, if not hopefully you'll have it checked out to make sure it's nothing serious. Ruth - I'm glad to hear your fingerless gloves are coming along well. I like your new avatar Ginny and Phyl - Hope you are doing well I worked on my Easter quilt today and was reminded again why I need to stop buying repeating fabric (even though it is pretty). I couldn't figure out a way to cut up the fabric the way I really wanted to, so I just cut out two large pieces about 20 inches high by 34 inches long. I sashed that in a soft yellow fabric and put a small border around them. Then I cut up three fabrics that I'm going to use for a piano key border - soft pink, aqua, and a medium lilac. I hope to get them attached tomorrow. I may put a small block in each corner of this quilt by cutting out one of the bunny scenes on that fabric. I'm going to see how it goes before I decide. Take care everyone.

Good evening! Ruth, thanks for starting us off of the week! I just had one of those days in which I was very busy and this is the first chance I have had to sit down to say hello. Anyone can start us off, but I realize that being a very early riser and on the East Coast means that I get here earlier than most of you do. It's purely by default that I start us off most of the time. the faux cable fingerless gloves sound so pretty- I wonder if that faux cable stitch can be used for hats, scarves etc.....
Meg, I am very sorry to hear that you are still uncomfortable and pray that tonight you sleep well. V stitch is great- I agree- glad you are enjoying mixing up colors to make something beautiful.
CJ- I like the idea of putting a bunny in the corner block or the border- think it will make for a nice well defined look. Your border colors sound so spring like and pretty
Phyl- how are you doing?
No time today to actually craft but I did get to look at the MSQ catalog again and try to pick up a back up color scheme. Seems that the fabric I want is sold out- so I either have to look elsewhere, see I they get it on back order or change color scheme. Not sure what I am doing yet.
SUch a long day. Take care Ginny

OH CJ, that Easter quilt sounds beautiful. I think that piano key border will be fantastic! And the bunnies in the corners sounds like a really creative and wonderful idea. You are a very creative person. I think you have to be to make nice quilts. That's why I think any that I make will be more functional than pretty or artistic.

morning, yesterday I STARTED THE EASTER BASKETS. might have to cut the squares down some. they call for 18 inch squares. and I did 17 and 1/2. when I fold it over it still looks big. we will see. she did say the baskets would be big. I bought some fabric with pink high heels and broadway sayings on it. found out sunday lizzie is not In school choir anymore. I think she will like it anyway. she took a study hall instead. being in choir is expensive the make up, the special outfits if they need them.
this am I went and got a summer hair cut. feels good.
mary jo ,joyce and I did not go to sew and sew. maybe next week.
cj that quilt sounds like it is going to be really pretty.
still knitting on the bb. I remember don 's mom did not like to knit. she said it takes to long. mary was a beautiful crocheter she could look at somethime and do it. put a pattern In front of her and she was lost.
I will be in my play pen after lunch. phyl

Ginny, I didn't see your message there last night. We must have been tryping at the same time. Thanks for explaining about the thread. It just seems like it's your thread . Yes I'm a late riser and living in MDT zone I'm two hours behind you. I'm sorry the fabric you want isn't available right now.Is this to go with your cake mix? When I'm ready to make something I hate when what I need is not available right then. I'm not good at delaying gratifications Phyl, I had an aunt who sewed like that. She could look at anything and make it. Never used patterns. I can make a lot of things without a pattern but I do use patterns OH Ginny, the faux cables are just a chain that you do between the ridges. They would probably be ok on a hat but on other things, since they're just kind of "strung" between the ridges they could easily get caught on something. I'm wondering just how long they'll last on gloves and looking at the picture I doubt my grandaughter realized they are just loose chains. They're short though on the gloves so they may work ok. Since she liked them I'm making them for her and we'll see what happens. You just attach the yarn to one ridge then chain I think it's four chains the go over and up some on the middle ridge and attach then chain again and over and up higher on that first ridge all the way up then work your way down the middle and other ridge. There are patterns for making a cable right in crochet items. It uses post stitches. I haven't tried one of those yet.I was thinking of making a pair of those for my dd becuase on those some people turn them into owls and my dd loves owls. The woman that design my present pattern with faux cables says the "real" cables are hard. We'll see. The last snow from Sunday had all melted now we have new snow. It's to be really warm tomorrow though and I can't wait for that. Even though the snow was beautiful coming down I was glad to see it melt. I hope you all have a good and safe day.

