WELCOME TO REGULAR & NEW POSTERS! This thread is full of encouragement & suggestions. New people, welcome! We encourage you to jump in. One day, one hour, one minute at a time is easier to handle than a week, etc. Lurkers, join in
Our goal is 21 days Binge Free (studies show 21 days to break old habits & start new ones!). Whether we make 21 or one, the point is to learn as we go, replace binges with other things to help us through stressful times. Some days are harder than others & we may slip; that's OK. The Binge Monster is in the shadows waiting to pounce. Hopefully this thread provides inspiration, courage, & support to become a Binge Survivor!
You may see different folks on different "Cycles." A Cycle is a 21 day block of consecutive binge-free days. Stay with us for as many cycles as you'd like.
Everyone's definition of a BINGE is different. The Oxford Dictionary defines a binge as a spree of eating and drinking. To many of us, BINGE is defined as "eating without dignity." The dictionary defines "dignity" as a calm and serious manner or style, showing suitable formality or indicating that one deserves respect. Only you can define what a binge is for you. Going over points, as long as it was done with dignity and journaled (thereforeacknowledged and "owned") isn't binging--it is up to you to decide.
SPECIAL THANKS TO LESLIE5609 for starting this challenge on the Out of Control Board, in August '02, and thanks to all who keep it going.

C114D2, 15 purple points, 1209 calories, no exercise - pj day, lotsa snow. Busy, busy, busy - how did I ever work outside the home? If you think you're going to put your feet up and read lotsa books when you retire, think again <g>.

1996 calories 607 exercise calories 101g protein 40g fiber
It’s going to be an arctic week here and I’m dreading it. It’s 6º right now but only 3 mph wind so Roscoe and I will head out. We’ll see how far we get, hopefully we can finish our 6 miles. It looks like most of you are in the same boat.
I had some sweet treats yesterday...4 golden Oreos and 3 white chocolate truffles. I think my weekend calorie goal at the beginning of the month was 2300 calories and I was well below that both days. I’m thrilled that I’m working in controlled treats and not going overboard. Will return to sugar-free this week.
Kathy, I find my time outside helps me get through the dark days of winter a little bit more easily. Glad you got out yesterday, but also glad you got right back inside.
Meg, stay warm!
Nancy, I’ve heard that many times before about retirement. The snow is pretty, but such a pain. Hope you can stay put until it’s cleared away.

Good morning.
Jan: I'm thinking of trying a plan similar to yours: sugar-free for 6 days, then one day (Sunday?) with a planned sweet treat. In the past, I've gone crazy on the "free" day, so that is a danger. Any tips?
Peace to all.

Another Lindt truffle late last night among other things totalling 8 pts and 230 calories, revising yesterday's stats to 23 points and 1439 calories. I have to cut this out especially the next 3-1/2 days since Thursday night is dinner with DS, DDIL and DGK. It's our final get together before he leaves for NC and also in honor of DGK's 18th birthday which is on the 15th.
Jan - Actually I'm off to the mall this morning. My car's still covered with snow but my friend is driving.
Meg - My only tip is to plan in advance exactly what your treat will be including portion size and then be determined to go no further. I've been thinking lately of Dr. Beck's resistance muscle. If you stick to your plan, you will be exercising yours and will be entitled to a similar planned treat the next week. I'll be anxious to hear how you make out.

