Monday again??
Ruth - so sorry that it is such a struggle to keep pipes from freezing in your home but you have had such extreme cold temperatures. Years ago during a severe cold snap we had pipes freeze in a small area of the house. Dh insulated that area , and actually insulated the walls too. You mentioned that warmer temps are coming your way, a welcome change for you and Dh. Were you ever able to find the headband pattern that you were missing? What is your next goal to have gifts made and ready to package and ship? Thanks for liking the fabrics for the baby quilt. Honestly I can take very little credit for that- the shop owner stepped up to the plate and helped. She even suggested the “ugly” fabric (the 5th fabric in from the top) which I really do not like, but we agreed that it will work well in the mix.
Got an ice storm headed my way....not sure how it impacts CJ- hope its all rain for her. I will head out this am to pick up a few essentials- might try to get a walk in with a friend from church. Also might get to pick up some specialty food that my older cat seems to be liking. She is eating it and eating well- slowly gaining weight. I give her the special food in the am, and another food in the afternoon. Not sure what was wrong with her several weeks ago- but she is really acting like herself now.
Have a great day Ginny

We just had several days of problems with frozen pipes and uncovered a nightmare. We, in this case, is my property manager and me. The house belongs to hb and has belonged to someone in his family for forever. He was born there. It’s one of those houses that has lots of potential and is a money pit.
The temperatures have been below zero for almost a week. Two apartments have had frozen pipes. The third one never said anything. There were pipes that had burst, the wrap was plugged in but not working in one of the sections, I hate to think what the bill is going to be, but the plumber was working there for two days. New insulation, new wrap, broken pipes etc. Adding insult to injury, the bed bug lady still has them, probably a new infestation. A new bug expert came from another town. Tenant was planning to move now anyway. The expert will be back after she has moved out. He comes here every three weeks. The carpet was going to be replaced anyway. We'll leave the unit empty for a month or two or three. The lucky thing is that all the other units are still okay.
I haven’t said anything to hb about the plumbing part of the problem. He would want to go fix it, but he would be unable to help do anything and would just get upset. He hasn’t recovered any of the cognitive loss from the hypoglycemia episode last November. I need to get POA for those things I don’t have. About the only thing he can do is bring in the mail, and he said last week that he couldn’t do that, but he changed his mind.
Dead battery in my car. I had an appointment on Friday at the bank For more Medallion signatures and couldn’t go. Rescheduled that. A neighbor is going to bring over jumper cables tomorrow. Or the next day. No rush! The current temperature is +16. Tomorrow we’ll be another ten degrees outside warmer.
The records for my DGD are being sent to a surgeon oncologist in Denver for a third opinion. This is obviously not a clear cut case. I fully understand all the implications. Either of the choices could be totally right or totally wrong.
Ten more days until the second vaccine. The robins should be returning in two weeks. We still need a lot more snow.
Lots going on, but I’m okay. At least I think I am.

Sue, I'm sorry to hear about all the problems with the rentals and that one tenant especially. Have you ever considered just selling all those so that you don't have to worry about any of that anymore. We had had several friends that had rentals and they've had a lot of issues also.Seems like a lot of stress. Weather here was a lot like yours, Sue. It's warmer today but now the wind is blowing really hard. I'm so thankful that there was no wind while it was so cold. Spent the morning doing a little baking and cleaning the kitchen. I only got about a third done of all I wanted to get done. Now it's nearly 4pm and my quitting time Ginny, I'm sorry to hear that you have an ice storm coming. I'm glad you can get the essentials before that happens. Well I have to go back and look at your stack of fabric so I can see what you're calling the "ugly" one. It's funny because they have a video on youtube called "What to do with your ugly fabric" Ok I went and looked and see that it's the ones with shades of blue rectangles. I don't know that I'd pick that for what you ladies probably call a focus fabric but it will indeed look good with all those other fabrics.

Love your quitting time Ruth!!! ( I am starting to learn that way of life....guess I am retired right?). Are you crocheting this evening? glad you got some baking and cleaning in the kitchen done. Somehow when the kitchen looks pretty good, then all is forgiven. Yup you are right on the fabric- neither Jane nor I like it but we both saw the need for it. And you are right- the reason I took that fabric is that it ties in all the other fabrics.
Sue- well you are ok!!! Sounds like you are going through a lot- many speed bumps but nothing that a little time, and regretfully money cannot fix. Hope that your battery can be started easily with a jump start. is the battery still fairly young? Perfect timing in that the bed bug lady is leaving. Good riddance. Who needs that kind of trouble? I wonder how long the apartment should be vacant before it can be considered with the problem gone. Sorry its will be an expensive plumbing repair- but getting it repaired properly this time will pay off. Prayers continue for DGD and the decisions that must be made. Hope that the third opinion provides some clarity. take a deep breath- ask for the Lord’s help on this decision. He is listening.
I am helping out with study group this evening- Jane is running it, as our leader is stepping down. She has so many families with medical issues, I am surprised that she is holding up as well as she is. She asked me to assist Jane- who does a great job. Hope I can contribute if its needed- I spent some extra time on the lesson this afternoon so I am prepared.
Wrote down the quilt directions this am (So I do not have to buy the directions) and did start cutting one fabric. Will get the rest cut tomorrow. Ginny

