Hi CJ, Happy New Year to you. I have no plans for midnight except for sitting and crocheting as the new year starts. I'm a night owl anyway so I'm always us at that time. I love your squares but I can see how the little ones like that can be a challenge. It's a smart idea to write out your goals for crafting for the new year. Then you can revise as you go and as you finish some of them. My first goal is to decide what else to make for two grandaughters and ddil for their birthdays and get those done. After that I have a few things I would like to make just because, and also decide what baby things to make for my dgd who is having a baby at the end of May. I hope to have a preliminary list by midnight tonight.
Today I've been watching videos on cooking using an air fryer. Dh saw one he thought was good and bought it so now we need to use it....for more than cooking frozen fries. I didn't know that you could actually cook hard boiled eggs in it. I usually use my instant pot for that but don't like to use it if I'm only making a couple so may try the air fryer and see what happens. I can almost see egg splattered are over the interior. Oh another goal of mine in crafting is to finally get to and complete a simple quilted item. I'll add it to my list.First goal in that is to find something that is small and simple. I wouldn't even mind making a small baby quilt...like a car seat size.
Ginny what have you been up to today? How's the baby quilt coming along?
How about you, Phyl. Are you getting together with any of your family and friends for NYE?
Oh also today I made some more biscuits and some chicken a la king to put on them. The biscuits turned out even better than the last few I've made. I also made chicken soup but still have to put the finishing touches on it.

CJ- your lemoyne star is adorable and I love your workmanship in it!!!! Its so pretty. Not sure I am into making small projects like that. Jane, my quilting buddy likes to work with small pieces...and I think like you (although you did a great job) I would find it frustrating. So happy for you that you identified what you want to make for next year and what projects you are willing to take on. WIth all the different challenges, its tough to decide what we want to work on.. I gather that there will be a new rainbow scrap challenge?? What a nice idea, especially for fabric collectors. Like you, I do not have big plans for tonight. Got a movie on right now...and that will last until 10 when I go to bed (and will probably read awhile).
Ruth, congrats on making some really outstanding biscuits. Did you do something differently or just get lucky with this batch? Biscuits are such a comfort food, which unfortunately I can eat way too much of. Think its a great idea to prioritize what you want to work on next year, and yes, you should try a simple quilting project. I gave Ds an air fryer last year for his birthday- and they are a lot of fun. He tried fried pickles (which he used to order in restaurants) and I thought I would hate them....but they are actually really good. Have fun with the air fryer. Ds made sweet potato fries in it (funny, I did those today for dinner in the oven) and they came out well. You just have to experiment and see what you like. Try a web site like taste of home and just search for recipes for an air fryer. OH! Ds has made hot wings in his air fryer and he says they come out really really well. Have fun with it.
Got the quilt sandwich made today....CJ- do you baste your quilts or use adhesive spray or use safety pins? For the panel quilt, adhesive was perfect. I did some practice stipple and will be working on the quilt tomorrow. Well maybe tonight. I like to stipple and am ready to get started. I am such a thread geek- I love the blue thread I selected to stipple with. Had fun experimenting with it.
Sue, hope you are doing ok and your granddaughter is getting effective medical treatment. You are in my prayers.
Phyl- did you get anywhere with the kitty wall hanging?
Happy New Year all. Stay healthy!!! Ginny

Good morning and Happy New Year! As a young woman, I used to go out with a former boyfriend ( who HAD to be out NYE and frequently drank so much when we were out that I had to drive home). Dh was not a big NYE person, as a matter of fact, I think prided himself on not going out and being asleep by midnight. I ended up watching a movie last night and then went to bed. Got a little bit of crocheting done last night also. So it was a quiet night, but for many years NYE has been a quiet night.
Ruth, you had mentioned being a night owl- that was my natural tendency for sure. Years of being a school bus driver broke me of that habit for sure. I got up late this am 7 am.
I will absolutely get to doing the stipple on the panel quilt this am, and am excited about it. Funny how each of us likes different thing and aspects of quilting. I really enjoy stippling and find it relaxing in a strange way. I know that is not CJ’s favorite part of quilting, but she does beautiful piecework (and gets it done so quickly!).