Good Morning! Yesterday was a strange day...I felt fine in the morning, mid-afternoon felt really off (throat ache, nausea) took a few Advil and rested on couch - couple hours later, felt fine - just weird. At least, I felt better in time for the Super Bowl. I pre-planned all my Super Bowl food - worked out well!!
Nancy, A lot of celebrating on Thursday! Enjoy every minute!!
Jan, I think the calorie counting is allowing us to work in the treats and still stay in the maintenance range. Last night, I was able to fit in some of DH's appetizers. Things that are high points and I would have passed on (which was causing the binge behavior). Boy, we are learning a lot!! Yup, cold here also....plus my treadmill died over the weekend. Ordered new parts but on backorder - so glad I have the bike, plus I'll do some Utube workouts....Work wise - my advice, do what will make you Happy!!
Kathy, So happy to read D9! Wow, guess we can't complain about the cold....burrr Pre-planning or semi pre-planning has been working great for me. It seems to get easier and less time-consuming by saving meals (then just editing), coping items I have regularly, etc. Since I have been tracking since covid, I have a lot of good data to look back on. I have a pretty good idea of what my average calories are per meal/snacks - so even if I don't know exactly what's for dinner or last snack, I pre track the calorie amount (quick add on the tracker) just so I don't leave myself short - and sometimes it leaves rollover points/calories for later in the week.
Meg, Just wanted to mention, I have learned a lot by listening to Half Size Me Podcast. It suggests looking at how you eat now and making small/sustainable changes, fitting in what you like, not giving up anything you're not willing to do long-term, delayed gratification, the importance of protein, were all great lessons I've learned.
Happy Monday!!

Meg, are you counting calories or just eating intuitively? My observation has been that if I don’t track for a day on the weekend, I go bananas most of the time and can’t seem to practice much control. This past weekend I decided to allow myself more calories with controlled treats. I didn’t even use the extra calories, but knowing I could have them if I wanted helped with the all or nothing mindset. If you’re not tracking, do you eat the same basic meals most of the time? You could plan to eat those same meals and add a serving of a treat that you want, or even just part of a serving. If you can stick to the plan, you can look forward to doing it again the following week. If not, then one of two options: try again with the treat, or opt to stick with your normal eating and try in 2 weeks. Does that make any sense? It’s all mental for me, as it is for a lot of people. Just keep trying until you find something that works most of the time.
Nancy, did you have more than one Lindor truffle? 230 calories is usually for around 3 of them.
Lori, glad you’re feeling better! You are absolutely correct about points vs. calories. I think it’s one of the reasons I’ve stuck with calories and didn’t switch back to points. I feel it gives me more freedom, even though I still have to be mindful about the quality of the foods I’m eating. BTW, I ordered 2 boxes of Red Rose caramel apple pie tea from Amazon. I’m not sure I love it, it must be the Stevia. It leaves sort of a cool feeling in my mouth. If I decide I won’t drink it, I’ll pass it on to you.

C56. D10. Day 10! Day 10! :-)
Have to take an axe to the ice over the cattle water as DH is off farm. It's good to get out in the cold and even better to come back in. -20 degrees this morning.
Lori - Both DH and DS have had extreme throat pain. DS stayed home from school today. I'm feeling like any illness that is spreading feel ominous right now. Can't shake that...

Jan, wanted to mention....The tea was too sweet for me in a regular mug. I enjoy making it using 20 oz of water.
Kathy, I’m feeling much better today (I think I have a very high resistance, maybe I just had a touch), can’t remember the last time I was sick (knock on wood).......hope everyone in your home feels better....

Trying something new for a change - Jan got me thinking about treats. Tonight during TV I got the mini kit kat on my brain. It's 3 pts and 67 calories. Also wanted a slice of 647. I decided to have both. The idea is to ease up on the points and calories a bit (and I do mean a bit) but to be extremely strict about the late night eating, hopefully back to nada after 10 PM. Even with those extra treats/foods, I ended my day at 18 points and 1268 calories. The idea is to avoid feeling deprived of those goodies on occasion and maybe be more likely to stay strong late night. Does this make any sense? As you know, I track points and calories. I can't think of a good reason to skip one or the other. BTW have you tried the Built caramel brownie bites? Last night the cookies and cream tasted better to me but still no hint of cookies and cream.
Lori - Love your advice to Jan. Sorry about your treadmill - smart to use alternate options until it's back in working order.
Jan - I only had one truffle but I also had a couple slices of 647, a string cheese and 6 good n plenties which explains the 230 points.
Kathy - Yeah for D10. When's the last time you got that far? I know what you mean about any symptoms being fearful. Hopefully they'll both be feeling better sooner rather than later.
