Ginny, yes your situation is much different than mine so it's a good idea to get the vaccine. With us mostly staying home I don't feel that we have a great need plus I'm unsure about taking something that has not been proven and has been rushed through
Yes you'd be surprised at the companies that sell yarn. It's not surprising that Fabric.com sells yarn because most fabric places do I think but the Pens N More surprised me. I've also bought yarn at Office Supply at an excellent price and they had yarn that I couldn't find elsewhere.I'm still undecided about the pockets on the shawl. I also ordered some deep purple that might go with it as it has some deep purple in the mix. I think I'll make a couple swatches and see which of the three choices looks best. I didn't check the rest of Fabric.com's website. I had put the yarn in a search and a the same yarn from different places came up with prices listed. I just clicked on that yarn and it took me right there so I didn't explore the site.

Hello Ginny - I hope you can get your appointment soon. Ruth - I'm glad you found some yarn that might work for your project. Phyl and Sue - Hope you are doing well. It was cold and windy here today and I think it's supposed to be about the same tomorrow. We might get some snow on Sun-Mon. I went out this morning to put gas in my car and picked up a few groceries so I wouldn't have to go out next week at all in case we did get snow. I cut a lot of the pieces for the blocks with the 9 patch in the center on the Norway quilt, so I'm ready to start assembling the blocks. I hope I can get to that over the next few days. Take care everyone!

Good evening, Gee, Ruth I never would have thought that Pens and More or Office supply would sell yarn!!! Just really glad you were able to get the yarn you were looking for... think that is a great idea to make prototype pockets and see which yarn works the best. Love the internet....so easy to shop in the comfort of home!!!
CJ- you are in for the same storm as me, really glad to hear that you got your shopping done and can stay in and quilt. Are you supposed to get much snow? Looking forward to seeing your Norway quilt- even if you are using all the same fabrics that are shown with the pattern (they are so pretty.)
Well, I did not get my shot today- they did not give the county as many doses as originally thought and they had to turn people away, so they had no extras. I hope I can get the shot next week. Its so cold and windy out there, I am glad I did not have to go out again tonight. I did get some work done on the quilt (falling charms) and got the border almost all attached. Its a colorful quilt...and I am looking forward to seeing it quilted.
Have a good night all- stay warm!! Ginny

Great job Ginny, your quilt top is beautiful. Is this the one you'll be sending out to have quilted? Dh decided he wanted to go somwhere just for fresh air so we went to an isolated park like place where he did a little metal detecting. I didn't walk because it was still too slushy and snow in a lot of spots as well as muddy so I didn't want to take a chance of slipping and falling. We had stopped at themailbox on the way and I found that I had received my EIC in the form of a debit card. Miracles do happen . I also got a letter from a nursing school friend so read that while dh did his "thing". I was hoping to have a letter from the grandaughters but there was none there. The rest of the day may be spent attempting to, once again, bring order to my craft room then crocheting. Craft room is probably a lot cause but I'll go in and see where I can start. Have a great day all and I'll see you all later

Good evening, Ruth, glad that you and Dh got out for a little bit -looks like your daytime high was pretty pleasant- and a good day to be out and about. Fresh air is always a good thing. Congrats on getting your stimulus money!!!! Wow- how nice that you did not have to pull teeth to get it this time. Hope that you do get a letter from your granddaughters- are you expecting one?
Well, long story, but I decided I will quilt this quilt myself. Watched some youtubes and I am going to try it- not just random stipple but a design. And if that works out, I will resort to random stipple. Just went to HL to get the thread and pins I will need for that. I must be nuts... G

Thank you Phyl and Ginny. Yes I'm glad my teeth and hair are saved.
Phyl, it's great to see that you didn't have any side effects from the vaccine. I hope your second one will be problem free also.
Ginny, well it's always a good thing to try to gain new skills or to improve the skills we have. I'm sure you will be good at it and if not on the first try then you know what they say. So no, it's not crazy to try.Yes it was very warm today. I'm not sure what the temp got up to but before we left our thermometer said 53.It was windy though. For awhile there my youngest grandaughters wrote me about every couple weeks. I haven't heard from them all this month though so was hoping for letters. I'll write them each one and that way will maybe get one back. I did answer their last letter but they do keep busy with their home schooling, school coop, church, other activities and chores.
CJ, I hope you had a good day and I hope you and Ginny don't get too much snow. I'm glad you went out yesterday to prepare for this storm that's to be in your area.