Oh and Ginny, no, even though I spent a good amount of time last evening and the evening before and weeded out patterns on my list that I will never make I was not able to find the pattern for that headband/earwarmer. I feel really bad about that because I really like that one. I made two and will try to figure it out or just do more of the hundreds that are still on my list.
Just found out my sister has pneumonia. She went to an urgent care but they couldn't find anything so sent her in an ambulance (I don't think she realizes how much that's going to cost) to a nearby hospital where they did a repeat xray and blood work and found she had pneumonia, gave her meds and sent her home. She has diabetes and is quite obese. Apparently doesn't have covid.

Ruth, well the good news is that your sister does not have Covid. Please know that I’ll pray for her and that she gets the best medical care, and that she recovers quickly! It’s hard when a loved one doesn’t live close by and you have to rely on secondhand information. And as a nurse you know a lot and you know all the right questions to ask, but you might not get good answers on a technical level that will give you the information you need to know.

YOu're so right, Ginny. The info my sister gave me was that they decided that she had pneumonia "from either the xray or blood work, I'm not sure" and when I asked her about meds she said they have her a prednisone pack and "injected something into the line the guy left in when he drew blood" She didn't asked which it was that determined that she has pneumonia (xray or blood work) but I'm sure it was xray and how does a person let someone give them an intravenous med without asking what it is.Apparently they gave her a bunch of paper work to take home with info because I guess as she was telling me the little she knew she was looking through it and found that they had given her a dvd of her chest xray. She said she can't look at it (and probably wouldn't even know what she was looking at) because she has no dvd player. I asked her about patient portal and a few minutes later she found info on how to get into that but I didn't hear any thing more from her.
Oh and I think that I remembered what pattern it was that I used for the earwarmer. I was looking at the stitches and I think I finally figured it out.I'm going to try it now and see if it comes out the same.

Ruth, so very glad that you figured out the ear warmer pattern. its a go to pattern for you and with all the projects that you make as gifts or donations, well its important to keep!!!
When my mom went into the hospital to have her broken hip repaired (for lack of a better word) I had a discussion in the hospital with her doctor. She had been on a slow health spiral - after years of being a fighter when it came to many different aspects of her life. Her Dr knew her well and she had a great relationship with, indicated that he was not sure if she had suffered a small TIA or was depressed. Knowing that she would be looking at months of rehab from her hip surgery and would have to be in a skilled nursing facility for that he suggested that she be put on a small dose of an anti depressant. (Not sure how, but he quickly dismissed the TIA theory). I well remember being in the room when the nurse added the antidepressant to my mom’s IV. She did ask what they were putting in, and the nurse told her it was a vitamin. Ok it was a lie, and I saw the whole thing....but in this instance, my mom needed the help as she faced not being able to live at her home anymore. Guess I took a long time to say that not everyone asks what is being added to their IV and not all information is given in a way the patient can understand. As a nurse, that must annoy the tar out of you.

Yes just like my cousin saying she didn't know there were more than one type of lymphoma after being treated for it at a very respected cancer hospital
I examined the stitch itself and saw that it kind of looked like a crossed stitch. That clicked something in my mind and I realized ia nt was the crossed stitch worked behind the skipped stitch or stitches. I had never done it that way before and it made such a nice looking stitch that I want4ed to make it my go to pattern. so now I've written it down. I still don't know what the name of the pattern is that I got this stich from but that no longer matters since I have the actual stitch pattern if not the actual earwarmer pattern
I think we might be taking a little drive to the bank's drive up window but not sure yet. i hope they have a better teller than we had last time.
I think I have all the necessary papers to do my taxes. I might have to get that out of the way soon. Now if only I could remember which online tax company I used last year.

