CJ, as Ginny said, I don't see mistakes at all. All I see is yet another beautiful quilt. Maybe if I looked closely but I think the only people that do that are the judges of quilts in some kind of competition. Maybe Ginny, Phyl, and Sue can see some minor mistakes but I sure can't. All I see is the4 beauty and talent.
Yes some with crochet. Every day there are some that show a picture of their "mistake" and asked if they should rip it out. Most of the time they have it circled because if not no one would notice. Even so I have to look closely to even see their mistake. I doubt that my grandaughter would notice that her shawl has one end larger so I still have to decide what to do about it. I can't even imagine how that happened. But it's another of those lessons on stopping to check how everything is going now and then and not wait till something is done.
Phyl, I'd be first in line for a bolt of fabric. The batting I mentioned the other day is a whole bolt. I really have no use for a whole bolt of fabric or batting but that's just how I am. I think I'm a marginal hoarder although when things get to be too large a collection I do go through and donate things. I think now I'm in a mode of clearing things out...except for my yarn and crochet tools.
Ginny I just tried to send you an email but it went off into cyberspace I think. I'll try again later

Ruth, glad you decided to let the pocket shawl go, and I feel pretty confident that DGD will not notice the slight difference in size.
Got most of the blocks pinned together for the baby quilt G

Ginny, I'm glad to hear all the blocks are pinned together. Before you know it the whole quilt will be done and in plenty of time. You're so smart for not waiting till the last minute
CJ, I'm with you on that. I think I could be entirely happy just sitting and looking at crochet patterns and watching others crochet on youtube. I remember how I disliked youtube. Well I'd still rather have a written pattern to crochet by that to have to start and stop a video but those videos sure come in handy when you don't really get what the pattern is saying. That is unless the video is like the one I mentioned yesterday. Many people don't realize that just because someone posts a video it doesn't mean they are an expert or even know what they're doing. I try to stick with the ones made by people that I've found make reliable videos, But, yes I could sit and collect patterns all day.

Ginny, I like that "friends at the IRS". I'm glad you're finally going to get your refund! A lot of posting goes on in the crochet groups about temperature blankets. I've never had an urge to make one of those.. Yes they're great to use up yarn...if you happen to have enough of each of the colors you plan on making various temperatures, but I'd rather use my small amounts of yarns to make hats or earwarmers. It would drive me crazy having a project go on all year.Thank you for the suggestion though. Some people really have unique ideas for them

I sure blab a lot but here I am again. Yesterday I started that new pocket shawl in Caron simply soft. I don't care for that yarn but I thought the color might be one that dgd would like. It's a variegated. I realized the stitch I was using didn't really look good in that yarn so today I started over with a different yarn and in a different color and it looks nice. However I did find that the blocking brought the smaller end of the other shawl very close to the size of the other end so I'm just going to go ahead and sew on the pockets and send that one to my dgd. Even if it shrinks back again to the smaller size I don't think anyone will notice. I have two more shawls to make so the one that I started this morning will go to an older dgd...one of my dd's children or to dgs' girlfriend

Good morning!! Ruth, well they are not really my friends...the folks at the IRS. I called for various reasons, one that I made an appointment on Wednesday to drop off my 2020 taxes (of course then bringing up the concept of my 2019 refund) and that its almost a year since I submitted my 2019 taxes. Gee, can you imagine the legal headaches we would be put through if our taxes were submitted almost a year late? Anyway, the woman I spoke to was VERY gracious and despite that I would have loved to have someone to scream at, she did not deserve that wrath, and we had a pleasant conversation for what it was. I think she actually went a bit beyond an initial review-finding that my taxes were indeed processed and that i was waiting for the check to be issued. She had NO idea how long that process would take, so I will assume because its a manual process, it could take months. Glad you are proceeding with the pocket shawl and giving it to DGD. As you said, most likely, no one will notice. Another idea for yarn scraps...my mom made 3 granny square Afghans (one for herself, one for me and one for my Ds) in which no squares were repeated. Think she limited it to the same color combinations - she used SS- but the sequence of each color was off. They were queen/king sized afghans- huge pieces but obviously used up a lot of yarn. Each granny square is small and easy to put together- but of course, final assembly is a lot of work. Got a feeling you will stick with hats, fingerless gloves, and earwarmers to use yarn up, but its an idea.
What color is the latest pocket shawl in? Good thing that you figured out you did not like the combination of the yarn/pattern together. Better now than later on when you would have a lot to rip out.
Got almost 2/3 of the 4 patch blocks pinned together. Already starting to think about how I will quilt this one. It would be so easy (with its block format) to use the cross hatch quilt pattern that CJ has used to beautifully. MSQ has some really cute animal designs from their long armer....of course then I would have to send it out, but I have time to do that.

GOOD MORNING , So far no side affects from the virus vaccine. it has been 24 hours.will see what later in the day or tomorrow will bring.
there is a lot of discussion out there about taking TYLENOL OR NOT.
Nurse told me to take Tylenol.I took it more for low back pain then then the virus.some people say side effects means it's working. my nurse said some people get a reaction some don't.so I will trust my medical teams.
the reason I did not go to the free fabric give away is:a doctor on tv said to stay home for a few days. we still could give the virus to some one if we have it. I don't want to take a chance of picking it up.he also said get in the grocery store, get what you want and get out fast.
this could have to do with the new strains out there.I did not hear the talk from the beginning.
also I do not like to get bumped and pushed in crowds.we have alot of quilters in our area. not just the quild members. they have extended the days.yes I know I could use the bolt for backing and boarders. depends on what the design is. never been a big fan of large prints.
once in awhile I can see a mistake in a quilt. even at quilts shows and they won a ribbon. never know what a judge is looking for.
we had a judge talk at our guild a few years ago. one thing she said is some judges may not like a color pattern/style and will past not award the ribbon. she said they are not suppose to do that.oh they will have a scrbie write out what the judge thinks.
I have seen some beautiful quilts passed by that shoud l hace won ribbons.
I will not point out mistakes (unless asked depending on the person) I MAKE MISTAKES ALSO,SOMETIMES SMALL AND SOMETIMES BIG.
IT STILL BOILS DOWN TO THE QUILTER AND IF SHE IS HAPPY WITH THE QUILT .QUILTS ARE OUR OWN QUILTAND UNQUIE TO US.. phyl
sorry about he caps.

