Ginny, I'm sorry that your internet has bit the dust on you. We'll be looking forward to seeing you back again after it's fixes
Went out today to take care of an errand and decided to stop in at the Kroger store. Everyone had on masks again and there weren't too many people there. We didn't really have much we needed to buy but I think that dh just wanted to get out and see the actual world. Now we're home, have things put away and I'm about to get started on my crocheting. I've been looking at the crochet groups online to see what projects are being done.

Good morning all. I wasted way too much time yesterday having a plumbing problem at my house repaired and trying to fix the stupid Internet. I did get most of the baby quilt assembled. Hope to finish that up today. And I’ll try and stop back in later on. Ruth and glad that you got out for a while. Sounds like your excursion out was safe I’ve really had very little risk to you and your husband.

Well to explain it all, I woke up this morning and grabbed my phone to see what my internet service was like. (In settings it shows actual service.....and all looks normal). So I posted, above, using my phone. Then figured I would go to look at the router, which at the moment appears normal. Not sure what is going on. Its the second day it’s acted this way. All I do know is that it’s frustrating, and I wasted a bunch of time yesterday trying to figure out what was wrong with it, and if or when the router was going to work.
Phyl, Yes, that sounds like a pretty kit, but at $199 I might pass also. No one ever said that quilting was an inexpensive hobby. I always wondered why those special rulers seem to be so pricey. When I went to the quilt shop to learn about making my BOM, it always seemed as though every month there was some $20 special ruler to make a certain block.
Ruth- cannot say that I have ever been in a Kroger store. Is that store closer to you than Walmart??? Did you find anything new on your online crochet groups? How is the baby afghan coming along?
Got all the rows sewn on the baby quilt and rows 1-3 attached to make the body of the quilt. Its pretty....a bit plain. Yes I feel pretty strongly that I will have this one long armed, As soon as the quilt is done (only a matter of an hour of sewing) I will see if if my local long armer has a pattern I like, if not I will send it to missouri. Its a pretty quilt, but just think that the long arming will really make it pop.
It was quiet here yesterday...hope everyone is doing ok. Will try to stop back in later on. Ginny

I started to post earlier but then dh interrupted me so here I am back.
Ginny, I'm sorry to hear that you have an additional problem beside internet access. Plumbing and internet can be costly fixes. I hope both are working soon and all is back to normal.
Yes $199 is a lot for a kit but I often shudder at the costs some people must pay for yarn to make blankets, etc. I'm on email lists for several crochet designers or people that just like to share crochet into and the other day a young woman sent out an email about a project she thought was great. It was a dishcloth that was crochet and embroidered and was a kit. It was "on sale". Originally $19.49 on sale for $15.99. I personally feel that making them with the cotton yarn from WAlmart..sugar n' cream or whatever... is expensive. Who would pay all that for a dishcloth. Some of the people talking about their bankets must pay several hundred dollars for the yarn.

The internet repair is on the internet service provider. I unfortunately pay plenty each month for their service. Today my router has behaved well and I have had good internet service all day. Good enough that I got the last form printed out for my taxes, and took them to the accountant. Now to wait a week or so and see if I owe or am getting a refund.
My sister is into weaving her own yarn from wool- she will use pretty expensive yarn. For me, I cannot see using super pricey yarns, I have no problem using SS or another basic yarn. guess I am not a yarn snob. Agree. A kit for $15.99 to make a crocheted and embroidered dishcloth seem absurd. During the summer I bought an afghan kit for Dd and DSIL-yarn directions and all. I did not think that I paid too much for it, I got it on sale. its all acrylic yarn...think the largest amount I spent on an afghan was the huge ripple afghan I made for Dd#1 and her Dh. Got the yarn on a Black Friday sale, when I got a great sale on that yarn. Think the total afghan cost around $40.
As I worked this am, and then had the issues getting paperwork in for my taxes, I have had no time to craft today. Guess my crafting for the day was getting a new bottle of best press and batting for the baby quilt in the mail today.
Hope everyone had a good day Ginny

