luanne, So far they have only given permits for protest to two groups which aren't related to Trump. They had to limit to 100 people, they will be escorted to their protest area and then have to stay there. Hope the National Park Service knows what they are doing. Otherwise with all the troops in the DC I would think any spontaneous protests will be quickly dealt with, but who knows at this point. The Washington Post did a chronology of what happened in DC and the Capitol. They started with Trump's 12/19 tweet where he asked his followers to come to the Capitol to "fix" the election. Then they listed on the intel that was received and decisions made for troops and back up. The two sergeant at arms really screwed up. Then they went through the events of the 6th, the trying to get back-up and when the back-up arrived. It was war.

I was watching Fareed Zakaria this morning. He had a guest, Cynthia Miller-Idriss, her latest book is Hate In The Homeland. Her take on the people who decided to attack the Capitol: they are simultaneously afraid of having something taken away (jobs, cultural control, whatever) and feeling entitled to what they fear they are losing or will lose. Her point is these are not people in economic distress per se, it is more existential. Oh, and she doesn't see a quick way out what with the alternative reality that has been established in so many minds. Bleh. And she opined that it's a global problem, not just here in the U.S.

*sigh* just unfriended another one. She posted something about "the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants" from Thomas Jefferson, so she's still supporting a violent uprising. I reported the post to fb and unfriended and blocked her.
The irony is: these people want to keep a tyrant in office and they just don't see it.

Well, sure, but people aren't born with these attitudes. Is it parenting, some lack inside that needs to be filled by feeling superior to someone, anyone, or what?

It occurs to me that maybe, just maybe, open carry/firearms laws should be amended for all states so that no one, other than law enforcement, military or guards(personal or government) should be allowed to carry firearms within, I don't know -500 ft? -of a government building.

Another example of alternate reality: accountability is a bad thing lol. She really does not get that words have weight. Freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from the consequences of your words. It's not "cancel culture" to arrest someone for yelling fire in a theater, and it's not "cancel culture" to be fired from your job for trying to overthrow the government. Loeffler rips cancel culture and 'dangerous narratives' in farewell address
