Joan - what a nightmare for your friend and her family. The inhouse hospices are often full and have long waiting lists. Home hospice care is wonderful.Near the very end we were able to have 24h care provided. Someone was there the last 72 hrs. and it was wonderful. Too bad they couldn't do that.
I bought new cuddle duds p.j.s (2 pair) for myself and LOVE them. Such a great, soft material. Hardly catn wait to put them on at bedtime. I'm still in them from last night enjoying the comfort! I guess it's a "p.j. day".
I'm presently finishing up a variety of crocheted.lanyards that havea little slip knot on them to give out at Christmas. They are for people to put their eye glasses on when not wearing them. I kept losing my eyeglasses and bought some of the eyeglass thing's that go around your neck to hold them. I found them not satisfactory. My eyeglasses either slipped off of them or when I wore them the sides hung down on the sides of my face very uncomfortably. I saw a lanyard that they were selling of QVC for $20 each for this purpose and thought "I can make that"; so that is what I am doing. I've made them in various colors, yarns, and lengths. Even DH likes wearing one for his glasses. Your eyeglasses can be worn as usual and then when you take them off, you hook them on the end of the lanyard and push the slip knot down to secure them. I've made enough colors for me that I can change the color with what I am wearing if I want. Proud of my invention.
Joan how is your mouth?

Hi all,
Went to work today. I am wiped out even though I didn't do a whole lot. Things have really slowed down now that exams are about to wrap up.
JoJo, great idea!
Joan, I'm so sorry your friend and her family has to deal with all of that. Hopefully she can find some peace.

Jean had a terrible night as did her son who stayed with her. This morning they finally put her in a quiet room that is comfortable for them to be with her in. There is even a regular twin bed so that her son can nap during the night. I am thinking about going down now but may wait till early morning before going to yoga---just not sure I'll be ready for housecleaning in time---guess that would be better since it is already about 7 and I am really not feeling like driving that far tonight.
DH and I went out to Panera's for salad with Cruise BF's DH--she is out of town for work.
I finally folded laundry i did days ago (not like me) and ironed sheets for bed making tomorrow. Now to start picking up my projects I have out here and there---Christmas cards, yearbooks, mail, presents for gym teachers, etc. I nee to write cards out for the latter. Will deliver one to my yoga teacher tomorrow---told her today I was going to sign up for the earlier senior yoga class so I could also do a pilates class---she is disappointed---said I'm too strong for that class and thinks I'll be bored but I think I could go in the back and modify up on many of the poses as I know she modifies down for them---it is DH's class. I really want to go over for the 10:30 pilates class at the other gym---hope I'm not making a mistake---but if so, I can always switch back. This would start in January.
Cankor sores are better where they were isolated. The one that is like three large grown together is still bad and hurts so badly to treat---did not get to walgreens but will after class tomorrow. Meanwhile I have gargles with soda water---super strong---it burns like H@ll but afterwards the thing hurts less. My mom used to make us do soda. The ones on the tongue almost cleared up from it.
I need to call and make an appt. to see the dr. Who ordered the CT on my sinuses.
Holly, how is the surgery wound looking. Did you bruises begin to disappear or are they worse. When do you go back.
Sue are you all done now or do you have class yet tomorrow. Seems to me you didn't have to go on Friday, right?
Have any of you seen The Meddler? Just curious. I enjoyed the movie so much.

Hi!
Yay finished quarter yesterday. Now trying to get the rest of my life organized. I've let things go because of school. And still researching presents for SO.
Joan, they've been trying out different colors on the new board, I didn't like the last mustard yellow background, this new one is better. My grandmother went to hospice last spring, and improved so much they let her out in a week. She is now in a very nice nursing home and someone from my family sees her every day. I have never heard of arnica, will have to look that up. Glad Jean's son is speaking up, you can't do it all!
Jojo, your new pjs sound very comfy! Hey maybe you can see your crochet lanyards on etsy?
Holly, glad things are slowing down a bit for you, enjoy that while it lasts!
This guy that SO has been talking to about showing artwork was just here. His 3rd time at our house. He wants to put on a show in Jan with SO and 2 other artists. SO is looking at the space now with this guy. It will be interesting!

Hi all,
Today, they were working on changing lightbulbs in the library and the battery for the drill they were using exploded. Thankfully not much damage was done other than charring a square of carpet. Pretty much sums up the week. We were laughing at the bizarreness of it all.
Not much bruising, thank goodness. Swelling is going down.
Sue, same here. Looking forward to some time off to get some non work stuff done. Congrats to SO.
Joan, hopefully her day today was much more peaceful.

