Good morning and Happy Monday!
All crafters are welcome here as we discuss crafting, life and our weight loss journey. Crafting includes actual hands on crafting, such as crochetting, knitting, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, painting, jewelry making, etc.....plus reading craft catalogs, craft blogs, watching craft you tubes or other crafting videos, chatting here about crafting, chatting with another person about crafting, reading craft emails, thinking about crafting, organizing crafting supplies, going into craft stores or the craft aisle in a store , attending craft fairs,or any other activity that inspires or directs your mind toward a crafting activity- even visiting us here to join in our posts!! There are plenty of days in which the closest we get to crafting is a visit here, so even if you have no time to craft, we would love to hear from you. We welcome newcomers to our friendly discussion! So glad you are here!! Please feel free to stop in and say hello!!

Morning all!
Ruth, back in the stone ages (when I was a kid.....) water came from fountains, your faucet, or even the backyard hose. (And somehow, I survived). but I do understand- most kids now carry water bottles, whether its the refillable kind or single use. Pretty neat that you have found a pattern to make water bottle carriers..that is insane that you had to go through so many different hook sizes to realize that the pattern must be messed up. Having made hats and dolls, I know you would be able to figure out how to make a bottle holder. Will you use grommets to attach a hook? Lots of kids like hanging the bottles off their backpacks. I gotta say as a school bus driver, I always felt that the water bottles were the worst thing going. They frequently fall out of the pockets designed for them on a back pack or leak water all over the seat if the cap becomes loose. Anyway, I am sure you will have no trouble designing something yourself that works. Forgive me for messing up the colors and granddaughters- I do not always read as carefully as I should.
Did get a few rows of crocheting in last night. All packed up and ready for my trip to HL in a little bit. G

The end of the day gets busy for me, so I will check in now. Got my errands done this am- pretty much got everything I wanted from Christmas tree shops. The store was a bit difficult to negotiate, they have reorganized the store, and not everything is in the same space, making it a challenge finding what I was looking for. Remember when CJ and I were looking for brown gravy mix? Well now I cannot find thyme (ground). dd has looked for me, I have looked for myself and CTS did not have it either. I do not use it that much and can substitute poultry seasoning for it (which has thyme in it).
Total success in HL- and got the fabric I wanted, and was able to use the 40% off coupon. Now I can put the border on the quilt and send it out to MSQ to have it quilted. Its a smaller quilt and so it will not be that pricey. And I saved a lot by providing the backing fabric. Its a simple quilt, will take pics when I get it back from being long armed.
Have a great day all G

Hello Everyone Ginny - I'm glad you found the fabric you needed at HL. I look forward to seeing a picture of the finished quilt. I've made a Falling Charms and I think the nice thing about the pattern is that is shows off the fabric. Hope you can find some thyme eventually. The shortages have been strange. Ruth and Phyl - Hope you are getting some crafting in today. Thanks for your comments on my fabrics for the possible house blocks, I appreciate the input. I pulled one fat quarter out and pressed and cut it this morning and hopefully I can put the block together in a few days and see if I like it. The worst thing about this block is all the cutting. I need to print off a paper with the instructions in larger print and broken down by background and house fabric, because I've gotten confused a few times and cut the wrong fabric. I also cut some fabric for a few other blocks and I changed my mind on the fabrics for the Scrappy quilt along that started a few weeks ago. I'm still using the black fabric as the background but I pulled out some other assorted bright fabrics to make it look more scrappy since that was suggested to me by the quilter running the quilt along. Once I get them all cut, I'll share a picture with you. It's cold here today, but it was sunny most of the day. I think the rest of the week is supposed to be the same. Hope your weather is nice. Take care

CJ- Hope I made some sense with my fabric comments. Looking forward to seeing the scrappy quilt fabrics when you get a chance to post pics. Yes it appears as though the house blocks are a ton of cutting... not sure I have the patience for that.
Babysitting again tomorrow.....catch up with you some time tomorrow. G

Guess we're all from the stone age. Plastic bottles of water were never found. And Ginny, even I can't keep up with all my grandkids and their likes and dislikes. I know my youngest grandaughter's favorite color (of course, pink) and my dd's youngest daughter's favorite. My son's second daughter use to favor purple but now that she's almost 17 (on my goodness, how can she be almost 17 already???) she probably no longer has a favorite. She's the one I'm making the next pocket shawl for and it will have some purple in it just in case. It will be the HOmespun because I found out just today that I have enough. The color is called gemstone stripes but there are no stripes in it and it won't make stripes but it does have some nice colors in it besides an amethyst color.
I'm so glad you were able to find the fabric you wanted for your quilt. I can't wait to see the finished product.Have a good time with the little grandchildren tomorrow. Wasn't today the gender reveal day? Did you find out?
CJ, you had such a good idea in planning to cut down on your stash by making more quilt tops and disposing of small scraps of fabric you can't use but held onto for a "just in case" moment. So today I decided to copy you. I've already put some small amounts of yarns in a plastic bag and will add to it as time goes on and eventually put it in a bag of things that are to be donated to the Rescue Mission's store. Many people do look for small scraps of yarn to make things like gloves to dust with and also use it for filling for ami's.I used to save my scraps for that but I still have more than enough of that big box of fiberfill I bought several years ago to last a long time yet.The sun kinda peeked out a couple times today but it also snowed and we also had some of that stuff that looks like foam pellets fall...forget what it's called...something with a G.Oh, graupel.
Tried to put in my order for pickup tomorrow but site says technical difficulties. Said the same last night. It was ok this morning but I wasn't realy to order then. Had to remember what I needed to add. Guess we'll be going wed instead.

