Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. The light at the end of the tunnel is very bright this morning!!! Our temp is 6!!!! YES!!! ABOVE 0!!! High today expected at 18!!! Glory be!!!
Sending prayers out to Carol, and everyone else down in the southern states. I have been reading awful things about the weather there, and the power companies doing rolling black outs!!! With the record cold they have, how awful to have your heat turned off for maybe 2 hours!!! Hope she did not loose power for extended periods of time.
Gareth, how is your DH? I hope whatever it is/was is not a cause for concern!!! Very nice that he was able to get in right away. I would agree with your DH, about the oatmeal, but at least he tried it, right? I wouldn't have been able to. We had planned on giving the jeep to our DGS, when he is old enough, but the jeep would be so old by then, DGS probably wouldn't want it. And, with it being a few years down the road, I really do not want to wait that long.
Robin, I am so excited to be able to decorate my bedroom/bathroom the way I want it; this is the first time since before I got married, that I can freely do that, without DH saying he does not like it. After looking online for things, I think I will go to a couple places and browse inside the stores, one of those being Bed, Bath and Beyond. The other one is a very upscale resale shop, which turns their profits into the Hospice service in our area. We love browsing through there. I have heard of Nikki Minaj. She is just not someone I would listen to. When did that happen, about her father? About the used car shortage, I saw on the state news network yesterday that yes there is a used car shortage in WI. Mostly having to do with the Pandemic.
Marsha, I agree about the bedding, but just some decor also adds to it. I need some greenery in there, even if it is fake, my night stand lamp can be jazzed up, just things like that also. I am going to be talking to my DSIL hopefully later this week, and get his opinion on selling the car, as he is in the know as to selling things, which I am not. I wish they had room at their house to park the car, and then he could have complete control over it; I will give him a big $$$ incentive for doing all of this. Oh tacos for dinner!!!! My goodness, I have not had a good taco in almost a year!!! Can I ask where you ordered it from? We have a few Mexican places in Howard, but not sure it would pay to have them deliver, as it is just far enough away, with us being right by Hwy 29 West, and those places being over by Velp in Suamico. Maybe once this cold breaks, I will try it.
Anngie, I am so sorry you were getting snow again!!! You are getting the winter we had a couple years ago, that darn snow machine just wouldn't stop!! Yes, I am going to share with DSIL in the price of the sale, if he agrees to help me, sell the car. Then eventually he will need to do the same with the jeep, but that can wait till after I get a vehicle. I wish I could sell the jeep right now, as I know it would sell right away. I like the lamp, but am waiting to order it, as I am going to go to 2 different stores, maybe tomorrow. No, no wallpaper, and if there was wallpaper, I would not be able to take it off, as it is an apartment. I agree, about tastes, if I loose my taste for chicken and fish, I am in trouble. I remember back in the day, beef was on our menu for many days in the week. Now it is mostly chicken. I have beef once a week, at the most, and I bet I could go more than that, with out it. But I do love a perfect made steak. Glad I watched DH all those years make those, since now it is all up to me, if I want one, and am pleased to be able to make them so good. I am getting more confident that we will see changes to getting back to normal this year, with our positive cases getting very low, at least in our state.
Up early, to get the Shredding BBQ chicken started in the crock. DS and DBIL are coming around 11 to do the beds, then I am feeding them lunch. So I am excited, and worried about my first night tonight in the other bedroom. At least I will be in my own bed, and not that hard bed!!!
Have a nice day everyone.

Karen - what is the upscale retail shop you mentioned? We ordered tacos from El Maya in DePere (near Festival). DD approved of them so they must be good. It was recommended by a former coworker who is a single guy who eats out frequently so whenever I need restaurant ideas I ask him, and dd wanted tacos as the celebratory meal when she finished fall semester. When we ordered back in December we all loved the tacos, this time the only problem was they weren't hot.
DH said he will pick up dinner for our anniversary dinner this weekend, I just have to decide what I want. But not my favorite expensive restaurant so I need to find something mid range.
Not much to report here. Weight up this morning which is a break in the up down pattern - this number is higher and I'm not happy so I need an assessment of what is going wrong. I think it could be that I am back into peanut butter. I'm going to make an effort - no, not an effort - I will cut out the peanut butter.

