Ok, I would never say that this is good- its a start. The quilt sandwich for this sample was not basted or glued therefore the shifting of pieces and was also not ironed.
Regarding all my painting. Remember DD#2 got married 2 1/2 years ago, leaving us with a bright purple bed room. Dh and I had long discussed painting it the same soft grey that the living room/hallway is. I took care of that last spring. I had wanted to paint my bedroom for awhile and with babysitting Dh was just not interested in painting it again. We had also had some new windows installed 18 months ago...and for two of them the molding was also partially replaced. (So bare wood showed).. All I am doing is trying to give the two rooms a fresh look. I am done with my bedroom now, and in the next week will use up the rest of the trim paint and finish in DD#2’s bedroom- which is now my sewing room. I am not a great painter, but its clean and fresh looking...little by little it all gets done. At some point I will paint the downstairs ( I am in a raised ranch, so the down stairs is also living space). Again, it needs freshening up. The family room is a large room (for this house, which is average sized). I will have an interesting time coming up with an updated paint color to match the furniture there. The furniture is in great shape, and does not look dated, but I am unsure if I can figure out a color for that room that will update the look and not look stupid.
I have talked enough. G

What a fun thing to do shooting diluted kool aid into the snow. I wish I had thought of it when my kids were young or even when my older grandchildren were young. That would have been a lot of fun.
Ginny, just remember that we are our own worst critics. Your quilting looks great to me. It might not be absolutely perfect but it looks very pretty and is good work on your part. I know you'll keep on practicing.
Watching some of the crazy impeachement business. Won't say a word about that

Hello Ginny - I think your machine quilting looks good. That's a good overall design to use and you can see that you have the rhythm of it well. Good luck with moving on to the the quilt That was a great idea to use the water pistols with kool aid, I bet the kids had fun doing that and the snow probably looked really neat! Ruth - I pretty much quit watching all news and I don't miss it. Now if I could just quit reading news on Internet I'd be doing great In keeping with my goal to get a lot of quilt tops machine quilted this year, I pulled out 8 small quilt tops to machine quilt this month. They are mostly wall hanging size. This morning I cut the backing material pieces for all of them, so I just need to press all of those pieces and cut the batting pieces, then I'll be ready to start machine quilting them. I decided not to worry about binding right now since it was stressing me out, I can get to that eventually. I'm not sure I'll continue making all the blocks I planned to do each month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I'm not happy with all of them, so I might change over to another block or just stop the one I don't really like. That one is the squares in a circle block. It's a pretty block but a lot of fabric cutting to make it and I think I'd prefer to make it in different fabrics, not colors, if I was going to make a quilt top in that design. I will continue to pull out my scraps for the month color because it has been great organizing them into 2.5 inch squares, 2.5 inch strips, 5 inch squares, and then bigger pieces. I've already finished yellow for this month since I didn't have many scraps of yellow fabric. I'm keeping all the 2.5 inch squares in a separate plastic bag and then maybe I can make something with all of them at the end of the year. It's snowing here right now, but a wet snow and it's melting on the roads. Hopefully we won't get any ice from this storm and the one that is coming tomorrow night. Take care

I have really been "itching" to buy something quilt/sewing related. I sure miss just going shopping whenever I wanted to. So today I ordered some Schmetz 90/14 sewing machine needles from Amazon. I thought I had a lot of machine needles but when I checked I don't have that many so there was a pretty good deal to buy 10 packages (5 in a pack) and I ordered that. I figure the package should be small enough to fit in my mailbox so I won't have to worry about a package placed outside. If I didn't have this worry I'd be buying stuff every day

Good evening, Ruth, glad you ordered new needles- believe it or not with every major quilt project, you are supposed to change machine needles. Do not think any of us do that. There are some quilt kits- Amazon, Joanns, etc....that are sold- and you pretty much get all the fabrics needed, perhaps would have to buy batting. OF course that would not fit in your mail box, but its a thought. Think we all understand that desire to just go out shopping in a craft store and feel normal. My sister called me late this afternoon- we both seem to think that perhaps “normal” might begin to return this summer. Think masks will be here for awhile, but at least herd immunity might be here. The original recipe for water pistols in the snow called for liquid food coloring....Walmart was out of that, so I hoped that Kool Aid would do the trick. Apparently it worked just fine. THe snow looked like a crime scene...but the kids had fun.
CJ- absolutely- make your quilt sandwiches and figure out the binding another time!!! Get those quilt tops quilted first- then you can decide what fabric to use for binding. In my search for good quilting directions, I have even seen where straight line quilting is done diagonally across the quilt, instead of in the ditch or outlining a shape. So many different options!! I do not know what quilt tops you will be working on, but know you will come up with a design that is pretty and something that you are comfortable doing. So glad you are getting your color strips organized! Bet you could make a great scrappy quilt now, with your strips so well coordinated and ready for use. I am glad you decided to stop the rainbow scrap challenge block that you did not like. We are supposed to be doing this for fun, right? Glad you did not get too much snow. A relief for sure.
Thanks my friends, but I still have to practice this sewing pattern a lot. I took out a large piece of paper (maybe 18” x 24”) and drew scrolls- just like I would sew them. Its suggested that you do that to help develop muscle memory...and I can see it works. I am far from good at this, but improving, and figure that perhaps one more practice block or two and I will be ready to transfer this pattern to the quilt. I still have to make the quilt sandwich...so it will be awhile.
Yesterday I saw about 15 seconds of the impeachment hearing, and today it was more like 3 seconds. I do not care what “side” a person is politically- but really- these politicians just love to hear themselves speak (no matter what side they are on) and should be focusing on doing some good instead of bloviating. What a waste of time and taxpayer money. I actually emailed my senator telling him that also. Time to move on folks.....oh, I put on HGTV instead of the stupid news.
Have a good evening all Ginny

