Hello Ruth - I'm glad your bread turned out good, now you have a good recipe to use. I've found that I can reduce the fat and sugar in a lot of recipes and they taste just as good. Ginny - Your stippling looks great, that is a pretty baby quilt, the soft blues and gold/yellows go so well together. It was cloudy and cold here today. I cleaned out my older sewing machine today and put in a new needle. I still need to pull out the newer machine (I keep it in a box in the closet) and get it oiled and cleaned. I had cut some of those pink scraps into 1.5 inch strips and I sewed together a group of those today too and trimmed it up to about 5x7 inches. I may try to do that for all the 1.5 inch strips by color each month this year and then figure out what to do with them later. At least that will use up small strips from my scraps. One of the quilt bloggers I read is starting a new Mystery Scrap quilt today. I did the one she had last year and liked the pattern, and would make it again. One thing I like about her patterns is that she gives several size options. Last year I just did the 24x24, this time I might try the 36x36, but I'll see. She is going to use a dark fabric for her background and I'd like to try that too, since I've never done one like that. Here's a link to her post today if you want to read it: frommycarolinahome.com/2021/01/08/scrap-dance-pachanga-mystery-quilt-along/I don't always do well with picky scrappy fabrics, so I might stick with one or two bright colors that would go well on a dark background. Hope you are getting to do some crafting today. Take care and have a good weekend

Ginny, that quilt is so cute and your stippling looks great! I haven't look for the quilt panel yet. I have to wade through yarn in order to reach the bins of fabric. Actually I have a roll away bed in front of the bins so have to move those.
CJ, those bright colors she shows at the top are very nice.
I haven't done much today but cook. I hope to spend the rest of the day crocheting or reading about crocheting.

CJ- think you should do just fine with scrappy colors...think if you are going to use bright colors, like the designer has selected, well, all those jewel tones seem to do pretty well together, especially in a scrappy quilt. Go bold...use the dark background...and seriously all the other strong colors will be just fine together. Think the only way you could mess up would be if you decided to mix in a pastel or two, which would be dominated by the deeper fabrics. Try looking at pictures of other scrappy quilts and get inspired by them. Hope that you try the larger quilt too! I agree its nice when you are given size options based upon what your final plans are for the quilt. Good for you getting one machine oiled and cleaned...
Ruth, hope that you found something pleasant to do- either a nice book or a great crocheting project. Can you take a break from cooking for a day or so? I know you are a great cook (if I lived in your house, I would be morbidly obese with all the great stuff you make) Just noticed that you will be reading about crocheting- wonder what good patterns you will find!!!
Well I got the binding ironed and attached to the baby quilt- except for the final join. Tomorrow I will finish it, I hope. That gives me next week to start looking at patterns for baby quilts.. think I will crochet a while this evening. Ginny

Hello - Hope you are all doing well today Phyl - Hope you are getting some crafting done. Ruth - Hope you were able to get to some crocheting yesterday and today too. Ginny - I'm glad you finished putting the binding on, except for the final join and hope that you were able to finish it today. How do you do your binding? Do you sew it onto the front? Do you join it at the end diagonally? Do you hand finish or finish it by machine? I've been working on some machine quilting today and got 4 small pieces quilted. I still have the blue and white one to do and hope to get it done maybe tomorrow. I was using a natural color thread for the others, but I really want to use white thread for this last piece since the colors in it are bright white. Now I have 9 quilts ready to do the binding on them. I'm kind of nervous about that, since I haven't done much binding. I figure I'll pick the one I like the least and start with it I guess worst case scenario is that I'd have to take the binding off and start over. I'm O.K. with making the binding and sewing it on but it's the joining at the end that I'm not that good at (just making sure it fits). I did buy one of those Binding Tool rulers and I'm going to try it and maybe it will make it a lot easier. I also want to try to finish some of these bindings by machine, since most of these were just little fun things to make and I don't need to put the time into hand finishing them. I'll save the hand finishing for the quilts I like the best. I can tell by the quilting I did today that I'm not going to be able to do my larger quilts at home. I really think they need to be done on a longarm. Hopefully things will be better with the virus later this year or early next year and I can take one of those longarm classes at a quilt shop again and get some of my quilts done like that. I counted up the number of lap size or larger quilt tops that need to be quilted - is anyone interested in guessing how many there are? There's a prize for the person who comes the closest It's a pretty sunny day here today and in the 40s, so a nice winter day. Hope your weather is nice too. Take care

www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GVA05MxXTUCJ- check out this video from Jenny Doan at MSQ- this is pretty much what I do to attach a binding. I did not get the binding finished on the baby quilt....spent the day at DD’s did some crocheting while there....but with the other things I had to do today did not have time to sew. Will get it done tomorrow. Anyway, the reason I follow these directions and for a baby quilt will attach by machine, is that with a baby quilt, it will be washed a lot and the decorative stitching is pretty. For my 96x96” BOM, I attached to the front of the machine, and folded it over to the back. And I finished that by hand. ( took a long time!!). The final attachment of the binding to close it is easy- and turns out really well. Overlap the two binding ends by 2 1/2 inches (total width of the binding) and make the diagonal join (think Jenny describes it). Do you have wonder clips? (They are like small plastic laundry clips). They hold the binding in nicely without having to get pins to go through all that fabric. Long day....gonna get some sleep. Hi to Ruth and Phyl....anyone else who stops in

