Well, I was asked to go to a friends house last night to watch the football game. Good thing I did not go, as I fell asleep on the couch three times during the first half- then went to bed. I did stay awake during most of the second half.
Golly its cold here and we are in for a cold week, and a chance of snow almost everyday this week.
I am starting to plan a baby shower for DD#2- that time will be here before we know it. It will be in early spring, which we should be able to accomplish without having social distancing issues, and keep everyone safe. Perhaps I will do some research on that today and things we can do in a socially distanced environment. DSIL does not think that his family would attend a drive up shower, ,which is disappointing.

I didn't watch the whole gamebut not because I fell asleep. It was just because I got bored watching. :My brother says it was fixed. Well at this time in this world I wouldn't be surprised. If there was crooked things going on in more important events, in a football game it would be even more likely.
Ginny, I do hope that you can have a nice baby shower for your dd. Early spring is almost here so a shower with social distancing may have to still be the only real choice. It's surprising that some people have never really bothered taking any care at all and never were affected by the virus. Some people I know are out everyday and mostly to several different places and use only homemade masks that would not even keep you from catching a cold and they have not contacted the virus. The one woman I know that only goes out shopping once a week, with a good mask, and during the senior hours is the only one I know that actually did contact the virus. Luckily she and her husband both recovered and didn't even need hospitaliztion. My one neighbor has company all the time. Goes around and visits all the other neighbors, never uses a mask,, is older and has medical problems, shops a lot and nope, no virus.
CJ, that is definitely a lot of patterns. Yes we use them for inspiring us and some are so nice we add them to our ever expanding lists.

Oh the other thing I was going to say was thank you both for those links. I went to them and, of course, had to see other patterns by the same people. The one you posted for the video, Ginny, I saw and liked but also had to check out some other videos that show up on that right side of the screen. I found some awesome videos for potholders. I did copy the link for the one video but it's on my other computer so can't post it here but I'm sure you both know how to do this but to me it was amazing. They took the batting and sewed the pieces right onto it and quilted it at the same time. After that they put the insulated batting and the backing on and finished it. It look SO easy. I also looked at the ones where you used the 4 trangles or 4 strips and those also, you just reached in and turned and you were basically done. To me that seemed like magic. It seemed even easier than the 10 minute table runner.

Oh and I watched one in which the sewer was putting on binding using the mitered on that the woman in my crochet group was showing me. She only showed me the first side and I never did it but wondered how it turned out when turning it to sew in place. It's great. The woman that did it though did have messy stitching on the front which I would also have because I don't seem to be able to sew in a straight line

Ruth- I figure that this weekend we will be attempting to settle how and where the baby shower will be. Gotta make a phone call tomorrow and see if the lone location, an outdoor pavilion is a possibility. If not, I have two good options and can manage to keep everyones spaced enough. Sounds like you viewed a quilt as you go video. I made a quilt as you go table runner a few. Years ago. Its a fun process. And turns out pretty well. There is a pattern for a split rail fence quilt (its one of those I have the fabric for) that I cannot make sense of all the directions. Jane has made one of those- hers turned out very well. And she has promised me to help me with the process. There are many good videos on putting on a binding with a mitered corner. It takes practice getting those bindings on straight- and I would never say i was expert. BTW- Jane has made some of those quilt as you go potholders as Christmas gifts, and they turned out lovely.
Gonna crochet awhile Ginny

Well I hope that you find a great location for the shower and it turns out great. Someone having a first baby especially deserves to have a really nice baby shower.
Yes I loved watching those videos of the quilt as you go potholders. They definitely would make a wonderful gift. I used to really dislike youtube videos but now I spend a lot of time watching them...both the sewing ones for making small items that would not only make great gifts but for a person to make for themselves also and the crochet ones. I hate though when I find a good one and its not in English. Some have a translate feature but others don't. I also don't like the ones that don't have closed captioning since I can't hear them and would have to use headphones. There are also some made by people who obviously think of themselves as experts and qualified to teach others and make some glaring mistakes. They were probably taught that way and really think they're doing it correctly.
I wasn't really planning on cooking much today but the day turned out to be warmer than was forecast so I went ahead and made a pot of chicken soup, a pot of chili, and some pasta sauce. All this week is to be bitterly cold with a couple days to have a below zero temp as the high for the day. So comfort food is made and ready.

