Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning everyone. Just getting this up and running, I am not feeling well, so I think I will go back to bed. I didn't feel this bad yesterday, just an upset stomach. Thank you everyone, about the smoothies, if I pick my painful brain, I think it will refresh my memory and say, yes, years ago we had that discussion about smoothies, but as I was not into them I did not really pay attention. So, thank you all. I did loose weight, even packing those on to my daily tracking, but not much. Take care. I will come back later, if I can get rid of this headache; I just took 2 tylenol.

Sorry you are not feeling well Karen, hope the tylenol does the trick.
Right now here the main roads are clear. The neighborhood streets look icy but are just slushy, I will drive carefully until I get out of the neighborhood. I went out earlier to put the car on and now can scrape off the thin sheet of ice covering everything. DH has to move his car though before I pull out seeing as when the plows come through they drop extra snow at the end and it is too hard to shovel away, even for the guys who finished up yesterday for us. I have to leave the office early to go for my anti-body test. Then I will ask them to unblind me so I can find out if I had the real vaccine or the placebo. I finished Deacon King Kong last night.

It looks to be a beautiful day----only 4 degrees. but the sun is out and we have a beautiful blue sky. Should get to 16 today.
Karen---sorry you don't feel well today. Reminds me I had better call DMIL and see how she is doing.
Robin---How much snow did you get? It will be interesting to find out what you did get in the study.
Hi to everyone---I need to get going too.

Karen - sorry you aren't feeling well. I hope it doesn't get much worse and you are well over it quickly.
robin - I, too, am curious about whether you got the placebo or the real thing.
Pinky - amazing how much sunshine makes even 4 degrees feel not so bad. It is 18 here now and forecast to go up just a few more degrees today.
I am still off the peanut butter. I almost caved yesterday but I held strong. I feel that makes a huge difference for me. Weight edging down bit by bit from where it jumped after weigh in last weekend but still higher than last Saturday. We will see where it is tomorrow for the official event.
I'm enjoying The Vanishing Half. Well written and interesting plotline.
Boss is off today, traveling. Grrrr. He'll make a big deal of getting covid testing when he returns but I'll avoid him if I can. Cut and Color today so I'll be leaving early anyway, and I need to stop and get an anniversary card for dh before my haircut. Still haven't decided where to get dinner from, it's looking like more Mexican food if I can't think of something else. Maybe Chinese. I'd like a nice piece of salmon but I don't think that would travel well and I don't like reheated fish.

Karen, I am sorry you aren't feeling well. I hope the headache goes away.
We are still under the boil order. The water system isn't all the way up yet. I think I'm going to take the longest shower ever whenever we are finally back up. Some people are posting they have been without water for days. I don't know if they mean they have just a trickle or they don't have any at all. People are just really impatient. It got down to 12 or something like that last night. Now it is 25 and sunny. It should get above freezing today and the roads should clear. I haven't heard of any price gouging here. We have a brewery here who canned water and was giving it away. At Sam's the pharmacy is open and the rest of the store is only selling water. I think people are helping each other.

Carol - good to hear that things are improving. I can't imagine being without power or water for an extended period of time. Given a choice, I think I'd prefer having power and boiling water! Take care.

Karen, hope you're feeling better soon!
Robin, glad you were able to get out. Hope you find out you got the real vaccine.
Pinky, always nice to see the sun!
Carol, glad things are improving for you! I can't believe some of the news coverage coming out of Texas.
Marsha, I'll have to check out The Vanishing Half since you're liking it.
Anngie, how are you doing?
I just have a few minutes left of The Invisible Girl. I listened to it while I walked and did laundry and some cleaning this morning. It was above 0º when I got up. It's 16º now. More snow predicted on Sunday....sigh. We're already above the 26.4 average snowfall for the season. So far already we've had 43.7 for the 20/21 season.
DH misread his antibiotic prescription and has only been taking it once a day. Yesterday he was so mad at himself when he realized he needed to be taking it twice a day. I thought she'd said twice a day when she prescribed it but I never thought to double check it.

Marsha, who's the author of The Vanishing Half? There's more than one book by that title. I have one in my wish list. I'm wondering if it's the one you read.