I watched about 15 minutes of it then I thought that one woman would never shut up so changed the channel. I agree...total waste of taxpayer money.
CJ, it sounds like you have a good plan for each of your projects. I used to have some of the needles you mentioned but I have no idea what happened to them. Having things fit into the mailbox is always a good thing but many times we can't make it to the mailbox so prefer that things are delivered right to the door. We have no problem with people stealing packages though. From what you said it sounds like that is a great posiblility in your area.
After watching tv for that short time I went on to crocheting. Of course I did my pattern viewing and collected a few more. Last night I actually went through some of the patterns I have in my files online and deleted some and organized others.
Ginny, well you sure are doing great with the painting. Speaking of purple, when we had our little vacations fishing shack in Arkansas (it actually was a cute little house but little is the main descriptor) I painted the bathroom purple and of course it was a little much so I did the take a plastic bag, dip in white paint then "smoosh" it on the wall thing. It ended up looking like marble

well it's -9 right now and is to warm up to -6 so it's a little cold but luckily , and I'm praying prayer of thanks, there is no wind.
My crafting yesterday consisted of making a set of really pretty coasters and then working on some dishcoths. I was tired of working on the other things like sewing on of pockets and actually don't have room down here to spread the shawls out to pin the pockets in place.Anyway I went to those other things and may make more or maybe make some more earwarmers. Nothing like a day like this to inspire a person to make things for those in need.

Ruth, I don’t blame you one bit for taking on a different project coaster sound nice and so did the dish cloths dish cloths are nice because they are so easy to make, and you can try out all kinds of different stitch patterns without a big commitment of time. Stay warm!
I’m gonna go out and run one quick Errand and then stop in and visit my youngest daughter for a little bit hopefully I’ll be back later.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well We had a bit of mixed precipitation over the last few days but nothing that stayed, it's all melted. We might get some ice tomorrow, but I hope they are wrong about that. Hope your weather isn't too bad and you are staying warm. I changed up what I'm doing for the monthly blocks of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I just wasn't happy with all the pieces in the blocks I had chosen. I did the 2 yellow blocks (see picture below) already so I'll keep them for another project with the ones I did in January. I decided to do a quick rail fence variation block and I've also been sewing together 1 and 1.5 inch strips of fabric for each month. I'm not sure what I'll do with them at the end but it's fun to sew them together and I'll see how they all look later this year. I'm also still cutting 9 of the 2.5 inch squares in each color every month and I'll make a Sudoku quilt at the end. I'll put a picture of my January and February blocks below. And the latest clue came out for the Scrap Dance Pachanga Mystery quilt, so I have all my pieces done so far (pictured below). I like working with the black background fabric, it's going to be interesting to see how this one looks at the end. Take care everyone!

Hi phyl - I still see the Oh My Stars pattern for free on Pat Sloan's website, it's the version that makes a 41x50 quilt, that's the one I made with the turquoise and teals fabrics. Here's a link to the webpage for you: www.ilovetomakequilts.com/oh-my-stars-free-quilt-pattern-by-pat-sloan.htmlScroll down the page until you see the words highlighted in PINK: Download the free Oh My Stars for the small version - click on those pink highlighted words and the pattern comes up. She is only charging if you want the pattern with three more sizes, but really you could just keep making the smaller version larger. Hope this helps so you and Theresa can make this quilt, it's really easy and quick. I saved a bunch of pictures of quilts that people posted on her facebook page because I liked the color combinations. I'd like to make another one of these someday. I really like that ribbon block too, but there are so many little pieces to it, I just don't think I want to make one block each month. It would be nice to do 3 or 4 and make a wall hanging or table runner. Here's the pattern for it in case you want to try one of these blocks: www.generations-quilt-patterns.com/ribbon-star-quilt-block.html

CJ that really is an interesting video with some nice quilts. Some I really liked, some didn't care for too much. It is so much fun to see the color combos people pick both in quilting and in crochet. Some colors I would never have thought would go together actually do go together for an amazing final project.
Crafting for me today has been starting a ribbed hat brim which I didn't finish because my tape measure is missing right now. I have others of course but am too lazy to go up to the cold upstairs to get one so then I started an earwarmer which is made with a picot stitch which I've never done before. It's easy and so pretty.
See you all later.

Thanks CJ for the link for Fabric Cafe! I liked Heartland and another quilt that she made from I think layer cake fabric and used a chenille sashing. So pretty. yes, they use different color/fabrics combinations. And its nice to know that each quilt is only 3 yards. And yes, I well remember the Oh My Stars quilt. How nice that its a free pattern and that you were able to find it for Phyl. Love your blocks CJ. Yellow is a favorite color of mine....so I enjoy looking at the pretty fabrics.
Ruth sounds like you kept busy today- between the ribbed hat and ear warmer. You always have a project going!!
Phyl- stay warm this weekend! Are you and Theresa both going to make the Oh My Stars quilt?
My FMQ book arrived, so now I have to get busy looking at it. Jane and I did get up to the quilt shop and I got some nice fabrics for the baby quilt. Will have to get busy tomorrow cutting....
Been up since 4 when the PO texted me that the book was arriving today. So I am just a little tired.
Stay warm Ginny