Ruth, nice to hear that you got so much cooking done!! Makes sense to just stay in the kitchen and get so many meals or pieces of them prepared in advance. Below zero for a day time high is COLD. Hope your furnace is in great shape, but we know you also have a wood burner. Are you just supposed to be really cold, or is there snow expected also? If you chose to make any of those potholders, if you are planning on using it for a lot of heat related uses (other than looking really pretty!) they suggest using insul brite batting (pretty sure Walmart and Joanns both sell it online). there is also a cute pattern for bowl wraps- and its suggested that insul brite is used, as those bowl wraps (which are super easy to make and really cute) because the batting has no metal in it and can go in the microwave. Totally agree with you on youtubes. First off, I must say, CJ did a great job describing how to post pictures- her directions were spot on. Back to YouTube....not all folks were meant to make videos, some do an awesome job. I have seen in quilting that some post videos of “the right way”to get a project done, and others post on getting the job done- not necessarily in such a way that would win awards at a quilt show, but get the job done nonetheless. There are lots of quotes about not being a perfect quilter. I know I am not!! My favorite is: "there is no such thing as a perfect quilter. The only perfect quilter is God!"
Enough from me. Got a little bit of crocheting done last nite. Schools are closed, its supposed to snow all day. Late in the day I am going to a viewing for Ds’s best friends mom- snow should be over by then. Gotta clear the snow....maybe do a quick vacuum of the living room and perhaps this afternoon work on my FMQ practice blocks. G

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - Hope you can work things out for the baby shower. Hope you don't get too much snow - I'm guessing the snow from last week is still around! Ruth - I'm glad you were able to cook up some nice meals that will be good with the cold weather you are getting. I find the whole issue of who gets the virus and who doesn't kind of fascinating. I also know lots of people who are out and about around other people alot and they haven't gotten ill. It makes me wonder if those who get it either are exposed to a large amount of the virus or that there is something in their body that causes them to be able to get the virus more easily. I agree with both of you on the YouTube videos. You can get some really great ones that explain a process well and have an interesting project to share and then others where they don't demonstrate well and the video quality is not great. The weather has been pretty nice here the last few days but we're supposed to get some more snow Wednesday night through Friday, hopefully it won't be too bad. I went out this morning and bought my monthly (or every 3rd week) groceries, so I'm set for awhile. The only think I might need in 2 weeks is some more yogurt since they didn't have the 4-pack of Dannon Light and Fit Greek Vanilla that I like to buy. I haven't done anything else in my sewing room since the weekend, maybe now that I have the grocery shopping done (and I'm relieved of the stress of getting ready for it and doing it) that I'll be able to get in there and do some work. Have a good day!

Well even though it was only 13 degrees we went out to do a little shopping in an actual store. I was surprised to see that every person in the store had on a mask. There were quite a few there. There was no wind so it made it seem warmer than the actual temp.
Now, I am probably the worst person in the world to have as a friend. I have a friend in Alaska who is about 95 years old. She lives alone in an inlaw apartment in her daughter's home. None of the family want to visit because they don't want her to contact this virus and on top of that the daughter and her husband and son had the virus over Christmas. Her daughter does all the cooking and does whatever my friend needs done so she had to come over despite having the virus but was very careful with mask and handwashing, etc. Anyway because the daughter did limit time spent with her and the rest of her very large extended family don't come over my dear friend was extremely lonely. She called me a couple times but I didn't hear the phone. I finally called today after getting home from shopping. She said that I wouldn't be able to even imagine how happy she was to get my call. So I think I need to be a better friend. We used to email back and forth but she has amd and can't see well enough anymore. Her daughter now reads her my emails and writes back to me which is nice but this daughter has a lot on her hands too.