Hello Everyone phyl - I hope you can buy that magazine, since the kit does seem very expensive. Ruth - Hope you are doing some crafting. Ginny - I'm sorry to hear about your plumbing and internet problems. I hope they can get resolved, since I know how irritating they are. You made really quick progress on the baby quilt, did you like the pattern? I found that I had to read through those 3 yard quilt patterns a few times before I understood some of the instructions but once I figured it out it went quickly. I was finally able to clear the ice from my sidewalk today. There was still a patch that finally melted enough that I could scrap the ice off since our weather was in the 50s. And it was windy so the sidewalk dried off too. I hope that's the last of sleet and ice we get this winter. I was working on machine quilting one of the two tops I wanted to get done today and halfway through the first one my machine jammed. I can't tell if the needle jammed into something or what happened but I can't turn the wheel at all. I took off the plates around the needle and took out the bobbin case and cleaned everything and tried again, but no luck. This isn't an expensive machine and I've probably had it for 10 years or so, so I don't know if I'll even try to get it fixed. It might cost more to do that than buy another. I had already been thinking about buying an upgraded model of this same machine, so I went ahead and ordered one and I should have it by Friday. I like it for piecing, but I wonder if machine quilting too much on it was more than it could handle. In the meantime I pulled out my more expensive machine and oiled and cleaned it and I finished machine quilting the 2 tops. This is the machine I bought for machine quilting, so I do need to use it and get used to it. It's just irritating taking it out, setting it up and then putting it away because I don't have space to keep it out all the time. I'll keep it out until I finish quilting several more tops this month and then I can put it away and hopefully get back to some piecing work. Take care everyone!

Good morning! Phyl-were you able to locate the magazine you were looking for? Good advice for CJ- obviously you have had issues like this before yourself and speak from experience. CJ- sounds like you were at the juncture that I was at a year ago with my singer. A good overhaul costs around $175 in my area, and I cannot imagine that its much different in price where you are. How much money do you want to put into a machine that might have fatal problems that are expensive or impossible to repair? With all the quilting you do, I think it was a great idea to act as you did. I am so happy for you that you ordered the new machine! www.sewingmastery.com has some great videos of some machines- and I know there are some brothers videoed, to assist with using the new machine. Bet they have added some cool new features....the shop I get my machines from also sells Brother and speaks well of them. Bet you cannot wait for Friday!! And I hope that there are some similarities to your other brothers so that you do not have to re-learn everything. I do not have space for everything to be out in one room either- my sewing room has just enough room for my machine, a small ironing station and some supplies for sewing. Anyway, glad you have a new toy coming. (Really happy for you) Also glad that you are able to see your sidewalk. Mine is still semi covered, but the snow is melting daily. Busy morning for me- going in to train the new drivers in a little while, but then will be home late morning. My heater is fixed, and my internet works now. The repair man is due here to check out the router issue- for two days it was not cooperative, and I want them to perhaps replace it. Wonder why it did not work this weekend and really do not want to go through that again. BBL Ginny

good morning, yes I have had rats nest before. one thing is when the needle jams do not try to pull the fabric out. that will bend the needle and can throw off the mechanics of the machine. sometimes for some reason the bobbin can get messed up while sewing.
If you are sewing and the needle is going up and down in one spot and the fabric is not moving stop right there stop and check under your fabric.
another trick is when sewing over a hump go slow. people like to go fast and that can break the needle.Flo who has worked for my dealer since day one told me this.
I would take the machine in and see if the person know what it could be and is it a easy fix,how much. I know quilters who are getting old machines fixed and then donating the machine to a good cause.t heir are groups taking machines to other countries and teaching the women how to sew so they can earn money for a living.
yes I got the magazine,I will not make the zen quilt do not like anything about it.
yesterday I post an order wit msqc. the pink rotary cutter and the endurance blade and the purple clear storage bag..I could have bought the first two items here. phyl