Good morning all! At Dds babysitting and doing so on my phone so I cannot read the previous posts. Will do the best I can.
Yes CJ has a great idea to get rid of those scraps....unless you have specific plans for them. I used small scraps 2 years ago to help girls make Christmas ornaments- but that is not something you would do every day. Looking forward to seeing what the house blocks look like- that should be on my project list as something I always wanted to do.
Ruth - I looked up that homespun color on the Internet and it’s very pretty. Indeed in homespun yards the colors are less distinct than a variegated yarn- but I love how the colors just seem to merge together. You have so many grandkids- and it’s a juggling act keeping everyone’s likes and dislikes straight. Hope you can get your grocery order placed!! These systems are great when they work.
Found out that DD#2 is carrying a little boy. She and Dsil are pleased - all I want is healthy. It will be nice as he can play with Dgs#2. Now gotta figure out a quilt to make.

GOOD MORNING Ginny, the fabric will go in my bay window covering some wooden boxes Don made for me.I set decorations on the boxes to raise them.
we did return to Christopher and Banks yesterday. They did put out more corduroy jackets and I got my size,. plus a vest and sweatshirt. got good prices as they are going out of business.
that leaves us Penny's and Kohl's ,we do have a TORRID and MARUICES most people our age to do not we still have a Target not sure if it is just the younger crowd that buys their clothes or not. THEY changed that department around years ago. we have have WALMART.seems to me their clothes run small.
oh yeah wonder if the younger generation with all this online ordering will learn the 'MAKE DO RULE and the rest of that saying like we did.
I really need to get this upstairs back in order.. have a wonderful day. PHYL

Phyl- wrapping those boxes in holiday appropriate fabric is a nice way to change decor, no sew also.. Sounds pretty setting up a display for Valentine’s Day. Gotta say, its been years (since the kids were really little) since I decorated for much other than Thanksgiving and Christmas. Dh was not the romantic type and did not appreciate it anyway. Glad you were able to get some good deals on a vest and a sweatshirt.. but a shame that that store is going out of business... I am not a big fan of Target- I know some folks love them, just not me. Target is a store of last resort, after I have struck out at Kohl’s, Walmart etc.....Pennys I do well for some items, and same with Kohl’s. Kohls can be hit or miss. Not sure if the cheap clothing sold in a lot of stores today is meant to be worn for more than a season or two- which means that the “make do “ rule is a bit challenging. But I hear you, we just kept on using what we had, fixing it, or repurposing it or whatever to get the most usage out of clothes. Different world today, for sure.
Got no crafting done....gonna work on some crocheting later on. G

Hello Everyone Ruth - I'm sorry you couldn't get a date for grocery pickup, hope you can get to the store or get a time soon. I'm happy to have motivated you to get rid of small amounts of yarn I can still remember how strange it seemed that you could buy water in a bottle - it always used to be free Ginny - I'm glad everyone is excited about a boy and that he'll have other children to play with. I look forward to seeing what quilt you make for the baby. Phyl - I'm glad you were able to find some clothes to buy, it's too bad that store is going out of business. There are so few stores open anymore that cater to clothes for a demographic that prefer classic styles. I know I can't find anything around where I live I have to buy it all online. I went out grocery shopping this morning and now I'm stocked well for about 3 weeks. It had been 3 weeks since I last went. I still miss going each week and getting a smaller order, but maybe it will get back to that one day. I went in one grocery store first just to get some of their rotisserie chicken and baked turkey breast. I like their hot chickens and was glad to pick them up for meals this week. I started to walk in the store and then realized I hadn't put on my mask It's been a few weeks since I went anywhere where I had to go inside and I forgot! I stepped back from the door and put it on before going in. At the second store where I got my larger order I was buying a service card for my Tracfone (the phone I use as a backup to my main cell phone) and when I got home I realized I didn't have the card - the cashier hadn't handed it back to me. I called the store and she had kept it there and they are holding it at the office, so I have to go back tomorrow or Thursday and get it. The store is pretty far away or else I would have gone back this afternoon. So I'm tired now that all that is over and the groceries are put away so I probably won't get to any quilting. Hopefully I will the next few days. I know a lot of people love to keep all those small scraps of fabric, but I don't do the kind of quilting/applique to use them, so I'm glad to be able to get my scraps organized this year. Take care and have a good day!