Phyl- so very glad that you got through the first shot just fine. Many do....but I have heard that the second shot can be a bit more problematic. I know 3 individuals who are getting their second shot this week- will let you know how they do. Thanks for the advice on trying to free motion. I do random stipple ok- have plenty of batting with fabric leftover from what was trimmed from my BOM. I know its gonna take a ton of practice and youtube time. Hope that your chiro adjustment/treatment works well for you and that you are feeling better.
Ruth, I was going to suggest that you write to your granddaughters. You are continuing a “lost art” of letter writing. I am sure they enjoy getting your letters....Of course, texting or emailing is easier, but there is a real talent to writing....being able to write in such a way that things make sense and the reader gets a feel of what is in your heart. I am sure your letters are a blessing to your family and also a wonderful keepsake for them to always have their grandma in their hearts. Yeah, you sound just like Jane who told me I was going to learn to take my quilting to the next level. I will drag her into the next level with me. Ha ha ha ha.
Not sure if Dd is coming over today. Another super cold day. I am feeling lazy today. Gotta inspire myself to get some housework done and organization.
Will most likely go to the store tomorrow before church, just to do a small stock up before the storm. Sounds like we might be getting a lot of snow. I am sure CJ is all stocked up already... When I as in Christmas tree shops- I heard one woman say “she had to stock up because there was a big storm coming”. Not sure what she would stock up on in CTS- thought it was pretty funny. Have a great day. Ginny

Hello Ginny - Your quilt is beautiful. I love the fabrics and the placement of them and the border fabric really sets it off. Good luck with the machine quilting. Hope you can get stocked up for the storm and that you don't get hit too bad. Ruth - Hope you enjoyed the warmer day even with the wind. And I hope that you hear from our DGDs soon. Phyl - I'm glad you haven't had any reaction from the shot, hope that continues and that the stretching exercises help you. Sue - In case you check in, hope you are doing well. It wasn't as cold here today since the wind was gone and it was sunny. I guess it's the nice day before the storm! We're still supposed to get snow and maybe a mix over the next few days. I just hope it's not as much as they are saying. I'm almost finished the Norway quilt top, and only had to rip out three seams I have the 6 rows sewn together and now I just need to press them and then sew each row to the other. I want to have this done by tomorrow since I'm counting it for my January quilt top. Hopefully I can do at least one top a month from all the many I want to make. I already know what I'm going to work on for February, and that one is pretty easy too. I also hope I can go through my quilt panels and pick out some that I want to work on. I've been looking at lots of pictures on the Internet of panel quilts and saw a few designs I'd like to try. Take care everyone

Good to see you here CJ- how much are they predicting for you?? I just watched the forecast and projected radar, and it looks like this storm will come up from the south- so you will get snow first. Good thing you had nicer weather today- hope it was bright and sunny. Have you noticed the super large and bright full moon? Its impressive...so clear and pretty. Will this be your first attempt at panel quilting? They are fun and easy....and can be very striking with the right panel. They are a nice way to decorate for different seasons, or holidays. Sounds like you had a great day with the Norway quilt- if you only had to rip out 3 seams. You should have no trouble finishing it tomorrow, as it you are almost finished with it already. What is the quilt you have planned to work on for February?
Thanks for the complement on the falling charms quilt. I had all the rows pinned or sewn, and can see that I should have checked before final sewing some of the color placement. I do see two areas that have too much of one color close by- but I am not ripping it out. Hope to start putting the quilt sandwich tomorrow. Planning on going to the store early before church- I have a super short list of items to get in the house. From the way this storm is predicted, schools should be closed Monday. Ds will still have to go to work....and I am already praying for his protection as we might possibly get 6-8 inches of snow.
So the quilt I made for my niece??? Mailed it on 1/20 and it is still not delivered....all the PO web site says is that it will be late. Really??? Ha ha ha. As long as it gets there before the baby is born (late February) I will be ok- not happy but ok. G

CJ, I'm glad you're having a warmer day and I, too, hope that you don't get much snow and that it' not too cold. I hope you have everything you need in case it does snow so that you won't have to go out in it.
Ginny, I hope you can get the things you need before the storm hits your area. I also hope the quilt gets to your neice safely and soon. I think I see the spots where you think you should have made a different choice but even though the colors might be a little close the overall look is VERY beautiful and I don't think anyone would even notice if you don't point it out. I sure woulld never have noticed if you hadn't mentioned it.
Well I did some sewing today and found yet again that I need a lot more practice esp with my foot pressure on the pedal.Dh wanted to support Mike Lindell because he heard that because of Mike's political and Christian views that stores are cancelling selling his products. Anyway, no comment on that, but dh had one of his frugal plans and bought a body pillow which cost the same as a regular pillow and decided to have me cut it in half and make two pillows out of it.Then he brought me a pair of his old shorts that he wanted me to sew the bottoms of the legs close so that he could repurpose the shorts into a tote bag. I kept worrying that my bobbin would run out because I haven't had to rewind the bobbin since the first time when I bought the machine and I don't remember how. Now that I managed to finish both those things I'll read up on how to refill that bobbin so that I'm ready when it does run out.