Hello Everyone Phyl - Thanks for all your tips/information for my sewing machine jam. I'm glad you found the magazine, but sorry you didn't like the quilt. Ginny - Hope the training goes well and that the repairman can check your router and see what is wrong, but I'm glad it is working again. Ruth and Sue - Hope you are doing well. It's a nice sunny day here, and going to be around 60 degrees. I went out this morning to run some errands and get a few groceries. I was surprised how many people were out on the road, it's pretty much like it was before the virus so I guess some things are getting back to normal. The grocery store I went to is right by JoAnn Fabrics and I wanted to go in there so badly, but resisted. I have been making a list of things I want to buy there so I'll go back one day when I have my coupons with me. I finished quilting the tops I was working on with the broke machine and I pulled two more out that I already had backing fabric for and just need to press the backing fabric and cut some batting, so I can work on them. Then I have 5 more pieces that I'd like to get done this month if I can. Then I'll put this larger machine away and work on piecing some quilts. Hope you are all having nice weather and getting to do some crafting. Take care!

Hey Phyl- glad you were able to locate the magazine. What does the zen quilt look like?? Would you like it in another color scheme? Sometimes I will manually help a machine over a really tough spot to take the stress off the motor. Needle size could also be an issue, I would think right? Sounds like you ordered some goodies from MSQ. Hope they arrive quickly.
CJ- training went pretty well and they are keeping me with these two trainees. The other trainer has been very competitive with trainees-he is a nice guy but a bit of a politician, something I am not. So they have given him most of the training work in recent years. the two men are an interesting pair. I enjoy training. My internet problem was the outside cables. Over time the connections had cracked and allowed water in- messing up with my internet signal. The technician replaced the cables and all seems well now. So very thankful and at no cost to me. Bet you are excited over your new machine!!! Congratulations on showing wonderful restraint- and not going into Joanns. I figure they will run some great sales soon anyway-they usually do with spring fabrics and decor. With all that you are mentioning about working on, I bet you must have many many UFO’s in your home- quilt tops waiting to be worked on and quilted. Wow- the brother that you are retiring has been a real work horse for you. Does your Joanns (which I assume is not too terribly far from you) have a Viking sewing gallery in it? (In mine, it’s where they sell and service machines). I could have bought my husky from them, but got a better deal in the middle of lockdown from my small local dealer. But its to that Viking gallery that I will take my machine to in early summer for its yearly overhaul. I am so excited that you are getting a new toy. You sure do sew enough to deserve one!!!
I did email and call my long armer about getting the baby quilt done. If I do not hear from her in a few days I will just pack it up and send it to misssouri.
Warm weather here for a February day in NY. It got into the high 40’s and snow is melting. Got a lot of snow to melt however.
Will stop back in later to see if Ruth or Sue has checked in G

I'm a little late today.I don't even know what happened to the time. It flew by. Yesterday started out to be a beautiful day but about 1pm the temperature plummeted and it started to snow. Now today is a warmer day again so our snow is mostly melted also. CJ, It's good to hear that you ordered yourself a new machine. I hope it works great for you. You do a lot of sewing and need dependable machines.Yes around here too it seems as though people are pretty much doing everything they did before and not being concerned about the virus anymore except for putting on a mask when they go into a public place Ginny, I'm glad all the maintenance issues are cleared up and that there was no cost for internet cable repair. I'm surprised our cable has not had some issue. We have internet and phone thru the cable company and have had it a very long time. They didnt bury it very far underground and it's so dry here that you would think that it would deteriorate.Well I know you like to train people so I'm glad you got a couple new employees assigned to you instead of that man. Well I intend to crochet for the rest of the evening or do crochet related things. I did move some things around in my yarn room and thought about digging into the 4 really big bins of fabric to see if I still have that quilt panel I mentioned.I didn't do it though.Maybe tomorrow. I do need to finish up all the things I want to send to family in Indiana. I can drag a project out longer than probably anyone Phyl, as we always say to CJ, if you don't like a certain quilt you shouldn't do it. Our crafting is supposed to be enjoyable. I hope you can find one you actually like