Hello Everyone Sue - I'm sorry you are having so many problems with those houses, I hope things will get better with that soon. I hope your DGD will hear something from the doctors soon. Ruth - I'm sorry to hear your DS has pneumonia, I hope she'll be better soon. Hope your trip to the bank went well, I had issues the last time I went so I know how that is. Hope you can figure out what tax company you used. Ginny - Hope your study group went well and that the weather isn't too bad there. We did miss the ice in this last storm that came through, it was all rain here. Phyl - Hope you are getting to do some crafting It's a bit cloudy here today, but not as cold. I think we get some more winter weather Wednesday night into Thursday. Way back in 2004 I went to Quilt Festival and stayed there for 2 nights and 3 days. It was a lot of fun taking classes, buying things, and going through the quilt gallery. Ricky Tims was there offering classes on his Convergence quilt, which was new at the time. I didn't take his class but I did go to his lecture in the evening where he talked about his life and played the piano. It was a wonderful lecture and entertainment. You probably know him from the Quilt Show with Alex Anderson, but if not here's a link to a bio of him: www.rickytims.com/about-ricky/rickys-bioAnyway, several years ago I just got the urge to make one of the Convergence quilts. I saved a bunch of pictures off the internet and studied them and finally bought his book with the quilt patterns. I've read through the instructions multiple times so I would understand it and not make a cutting mistake. I'm finally finding the time to try out the quilt. This morning I finished over half of the quilt top, which will probably be about 30 inches by 30 inches, and hope to finish it all tonight or tomorrow. This is just a test quilt and if I like it I would make another one. This quilt is all about the right fabrics, so I'd have to be careful to pick out the ones that would work if I make another quilt. I'm anxious to see how my test one turns out. Here's a link to google images of Convergence quilts (if the link doesn't work you can just google it yourself): www.google.com/search?q=convergence+quilts&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjbwrDNru_uAhUzElkFHSqXBOkQ_AUoAXoECBMQAw&biw=1600&bih=789I'm not usually drawn to modern type quilts, but I just found this one kind of fascinating and I love some of the fabric color combinations I've seen. Take care everyone!

Ruth, I hope you are able to figure out who you did use to do your taxes last year! I wonder if you have a place where you keep your passwords....and if that would be a key. Perhaps the tax preparer will send you an email to use them again? Just a thought . And yes, as long as you have the pattern written down that is all that matters! I hope if you went to the bank that it was a pleasant experience. I well remember many years ago going to a bank we used at the time and swearing I would never return as I was treated so rudely.
CJ- I learn a lot from you...never have seen a convergence quilt and they sure are neat. I can see why you are tempted to try to make one. What color scheme are you planning on using? Attending that quilt festival sounds like it was a fun time- so glad you were able to attend back then!!!
Got the squares cut for the baby quilt and am starting to work on layout. Hope to start sewing tomorrow. And I figure between Thursday and Friday I will see if I have all I need for my taxes. The IRS still owes me my refund from last year. G

I think that I must have some info around here somewhere that will tell me which tax preparer I used last year. I know that the first few years that I did it online I used one then last year switched to another. Since I don't have a printer I don't have any printed out copies that I can look for. Ginny that is awful that you didn't get your tax refund last year. I know you were planning on talking to your senator or congressman but guess nothing still happened. I hope there's something you can do. Congrats on getting those blocks cut out
CJ, they are very interesting quilts. I've never seen any like that before. I hope you like the one you made today and will have the fabrics you need to do the one you have planned next.
We didn't go to the bank today after all and it would have been a good day to do so. It was pretty warm and no wind. Maybe tomorrow. INstead I made cookie dough and put that in the fridge to bake another day and I made a loaf of rye bread for the first time. It turned out great. I need to get some caraway seeds though to put in it or maybe next one I'll put in some dill.

Good Evening Ginny - I'm glad you were able to get started on the baby quilt. That's terrible that you haven't received your refund from last year, have you checked with the IRS to see what the problem is? I know they were behind because of the virus, but they should be caught up by now! Ruth - Sorry you didn't make it to the bank, but I'm glad your rye bread turned out great. Hope you enjoy eating that and the cookies later. I finished the Convergence quilt top, so I'm sharing a picture of it. There is a lot of cutting and sewing in this quilt, but I do like the idea of it and wouldn't mind making another one maybe in just 2 colors. Unfortunately I don't have enough fabric to add a border to this one, which changes the look of them depending on what type of border you use. I picked the print fabric first - it has grapes on it and then matched the purple, pink and green fabric to that print. It really is the fabric that can make this quilt look different. These fabrics are probably not the best choice, but I like the contrast of colors.

CJ, I think you did a fantastic job picking out colors and I'm in awe that you had all those colors that would go so well with the print fabrics. As to a border well I don't really know.
BTW, I don't think I mentioned it but on the weekend Joann's was having a president's day sale so I went to look and put some things in my cart but didn't order. Next thing I knew they sent me an email saying that I left something in my cart and if I wanted to put the order through they would give me an additional 15% off. Honey had sent me a coupon for free shipping but you can only use one and the 15% came out to be way more than the shipping. I told Mr Enabler about it and he said I should have orderd then so I did.In that order was some insul bright so I can make some of those potholders I mentioned last week.In fact I think you, Ginny, pointed out about the cotton batting and in one of the video's I watched the importance of using all cotton was mentioned too. I always tell people in crochet groups to use cotton or some natural fabric for potholders and trivits but didn't think of it when thinking of quilting so I'll have to check my fabric and see if I can figure out if it's cotton or not. But I do have cotton batting and now I'll have the insul bright too.So I may be joining you ladies but in only a small way in doing a little quilting.