Good morning! Ruth, you got your machine out!!!! First of all, like a car, these sewing machines like to run- so you actually helped it out by letting it run. Do not know what kind of foot pedal you have ( assuming like most machines that its a foot pedal) but sometimes just by moving how your foot hits the pedal (if its a pedal with a single button) or by taking your shoes off, helps gain some control over how gentle or hard the machine operates. (in the quilting classes I have taken there are many barefoot sewers!). Glad you got it out, perhaps you will now be inspired to sew a bit more. As it only took CJ 15 minutes to make that pretty snowman table runner, perhaps you can make one for DDIL- think you were looking for a gift for her. I forget what machine you have.....think its a Janome. www.sewingmastery.com has lots of machine videos- they are well done too, explaining how to thread, make bobbins etc....not sure if she has any Janome videos however. About 5 years ago I stopped buying Kellogg’s cereal, because I did not support a “charity” (which is actually a political movement) that they supported. Wish others would just react that way instead of denying others the opportunity to buy products that we might like and want to try. Yup, I am sure you found where there are 3 brown/tan charms in a line with each other (3 cascading rows). But I do not care its too much work to take apart now. I am going to order a book on this next step of free motion quilting and perhaps today start putting the quilt sandwich together while I wait for the book to arrive. Enough of my blabbering....gotta get showered, then to the store before the snowflake shoppers get there. No I am not buying toilet paper- got plenty of that in the house. Just a few silly things that I keep forgetting to pick up before the snow hits. I am sure later on the store will be a zoo. Ginny

So dumb thing to post but I will do so anyway. yesterday while Dd was here (and we were just chatting) I heard a horrible banging noise- rather like someone hitting an empty drum with a rubber mallet. I went to the machine room (hot water tank and furnace is there)- walked though all the rooms downstairs and found no source for the noise. It sounded bad.....came back upstairs. A few minutes later, we heard it again. I went downstairs not even knowing where to look this time- as the noise was so random. Then I saw the culprit. Little Sweet Tea had gotten curious and jumped into the washing machine. As its super smooth inside (stainless drum) she had trouble getting out (thus the empty drum sound),. Of course she is fine....and I have to remember to keep the lid down on the washer. What a funny kitten- I have never in all the years I have lived here had a cat go into the empty washer.

Hello Everyone Ruth - Sounds like you are busy with projects. Hope you can get some bobbins filled for some more sewing projects. Ginny - Hope you were able to get your shopping done and you don't get too much snow. That is a funny story about your kitten. I watch a few webcams with cats on them and it's true they will get into just about anything and go anywhere in a house! I'm glad you found her and she was O.K. Hope you can find a good book for the machine quilting. I know there are lots of YouTube videos on free motion quilting. Hope your niece gets her quilt, all the late mail has been really bad this season. So far the snow here has been pretty light and the roads are still just wet. Sounds like we'll get a mix/lull overnight and then back to some snow tomorrow. Fortunately I don't have anywhere to go. I've been waiting for an oil delivery so I hope the bad weather doesn't delay that. I finished the Norway quilt this morning (picture below) and I have to admit I just feel kind of "blah" about it. I do love the fabrics and the design but it's a strange size 60x60 and just wasn't as much fun as I thought it would be to make it. That might have more to do with my attitude right now instead of the quilt. I also made a few more of those small Lemoyne stars. I had an idea that I might make a few each month this year, but dealing with those small pieces of fabric was irritating, so I probably won't. I did start a small monthly project with small blocks from the Temecula Quilt Company. One Monday a month they post a pattern for a small 4 inch block. You are supposed to make four blocks, but I just made two using some fat quarters I had. And I cleared off my sewing table and got things ready for February. I made a list of the projects I want to work on for the month, so that should keep me a bit organized. The two main projects I want to make are a small heart wall hanging using half square triangles based on this design on the mug in the picture below. I had a bunch of pink/white half square triangles left from a project last year so all I have to do is sew them in this design. The other project is quilt called Stepping Stones and I'm using a layer cake I have of Stonehenge Gradations fabrics. My fabrics are in blues, not the teals in the picture I'm posting. I'm kind of sick of Teal right now Hope you all have a great day!
