Hi all,
Merry Christmas.
Sue, wow, 5000 books! I have probably less than 100 haha.
Everyone got what they asked for. I put the bike together this afternoon. Also got some clothes, books, etc.
Sad news. Last night Iver and Buddy, two of our dogs, got in a bad fight. Buddy's injuries were so extensive that we have to have him put down. I just can't fathom that a fight between just the two of them would cause that much damage. We don't know if there were any other animals involved. Buddy is 12 years old, so maybe age was part of it.

I'm shocked---the two dogs, Holly---they were both your parents' dogs? Living together and have a fight that bad? Seems so strange to me. And really sad---I'm guessing they were outdoors when this happened? Tanzi just loves having DGD16 here---she has always really loved her---she rubs her face on DGD's face the way she does me in the mornings---it's been a really busy two days---cooking all the meals requires a lot of me---at least DH and the girls wash the dishes and I did get the DGD's to help make the bulgur salad, grind the spices for the spare ribs and help get the flank steak marinated. My cheesecake turned out great---everyone loved it. Today I made an almond fruit torte---was so good. Also made a pumpkin pie. Spare ribs were great---they ate 3 large racks of baby back ribs---there were exactly 3 ribs left---which two of us shared for lunch today. We had Jordan with us for all three meals---it helped DD since the boys left her Christmas Eve night and won't be home till Thursday. I think he deliberately took them out of town because they don't like to spend more than a night or two with him here. It was strange without them for presents and breakfast today. I made a sausage tortilla casserole---sort of like a strata with tortillas instead of bread but not made day ahead. It was so good. All was eaten.
We went to a movie---Rouge One---Star Wars---I thought it was good. We decided we had to do something totally different without the boys here. After dinner tonight we played Catch Phrase---love that game. Then had dessert. DD left by 8:30 as she had to get Jordan back and packed and take him home--she teaches yoga in the morning at 5:30---DGD16 is going to go.
I got up at 5:30 this morning and did some yoga in the dark and some work on my body roller. Felt so good to stretch. Missing my classes!
It's cold today here, Holly---high was about 45 today.
DS got about 10 in. Of snow in SLC--sent a picture of his house---really a ton of snow. Lee Canyon just 30 minutes from vegas had so much that they had to close the ski resort because of avalanche danger.

Hi!
Relaxing day, did more organizing. Had a very nice Christmas with my family. My BIL's 92 yr old mom was there too. She is doing really well for her age, physically and mentally. My oldest nephew did not make it, he only gets 3 days off and he was also not feeling well so did not want to spend a day driving here and another day driving back.
The mini crab cakes turned out really well, very tasty and easy to make, though I might tweak it a bit in the future. I did not overdo it for dinner and weight is same at 123, so at least it didn't go up like it did after Thanksgiving.
Holly, glad you got the bike, did you start riding it yet? Sorry about Buddy! Did they normally get along? How was Charlotte behaving when that was going on?
Joan, hosting is a lot of work, you have to plan and shop for every meal. I hope the DGS do alright so many days with their dad.
Well, I was wrong, we have more like 6000-7000 books! Every nook and cranny of every closet is filled to brimming. Somehow SO managed to store some of his art books to make room for my new cookbooks. They are really beautiful books. It turns out I already had 2 of the books in the series, so I'll give them to somebody at school and keep the newer version.
Went to the gym today. With the cruise in April, I'm getting more determined to lose the weight.

Buddy and Iver usually got along fine, but they have been in a couple of bad fights before. Buddy was a sweet dog most of the time, but could have a temper. My parents live out in the woods, so there could have been another animal involved. Not sure where Charlotte and Tigger were. We adopted Buddy and Tigger together from a rescue 10 years ago. This is the first time they have ever been separated. Iver is William's dog.
I tried out the bike today. It works. I can't sit all the way back and fully rotate the pedals, so I will need to use a cushion for support. If I use this bike often, I may invest in a much nicer one in a few years.
I started watching The Walking Dead. It is nerve wracking, yet addicting.
Sue, glad the food turned out well. Is your oldest nephew in med school?
Joan, sounds like fun times with family.

Hi!
Early gym/housekeeper day. I had a meeting with a woman who was in my class in college who owns several restaurants here and just opened another one in NYC to great acclaim (NYT rated it one of best new restaurants of the year, Daily Meal, Food and Wine, etc). I contacted her about doing my internship at one of her restaurants and I think it will work out. They think I would get more out of it if I worked more shifts and compressed time frame (5 weeks instead of 10, which is what the school specifies), so I have to see if that will work out. My concerns are it's going to be long days and I have more hours of school than I normally do. We'll see, this quarter is going to be less work in terms of homework, so that helps.

Sue, sounds intense, but it will be good to get it done in a shorter amount of time. Do you have a storage unit yet for the books, haha?
Did laundry, bill paying, etc done. I had to renew my my membership to the American Library Association and two of its divisions for conferences coming up. Seems so expensive.
I was supposed to go to Chapel Hill for a CI mapping, but my friend who I would stay with fell and broke her arm. She breaks something nearly every year due to severe osteoperosis. I wasn't really in the mood to go anyway.

Hi!
Gloomy, rainy day here. Doing odds/ends stuff around the house and still organizing. I still need to go through a final pile of magazines, will throw most of them out. Filled out the paperwork for renewing my passport, just need to get my picture taken. My passport expires in Sept and I need to have at least 6 months before expiration on it for my cruise in April/May.
Today need to make some appointments for mammo/bloodwork, etc. Also need to contact people in school about my internship.
Holly, no storage for books, although I've been pushing for that for a while now. SO is still stubborn about the idea that we won't be here by the end of the year. Sorry about your friend, is this the elderly one that you sometimes travel with?
There are 3-4 houses that SO has been tracking, in CA, Tucson and I'm encouraging him to just take a trip out there and see them and get it out of his system. If he really loves one of them, then we can put in an offer. I can't go with him because of school, but he's afraid that they're going to sell and I don't want him moaning about losing out on one of them.
Gym later this afternoon, otherwise just taking it easy during the break before school starts.