Good morning and happy new year. I hope this year is better for all. Even those that had a good year can have an even better one. I never was one to go out and celebrate on NYE. When I was young and still living at home my father would often make oyster stew on NYE.I liked it back them but have never made it myself and I sure won't. I can imagine getting things like clams, oysters, mussels, etc here in the middle of nowhere although many people here eat them.I'd be afraid of them being sure food poisoning carriers. The times I did go anywhere it was usually to church functions. I was awake at midnight but dh was sleeping. When we were young and the children at home we always made it a point to be together and with the children at midnight. The kids were thrilled that they got to stay up that late. Sometimes that would happen at my mother's house where she had games and snacks for the kids. Many times I had to work but worked eveining shift and would hurry home or to my mother's house, wherever dh and kids were to be there at mn.Later I worked night shift and a couple times had to work.Long story and I won't go into it.
It's a beauriful sunny day.. The sun is shining after two days of no sun. I'm not sure what I'll be doing the rest of today
Ginny, congrats on getting so much of the stippling done. It's going to be a very nice baby quilt and I hope the recipient, which I think you said is your neice, will appreciate it.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - I'm glad you are making progress on your machine quilting - which as you said, is not my favorite part of making a quilt I'm glad you enjoy it though. Hope you had a nice walk. For my quilts I like to pin baste unless it's a smaller piece that I'm hand quilting and then I thread baste. I did spray baste one piece once but I was at my SIL's house when I did that since we were working on a project together. We basted outside in her driveway. She likes to spray baste but I don't like to spray things in my house since I'm sensitive to a lot of smells. I've heard of people using washable glue to baste too, but I really think that would gum up your machine needle - even though they say it doesn't. The Rainbow Scrap Challenge runs every year. Once a month they tell you the color of the month and you make whatever type of quilting blocks/project you want using that color. It was a good way for me to use scraps and fat quarters last year and I still have lots of both of those so I want to participate again this year. Here's a link to the blogger who runs this: superscrappy.blogspot.com/If you scroll down to the December 26th post you can see all the quilters at the end who have linked up to show some of their finished projects for the year. I like to check out this blog every Saturday since that is when quilters post what they are working on. Ruth - It's nice for you to have a beautiful sunny day for the 1st day in January, hope you enjoy the rest of your day. Phyl and Sue - Hope you are having a good day. It's cloudy here today with some rain, and it's cold. I'm trying to get some things organized, I really have trouble focusing on one thing so having calendars and lists help. After making those quilting goals the other day, I realized they might be a bit optimistic, so I'll try to focus on the things I really want to do. There are just so many quilt challenges and groups to participate in and I can't do them all even though I'd like to I did feel excited to get my hand-pieced quilt sampler out to finish the hand quilting. So I threaded some needles today and I'm going to try to work on it a little bit each day. This quilt has 6 blocks, along with sashing and borders. I had already quilted one block, so I'll work on the rest of them one at a time. Take care everyone

Ruth, Hope you had a pleasant day yesterday and enjoyed the sun brightly shining through your windows. A special treat for what can be dreary weather in winter. What did you end up working on yesterday?
CJ- thanks for the link to the scrap challenge! Don’t know why, but I thought they also suggested a block for the challenge. Heck I can hardly keep up with projects I have, so I think I will pass.....can you imagine the number of quilts we would have in our homes if we made ALL the quilts we have our eyes on? What I like about your “to do “ list for 2021 is that it does give you structure, and perhaps you will deviate from it a bit, or even try to accomplish it all. Love hearing that you got to start on the hand pieced quilt sampler. A nice comforting project that does not require machine use.
Got pretty far with the stippling last night but toward the end I had tension issues. Will have to rip some out....but not too much I hope. BBL Ginny

Good afternoon all although it's evening now where you ladies are.
Ginny, its good to hear you got a lot of the stippling done but I'm sorry to hear that you had tension issues. I used to have a lot of problems with tension on my previous machines. I hope you don't have to take too much out.
CJ I especially liked the umbrella and the teapot quilts they showed but it just seems like something is missing. Were those supposed to be completed quilt tops?
So far today I have got checking my email, message boards, andcrochet groups all read for now. Then I did more baking..more biscuits, corn muffins, and more cookies.
Now I plan to spend the rest of the day crocheting so we'll see how that goes.

Ruth, how do you manage to bake so much without opening up your own bakery? Love them all, biscuits, corn muffins and cookies...Yum. I know your Dh appreciates your talent in the kitchen for sure. Were you able to get any crocheting in?
Gonna sit down shortly and work on taking out the small section of stippling that needs help. Hope I can make the necessary adjustment to the machine (which might just be rethreading) so I can finish the project.
My friend sent me a text asking if she could stop over for a few minutes. (DD was here). Of course I said it was ok.....she went to see her sister yesterday- but i figured that this was something with one of her adult kids. Her sister works for a division of Rowenta. Somehow there was a shipment of irons (the pricey $100 ones) which had horribly damaged boxes therefore making them unsellable. Her sister gave 2 irons to my friend for free- as they would be discarded because they could not be sold. My iron was my mom’s- an old basic iron- certainly not a rowenta!! So thankful for it- and it sure looks great on my ironing station in my sewing room. Looking forward to using it when I start on the binding.
Have a good night all G

wow, Ginny, that's fantastic!! I so happy for you that you got a great iron.
I did get some crocheting done and am about to go back to it. I'm working on the pockets for my latest pocket shawl. Two more to go.
See you all tomorrow