I didn't see that I had posted yesterday---thought I had! Finished up with work on taxes yesterday so guessing that is why. I compared my totals with all the 1099's we have received and made sure everything was in order to turn in what we needed to to our tax preparer. He does our 1040 and all the other forms needed in a farmers life.
Well its -11 and should reach 0 today. Then suppose to get better each day--Hooray!! They are saying 40 degrees next Monday.
Robin and Anngie--- I think you asked about our cattle. Yes they have a 3 sided shed they can get into and yes the guys have to brave the cold to go out and feed them and bed them. Tractors now days have a cab on and heat in them so not so terrible. It helps when we did not get any snow because when there is snow they have to scoop out the feed bunks.
Karen----so nice that you DBIL is coming over to move the beds today. I bet you are excited to be done with it. I wished I lived near you so we could go shopping at BB&B. I have somethings I need to go there for but our nearest BB&B is a good hour away from here and I have been refraining from going to Sioux Falls to shop during COVID. Staying close by.
Marsha---Nice of your DH to pick up your anniversary dinner. Is it your anniversary today?
Gareth---hope your DH is okay?
Carol---hope you are doing okay. From the looks of the news it is a mess down there. Stay safe and warm!

Karen, that will be exciting to be able to get things done your way! I think the idea of a resale shop would be great, you can often get great bargains there. Is there a Home Goods near you? I know that TJ Maxx often has the same things, but Home Goods (same company) has more. Good idea to ask DSIL to help out. We had shrimp tacos from Hello Fresh last night. Such an easy recipe, and they were soft tacos. DH doesn't really like the hard taco shells, not sure what both of you were taking about.
Now here is the story with meat. We do like to have steak sometimes, however, we do it rarely, and I shop around for sales, but we don't buy regular supermarket steaks any more. Those I just don't feel are worth it, except maybe for skirt steak or flank steak, but when it comes to something like filet mignon, NY Strip, or Porterhouse, we buy prime. I maybe, at the most, make it once or twice a month, so we splurge and buy on sale also. We think you can really tell the difference.
Pinky, good to know that DH can ride in the warm cab to go out and feed the cows. I was thinking the old fashioned horseback, but I guess that doesn't happen. Good they can be in a sheltered area too.
Marsha, glad you enjoyed your tacos. What type to you like, soft shell or hard? Tacos have become a thing around here, there is a place that makes all kinds of different taco fillings, and lots of restaurants have added a taco appetizer, but not your standard ground beef taco, which I sometimes like to make.
I woke up this morning to 45 degree foggy damp weather. The snow is really melting, but then I hope it doesn't freeze. As far as Nikki Minaj's father goes, it happened Friday night, it was a hit and run. He was less than a mile from the hospital, it's the one I go to for the vaccine trial, but I think when he arrived they weren't able to revive him. Really very sad when something like that happens. Surprisingly, I was down past that on Saturday morning going out shopping, and there was no evidence of an accident.

We set a record cold high for yesterday at -2º then set a record low overnight of -19º Today finally will get above 0º for the first time in days. I'm not complaining seeing what Texas and other states are dealing with. At least we have power. I can't imagine with the temps we've been having being without power even for a brief time.
DH has a UTI and is on an antibiotic. He's still hurting but nothing like Sunday. I was surprised that he went back to work today. He said he'd take it easy. Mostly he sits at a computer anyway. I expected that he'd be home by now so he must be catching up from being off yesterday.
Karen, I don't think you understand what I'm talking about with baked oatmeal. It's a cake can be eaten for breakfast but for me it's dessert. I had another piece last night. It's so good. DH likes the apple/blueberry version I make so I was surprised he didn't like this combo.
Talking about cars DH has never wanted anything much to do with them as far as purchasing or working on one so I'm the one that usually buys them. One time years ago when I was looking for a new car a dealership I was questioned if my DH knew I was looking at cars. I was livid. I left and the only time I ever went back there was to show them the new car I'd just purchased for cash at another dealership! The look on their faces was priceless.
DH just got home. I've got to get going too. I have an appointment to get my driver's license renewed shortly.

Gareth, I guess in my skimming I didn't notice about your DH, only what others had commented. Glad he found out what it was, although sometimes they are hard to get rid of. Sorry for that cold weather you are having. I hate the attitude in car showrooms towards women. I have told them off too. And, it's been at stupid places, like a Hyundai dealership. It's not like I walked in to buy myself a Lamborghini. You showed them though!
It is so nice and sunny out here, I think it would be a decent day to go for outdoor dining in a tent even. It will get cold tomorrow, so I hope there won't be a lot of ice around from this melting snow. Yesterday DS & DDIL took Maddie out for her first time to a "restaurant", outdoor dining with heaters, and she did great. They ordered her scrambled eggs. They love going for brunch. My other DS says brunch is a waste of money, he can make it himself. I can't wait until we get to take her out somewhere.