PHyl, when i used to shop I loved Christopher and Banks. I first heard of them when I went to a work conference in Minneapolis and a couple women were there that lived in Minnesota and asked me if I would like to go with them to the Mall of America. I found some great bargains so I also went to the one here at our one and only mall. I haven't been to the mall in years though so I don't know what stores are still there.I just recently donated some of the clothing I bought and C and B that still had the tags on them. I definitely make do and when I do buy clothing it's only jeans so I shop at thrift stores. The rescue Misson's store has people donate really good brands but I don't even go there often because my clothes last a long time. I don't care about fashion and really don't go anywhere to need so called fashionable clothing.
Ginny, congrats on the new grandson! I know you would be happy regardless if boy or girl.
CJ, that's terrible that you will have to go all the way back to your store to pick up the card that the cashier forgot to give you. I have a tracfone too but buy my time online.
We did go pick ;up our groceries today after all. It was a glitch that caused me to have to go on the site in a different way but I was able to get on it in time to pick out an open spot for today. Got home and found we ended up with a extra gallon of milk that we didn't order and were not charged for. They didn't have eggs so we'll have to go back soon to buy eggs. Luckily, among the food items the neighbor gave us a couple months ago was a carton of frozen eggs which I can use for baking or even for scrambled eggs for that matter but I do think we'll go back soon.

I do not wrap the boxes. just arrange the wooden boxes and throw the fabric over the top, works for me.
I Just buy what I like ,jeans, sweatshirts, jackets (better hold off on more) tennis hoes ,sandals, tee shirts. once in awhile I have to break down for a little more dressy pants or top.
one store I miss is northern reflections they had the best tees and sweat shirts ever.PHYL

Good morning all, Got home later than I thought I would yesterday- Dd was having friends over for company yesterday (what was she thinking on a week night??) and the meal she had planned did not work out....she had meat in her instant pot (Which I noted was on but never checked on) and for some reason it did not cook it (meat was only partially cooked). So I saw her panic and decided to stay and take care of the baby while she figured out what she was going to quickly put together in place of her originally planned meal.
CJ- that sure stinks about the tracfone card! Hope that whatever day you decide to go back for it, that there is nice weather and its a pleasant ride.. I know shopping is no fun these days, the whole ordeal we have to go through just does not make sense,- directional arrows on the store floor, masks and the strange availability (or lack of said) of certain items. Have you ever been able to find the canned carrots you were looking for??
Phyl- guess I figured you were just loosely wrapping the boxes, or as you said, throwing the fabric over them. A nice easy way to decorate.
Ruth-Hope you and Dh are able to do something with the extra gallon of milk! I had that happen with my last BJ’s order, where they doubled all the dairy items ( and did not charge me). Thanks for the reminder of frozen eggs- perhaps its a good idea for me to pick up some liquid eggs, they keep very well and I do not eat eggs, just bake or cook with them. Glad you were able to get that order in and picked up.
Got a little bit of crocheting in last night. Have a few phone calls to make today, some insurance issues to clear up. G

Ruth - I'm glad you were able to get your groceries. Ginny - Hope you can get your insurance issues cleared up and your phone calls made. I've spent some time over the last few days trying to set up online accounts for my credit cards, and got most of them set up. I've also been trying electronic paying through my bank and that seems to be working well. It's a tough transition for me, but I think it is necessary since I've had bills arriving late now and my checks not making it to where I've mailed them too. I wanted to let you know I finished another of the house blocks, with some adjusted pieces to remove the quilt block in the bottom right. I don't know if I'd recommend this pattern to any of you, since some of it just doesn't quite line up. Notice how the two bottom sides of the roof don't line up with the top of the house? I know I'm not the most accurate at cutting and piecing, but it seems like it should line up better and the final block shouldn't have to be trimmed that much. I don't know if I'll make any more of these. I think I'd be just as well to cut up the fat quarters and make some other quilt without so much cutting and piecing. I'll think about it. I need to pull out an actual quilt project to work on, I'm getting tired of all these blocks Take care everyone!

CJ, I do see where they don't line up and I think that you're better at piecing and sewing the pieces than you think so I do think you're wise to let the houses go. Why force yourself to make things you're not happy doing or not happy with the finished product. I LOVE the fabric you used for the house.
Ginny, I'd be in a huge panic if my meat hadn't cooked and I was planning on it for company dinner. It was great of you to stay and take care of things while she decided what to substitute. I've never cooked meat in my instant pot. I didn't think it would end up having the flavor it should have.I have a beef roast to cook today but it will probably be in the crock pot and I'd better get busy and put it in there. It's not for company though so doesn't matter too much when it will be done. This is the last beef we have in the freezer and beef is ridiculously priced at WAlmart so unless we feel inspired to go to the other side of town and shop in person this will be it for beef for awhile.I don't care for beef but dh likes it.We mostly eat chicken which is why I appreciated the chicken recipe you sent. I'll be making that soon.