Sue - love the profile pic! What it the item to the far left? Looks yummy! The showing will be exciting. I know your SO must be excited at the idea!
Holly- Glad to hear that there is not much bruising and the swelling is going down. Do you have inside only or dissoluble stitches or do they have to be removed. DH's had to be removed. I know that sometimes on the face they use something different though.
Blew leaves outside today. Thought that by this time they would all be gone, but not so. It was cold.
Already in my p.j.'s! They are so comfy!!!

That should have been 'dissolvable"

JoJo, they have to be removed on the 22nd. Have you heard of LuLaRoe? They have some really comfy clothing.
Finally got the last two Annotated Bibliographies and graded them, so all I have to do at this point is calculate the final grades. Yay.

Sue, your presentation platter looks great---is that your pate on the left? Is it in a bread that you made? Keep us posted on the show if it happens! That would be exciting.
JoAnne, DH sucked up all the leaves a week ago and it took about 3 hours---and he said he was hoping for a big wind---which hit last night and today---there is not a single leaf left on our big rayburn ash tree---they are all over the yard and patio---hope he gets them up today sometime but it's been raining off and on so far and still really windy. Tomorrow the cold is supposed to hit big time here.
Holly, sounds like some excitement with exploding equipment.
I went to see Jean yesterday at 8:30 am and her son had spent the night---the room she was in was finally peaceful and lovely---it was a transitional apartment for training patients who are headed home soon---was empty all the time and in a quiet part of the facility. there was a real bed for her son to lie down on right next to Jean as they just wheeled her bed in there. Keith and I talked for a little while and then I talked to Jean---I told her I was there and she fluttered her eye lids and attempted to make a sound---I told her I loved her and would miss her but it was time to let go and be away from the pain and that her son was staying by her side so she wasn't alone. . OMG, she died five minutes later---just faded away---about 30 minutes earlier her pulse was still 70 and Keith was worried she would keep hanging on. So it is done. This morning at 4 am I woke up and it finally hit me---think I have been toughing it out trying to get her better and now I am falling apart. Tanzi knows I am sad---keeps trying to rub her face all over mine---so I am a wet hairy mess! What a long, long month this has been! But thank goodness she only knew of this cancer for 3 weeks--that is a blessing compared to what others have gone through and while I know that, it's still sad. I sent a long email to all three of her kids this morning and offered to help with the house, etc. It's going to be a couple months of so much to handle.
I typed that last paragraph at 5:30 this morning---finally got my emotions settled down and had my good cry so maybe now I can just manage to hold it to a teary eye occasionally and not break apart! Sometimes you just have to let it all out I guess.

Joan, I am glad she got that last quiet day, and she is no longer in pain. I know it will be a hard few months, but you will be a huge help to the family I'm sure.
We have our Christmas party tonight. So glad to put this semester to rest. Everyone is beyond exhausted.

Hi!
More organizing and online shopping today. I decided to get SO the new Dyson hairdryer (ok, it's really for both of us), and the newest model Dyson cordless. We have the model two versions ago, and the new one goes for 40 minutes on a charge, the old one is much less time. He constantly vacuums because his artwork is very messy. Also got a bunch of other things.
Holly, glad no one was hurt with the exploding battery!
Jojo, the item on the left is the pate en croute. We had a choice to make a terrine (with the lowest points), a galantine (2 more points than terrine, pate wrapped in chicken skin), or pate en croute (the most points because of making the dough)
Joan - ((((HUGS)))) The good thing is that she didn't have to suffer for a long time. I'm glad that she got moved to a peaceful room for her final moments. What a crazy, emotional month for you.
So that cuisinart recall includes the model that I have. Thank goodness I barely have been using the food processor in recent years. I contacted them and am getting the new blade. But overall, most of my small appliances are 10 years old or more and I'm thinking of just changing out to the newest model and that will last me the next 20 years.

Sue, I don't see a red pin at all. I didn't like the gold color either---this is much nicer.

Yes, Sue, I see that also but it is my avatar.
Joan- Condolences in the loss of your dear friend. You have certainly been a wonderful friend to her! Losing our peers is especially hard and makes us so aware of our own mortality. I'm sure you will continue to be a comfort to her family.
Holly, we are also going to a Christmas party tonight - our Sunday School class. It is a dinner and I'm taking sweet potatoes.
From now til Christmas and the week after Christmas we will be in a whirlwind of activity. I'll try to keep checking in but may not be to faithful - especially the week after Christmas. My sister and her SO arrive Christmas day and leave Thursday morning and my DDIL and DGD arrive Christmas day and leave Fri. night.