Hey CJ! Glad to hear that you had a successful trip to the food store. Was all the Dannon light and Fir Greek out or just the flavor you like? Sometimes you just have to “rip off the bandaid” and get that trip to the store over with. I have to play mind games to get myself to go- convincing myself that I have to leave the house by 8 am so I am back by 9:30 am and can have my second cup of tea. Once I get out the front door I am ok.. but its a struggle. Last nite I spoke with my friend in Gaithersburg- she thought that the next storm system was to bring more snow to her area than I would be getting up here. Do you have any idea what you are going to be working on next in your sewing room?
I ended up vacuuming this am, and painted 3 windows (the surrounding trim) so that they would match. (Never changed their color after I painted the rooms). Sounds like a dumb thing- but they took 2 coats of paint and it just looks so much better to me. Most would not notice the change. Think I will finish off that quart of paint in DD #2 bedroom (now my sewing room)- again it will just freshen up the look and not leave me with another paint can to store. As long as I get that done next week I will be happy. Do not have to babysit next week as Dd will be home (her school is closed). I think babysitting will resume the following week.
Think I am going to practice my FMQ in a little bit. Hope everyone has a good evening. G

Ruth, you are a wonderful friend even for caring....I have an idea. Perhaps your friend can voice email- which means she would not have to see the keyboard to email you and she could just speak. As long as the computer transcribes it closely enough it should work. Of course phone calls would be problematic- I think you might have difficulty with that. glad to hear that you had good mask compliance at the store today. Not sure how you could be a much better friend- other than an occasional call or email or a card... all of which I am sure mean a lot to her.
I did get to that viewing/wake for a short while. It quickly became crowded and while mask wearing was good by all it was too crowded and not ventilated. I was glad to be one of the first ones there, so express my condolences to the family and get out. G

Ginny, I mentioned to her several times that she should have her daughter or one of the grandchildren show her how to use the voice email. I don't know why they haven't done that. Maybe she forgot to ask. Her daughter seems to know a bit about computers so I would think that she could do that easily enough.
a week off babysitting makes for a nice little vacation then you will be able to see them all again.Do you do crafts with dgd#2 or does the baby take up too much of your time when you're there?
You've sure done a lot of painting lately. I know your house looks so nice and fresh. Nothing like some painting to do that.

The thought that sprung to my mind about the use of voice emailing was what kind of technology she is using to stay in touch. Voice emailing/texting on the IPad is easy....same with my phone. Not so sure about my desktop computer. Lovely that we have this technology to help us stay in touch. Gee, without our computers/tablets this thread would not even exist. Yes, when I can I like to do crafts with any of the little ones....guess I have to put my thinking cap on and figure out a good project for the 2 year old (almost 3!). They have been sick at Dd#1’s house- And I was in the same town as Walmart yesterday and had to return an item I had ordered online.....gosh we have had a lot of snow here, with another 4 inches falling yesterday. I felt lucky to find water pistols at Walmart and because they were out of liquid food coloring, bought a few packets of Kool Aid . Dropped all that off at DD’s on the way home- leaving it at the door. The kids had fun shooting colored water in the snow (dilute kool aid). So now the front yard looks like a crime scene, with red kool aid all over the snow. Its hard to keep the little ones busy when they are cooped up !!
I remembered that I had some extra blocks from the falling charm quilt....thought it would be best to make them into small units and use that to practice on. So I did another practice run of the loops I am hoping to use to FMQ. looking at it up close, its not so good. Looking at it far away, its pretty good. Going to make a few more practice panels like this and keep practicing. I have to work on the fluidity of my loops and the only way that will work is with practice.