Ruth, I know you don't mind working on the pockets- but attaching them is not your favorite part of the process.I am sure the pocket shawl will come out great. Did you have to modify the directions for your gd or ggd who is a bit shorter?
Cloudy here with some light snow. Think we are supposed to get a light snow today, hope DS gets home safely from work today as he will be coming home in the middle of it. Supposed to play at church again this am...but there is not supposed to be much snow at that time.
I did rip some stitching out last night but did not finish it as I needed better lighting and was too lazy to move to my craft light which is now in my sewing room.
See ya later

Hello Everyone Ginny - Hope you don't get too much snow, we're getting rain here. And I hope your DS makes it home safely. Also hope you can get the ripping out done so you can finish machine quilting the panel. What a wonderful gift to get a Rowenta iron. I have a Rowenta that I love and wish they were still making the same model since it's older, I'd buy a new one. Ruth - You sure have done a lot of baking, hope you and your DH have been enjoying the treats. Hope you make some progress on the pockets for the shawls. I'm not sure what blogs you were looking at might it might have been quilters just showing a block they've been working on. Since the Rainbow Scrap Challenge goes all year long most of the pictures posted each week are just of blocks. They don't show the finished quilts until the end of the year. Phyl - Hope you are getting to do some crafting. I think I'm going to revise those yearly goals I've already posted. I do want to do the Rainbow Scrap Challenge and I've sorted out my PINK scraps which is the January color. I still want to make some strip blocks and if I like doing them, then I'll do them for the year. I cut out some foundation pieces this morning from muslin and I sorted my pink strips. I'm just kind of hung up on whether I should trim the strips to an exact size like 1.5 and 2.5 inches or just use them as they are, which is close to these sizes. I also want to piece together my tumbler blocks, that should be pretty easy since I already have most of them cut out and sorted by color. I think the other quilt I might make is a rainbow Sudoku quilt. For this quilt I'm planning to cut 2 1/2 inch blocks each month in the monthly color and then save them all up until October when the colors are done and make 9 Sudoku blocks using the different colors. I made a Christmas Sudoku quilt a few years ago and enjoyed the process, so I think it will be fun to make a rainbow colored one. I've also done some hand quilting on my finished hand pieced top. I do want to try to get this done by the end of January, so I've been threading up 6 needles at a time and then using them and re-threading. This quilt has the backing folded to the front (since this is how they taught us in the class I took that made this quilt) so I'm going to do the binding this way and stitch it down on the front. Take care and have a good day!

What I love about this thread is I learn something from everyone....CJ- never heard of a sudoku quilt but I just looked one up. What a cute idea and its an adorable idea. Are you planning on using fabrics that you have. As far as your pink strips go, I think that you might find it easier to cut them to a specific size, but it all depends upon what you are planning on using them for, what kind of quilt. Glad you are getting those needles preloaded with thread, its work in the beginning but saves a lot of aggravation as you work on the hand quilting. I just did that with bobbins and it saved me a lot of frustration and having to rethread the machine to make more bobbins. Folding the backing over to the front is a nice way to finish a quilt, and makes a nice beveled corner. (A Quilt I finished for my DSIL was done using that method). Think especially because the quilt is being hand sewn, its a nice way to finish it. Did you get much rain?? Think this system that is bringing me snow, blessed you with more rain. Its not a big system, so I doubt you got much.
I am still taking out some stitching from the stippling, but am almost done with that. Because the stipple covers a lot of surface, there is a lot to remove even if its only a small section (about 10% of the quilt top). I might finish tonight, and might not. Thought I was babysitting tomorrow but Dd and her kids have colds and in an abundance of caution, she does not want me to watch them. Normally, I would have just gone over and let the chips fall.....Dd is completely convinced its a cold but is just being super careful. So I can quilt tomorrow and the rest of the week also. DD#2 finds out on MLK day if she is carrying a boy or girl, and I really want this quilt done by then so I can work on a quilt for her baby. Ds made it home safely from work (thank you Lord) and its lightly snowing now. Think we are only supposed to get 2 - 4 inches. Not a big snowfall at all.
Ruth, Sue and Phyl hope that you had a good Sunday. Ginny