Good morning everyone. I got up earlier than usual as the men were coming to pick up my old refrigerator between 7 & 11. They were here and gone by 8 15a.m. This afternoon my new refrigerator should arrive. I slept better last night. I have an appt. for an iron Infusion on Thursday a.m. and my Dr. is at the same station so I will try and get an apt. with her.
I didn't do a lot of crocheting yesterday. I was just able to do one row on my afghan. I love putting the different colors together. I hope to get more done today.
Ginny, I can tell you have been busy lately and hope you can find time to just relax and do what you enjoy.
Phyl, I would love to have a play room where I could keep all my yarn, perhaps I can have one if my DGD ever moves out. Have fun with your quilting.
Ruth, I hope you don't have any more snow. We have had nice sunny weather and it has been ho in the afternoons but the weather is going to change by the end of the week and we will have rain and snow up in the mountains. The skiers will like that..
cj, hope all is well with you and that you are keeping busy.
I will check back later.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - I hope you can find the fabric you need. You might try fabric.com, Connecting Threads, Thousands of Bolts websites. Sometimes I purchase things from shops all over the country that sell fabric online. Ruth - Hope you enjoy the warmer weather. It's warm here today and I think we're probably done with snow for the year here in Maryland. Meg - Hope the refrigerator delivery goes well. Phyl - Glad to hear the Easter baskets are coming along and that you got some fabric to use. I'm sure the haircut feels nice too. I do like the process of designing the quilt more than actually putting it together. I've had to accept that I think of quilts more as something to display/look at rather than to use. For me the pleasure is in the pretty fabrics. But I would like to spend some time making quilts that will be used - maybe I can get to that point some day. I didn't get to any crafting today, I had the intention to do it but ran out of time. On Sunday I started another one of those No-Knead breads that I mentioned before. I baked it yesterday in a new 3.5 quart dutch oven that I bought recently (got it at a great price!). The bread came out well and I left portions for yesterday and today and then I portioned the rest and froze it. Here's the process I used: www.youtube.com/watch?v=yePMpoyXwysI'm hoping to try Cinnamon Raisin and Honey Oatmeal breads next time. This was my second time with this process so I'm feeling more comfortable with it now. Take care everyone!

Meg, on your afgan are you alternating with each row? How many different colors are you using?
CJ, I kinda forgot about the no knead bread. I was going to make some for dh as I can't eat bread made with regular flour, but he's bought bread lately and has to use that up. I have a dutch oven but mine is really large ..probably 7 qts or even more so I don't think that would work but maybe. I do have a smaller one that I keep forgetting about because I just keep it beside the woodstove and have never used it for cooking. I don't know why. This one is cast iron and I think the bigger one is too but it's enameled inside and out.Smaller one is just plain cast iron.

Good evening!
Another super busy day- and I am hoping that things will slow down. Think Friday, things will slow down. I know Thursday will be a long day. I did not get to craft- but I have emailed MSQ and asked when or if they plan on getting the fabric back in. Yes the fabric is layer cake- and I hope to use it with the cake mix I ordered and now have.
CJ- ok you can design the quilts and I can put them together! I love to see how the fabrics go together.
Meg, hope your new fridge got there and that it's perfect!
Phyl-glad you started the Easter baskets! THey are so cute and do not look like a ton of work. I am curious to know how they turn out.
Ruth-thanks for the explanation of the faux cables. They sound pretty- but I would worry because they sit on top about the getting snagged. Indeed it is a perfect time of year- pretty snow one day that melts a day or so later!!
I am tired.....will be back tomorrow. Ginny

Good morning! Just a quick hello as I have to go to the bank- am in the home stretch of settling my mothers estate and will be mailing out the forms needed to do so. Yippee!!!! Check out the craftsy quilting blog of the day www.craftsy.com/blog/quilting/. Its called 17 reasons to start a new quilt! (CJ, you do not need to read this as you are always on to a new project!). But its cute and funny and sort of reads like my wacky list of what comprises crafting. So based upon that reason, I have already crafted today- I read the craftsy blog. Have an awesome day Ginny

Ginny, yes you have your crafting all done for the day Ginny, when I read that fingerless glove pattern and saw that the faux cables were made from just chains, I thought the same thing. How is a peson going to use these gloves without the chains becoming snagged on something and pulled off. In my experimenting I've made 2 1/2 pairs so far and they look nice without the cables put on so I'm leaving those that way. I will make one pair with the faux cables for my dgd that likes them a lot and I'll also make her a pair with the other pattern I made last week because I think she'll really like those too. I'm not sure why she chose the cable ones except that my dil had her look online for something crocheted that she liked I think. I hope you all have a wonderful day and do something you really like to do. See you later