Karen, I hope you’re feeling better by the time you read this. Hopefully you can sleep some of this off - but then be able to sleep tonight.
Robin, will they tell you right away when you ask to be unblinded? You got more snow than we did over night. More snow tomorrow, though.
My goodness, Marsha, how much peanut butter were you eating!?!? I’ve actually gained a couple of pounds since surgery. I’m wondering if it’s all on me or can I blame it on the medications I’m taking. They have given me enough for a months worth.
Carol, the news coming out of TX is unbelievable! We deal with weather like that all winter long, but you certainly don’t.
Gareth, I’m doing good, thanks. Had PT this morning and I thinking that’s helping. She says I’m doing great for just two weeks out. But honestly, I just want to be done with it! Oh, your poor DH! How many missed doses were there? Should he tell the doctor so he can extend the antibiotics?
Pinky, stay warm! How is the livestock doing?
Not much planned for the weekend. I don’t mind quiet right now, though. And there’s always takeout anyway!

Anngie - I used to eat a spoon or two of peanut butter every day when I got home from work, then I could wait until later for dinner, but peanut butter is pretty high in points and I probably did not accurately track it(then there were the many months I didn't track at all....) and I know it was a big contributor to my weight gain over time. Cutting that out and the after dinner chocolate cut a ton of points out of my day. You cold probably check the medication side effects and see if it lists weight gain.

Marsha, I love peanut butter. I could eat it straight from the jar. Have you tried PB2? It's a peanut powder substitute you mix with water. It's not great, but it's okay. I put on toast with a little bit of jelly. I get it at Walmart.
Water pressure is much better, but saying still to boil water for drinking, cooking and washing hands and face. Hopefully, tomorrow should be normal.
Houston, Austin and San Antonio and south Texas don't usually get really cold in the winter and certainly not ice or snow. I think the houses and especially apartments aren't built for the cold. Also, Texas had been warned 10 years ago that it would be bad if the temps got extremely low and the power companies ignored that, you know, it hasn't happened in 60 years so we'll take our chances it won't happen in the next 60. Unfortunately, it takes something like this happening before changes are made. If they had heeded the warnings 10 years ago quite a bit of the mess this week could have been avoided.
Gareth, sorry about your DH's med mix-up. Hope he is feeling better.
Anngie, good PT is helping.

It took me a while of arguing with them, but they agreed to unblind me so I will know next week. They sent an email this afternoon, but it was after 4 pm. I told them that it was not fair for me to book an appointment someone else could use just so that I could tell them I had it, and also if all my friends are getting it they want to know that I had it, if we plan to get together. We will be a little more lenient about going out to eat if we have all had the vaccine. I will still stay away from places that are too crowded though. There are the variants, and although they say that the vaccine will keep you from getting a bad enough case to need hospitalization, we still want to be careful.
Gareth, sorry your DH mixed up that prescription, so it will probably take him a few more days to get over it, but UTI's are also so hard to treat. Sometimes the first prescription they give you doesn't work and you have to try another.
Pinky, I agree that sunshine makes a world of difference. To me it is a big difference when I walk the dog in the morning when the sun is out, as apposed to at 5 when it is going down already.
Carol, I can understand everyone's frustration. I am sure that some people also don't get heat when their water is out. Sometimes you don't realize how important something is until you don't have it. Texans are not used to the cold weather, and I am sure plenty of them don't have warm clothes to wear.
Marsha, you are gone I am sure, so I will have to wish you a Happy Anniversary on Facebook.
Anngie, glad you are doing so well with PT. Of course I forgot, but did you have a hip replacement? I know you had the back surgery in December I think. My DH has been annoyed at his Dr that he hasn't followed up, but it looks like he has a video call with him on the calendar.
I am relaxing before I start making dinner. I am making the pork loin in cranberry dijon sauce that I was going to make yesterday. I am going to scrounge for a few more potatoes, I know it is enough, but I wouldn't mind having a bit more of that. They say it is 12 ounces of raw potato, but I don't think most people realize how little 12 ounces of raw potato really is. The whole meal will definitely fill up the plate, so that is where all our overeating comes from, thinking that we should have so much more. The raw weight of the pork is a total of 10 ounces.

Anngie----The livestock are doing fine.