Good morning, Sue, Holly and maybe JoAnne---yesterday I never got around to posting---can't even remember if I did on Tuesday---took a hike on Tuesday and then had a big lunch before DD and family had to go to the airport---then I zoned out and did marathon GG girls. Yesterday we took the car for an oil change and had to get new spark plugs because it now has over 100,000 miles on it---this is my minivan which we will drive to Sacramento tomorrow. So we had breakfast out with BF's who live nearby the car dealership. Then came home and took down the tree and put away most of the decorations---left the mantel and the garland over the top of the hutch---will do that after we get back. DH took down all the outdoor lights and decor. Love taking down a fake tree---so, so easy! I listened and "watched" more GG while working. Then crashed and watched some more! OMG, I felt like such a slug. Made flank steak salad for DD, DH and I witha huge amount of roasted veggies---I had forgotten to make them for Christmas dinner so had a ton. Will eat the leftovers tonight.
Sue, sounds intense with the internship being compressed into 5 weeks but how exciting if you did it in a restaurant that you really admire. Did not realize you have to have a passport that is more than six months from expiration--seems odd to me.
Holly, the picture of Charlotte in her tee shirt was so funny----really did make her look fat!
I advertised our TEMPURPEDIC mattress today---for only 300 which is a really good deal---it's been encased in a sealed cover so it is beautifully new looking---read an article about some others that have had similar back issues once the mattress was broken in. I think it depends on the person. But I am just not getting the rest I used to get and am waking up not feeling great, back especially. We get new mattress on the 10th so if we get a bit for it before that well, then I have a little less guilt---if it doesn't sell the delivery will include hauling it away---just would like someone to take advantage of it.
Sold DH's phone that I bought back from Jean's family---to my yoga teacher who just happened to post on FB that hers was not working and asked people what they suggested she buy. She's picking it up soon.
Leaving early tomorrow---just driving which we sort of enjoy---will give me a chance to start reading my next BC book.

Hi all,
When my vacation started, it seemed like I had all this time. But I go back to work on Tuesday. Thought I might try to teach myself some new knitting stitches, but have been binge watching Call the Midwife and The Walking Dead on Netflix instead.
Used my new bike this morning.
Sue, I need to renew mine soon as well. It expires in November. Good luck with the house search. Yes, that's her. She's only 67, but looks older.
Joan, what season are you on in GG? Haha, yeah Charlotte is not really that fat. She had her leg tucked under her. She is a little chunky though. What book are you reading?

Hi!
Another relaxing day, puttering around the house. Went to the gym and did some errands. Weight is sticking at 123. Yes time is flying by before the start of next quarter, I have next week to enjoy my freedom! I am shoring up my energy for the next 3 months.
Holly, what season are you in TWD? I did not really pay attention to the first 3-4 seasons, then SO got me into it because he would have it on when he was doing his walking around the house (that's how he exercises - he hates the gym).
Joan, how come you didn't fly to Sacramento, don't you normally fly?
Today SO used the machine I got him to make the fruit "ice cream" using only bananas, it's supposed to be soft serve ice cream. I know you can do it with a blender but I think this machine works better.

Sue, we made our final plans so late that the prices even with DH flying free would have used up way too many points---and, n a way, we sort of like driving it once a year or so---crazy, huh? Easier to pack tho' and also we could bring a large bag of DD's christmas things home for her since it wouldn't have worked on the plane so well.
Got here about 4 pm and checked in at motel. Then went over to DD's and we went out to dinner at a new place---food was great---had 3 scallops off the happy hr. Menu and had a salmon salad that was really excellent and very lite dressing---almost none---DH had a steak and 1/3 of my salmon as it was large for having had 3 scallops. Then we had a gelato after walking the length of the mall and back---then hit two other stores and came home---on the way we looked at Christmas light on a few tstreets around DD's--Sacramento people really love lights and whole streets coordinate and do their trees outside to match---one street did red and white stripes and the street looked amazing---these are huge trunks on tree lined streets.
So did SO like the yogurt or ice cream made from the bananas? Did you?

Hi all,
Had dinner with a friend last night. She has two young kids, so I don't get to see her much. Happy New Years Eve. No plans here. My family is going to see the movie Office Christmas Party this afternoon I think.
So does everyone have a healthy lifestyle goal for 2017? Mine is to continue to work on getting into an exercise routine. I want to get back to running again once I get orthotics.
Sue, I'm in Season 2, so not very far in yet.
Joan, you can see more surroundings when you drive too.

Happy New Year's Eve!
Another nice and sunny day, calm and relaxing. I did some more organizing of papers, I'm doing these in small doses so that I don't get overwhelmed. No gym today or tomorrow, they are only open in the mornings and I like my lazy mornings! Especially since I have only 1 more week of it.
Holly, great that you got together with your friend. Yes, that happens when they have kids, then when the kids are in jr high or high school your friends will be more available. I think I want to get more into strength training again for the coming year. I think with cooking I'll be on my feet a lot almost like doing cardio. Not going to get a trainor though, just doing some of the stuff that my old trainor taught me.
Joan, SO and I hate long drives. The street decorations there sound very nice and festive. He did like the texture of the banana ice cream but too "banana" in flavor so he wants to start adding other things to it.
We're ordering out for Chinese tonight, special treat since we rarely do that any more. Actually the last few NYE was when we would order out for Chinese. There will be fireworks at 6pm and at midnight. SO won't make it to the midnight one.