CJ, even I can do that challenge Ginny, yes a granny square is great for using leftover yarn. My dh's grandmother sent us a granny square afgan she made but she must have just crocheted over her yarn ends because it started coming apart in the middle between squares. There is one afgan that was designed to use up leftovers that is very pretty. It's called the Onward and Upward afgan. I don't care for the designer but she's shared a few nice patterns as to the color of my newest pocket shawl, well I'm not really sure. I ordered the yarn from Michaels and when I got it it had no labels. I think it's called cafe latte.I could look up my order and find out but I'm too lazy. The shawl is coming along nicely. The exact shawl the night before with the Caron simply soft , after the same amount of time, ended up being about 8 inches and this one is already double that. Thanks for the advice on the other shawl with uneven ends. I'll sew on the pockets today and also on the ohter one that needs pockets.

Just passing through! It was snowing this morning, and there’s a little blue sky now.
Ginny, if your snowblower won’t start .... have you been using regular gas in it? Really important to use ethanol free gas.
Second vaccine shot coming up next week.

Sue, best of luck with the second shot....I have heard others experiences that are all over the place- from no reaction to a reaction that sounded like a light case of the flu. Hope you enjoyed the contrast of the snow against a blue sky. So pretty. I have been using what I was told to use in the snowblower....exactly. IMO it was dirt in the gas can which clogged the gas line. Will know more Wednesday- thanks for your wisdom!!
Ruth, that is quite something that the shawl worked up so differently based upon the yarn. Cafe latte sounds like a really pretty color...and a nice neutral color for a pocket shawl. And I bet that other pocket shawl looks great and that only you notice the difference between the two sides.
Phyl, think with Covid, safe as opposed to sorry is a good idea.I am glad to hear that you have not reacted yet to the shot.
CJ- ok ok ok....I will behave and not buy any crafting supplies those two days. Bummer. But I will make up for it buying craft supplies today. Ha ha ha.

Just read some awesome news- looks like both of these covid shots (Pfizer and Moderna) offer a measurable immunity about 14 days after the first dose- depending upon the study it seems to be in the 70’s to the low 80’s in percentage. Nice to know.
So what I did order last night was a really cute embroidery kit I saw on Etsy. Its a simple floral, looks like wildflowers and it has a bee (tiny) flying in the flowers. The kit is called beginner....its been many years since I did crewel embroidery but I always enjoyed it and did reasonably well with it. Its the second kit I bought, bought one about 3 weeks ago, and its pretty- but then while waiting for the first kit to arrive, I noticed this one with the little bee. Showed it to Dd yesterday and we both agreed that it is so very much more adorable than the first one I ordered, so I ordered it (meant for Jane as a Christmas gift). So this will save me from ordering or purchasing any craft supplies on February 30 and 31. Its a challenge, but I think I am up for it. Thanks CJ for putting the challenge out there for us. ha ha ha Ginny

Hello Everyone Ginny, Ruth, Phyl and Sue - I am very concerned that you won't be able to pass the challenge coming later this month Ginny - I'm glad to hear your are almost done pinning your blocks together. I think quilting in a cross hatch would really be easy. You might not even need to mark your quilt, and could eyeball going through the center of the blocks. That sounds like a pretty embroidery kit you ordered. It's been years since I did crewel embroidery too. I hope you enjoy working on it. And I hope everything works out with your 2019 taxes. Ruth - I'm glad you were able to start that shawl over with a different yarn and you are liking it better. I wonder how many of us are out there that enjoy looking at pictures and patterns more than making things? Phyl - I'm glad you are feeling well after the vaccine. I certainly understand not wanting to go somewhere with a lot of people around, it wouldn't be worth getting the fabric for me either right now. Sue - Hope you can get your second vaccination and have no problems. Also I hope your DGD is doing well. It's a pretty sunny day here, but cold. I went outside yesterday trying to get some of the ice off my car and sidewalk. It's just a thick block and the sun wasn't melting it. I did get some cleared, but I'm hoping the next few days will melt it. We're supposed to be in the 50s this coming week, so that should take care of it. I didn't do any crafting yesterday, I just wasn't in the mood to do much but I did read a book. This morning I was feeling more motivated and got 4 small quilts machine quilted and I have the next 2 ready to quilt once I cut the batting and pin them. The 4 I did this morning are all Christmas pieces that I made back in November/December. I'm going to add the pictures in a separate post below. Take care everyone and have a good day

Here are the quilts I finished machine quilting today. I had red thread in the machine so I finished the ones I wanted to use this thread on. This thread is from MSQC and it worked really well in my machine. I may need to order some more from them. 1 - Small Christmas tree 2. Larger Christmas Tree 3. Largest Christmas Tree (I think I actually made this in 2019). This is another one that I'm not sure I quilted enough, but since it's just a wall hanging, I don't think it matters. 4. Poinsettia Table Topper or Wall Hanging and close up of fabric that has poinsettia and lace. The bowtie blocks were leftover from my Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks last year