CJ, not being a quilter I dont' really know what to say but I do think that you do a great job. My guess is that you have 47. Ok I know I'm wrong....probably not even close.
Ginny, well you'll get that binding finished soon I'm sure.
I watched most of the Bill's/Colts game today. I missed only the first few minutes. They were my team, of course, when I lived back there. I don't know if they can go further this year or not but I guess next week depends on who they have to play and I'm sure if they, by some miracle would happen to get to the Super Bowl it would be another loss. In fact I doubt they could beat the Chiefs who they would most likely have to play if the end up winning next week
Then it's been mostly crocheting since and a little bit of reading while I ate and short time after that.

Yes, I do the diagonal join (90% of the time) and am bringing the binding to the front to finish- which is why I am going to use a decorative stitch to finish. The BOM I brought the binding to the back, but the intent was to hand finish it, which I did. A few years ago I took a class at the LQS making 4 placemats....which I knew was a wonderful opportunity to get practice with bindings.
Ruth, my DSIL#1 is also a big Bills fan- and while I am not I am happy for the fans and the Bills. Been a long time coming for sure. Like you, I do not know if they can go further, do not even know who they play next. But its an exciting time if you are a football fan....I usually enjoy watching this time of year. I usually stop watching football if certain teams and up being the only ones playing. Are you still working on the pocket shawl for DGD???
Church this am, and then I expect I will put some football on and finish the baby quilt. That gives me some time off from the machine, and I am thinking of getting the falling charms quilt finally assembled. I know I have a lot of the rows already put together, and need to join the rows to finish the top. BBL G

Hello Ginny - Thanks for the video link and the information on how you like to bind. I enjoyed the video and I'll give that method a try. Hope you enjoy church and the football today. And I hope you can finish the baby quilt and start on the falling charms quilt. Ruth - I'm glad you were able to enjoy some football too and also get some crocheting and reading done. You were close with your guess on quilt tops I still need to quilt. I have 38 tops that I consider Lap Size or larger that need to be quilted. I also have 42 tops that are smaller - more like wall hanging and table runner sizes. My goal this year is to work through quilting the tops from that smaller size group. I did finish quilting the small blue and white piece yesterday, and that was the last one of the group that I had pulled to work on. I'll have to decide if I want to bind them before doing more quilting or work on some more tops. I've been checking out quilting blogs and Facebook pages today, that might be all the crafting I do unless I get motivated to get back to my hand quilting. Have a good day!

Baby quilt is DONE- just have to wash it and clip threads.
I like most of the MSQk videos (as I am sure you do also) because they are so down to earth and practical. I know most directions have the binding attached to the front and sewn to the back- but i finished this quilt with a nice zigzag stitch- like the way it looks. Did you find anything good on the blogs and FB pages? Glad you finished the small blue and white quilt...I know I have no right to say a thing but as its small, why not try quilting it and binding it? Small means easier to practice on, right???
Think I am going to put on some football, search online for baby patterns for quilts and crochet.; Hope Ds is ok with a frozen pizza or something super easy for dinner.
I did end up going for a nice walk with a woman from my bible study after church. She is a lot younger than I am but good company.
Have a great day all G

Ginny, congratulations on getting the quilt completely done...well except for washing and clipping. And looking thru patterns is a great way to spend a nice afternoon. I really think I'm more interested in looking for patterns and watching people crochet on videos than making things myself. I think the Bill's opponent for next week depends on who wins today. Back in the 90's, as I'm sure you know already, they went to the Super Bowl 4 times and lost each time. This year I would be surprised if they got there at all. It would be great though even if they did end up losing.
CJ, to you also I think looking online for patterns and pictures of completed quilts is a great thing to do. I love watching people make them but usually those videos go to fast for me to really see what they're doing. As for the diagonal binding attachment method, a woman at Caps for Kids group that I used to go to tried to teach me a couple times and I really didn't get it but I haven't actually tried it yet.
Made dh some more cookies today then went back to crocheting. Right now I'm working on a tote bag for dgd who's bday is Feb 3rd. I have her pocket shawl done except for putting on the pockets. I've started the PS for the dgd who's bday is in the middle of March but thought I should get all the items for the other dgd done first then work on the things for other dgd and ddil
